Just throwing this out there but... Why does there have to be a split between freelancers and LS'd people when it comes to an OOC chat channel so RP meet-ups can occur? Maybe it would be a good idea to have a General RPC Linkshell for everyone (Freelancers and those in an "official" LS) that would serve as OOC chat for meet-ups and such?

With the addition of tactical combat finally (FINALLY!!!) and city-states that won't declare war on you that you could actually try to get along with I am thinking this Civ might be quite good and not have some of the issues that have always turned me off of the past games. The release date though has postponed a purchase. No point to buy it, play it day one, then shelve it for a long time for me. They would have done well to have released it earlier.

I find myself in a polar opposite situation. I thought I would be freelancing solo until I found a linkshell. Now there are at least three people coming to play with me that I am likely forming a proper Linkshell. Funny how things turn out sometimes... :cat:

Has Square Enix released ANY official information on the Company system? I'm feeling a bit frustrated as its so close to release and I can't find any information on the system. From what I understand the Company system is a Linkshell on steroids, but I haven't found concrete information on what the benefits actually are. :\

Holy smokes... I don't think I've seen this much detail given to the cosmos stuff in an MMO. I know LotRO actually has the constellations, which is cool, but its not like this. Reminds me a big of the Elder Scrolls series actually, which is very cool.

Option 2 seems much closer to your sig.

Oh look, Elezen that are actually properly proportioned... Too bad they aren't in the game.

Here's hoping that's at least several gigs of voice-acting for the quests. I was a bit disappointed in beta that only the intro is voice-acted. I've been hoping it's just something they withheld from beta because of client size... I guess we'll know soon...

I agree. There hasn't been an MMO to even touch multi-person ships or PVP with them since SWG (which was the highlight of my time with that game). If multi-person ships are true, and if they are craftable to boot, this might just be the last MMO I'll ever need. Hopefully there would be Ship vs Monster too... Really really really hoping this is true... it would totally flesh out the character I am evolving Asytra into...:cactuar: No, it isn't! :moogle:

The cake/boat/canon crafting mini-game as well as hairstyles and what I can only describe as ship vs ship combat. I'm REALLY REALLY curious to know what they are saying during that ship battle. It very clearly looks like in-game graphics. Since they are showing off new gameplay systems I really hope this means we'll get ownable/pilotable ships. I am completely happy if its a group/company gameplay thing.

US Federal Appeals: "No 1st Sale Doctrine for Software"
Asytra replied to Freyar's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I disagree. The actual disc media does degrade. If it's stored on a hard-disk, well... they degrade too. But we're talking about the first sale here, right? So yes, discs DO degrade. -
US Federal Appeals: "No 1st Sale Doctrine for Software"
Asytra replied to Freyar's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
This ruling is actually worse for software companies than they realize. People who buy used games also buy DLC. These people will just turn to piracy instead, likely pirating DLC as well. -
I use my 360 Controller almost exclusively. I use FFXIV's mapping program to map the bare minimums, i.e. movement, camera, and menu navigation and afterwards I have about 7 buttons left over that I can use xpadder to map to keys 1-6 as well as Tab for better targeting. It's unfortunate that Microsoft or the community hasn't made any drivers to make the Chatpad for the controller work on PCs, as it would open up a lot more options for functionality. Having six attacks is plenty, for now, though. In fact I can't equip any more abilities because of action points anyways. This is also meant for the big six abilities. For other abilities you can just press down on the Dpad then you have another 1-6 that you can use. I still chat with the keyboard, of course. It's not a big deal to set down the controller to type out something. Another nice plus is that the headset for the controller functions as a complete headset device and you can make it so on whatever VOIP program you use, you hear people through the headset speaker instead of your computer speakers. I have noticed much less physical strain when playing with the much more ergonomic controller than Mouse/Keyboard. There are no frustrations with mouse lag either, obviously. I hear the PS3 controller's keyboard addon works with PCs, however the DualShock/Sixaxis/etc setup has never really been that ergonomical, especially if you are using dual-stick which you would with movement and camera in this game. Still its a good option if you have to have a functional keyboard on the controller or already have a PS3.

It's pretty lame actually you can only get the gloves from the PS3 VERSION... I would have bought FF13 if the 360 version came with the gloves... What was Square thinking?

List of Retainer Names (roleplay-friendly examples)
Asytra replied to Faust's topic in FFXIV Discussion
It's also impossible to type in the correct punctuation. Hopefully the merchant searching comes out sooner rather than later so I can have a nice name for my retainer other than what I'm selling. -
We've certainly nothing to lose by it. Perhaps we should form a petition. Petitions usually seem a bit torch and pitchforky... perhaps a community representative and representative of this forum could contact them on our behest?

I'm crossing my tail and praying to Azeyma that they add not just musketeer but a fencing class to the game as that is the direction I want to take Asytra into. :moogle:

Limsa!!! I DESPISED it at first as I was so lost trying to get anywhere, but its a city that grows on you! Besides it fits my character SO well. I also love the ocean and sailing ships in real life, so it fits right in. Plus... Tons of places to feesh! I also really really love Ul'dah. I might be spending time in both! I really love Gridania as a city, but I hate hate hate the hunting lands around it. It feels so cramped and crowded. It will be fun to see what events people do in the amphitheater!

Well maybe the pirate voice could work for talltale type sea stories as told by some salty seadog? I really like the old man too, very good for a sagely storyteller type.
-
I think they also have a lalafell that threatens to bury a pick between your eyes if you try and fool him or something... Yeah it's perfect! I guess I didn't talk to him hehehe
-
I just saw the Miner's Guild in Ul'dah today... OMG PURRRFECT spot for a seedy pub!!!! It IS a seedy pub! Also there is not many people there, no one crafts there as its a gathering profession guild. Oh and they have a stage with a dancing girl.... :approve:

*swoon* I like the normal and pirate! I think normal is probably more suitable for a narrator but I'm kind of partial to pirate... I would definitely listen to you!!!

GO GO GADGET G15!!! -
I turn off my names! Not immersive with them on! I'm sure I've passed a ton of you as I've ran from Limsa to Gardinia today and didn't even realize it. I would turn off damage text if I could too. :\

Now that we're in Open Beta, what do you think?
Asytra replied to Samriel's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Yes the small chat area is a bit bothersome and I don't think there is any way to /emote an action. I'm used to /emoting a paragraph in prose form with not just dialogue but facial and b ody movements. Kind of impossible here :\ I don't mind the learning curve for crafting. I like that it seems like recipes are hidden and you need to do some experimenting to make things. Besides there will be sites that will have recipes on them. I'm thinking about making a cookbook myself. If you do the first local guildleves it does actually give you a tutorial, it just does it all in the chatbox. Yes UI customization and eliminating UI and mouse lag. Waiting 30 seconds for a menu to pop up when you are crafting is inexcusable. There is something of a con system, I think something when you target them is supposed to show up red, but I'm not sure what it is, only overhead this from someone else.
