1. The final day of the Grand Tournament of the Fury concluded with perhaps its most exciting event yet: the joust! Brave lancers from across Eorzea gathered to tilt one-one-one in a relentless contest of strength and birdsmanship. Fortune did not hold back on any of the contestants, and many riders went home de-birded! After many rounds of unseating their opponents, the Bellworks’ own Olivie Heuloix of Limsa Lominsa emerged as Champion of the Lance, with Alabaster Requiem, also of Limsa, as the runner up! Olivie takes home a portrait by Lord Evariste, a Highland Barding, an Orthodox Barding, a Topiary Chocobo, an Oriental Striking Dummy, a Painted Foothills orchestrion roll, and 250,000 gil, while Alabaster takes home 100,000 gil! With this, our four champions have been named and this year’s Grand Tournament of the Fury has come to a close. The Bellworks would like to extend a special thank-you to: The Ashen Clinic ( @ashen-clinic ) for expertly healing all four events, and for dealing with unexpected surprises (like arrows in knees!). Hana O’hana ( @hana-ohana ) for their delightful vending services during the melee and magic tournaments. Sin’dell Shirazi ( @alluringjewel ) and Perne Archevauliere ( @porcelain-and-blood ) for their dazzling halftime performances. The Crystal Chronicle for their outstanding reporting coverage of the whole tournament. Evariste Baudhuin ( @aethericseafarer ) for donating amazing artwork to our four champions. Rosaire Ledigne ( @eggplant-squire ) and Perrine Pepin ( @halonic ) for crafting all of our outstanding prizes. Brave Horizon ( @brave-horizon ) and Xanadu Mol ( @tonberryslantern ) for being the announcers everyone loved to hate. Kail Gerrad ( @erstwhile25 ) for taking everyone’s money--err, running the betting tables and for assisting in commentary. Our arbiters: Martiallais Heuloix ( @mythrilreflections ), Gwenneth Gilrouis ( @rose-in-the-stone ), Valroit Faucheux ( @hasty-touch ), Arcian Martell ( @arcianmartell ), Aedos Valleritignon ( @bourgeoisfury ), Perrine Pepin ( @halonic ), Haru Qwey ( @haru-qwey ), and Marcelloix Dariustel (@korlynn ) for keeping everything running so smoothly. And you – yes YOU! – all of Balmung, for your generosity, support, and attendance. The crowd and the competitors were easily the best part of these events, and it was a blast simply watching everyone’s RP and reactions, and getting to interact with you all. We hope you had as much fun as we did – we couldn’t have done it without you! We hope you’ll join us all on Friday, June 9th, at 7 PM EST in the Pillars for our Charity Ball, to help us celebrate our four champions and to bid a proper farewell to Ishgard before Stormblood hits. Stay tuned for more info!
2. It was a day of hot chocolate, beautiful bardery, and rock-bottom puns! The Tournament of the Wand kicked off in earnest with Eorzea’s greatest magicians going head-to-head, and as the day went on, the fireworks only grew bigger! After many close and explosive showdowns, our victors at last emerged: Champion of the Wand Tsuki Amaranth of Gridania, and runner up Ajisai Ito of Doma! Tsuki takes home a portrait by Lord Evariste, a Great Gubal Lamp, an Orchestrion, a Revenge of the Horde music scroll, and 250,000 gil, while Ajisai takes home 100,000 gil. Well fought, ladies! As always, we’d like to thank @ashen-clinic for their healing services, as well as @hana-ohana for the flowers and hot chocolate, and the stunning miss Sin’dell Shirazi ( @alluringjewel ) for her musical performance this eve! With this, we’re down to just one final event, and we’ve been saving the best for last: jousting! Join us for our exciting conclusion this Sunday, May 28th at 7 PM EST, and come cheer your favorite champions on! See you there!
