No Longer Exists replied to Olofantur's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Hello everyone! It's Black Hat time! *Waves* Now then, every post (the angry ones included) has their merit and should be respected, naturally. I just wanted to point that out. Every single one needs to be respected, the arguing shouldn't have reached that level. It did because folks forgot the golden rule of community forums. The "Bill and Ted" rule: Be excellent to each other. As to the topic at hand, I'd like to address certain inconsistencies in a mature capacity. Let's begin. SE does not require your love or your money. This is an entertainment project and entertainment projects are not built with "time and term" in mind. I say "Time and Term" as measurements of lifespan. Like a film or a television show, it will run its course until it's no longer meeting financial criteria and then it will shut down. Square has a billion pies and two billion fingers in each of them (this is exaggeration intentionally). So really, one subscriber, a thousand subscribers, or five hundred angry RPers won't sway the ultimate direction of the game. In one respect, the Author's Holy Vision is the only absolute here and you, the subscriber, either respect that vision by paying to take part or you quit because you are unhappy with it. It's that simple. If your gym has mold growing on the walls, you can happily complain about it and the owner can happily ignore you. Ultimately, their business may or may not fail. Ultimately, you may sit there and complain, but the owner makes the final say. It is his/her choice to clean the mold up or leave it and risk being shut down. That's business. You are not the business, you are the consumer. Yes, they want your money. But to believe that your money entitles you to any sort of sway over the project is, unfortunately, wrong. I'm very sorry to say that, I understand it may hurt feelings. It must be said though. You're wrong. That belief will ultimately impact the community here and abroad negatively. Just as we respect each other's opinions, so too must we respect the people who have built the game we're loving/hating and the people who paid to implement the game for us to love/hate in the first place. I'd like to suggest taking a step back, a deep breath, and perhaps consider detachment a little bit. Out of concern for the health and safety of the community and individual, I say this. To further narrow the scope a bit, the decision to restrict the glamour system is actually a masterstroke. It's a trial system and just as housing had to be constantly retooled to be effective, so too will the glamour system. This is the prototype and it must be tested, what better way to do so than to give it to the community to fiddle with. Yoshi-P and the team do not strike me as megalomaniacal. They've made many concessions already and I think we should give them the benefit of the doubt. They -are- trying and they -do- their best. I expect to see the glamour system tweaked and altered as time passes (perhaps even replaced if it turns out to be too troublesome), but while the devs are giving us the opportunity to be part of the process; it is still their decision to make the final call on. Not the 15 dollar subscriber. Ultimately, I'm excited about this. Galen's a bit of a fashion nut, so mix and matching appropriately for maximum cool-factor works for me and I'm grateful that the devs implemented the system in the first place.....not angry with them for not doing it differently. After all, they could have not bothered. Cheers! -Black Hat -
I wholeheartedly agree with this and recommend Wayward Star, the FC is awesome and I'm on their linkshell as well!

Welcome to the game and to Gilgamesh. I'm Black Hat, player of Galen Aubrey. We'll try to get you into one of the Coalition Linkshells as soon as possible, since I noticed you asked there and that should help get you involved in ze RP. I would also suggest taking a gander (a look, not a male goose) at the Linkshells tab up top there and click on the Gilgamesh choice to see all the different linkshells and free companies. I'm sure you have already, but it's a good way to reference different groups and see which ones appeal to you as a player. Lots of great FCs out there, plus we've got myriad events going on as well. Hope to see you in game! Cheers! -Black Hat

...awwww, I'm on Begeren Colony Still, if there's a large enough group over there a couple nights a week, I could consider a server transfer. I also agree with what you said with the caveat of; 'fun' is completely in the eye of the beholder. We all want something different from our games... FFXIV failed to deliver an enjoyable experience for me, but I can see why others like it so much. Plus... it helps keep SE in business so yay! I've found that every game has a group of negative critics who focus solely on what the game didn't provide as opposed to what it did. Even though swtor is by far my favorite MMO I've played, I'd still give it a 'B'. MMO's in general just don't seem to deliver everything they could. @Black Hat "Some of us had been trying to get a dedicated SWTOR group together for a night or two a week, Asgarn was one of us and he seemed to need a little break BUT I'm still totally up for SWTOR play." As stated above I'm on Begeren Colony, but would consider rolling on a different server to play a couple nights a week! We're in the teens levelwise, so you should be able to catch up pretty easily. If memory serves, we ran the esseles and that was it. I don't know about a big enough group, considering it was Asgarn, LC and myself. We'd had a fourth, but that player never got back to us. I'm available most days and nights for SWTOR and I believe I have a small cadre of characters on BC already, so I'm flexible with where I play. I just love the atmosphere of the game itself. PM me with your preference.

