Tyriont smiled softly at the girl, noting how easily she carried around that huge axe of hers. Oh, how deceiving appearances can be, he thought with a slight chuckle. "Aye, lass. That'll do just fine assuming you know how to cave a skull in with that axe you're carting around if we run into any trouble. Not that I'm expecting any, mind. Still, more the merrier, eh? Welcome aboard." He waved her aside and signaled for the next person to approach. As he did so, a cry came out from the Hyur woman he had earlier identified as Hana. "We be underway, ladies! Man yer stations, we'll be arriving at Limsa before the bell strikes midnight!"
-
"Conjury!" Tyriont clapped his hands and grinned. "Something we're in short supply of in my crew. As in, we don't have anyone who can do it." He clapped a hand on Xha'li's shoulder and gave a comforting smile. "Don't worry, mate. As it just so happens, I've got a bit of a soft spot right now for that particular story of yours. Got a new addition to my crew lately, forced out of his own tribe after he lost a fight. So tell y'what, you keep that gil...you'll be needing it once you get to Limsa, no doubt. But that new man on my crew? Lost an eye in that fight. Looks like it's healing pretty nicely, but couldn't hurt to have you take a look at it, eh? Give him a once over and we'll call it even." He patted the other man's shoulder and winked.

That was kinda fun.

Tyriont just stared at Desmond a moment before bursting out laughing. Once he had regained his compsure, he grinned at the man. "Oh, aye. Pirates are a real problem out here. Don't you worry about that though, we've got more than a fair bit of experience with them. Still, your gil's good and will be plenty to get you passage. If we do run into trouble and need your sword though, I'll give you the gil back. Fair's fair, after all." A slight smirk crossed his lips as he looked past Desmond and saw the orderly line that had formed behind him. By the Twelve, he thought, this lot are adorable. Straightening his features, he gestured to the next person in line, calling Xha'li up. "Right, what's your deal then?"

I hope someone can keep tabs and summarize the event The new date falls smack in the middle of Dragon*Con weekend so I'm no longer able to attend personally but I'l still very keen to hear how things go.

((My apologies for the delay, 60-70 hour work weeks have been killing me. I'd intended a more detailed post...but I doubt most of you care about the details of getting a ship set to sail anyway )) Tyriont peered over the side of the ship at Desmond's call. Seeing the girl down in the boat pointing an arrow at the other man in her tiny boat, he chuckled to himself. "Aye, get your arse up here, love! Make it fast!" Dashing back, he made his way up the small set of steps leading up to the ship's wheel as Salaah and Agile Wolf secured the ship's dinghy. As he took his position, a lean Hyur Midlander woman was moving quickly about the deck shouting commands at the other crewmembers on deck - a hulking behemoth of a blue-skinned Roegadyn man, two red-haired Elezen who looked as if they could be related, one male and one female, and a tiny extremely nervous looking Lalafell man. Moments later the sails had unfurled and the ship began to move away from the shore as Tyriont maintained his grip on the wheel. Glancing back, he saw that the furious man he'd left behind on shore was still there and called back with an apologetic wave. "Woulda been someone else if not me, mate! You're better off!" Before long, the small port was starting to vanish over the horizon and the ship was on its way. Tyriont beckoned over the red-haired male Elezen to take the wheel and stepped down to address his assembled passengers, clapping his hands. "Right then! Let's talk payment, shall we? Some of you look like you might be a tad hard up, so don't worry...I'm certainly not about to charge the same as those other buggers. Gil's preferred, but if you're short then I'll take whatever work you can offer on the ship over the next few hours. If that's what you're offering, I'll be sending you to talk to Hana over there." He waved his hand towards the Hyur woman who had been yelling orders before they set sail. "If you can't pay and you're too weak to work, then talk to me anyways. We'll work something out. Either way, we're getting the lot of you to Limsa Lominsa. Not about to throw any of you overboard now." He smiled warmly. "Now, who's first?"