3. The second day of the Grand Tournament of the Fury has finally wrapped up, and what a day it was! This was easily our biggest turnout yet! The best warriors from around the realm gathered in a fierce competition for fortune and the Fury’s favor. Many of the bouts were brutal and nail-bitingly close! But after a long and hard-fought day, the victors emerged: Champion of the Blade Kiera Hawkeye of Ala Mhigo, and runner up Claire Nyhmidu of Ishgard! Claire takes home 100,000 gil, while Kiera takes home a portrait drawn by Lord Evariste, a Sword and Shield of the Round, a Heroes Orchestrion Roll, and 250,000 gil! Well done, ladies! We’d also like to thank The Ashen Clinic once again for their outstanding healing services, and Hana O’hana for their lovely flower and hot chocolate vending! Thank you guys for joining us! The Tournament continues next weekend with the Tournament of the Wand this Friday, May 26th! We hope to see you there!
4. Gotta admit though, it made you the star of the show! *grins* I felt so awful for Rinh ICly though. Poor Rinh.
5. The Grand Tournament of the Fury kicked off with a literal bang with the Tournament of the Range! Tonight, the realm’s best marksmen and markswomen gathered to square off in a sharpshooting contest, and after a close competition, the winners emerged: Champion of the Range, Ser Vilette Laurent of Ishgard, and runner up, Leanne Delphium of Gridania! Vilette takes home a portrait by Lord Evariste, a hunting hawk, an Eternal Wind orchestrion scroll, and 250k gil! Leanne takes home 100k gil! Congratulations and well done, ladies! Ishgard has now claimed victory in one event. Can the other city-states refuse her further titles, or will the republic reign supreme? Find out this Sunday, the 21st, as we kick off a gigantic melee with the Tournament of the Blade! See you there!
6. Hey everyone! There's only one more day to sign up! If you'd like to compete in any or all of the events, simply PM me here with your character name, which city state (if any) you'd like to represent, and which events you'd like to compete in. If you're not on the list, we may not be able to get you in to compete on the day of the tournament! This year's turnout may very well wind up being bigger than last year's! Thank you so much for the interest and enthusiasm. We're just a few days out from the first event. We hope you're all as excited as we are! See you there!
7. Hey everyone! The Tournament is just around the corner, so I'd like to take this time to remind everyone that if you want to compete in any or all of the events, that you need to register by Wednesday, May 17th! Come help us say farewell to beautiful Ishgard right before Stormblood hits! The Dufresne Bellworks will be hosting a good old-fashioned medieval-style tournament once again. There will be four events and four champions, with herald announcers to keep you hyped!: Ranged Tournament/Champion of the Mark Melee Tournament/Champion of the Blade Magic Tournament/Champion of the Wand Chocobo Jousting/Champion of the Lance This year, the Tournament will be split over 4 days across the span of two weeks, in order to ensure everyone can attend all four events. There will be no grand champion competition this year; instead, we want to celebrate the four individual champions during the ball! As always, winning a championship also means winning fabulous prizes! (Prize list TBA!) This year, we’ll have a Professional Bookmaker with whom you can place (RPed, no actual gil, please) bets. Whoever wagers successfully on the outcome of the tournament can also win a fun prize! Additionally, we’re looking to have a fairgrounds area where spectators can buy food and merchandise and listen to live performances between the bouts. If you are a part of a bard, merchant, or culinary FC and would like to set up a stall, let’s talk! Please send a PM on tumblr or the RPC, or an in-game /tell to Eliane Dufresne, Gwenneth Gilrouis, Hyrtwyda Eyhafrynwyn, or Martiallais Heuloix. 10. Recruitment is once again OPEN! It's an exciting time for Eorzea. Now on the cusp of industrialization, the city-states have the potential to prosper as never before; to meet Garlemald and Sharlayan as equals; to no longer need fear the lost horrors of Mhach and Allag. But in order to reach our potential, we need to work together -- no matter who we are and where we're from. No effort is too small. Join us and we can help forge a brighter path for the entirety of the Eorzean Alliance. Welcome to the Dufresne Bellworks, a charitable business based in Ishgard and operating throughout Eorzea to ring in a brighter tomorrow. If you're new here and wish to know more, here is a detailed description of who and what were are both IC and OOC. If you're interested in applying to the Bellworks, please consider reading about the application process, and then feel free to submit an application by clicking that "Recruitment" menu button, or by following this link!
