The sheer amount of "hurr hurr we're so much better than those overly sensitive tumblrinas" going on in this thread is giving me a headache.
-
Yes, this is still active as a Free Company and as an IC/OOC set of linkshells. Nobody in Lansquenet uses this site much, so we haven't been keeping this page as up-to-date as would be most appropriate, I fear.

We are still active, though we've been getting through new applicants a bit slowly. My apologies! The applications have been received and they will be seen to soon. Thank you for your patience.

WikiLore planning and discussion
ansemaru replied to FreelanceWizard's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I might have something that's of use for this. Or, rather, several somethings. Over the past month, I've undertaken an effort to compile all lore-related text from disparate sources in the game- various logs (minion, mount, sightseeing), leves, fates, item descriptions, npc dialogue, etc.- and distill it into a resource organized around lore information rather than un-networked gameplay description such as in the cases of the Gamerescape wiki and xivdb. It's incomplete as of now and done wholly independently of actual wiki projects, but I can lend you the efforts I've made to compile, double-check, and cite these texts under the umbrella of Operation Raimdelle. -

A Haunting Wake [[Halloween Event | Nov 1]]
ansemaru replied to belderiver's topic in Chronicled Events
Sharp-eyed forumites might recall this as the same play Lansquenet performed for Halloween a year ago, back when we were on Gilgamesh. Now that we're on Balmung, it will return, bigger, better, and scarier than ever before. Look forward to... Professor Joho, the Mad Alchemist! As performed by the inimitable Cendrillon Braids! The Lovely Doctor Lucrece! Portrayed by none other than yours truly, Aumeric Chassebel. The Lovelorn Bodyguard, Valentine! Fresh-faced newcomer Ayin'a Quist will be playing the part. The Indefatigable Narrator, Skoena Fraewyn! And of course, a whole host of gracious staff, who are in no way eyeing your purses or jewels, and the many, many special guests we expect to see. We hope to see you there. -
Couples, you say? Couples, I can provide! And by couples, I mean couple. Anyway, here's Aumeric and Thaarus.

Aumeric casually throws out "gods" and "by the twelve" in conversation, but he is not one of true faith. Not by a long shot. Though he was born under the signs of Oschon and has such documented on the records of his birth, he honors the god no more than any of the others. His parents are far from devout, and his only real exposure to religious matters was through text. The first deity who had any bearing on his life was a far more tangible one, with a far more tangible role in the world around him- Garuda. While he doesn't precisely worship her, he has a real appreciation for how terrible and powerful the primal goddess is, as a ward of the Ixal and as a summoner who wields the power of her egi. And that has colored how he sees the hierarchy of gods in Hydaelyn- primals are real, and powerful, to be feared or honored or fought or worshipped, and in some ways are more valid gods than the absent Twelve.

The Screenshot Thread [Tag Your Spoilers]

You're gonna get us kicked out by Rowena, Cris. D'you think she wants us making out on her doorstep? That's gonna cost 500 tomestones of mythology. Each. -
Host Club | Rendezvous | August Opening!

What in the world is that accent even supposed to be? Forgive me for asking, but even trying to read it out loud, I haven't got the faintest clue. -
SCH's military background - is it really that important?
ansemaru replied to JFrombaugh's topic in RP Discussion
Summoners weren't just the Allagan military might- they were specifically developed as a counter to the primals summoned by the people of Meracydia, which Allag was attempting to invade at the time. Content in the Binding Coil of Bahamut, however, implies that the summoners weren't the only weapon the Allagan Empire turned against the Meracydians, however. -
Practical and impractical together could perhaps work... perhaps. What Aumeric is trying to find is some kind of method to block or remove aetheric attunement in another person, so I'm not entirely sure if a standard or nonstandard approach is more helpful in this case.
-
So, not to go into much detail, my character is on the lookout for those knowledgeable and gifted in magic, and specifically, the thaumaturgic sort. As a pseudo-summoner with a very piecemeal and non-standard education in magic, there's a lot of stuff he just does not know about and does not fully understand, and at the moment in his storyline, he's trying to ferret out help with a magical problem beyond his personal level of understanding. Granted, in this case, he's mostly jumped to the conclusion that a thaumaturge can help. Out of character, I'm not 100% sure who can and cannot deal with the problem at hand, but IC, I'm more or less dedicated to at least trying to find out. If you're at all interested, I'd love to get a response. I'll be able to go into more detail then, but I don't want to beat around the bush and bore people right now- just want to test the waters.