[Q&A] Legacy and non-Legacy: What does it all mean?
Tyriont replied to Aysun's topic in FFXIV Discussion
One thing you might want to add, just to clarify utterly - that tattoo can be toggled so that it doesn't display. So a 1.0 character who was not at the battle - such as Tyriont - can choose not to have it ever display on their character. Otherwise, this is great and much-needed information. I'd also just like to throw out a brief counter to Demon Fox's point. Yes, it's entirely true that people who tend to portray "that one guy" tendencies can see the whole Warrior of Light angle as a 'legitimate' way to lord it over non-WoL players. But the thing about that guy? He's a dick. And I, for one, don't like to play with dicks. So no matter how much they try and 'legitimately' lord it over newer players, that won't help them when they very quickly find that nobody wants to RP with them. Y'know, 'cause they're a dick. -
Corvus Barbeque, Bazaar, and Benefit (planning)
Tyriont replied to Alothia's topic in Chronicled Events
I'll happily throw Ty in as a cook and/or performer. This sounds like a lot of fun -
In my case, this role is fulfilled by an alt. The primary antagonist of Ty's story is Denavial Calgar, which has been the case since I created those characters in FFXI. The problem with using a main as a villain is that you find very quickly that nobody wants to hang out with you IC because...well, you're evil. An alt allows you to have those villainous interactions without limiting your RP options. As a side note, I'm seriously considering maintaining two accounts this time around so I can have Den and Ty interact directly >.> Did that a bit in FFXI and it worked well and was a LOT of fun for me - and I'd like to think others as well.

Agile Wolf merely smiled at the suggestion that the furious man back on shore may have his own ship, although she started rowing noticeably faster. Before long, both boats had arrived at the Phoenix Flame proper. A large ship, built to the same specifications as the famous Astalicia which spent most of its days now moored in Limsa Lominsa. As they bumped up against the side, a rope ladder was tossed over the side and down to the vessels. Tyriont indicated for the other boat to empty first, and Salaah darted up the ladder while Agile Wolf kept it steady. "Either carry your stuff up with you, or give it to me and I'll toss it up when you're topside." the large woman ordered. "C'mon, make it fast." As she spoke, a second rope ladder was thrown down landing right in front of Tyriont's boat. Reaching over and grabbing it, he pulled the dinghy closer. "Alright ladies, up you go. Anything you can't carry, leave with me and we'll haul it up with the boat."
-
Tyriont grabbed the oars of the small boat and started rowing as soon as his passengers were safely on board. He glanced over at the other boat, signaling his crew members to allow the late arrival on board before their own departure. As both boats reached a somewhat safe distance, the docks erupted into noise and movement. From the same direction Tyriont himself had come from arrived a very large, very angry looking Roegadyn. He was brandishing what to him may have been a knife, but to a normal person was clearly a small sword. He waved the weapon in the air as he saw the boats pulling away, furious as he called out after them. "Ge' back 'ere, y'thrice curs'd son'uva dodo! I'll carve off them ears an' shove 'em right up yer..." Tyriont cut the man off, yelling back a retort. "Not really enticing me to return, friend! And I'll say it again, she told me she was single!" He shot an apologetic smile at his passengers, lingering a little at the sight of the clearly seasick girl. "Sorry about all that commotion. I assure you, our departures are usually much smoother. Don't worry about that fellow...he didn't seem like he had too much going on upstairs, if you understand. I hope you don't think me too terribly rude for not introducing myself to you properly. Once we reach the ship, we'll have time for pleasantries. Oh, and...if you're going to hurl, please do it over the side of the ship? It's quite cramped right now." Over in the other boat, Salaah and Agile Wolf caught each other's look and sighed. Agile Wolf smiled wryly at their passengers as she rowed. "Forgive the Cap'n. He's not as bad as he seems right now, I promise. He's just got a weakness something fierce when it comes to a pretty lass flashing him a bit of flesh. You can count on him when the going's rough, I swear to it." Salaah nodded, grinning. "Don't worry. Soon as we reach the Flame, we'll slow down and introduce ya proper like. Just sit back and enjoy the ride fer now!"