11. Garlemald is huge and most legions are actually busy with their own duties stationned in all its regions as far as I know. But they sure probably can afford to send more than the first time. That's what this specific line seemed to hint at to my eyes. IIRC there's something to this. I think it was suggested in the MSQ around about the time Yugiri showed up that Garlemald had been pretty over-extended, similar to late Rome, and that they were starting to have difficulty maintaining control within their own borders when the war of succession hit. That's in part why Doma tried to revolt -- it didn't last long, but apparently there was enough of a gap that they made the attempt anyway. I'm pretty sure Gaius' legion really was all they could spare. (But he was doing his own thing anyway, right?)
12. The sense I got was that Papalymo was "dead" the way Louisoix was "dead"...and that maybe he'll now be a shade-thing wandering around in the new moon, that we'll eventually have to fight for tears and sads. I think it was Yda who said, "he knows what that spell entails"...so I kind of got the sense it was more/worse than death. Still, I was pretty impressed with the storyline so far. I'm REALLY interested to see how Garlemald reacts to all this. I felt they communicated the empire's power really well with the spider scene...it helped remind us that they're terrifying, and they're huge for a reason (Garlemald, I mean, but also spiders). On the topic of hamfistedness... >.< I'm still facepalming that Ishgard both a: apparently feels bad for being isolationist, and B: hasn't even recovered from the Dragonsong War but is now loyally marching off to defend their new best friends. I expected it, and I'm sure they have to do it for gameplay reasons, but oy.
13. Eliane had spent the better portion of the day bustling between the kitchen and the tent. Sometimes she helped with the cooking; sometimes she fussed with the decorating; and sometimes she had to be gently reminded that micro-managing was a bad thing. Running a tight ship was habitual for her, but she had to admit they were right. This wasn't just her ship, after all, and she had no right to plow over everything now. But it was more than just that. Starlight was her favorite holiday, and she believed wholeheartedly in the spirit of it. Last cycle, she had walked down to the Knight determined to feed the Brume with just herself and a few knights. Instead, she found more willing hands than she ever could have hoped for. But this cycle...this cycle was beyond her wildest dreams. Now everyone could be treated as nobles for a day, or at least close to it. She wanted to make it as close as possible. Martiallais' words still echoed in her head, and she'd been unable to shake the guilt from a few nights prior, when he pointed out how much food went to waste at the holiday feasts of nobles. That was normal for her, or normal enough she'd never once given it a second thought. And now...well, now she had to make up for it all the more. Of course, that meant somehow having to one up THIS banquet even more next cycle... Still, the lady took a step back and grinned, hoping she hadn't gotten in the huntress' way too much. She took one last look over the grounds and gave a satisfied nod. It was going to be a perfect night. She couldn't wait to see who all showed up.
14. Please note that due to a recent influx of applicants, we've had to temporarily close recruitment so that all the new members have time to settle in. Thank you everyone for your overwhelming interest! We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope to be able to re-open soon. Stay tuned!
15. We recently redecorated our FC house, and now we're appropriately fancy! A huge thanks to our stunning designer, Edda Eglantine, and to everyone who's donated their private rooms to help make our house a little bigger! Here's just a few of the lovely places we have to RP in now:
16. It's another exciting week as the Bellworks prepares to host its Grand Tournament Charity Ball, today at 7 EST! We'd also like to welcome the newest member of our officer team, the lovely Gwenneth Gilrouis! And finally, we'd also like to welcome our newest recruit, Malliri Veinwright! You're just in time for extra ponce.