It depends on the definition you want to use for "tempering", but at the very least I would say that the Echo qualifies as being tempered by Hydaelyn. I imagine that if the Twelve are what they are believed to be, they would also be capable of it. Elder primals, for that matter, are likely capable but in far less need of doing so, since their shared commonality appears to be "is already summoned and cannot be permanently removed from the world", and they would therefore have far less use for faithful servants to summon them.
-
I will be in attendance- though with Ahlek'zi, not Aumeric. Obviously, I can't have both there, as much as I wish I could. The matter of a date, of course, is still very much up in the air...
-
It's funny, the second one is at least partially done that way because of my graphics settings for the game. My draw distance is very low, since I'm on a laptop, so long distances tend to get very hazy in comparison to my character, and this drawing was meant to reflect that effect a bit.
-
Time to commit some acts of necromancy, since I've drawn more FFXIV fanart! Aumeric experiencing consequences for his association with Garuda, or something like this. It probably won't ever be canon. We can hope. Also Ahlek'zi, somewhere in Thanalan. I'm probably going to draw him a lot more now that he's got his shiny new 2.2 hairstyle.

Our story is still ongoing, for whatever it's worth. Just in a smaller capacity.

Have you seen Iron Lake? There are definitely regions of La Noscea that qualify as volcano-wrecked and inhabited by pollution-spewing engineers. Of course, said engineers are kobolds. But hey- a backstory involving kobolds could potentially be really interesting.

I wouldn't call my primary character "good" by any stretch of the imagination. Certainly, he's kind and good-hearted, but he's also a member of a band of criminals posing as actors, an inveterate liar, a spy, and an Ixal sympathizer. There's not much cackling or moustache-twirling going on, but he's definitely not a good guy. But I think it's as much a matter of perspective as anything else. Is a free company dedicated to supporting the laws and culture of Gridania or Ul'dah "good" when Gridania is xenophobic and Ul'dah corrupt? Is a free company dedicated to fighting the beast tribes "good" when not all members of the beast tribes are tempered villains? They'd all certainly describe themselves as good, whether or not they are.

I'll think about it. Definitely want to poke around my options, but your FC does seem like a nice fit- and having met you and a few others from it on my main, I know that you've got a great deal of interesting folks. Mind if I drop by the FC house ICly sometime and maybe get a feel for how we match up?
-
It seems that a month has passed since my last visit to this forum. I hope you are all doing well. A lot has happened in the time between Lansquenet's Valentione's performance and now, and I don't want to go into excessive detail, but to make a long story short, my secondary character is out a Free Company, and I'd like to amend that- but I'm admittedly ill-informed of what my options are. I'd like to find an RP-heavy FC which would welcome a WHM who is played as a Conjurer of Stillglade Fane. Preferably not a military or criminal-focused FC- something with more of a focus on healing, adventuring, or protecting Eorzea would probably be ideal. I don't want to be too picky- most of all, I just want a community of other players to RP with on my healer character without having to shoehorn him into a group that's a difficult fit IC. So pitch me your Free Companies. Or linkshells- I can always have more linkshells of fellow RPers.
-
Sadly to say, Lansquenet has been disbanded as a Free Company. We persist as a LS and are planning on putting on a musical homage to Final Fantasy VI at some point in the near future. If you are still interested in the LS, please contact Aumeric Chassebel or Cendrillon Braids.

If we're going by similarities, Ivalice is absolutely one of the closest FF worlds to Hydaelyn. The number of actually recycled monster models, the visual/aesthetic similarities (thanks, Akihiko Yoshida!) and spoilers regarding elements of cosmology certainly imply it heavily enough. But we shouldn't discount connections to the world of FFV (once again, spoilers for 2.1 content). Hydaelyn has a lot of potential connections to the worlds of other games, and only time will tell if anything comes of it.

I'm mostly just handwaving "Miqo'te men are extremely rare" when it comes to RP. It's contradicted enough by the general player population and the RP community population that maintaining the assumption that male Miqo'tes are rare seems extremely silly. But there are a few fairly simple justifications that I'd be more than willing to go along with, if I were forced to justify why reality doesn't reflect lore. For example, there could have been a major population boom among Miqo'te anywhere from ten to twenty years before the Calamity. The overall population of Miqo'te increased due to availability of resources, and more and more young ones have been leaving their tribes or clans to live life in the city-states or as adventurers. For reasons both related to intra-tribe cultural stability and gene pool diversity, as well as simply availability of resources post-Calamity, it would stand to reason that a large number of young adult Miqo'te have recently been encouraged or made to leave their more insular tribe or clan settlements in order to live in the big city or to become adventurers.