Some of us had been trying to get a dedicated SWTOR group together for a night or two a week, Asgarn was one of us and he seemed to need a little break BUT I'm still totally up for SWTOR play. As to the other MMOs, I've given up on waiting for World of Darkness. CCP can't keep its stuff together and they teaser a brief, snail-pace effort now and then. The Phoenix Project has made more progress with their development than CCP has in years on WoD. If I had to bet which will come out first with better effort, my money'd be on TPP and City of Titans. Wildstar looked entertaining to me and I'm not so much of a stickler for the aesthetics. It was nice to see a sci-fi MMO that didn't take itself too seriously. My gripe with EVE and such is exactly that. ZOMG, it's a video game, not life 2.0. Still, the reviews thus far have been pretty "meh". I've never been an EQ fan. WoW was fun for awhile and so was LOTRO, but it loses its appeal over time. I'm always aware that FF14 will get to that point too with its endgame. (I mean, c'mon. We can see the signs already, admit it.) This Landmark thang just seems like desperation. No offense to the franchise. Never heard of Bless until now. Took a look at the videos and I don't see much staying power in it. Cookie Cutter, despite touting epic storyline design and lush graphics. Anywho, that's my take on things.

Howdy! Black Hat here, one of the resident Gilgameshians! Both servers have a thriving RP community right now, so it's really a measure of choice than statistic. As a side note, the game is opening world transfer to Legacy Servers next month! Originally, Balmung was a Legacy server. In loose terms, it's a server comprised of players from the original 1.0 version of the game. Balmung was touted as the official RP server at the time of relaunch and because of that, it has a head start where the RP is concerned. Most RPers started there when the servers beta'd and then went live. Gilgamesh, on the other hand, is non-legacy. It was a new(ish) server at launch but now, many months into the game, the difference between the two is rather minimal. I played on Balmung first, then transferred to Gilgamesh and found that the Gilgamesh community is just as lively and entertaining with events as Balmung is. My suggestion would be to meet some folks on here, cruise the Linkshells tab up top there and see if any of the free companies on it appeal to you as an RPer. Make contact, then decide what server to be on. It's all about having fun, after all. Cheers! -Black Hat

Good looking out, Olofantur! Thanks! -Black Hat

She is on Gilgamesh...*clears throat* .....what?

Bring the gloves up, people! (That's boxing talk for remember the rules of engagement!) Let's not attack each other, the conversation's been pretty amazing thus far and everyone has lots of good ideas/input. Some tensions seem to running high, so let's try to remember that this is a community. We're all friends here (relatively speaking). Cheers! -Black Hat

I would recommend the Harbingers of the Dawn. They're on the Linkshell page, they're often IC and have scheduled events for both RP and gameplay going on; but they all are fantastic players who are patient and a lot of fun. No one there will give you a hard time about jargon or anything. When I played on Balmung, that was the FC I was with and I really enjoyed playing and RPing with them. Cheers! -Black Hat

Welcome back, Risha! Toss me a friend request if you like, I'm usually RPing even when level-grinding. As it says in the box on the side, my character is Galen Aubrey. Cheers! -Black Hat