17. The Grand Tournament of the Fury has drawn to a close, but the second day of festivities proved even more exciting than the first! The night was full of tense action and close competitions, with many victors emerging by a hair’s width. At last, after many hard-fought rounds, our champions emerged! The final results are as follows: Grand Champion: Percival Turner Percival took home a “Heroes” Orchestrion roll, a Savage Arc of Triumph, and 20,000 gil. Champion of the Blade: Guillanaux Oirellain Guillanaux took home a Falconer’s Tunic and a Stuffed Mandragora Queen. Champion of the Wand: Iieha Beautemps Champion of the Range: Seiko Mamushi Champion of the Lance: Percival Turner Percival also took home an Orthodox Barding and a High House Supper set. So many thanks are in order, I don’t even know where to start. In no particular order… Gwenneth Gilrouis – for her mad wrangling and organizational skills. This literally wouldn’t have happened without you. Martiallais Heuloix – for networking, advertising, brainstorming, and too much to count Aramis Dumas – for the original Tournament idea and for hashing out SO MANY RULESETS. Also for pro announcer skills. Rosaire Ledigne of The Explorer’s Society and Perrine Pepin for crafting and donating nearly all of our prizes. Stroud Forscythe of the Heartsong Sanctuary for his donation of the Arc of Triumph and the gil. Fearless Wolf, Brave Horizon, Hyrtwyda Eyhafrynwyn, Arcian Martell, Graeham Ridgefield, Defiant Bride, and Piers Hayward for volunteering, arbiting, overseering, brainstorming, announcing, and being generally awesome. Warren Castille and J’espi Inama for sharing information and experience with a bunch of clueless noobs. And last but not least, You! All of the competitors and spectators who turned up to hang out with us and have fun! You are what truly made this event! There’s probably several other people I’ve missed. If I forgot your name, I’m sorry, it wasn’t on purpose! It’s been a long day and I’m exhausted. On behalf of all of the Bellworks, we sincerely thank you and hope you had as much fun as we did. This was a tremendous amount of work, but seeing the huge turnout and everyone really into it made everything worthwhile. We’ll have final, concrete info on the celebratory ball within the next few days here, so stay tuned! And thank you again!
18. After two hard-fought competitions, our first champions have emerged! Congratulations to our Champion of the Range, Seiko Mamushi, and Champion of the Wand, Iieha Beautemps! Seiko takes home a Clockwork Barrow and Alpine Dinner Set, and Iieha takes home a High House Bustle! The tournament resumes this Sunday, at 7 PM EST in Camp Dragonhead for the Melee Tournament and the Joust! Please arrive early and gather in the courtyard in front of the stairs if you wish to compete! And thank you for making tonight an awesome night! We hope to see you for Round 2!
19. We'd like to welcome our newest members, Narantuya Kahkol and Kinsei Hoshikawa! And it's a busy week for us indeed, as the Grand Tournament of the Fury is happening at last! Come and join us for an Ishgardian-style medieval joust! You may even take home some prizes and honors in the process!
20. Major update bump with final info, including rules and prizes! Come join us this week for some good old fashioned poncy fun!
21. Can any Brits in the house offer an ELI5 on how this whole thing works? <.< I'm a Yank lurking in Canada, so I only kind of know about the British government. As I understand it though, the TLDR is: House of Commons -- Commoners, are democratically elected. House of Lords -- Clergymen and Nobility. Initially -all- noble families were given a seat, then they had to be appointed. Aymeric -- How the hell do we refer to him? Is he the Lord Speaker or the Lord Chancellor now? Both Houses -- Either can introduce a bill, but it can't pass without the other's approval? Neither can stop a bill from going into law, but they can scrutinize it and send it back for editing until a compromise has been reached (in theory anyway)? It seems like the system has been through a lot of reform, especially since the early 2000's, so it'd be interesting to know which version SE is imagining here. Man, they left so much unexplained.
22. All good questions! Sorry for not clarifying earlier. We'll meet at Camp Dragonhead to begin with and spread out from there so that there's (hopefully) not too much spam flying around. The Ball is still TBD because we might be pushing it back a week, so sadly no info on that quite yet. I'll post updates as soon as I know.