The Roegadyn glanced over Xha'li and Monty, appraising them and wincing a little at Xha'li said her name. "It's Agile Wolf. Xha'li and Monty, eh? Alright, sling yer stuff over by the boat and I'll have the Cap'n look you over when he gets here." Her glance shifted noticeably to the other end of the docks as she mentioned her Captain, before her gaze returned to her companion. Salaah, meanwhile, was busy taking stock of the rest of the potential customers. First, she gave Cima and Melle a pitying look. "Alright, alright. Enough with the theatrics. I don't know what yer real reason is for gettin' to Limsa and don't much care. If the Cap'n wants to help out, he'll help you out. But word of advice, loves? Spin a better sob story than that one. The Cap'n wasn't born yesterday and the 'sick old relative' angle got played out twenty years before either of you were both. G'wan and wait with the others. We'll find a way to get you to 'Grandpa'." She turned her attention to Faydrel and Desmond. "As fer you two...well, looks like the fella can handle himself in a fight, and sounds like you got the coin. The lady...aye, we always have work on board you can pay your passage with. Yer both in." As Salaah gestured for the two to join the small crowd by Agile Wolf, she heard a commotion from the other end of the docks. A very familiar sound. Glancing over, she locked eyes with Agile Wolf and noticed that her partner had heard it too. Nodding to each other, they said a single word simultaneously. "Ty." Agile Wolf raised her voice, addressing the gathering crowd and signaling for them to gather around, shut up and listen. "Pay attention, all of you! The Captain is on his way and will be here shortly. He'll speak with each of you and make final arrangements for your passage. If you've got a story to tell, I suggest you make it quick. We'll be leaving real soon after he arri..." Her words were cut off by shouting from the nearby crowd as a figure barreled through and almost fell. An Elezen male of average height, he had shoulder-length shaggy dark hair and a well-trimmed beard. He was dressed in a deep red cloth shirt slashed almost to the waist revealing a toned, weather-worn chest, along with black leather pantaloons and boots. Skidding to a halt, he glanced around until he spotted Salaah and Agile Wolf. "Ah, there!" The man dashed over, stopping in front of the crowd assembled around the two women. "We need to go, now. Code RB. These must be our passengers, yes?" Agile Wolf nodded. "Excellent. Brilliant! Greetings to you all! My name is Tyriont Gaidal, Captain of the Phoenix Flame. Now, usually at this point I'd love to hear your stories, take your gil and figure out who we're taking with us. As it stands, however..." Tyriont glanced behind him into the crowd, which was beginning to part. "...our departure time has been shifted up a tad. So, congratulations! You all get passage. We'll work the details out on board. Too many of us for our little boat though...no time for two trips. Alright. Let's see..." Tyriont paused thoughtfully for a moment, before pointing at Cima, Melle, and Faydrel. "You three, with me. The rest of you, hop in with Salaah and Agile Wolf." Without waiting for a response, he turned and cast his gaze over the docks. Settling upon a small fishing boat with nobody visibly attending it, he darted over and severed the rope binding it to the ballast with a flick of a thick knife pulled from inside his shirt before jumping into the boat and grabbing the oars. He called over his shoulder without looking back. "And don't look at me like that! We'll give it back. Now, c'mon!" Salaah and Agile Wolf exchanged a weary glance before moving towards their own boat, indicating for the rest of the group to follow suit.

The Miqo'te turned back to her partner and grinned, a look that screamed 'What did I tell you?'. She stretched her palms in front of her, fingers intertwined and began to address the inquiries. "Right! First up, you! Timing-looking fella!" She pointed a finger at the one-eyed Elezen. "I reckon we can cut you a deal. Go wait over by Aggy there, the Cap'n oughta be by soon and you two can work out the details." She turned her attention to the short male Miqo'te, looking puzzled for a moment as she glanced him over and wasn't able to spot a tail before shaking her head, seeming to dismiss it. "As for you...the gil ain't much, but we're not exactly rolling in conjurers on board lately, so you're in. Same like I told the other one, go back to Aggy and wait for the Cap'n." She indicated behind her with a thumb over her shoulder before turning to the rest of the crowd. "As for the rest of ya, don't be shy! What about you, greenie?" She hopped over to Cima and stopped in front of her, cocking her head. "You look like you're needing to get somewhere. Name's Salaah, Bos'n of the Phoenix Flame. What's yours?" The Miqo'te's companion - the one she'd called Aggy - watched with an expression equal parts irritation and amusement as she beckoned the first two takers over to her. Before they could start to approach, a noise in the distance caught her attention...one that sounded extremely, aggravatingly familiar. She shook her head and offered up a silent prayer that it wasn't what she thought it was. Otherwise, their dear Captain would likely be joining them sooner than expected...