[Gilg] LADIES' NIGHT OUT- Open to all ladies!
No Longer Exists replied to Xifang's topic in Chronicled Events
WHOA WHOA WHOA. Male entertainment can be there but if they're men not shaking their stuff, they get shunned?? Double Standard! Y'all are asking for a freeze spell in the springs. Half the fun of a ladies night out for us menfolk is the freedom to follow the wimmenz around, spy on them awhile and get bored THEN go slay Behemoth and wear it's ears like wings as testament to our MANLINESS! Take that away and the whole thing loses some of its splendor, we need the eye candy and innocuous discussions about shoes and/or gender specific hormonal activities to motivate us to run screaming for familiar ground: hard liquor and mortal danger. RESPECT THE CIRCLE OF LIFE. (This has been a Black Hat teasing/bump. I hope you have a great time!) -Black Hat -
Rank 3 achieved! Just a quick update! As our characters fall into position and preparations come to a close, we will be reaching out to other FCs in the next few weeks to begin setting our events!
-
I'm free tonight (aka right now until I get sleepy) and I'm adding folks to my friends list now in game.
-
Aside from the Valentione's day RP events and whatnot, I have quite a bit of freedom starting tonight and all through the weekend for SWTOR. SO! Just say when and I'll be able to get on. Also! Final vote on a guild (or whatever they're called) name? I can toss about sign ups for it once it's made. We had one suggestion: Republic Privateer Company (or RPC) and that's all. Let me know what folks think!

Other than being fanatically devoted to Ifrit, the antagonist of the Ash storyline is quite sane but that's the point here. Being tempered by a primal fundamentally alters an individual's mind. I didn't want to comment on this thread earlier because my initial reaction to it was less than favorable. I sort of did this: :frustrated: However, after getting over that flicker of nerd rage, I feel that I would like to applaud and thank Nat for bringing this up and developing a take on it that's rather unique. A man-made primal tempering a person, it's unique and fresh. (I assume so due to the character's wiki page history, yes...I looked at it for moar info) In that regard, if my assumption is true then go with the best possible aspects to compliment your storyline! Enjoy! As to the lore, each tempered is autonomous, yes. However, there's an obvious change in that the will of the primal guides them. Usually (in game), that guidance is to find a way to summon the primal to the material plane or do something the primal wants done. Cheers! -Black Hat

Smuggler made! Name: T-Dogg Revising my original personality matrix a bit.
-
I'm leaning toward Scoundrel only because I played Gunslinger through 30ish with my ex-girlfriend and it's sort of a one trick pony in that respect. Scoundrel seems more versatile.
-
Welcome to the RPC! Good to meet you and I hope you enjoy everything the fine folks here have submitted so far. Lots of great fun to be had! Any questions? Ask away. Cheers! -Black Hat

That sounds wickedly fun, Asgarn. Sidenot, I almost typed "Asgard" instead of your name. Anywho! Smuggler background: Not sure which advanced class I'll do yet, but it doesn't matter really. Both can DPS if memory serves. Born among the stars of the outer rims, he's known nothing but smuggling, piracy, and freedom. That makes him of a loose moral standard, with a penchant for credits, and a lazy, self-serving attitude. It's also made him "street-smart" rather than intelligent. He's never had a family per se, but he's had a few crews he's worked with until finally getting enough creds for his own ship (WHICH GETS STOLEN) so that'll be his main concern in game. 8-) He'll have the capacity to become "friends" with the others, even regard them as crewmembers if they can get past his snark, etc. but that'll be more of an RP thang.
-
I'll have my smuggler built and ready to go!
-
Ha! Republic Privateer Company. I like it and it's our first official submission. Anyone else have a name suggestion?
-
Absolutely LOVE the Drifters! This FC has all sorts of irons in the fire with different aspects of the game and RP itself. Fun, Friendly, and Full of great players! *Stamps the BHDRP seal of approval on all of them. ALL OF THEM!* >.> -Black Hat

Okay, here's my proposed plan! Since we have more than four people interested and I have a plethora of Ebon Hawk characters available to me atm (I'm about to pare down), I propose newbies on Ebon Hawk officially AND I will use my old 50 to create us a guild (or whatever they're called). So let's brainstorm a name. That will also help with keeping track of all us RPers when we get on to play rather than a massive friendslist. Let's get creative! Also, totally going smuggler. Cheers! -Black Hat

No rush! And if you're on Balmung then definitely check out the Harbingers, they were my FC when I was on Balmung. If you swing over to Gilgamesh, send me a private message and we can chat about your character a bit before I point you toward an FC! Again, Nice meeting you and welcome back!