23. Calling all champions of Eorzea! To be held this 23rd and 25th Sun of the Third Umbral Moon (Friday, June 24th and Sunday, June 26th starting at 7 PM EST.), at Camp Dragonhead and the Gates of Judgement, a Grand Tournament for masters of all artes and disciplines, in celebration of Eorzean unity and prosperity. Entry is open to all who would prove themselves worthy of the Fury’s favour, with a ball to follow celebrating the winners hosted in the gardens of House Pepin on (July 9th at 7PM EST, at the Sanctum of the Twelve). Proceeds from attendance will go toward reconstruction and relief efforts in Ishgard. Please arrive early and express your interest to the officials if you wish to compete. ========================================================= OOC: It’s this week, everyone! The Dufresne Bellworks will be hosting a good old medieval-style tournament here on Balmung! There will be four events and four champions: -Chocobo Jousting/Champion of the Lance -Martial Duels/Champion of the Blade -Wizard Duels/Champion of the Wand -Marksmanship/Champion of the Range The tournament will be split over two days, with the Marksman/Wizard events on the 24th, and the Martial Tournament/Joust on the 26th. A competitor may compete in multiple events if they wish and, at the end of all four, all four champions will square off in a final melee to decide the Grand Champion. The Grand Champion will receive extra prizes and additional honors! ========================================================= FAQ and Rules: What is the Grand Tournament? The Grand Tournament is a traditional medieval-style tournament hosted by House Dufrense of Ishgard. The tournament seeks to promote unity in the Eorzean Alliance and to honor Halone by pitting the realm’s best warriors against one another in search of a Grand Champion. The IC proceeds from tournament registry and attendance will go toward reconstruction and relief efforts in Ishgard. Is the tournament for Ishgardians only? Nope! Everyone is welcome to either compete or spectate! Come show us poncy elves how it’s done, or hang in the crowd and cheer on your friends! Where is the tournament being held? We will be gathering in the courtyard of Camp Dragonhead and afterwards spreading out for the events. How do I enter? Simply show up the day of the event you wish to sign up for and join the contestants’ line in the courtyard of Camp Dragonhead. A Dufresne Bellworks representative will be going down the line taking names and adding you to the contestants’ list. When you are officially registered, you will be given a carnation. We encourage you to pick someone out of the crowd during the competition to crown as your Prince(ss) of Love and Beauty and pass them this carnation as your personal favor! We will be closing registration 10 minutes prior to the start of the event, so if you are not in line by then, you will not be able to compete. If you do not have a carnation in your inventory, you probably haven’t been recorded, so best to double check with us ahead of time! What do I get if I win? Champion of the Blade (melee): Falconer’s Shirt & Stuffed Mandragora Queen Champion of the Wand (wizard): High House Justaucorps OR High House Bustle Champion of the Range (marksman): Clockwork Barrow & Alpine Supper Set Champion of the Lance (joust): Orthodox Barding & High House Supper Set Grand Champion: “Heroes” Orchestrion Roll Plus the love, adoration, and envy of your peers, as well as excessive bragging rights! Is there any event etiquette I need to follow? If there is a large turnout, please keep all emotes and dialogue to /emote and /say, or to party/FC chat, to help cut down on potential spam. Please do not use /yell, as this will be utilized by event organizers, officials, arbiters, and heralds in order to communicate with everyone. ICly this event will be attended by both knights and inquisitors, so it’s probably not a good idea to cause any IC trouble or to bring any forbidden artes with you! Please note that, as we cannot and will not monitor attendees’ RP, it is best to consider this event as happening post-patch 3.3. If you are wary of spoilers, it’s probably not a good idea to attend! Rules of the Tournament: This is the basic TLDR version; a more detailed description is forthcoming Melee/Champion of the Blade: -Contestants will be paired off to duel -Contestants will /roll for initiative. Higher roll goes first. -Contestants will take turns making attack and defense rolls. The attacker will roll to attack, and the defender will roll to defend. If the defense roll is higher, the attack misses, and the defender gets to attack instead. This will continue until one of the contestants has scored 3 hits against their opponent, exactly like the Grindstone. -Aether-users such as dragoons and paladins MAY use aether in their attacks (ex: circle of scorn, dragonfire dive), so long as it is linked to a melee attack. No pot-shots with Fire II from 20 yalms. -Dark Knights may channel aether so long as they are not using actual dark magic, as dark magic is currently outlawed in Ishgard. Use of dark magic will result in an immediate disqualification. -Contestants may wound each other but not mortally. -You may not, may not, MAY NOT kill an opponent under any circumstances, even if they’ve given you permission. Doing so will result in immediate removal from the