As the sun began to set over the hills and mountains of Western Thanalan the light filtered through the sails and rigging of the Phoenix Flame, anchored within sights of Crescent Cove. From the docks, the silhouettes of various crew members could be seen on deck milling about performing various sundry tasks. After a few moments, a small dinghy was lowered over the side containing two figures. Once settled in the water, the larger of the two took up the oars and began the trip towards the docks. Upon reaching the docks, the smaller of the two - a flame-haired Miq'ote in leather pantaloons and a loose fitting cloth shirt - hopped nimbly onto the pier and roped the vessel to a bollard. Once secured, the other figure stepped onto the dock; a well-built Roegadyn woman with short-cut silver hair and worn, grey skin. She reached back into the dinghy and pulled out a sturdy looking sign, passing it to the Miq'ote. Together, they made their way off the docks and picked out a well shaded spot. Swinging out a support from the back of the sign, the Roegadyn set it in a visible spot so the message could be ready by as many passers-by as possible. The sign read "PASSAGE TO LIMSA LOMINSA. ASK FOR PRICING. LESS THAN 50,000 GIL THOUGH. PROMISE." Glancing over the wording, she rolled her eyes and sighed deeply. "I don't know why we let Felix write the sign, I really don't. We may as well add on 'Not a con, for real'. How are we going to find takers with this sodding thing?" Her companion gave a sympathetic smile. "I know, Aggy. But he worked so hard on it, it woulda broke his heart to not use it. It'll all be fine, you'll see. 'sides, that's why we're the ones out here. We look all cute, unassuming and approachable-like." She gave a goofy-looking grin and winked. "C'mon, let's get to work." She turned and started calling our towards the busy walkways. "Passage to Limsa Lominsa, leaving at midnight! Any offer considered! Don't pay outrageous prices for that 'official' ferry when you can sail with us!"

Not looking for podcast suggestions, rather suggestions for a podcast. Let me explain. As I've mentioned in several places, I'm part of the Load Bearing Bosses podcast crew. One thing I've been able to sell a few of the guys on is starting up a monthly podcast devoted to FFXIV, since I've not really found much filling that niche right now and I've seen/heard a few RPC members express the desire for one. What I want to ask all of you is, what type of content would you like to see in a podcast like that? Is that something you'd listen to? What would make you want to listen to it?

To me, that actually makes it the ideal place. New players coming through, getting to hear awesome stories? Potential new RPer generation right there! And yes, great idea. Do it.

RPC Mentorship Program ( PLEASE READ FIRST POST )
Tyriont replied to Ellie's topic in Chronicled Connections
Server: Balmung Primary Linkshell: Wild Sky Characters: Tyriont Gaiadl, numerous others as members of the Phoenix Pirates (primarily Wandering Lion, Salaah Latifoh and Agile Wolf) Style of Roleplay: Light-hearted adventure. While I'm not adverse to more serious plots and like them sprinkled in, I prefer to keep things light these days. Ty and his crew are very much Robin Hood types of characters, intent upon helping the downtrodden while retaining their own freedom. Beyond that, heavy. I prefer sticking to the lore as closely as realistically possible and will probably be IC 99% of the time in public unless I'm doing something with non-RPers. Strongest Skills: Merging RL pirate Lore into Eorzean lore in a way that's consistent with the original story. Making a character be somewhat 'villainous' in certain lights while still being likable. Finding ways for characters from wildly differing backgrounds to interact. -

Question about an OOC Free Company and IC LSes
Tyriont replied to synaesthetic's topic in RP Discussion
Wild Sky's OOC Free Company is designed with exactly that principle in mind - a Free Company for RPers to do endgame content with each other without having to worry about character interactions. I'm not sure what kind of cross-company content (if any) will be added since it sounds like you've got your own one founded already, but we'd be more than happy to work with you in future -
linkshell vs. free company: how do we use them?!
Tyriont replied to Darcey's topic in FFXIV Discussion
One thing I want to throw out in regards to the Free Company issue - because of the whole "only one Free Company thing" there's a few of us (such as Ren and myself) who are going to be working together to form a primarily OOC Free Company that's open to the RP community. No one shell will be tied into it hardcore, the intent is to allow everyone to get a chance to experience the FC content without having to worry about if your character fits in. It's still very much in the formative stages and nothing's really set in stone yet. However, any linkshell who doesn't want to form their own IC Free Company but still wants to join on that's tied to the RP community is welcome to join up and help us out. If any shells are interested in that, drop Renaise or I a line and we'll give you what little details we have ironed out thus far. -
It was a lot of fun, although a lot of work. As mentioned, we were primarily there to promote our podcast - we were the people handing out business cards with candy stapled to it I didn't do all that many panels, although I did get to check out the Voice Actor panel which was a blast. Earl Alexander entered the panel dressed as Louis from Left 4 Dead with someone on his back trying to eat him, causing the room to bust up laughing. Beyond that I spent most of my time in the exhibition hall - got hands on with Assassin's Creed 4 which I'm stupid excited for so that was awesome. We also managed to place 2nd (out of 100 teams) in the Pub Quiz, incredibly proud of that one.

By which you mean you'll separate us from the group using clever subterfuge and superior alien technology as you pick us off one by one, leaving our bodies to rot in the jungle and returning to the homeworld of your proud warrior civilization with our skulls as trophies? Because I'm kinda into that. I don't think the skull will be the trophy he brings back...which is still fine. IMMORTALIZE ME.