tournament and banning from future tournaments. -Your character must speak with an Arbiter or an Arbiter’s Assistant to be healed in full before moving on to the next round of battle. Wounded contestants will not compete under any circumstances. Magic/Champion of the Wand: -Contestants will be shielded by a modified Protect spell. This spell will weather three hits and will absorb the worst of the magical damage, but not all of it. You can still get hurt just like the other tournament fighters! -Contestants will be paired off to duel -Contestants will /roll for initiative. Higher roll goes first. -Contestants will take turns making attack and defense rolls. The attacker will roll to attack, and the defender will roll to defend. If the defense roll is higher, the attack misses, and the defender gets to attack instead. This will continue until one of the contestants has scored 3 hits against their opponent, exactly like the Runestone. -Summoner-types who fight using a summon will share a health pool with their summon. If an attack kills the summon, it will count as a point scored against the summoner. This is only nullified if the summoner recalls/banishes the summon before it can be killed. -Because the dark artes are outlawed in Ishgard, dark/void magic and anything akin to it is forbidden. Using forbidden magic will resort in immediate disqualification. Marksmanship/Champion of the Mark: -Shooters will line up and face imaginary targets -Each shooter will have 3 /rolls and 3 emote posts. (Posting for each shot is optional; you are welcome to combine them into one emote). Any roll under 100 is an automatic miss. Any roll of 999 is a bullseye and instant progression into the next round. -The three rolls will be tallied into a score for that round. Those with the highest rolls will progress to the next round. The lowest rolls will be removed from the lineup 2 at a time. This will continue until there are only 2 shooters left. -The final 2 shooters will square off against the same target, and whoever gets the highest score wins. If by some miracle both shooters score a bullseye, they will have to roll again. -You may not shoot anything other than the targets for any reason whatsoever. Even brandishing a bow or firearm at an event attendee will result in immediate disqualification. -Turrets and other such automata are not permitted. Jousting/Champion of the Lance: -Contestants must ride a chocobo and ONLY a chocobo. Other mounts, such as coeurls, fenrirs, and magitek reapers are not allowed. -Chocobos must be barded for their own safety. Riders must be armored for their own safety. -Opponents will be paired off and will run at each other from opposite ends of the Gates of Judgement. When they meet in the middle, they will pause to /roll before continuing to the other side. -A roll between 1-300 is a miss -A roll between 301-700 is a lance break -A roll between 701-900 is a staggering lance break. If one jouster rolls this, it will stagger their opponent and render their attack null if it would have otherwise hit. -A roll of 901+ is a de-horse and instant victory. -In the event that both jousters score the same category of rolls (ex: both roll a stagger), the one with the higher roll will be considered the one who hit first, and will get the point for that round. -The rider who gets 3 lance breaks FIRST, or a de-horse, wins and advances to the next round. -You may wound your opponent but not their chocobo. Wounding a chocobo will result in instant disqualification. -You may not, may not, MAY NOT kill an opponent or their chocobo under any circumstances, even if they’ve given you permission. Doing so will result in immediate removal from the tournament and banning from future tournaments. -Your character must speak with an Arbiter or an Arbiter’s Assistant to be healed in full before moving on to the next round of battle. Wounded contestants will not compete under any circumstances. If you have any questions or comments, or would like to volunteer, please contact Eliane Dufresne or Gwenneth Gilrouis (Reima Awen) for more details. We hope to see you there!
24. It's been a busy and exciting month for the Bellworks! You could say we're moving...full steam ahead. B) As our family grows, we're taking time to relax between our adventures as well. And to this end we'd like to welcome our newest member, Mali Lutka! Lutka has signed on as a sapper and explosives expert...but only in the most professional of manners. We run a tight ship here, after all. On that note, we recently finished and launched our first FC airship! This airship opens up a variety of IC possibilities for us, and we'll be using it for ample excuses to travel and adventure in the near future! Diadem trips are also in the works for those interested. Our weekly Dragon Punch Nights continue to provide both progression and hilarity. Many of us are at last seeing content we never thought we'd see! We made our first stab at Thordan EX just last night and made incredible progress. Thank you to all the friends who have helped our nub asses out along the way! <3 There's plenty more to come in the future, of course, both IC and OOC. Plots are brewing. Oh, yes. Yes they are...
25. We're definitely down for that! Usually there's at least one of us loitering around Ishgard in the evenings. We could always schedule something too.
