  1. As another relatively new player to the game, I totally sympathize with having an empty friend's list. I've been lucky enough to meet some great players since then, so I want to extend the same opportunity to others too. My young Paladin-in-training, Roen Deneith, is in Ul'dah mostly, but has made some trips to Gridania for additional training. I am open to random meetings or even coming up with a past encounter for between them. Just shoot me a tell in game or a PM!
  2. I soooo know what you mean! My character went to Costa Del Sol for the first time yesterday, and all I did was to roleplay with the environment for a few moments. Wait till you discover that region! :bouncy: And as a fellow WoWer who was there from the beginning, I did not roleplay there at all. I was all about Raiding and Endgame content. Here, in FFXIV, my leveling has skidded to a halt because I am drawn to the character's story. I can't wait to tell it, and to see others unfold around me. So I understand your excitement. I'd be delighted to accidentally happen upon your story someday. If you ever see my young gladiator online, feel free to say hello! She's a bit of a quiet sort, but not unfriendly in the least. And I am always up for pick up RP.

    Hello all!

Welcome! I just wanted to reassure you, from a newcomer here myself, that people I have ran into so far are so welcoming and friendly. It's great. And I certainly want to extend that to other newcomers as well. Especially brand new roleplayers! Come discover the fun! I am just starting to get to meet and know other players here in Balmung. My young gladiator paladin-in-training is relatively new to the area as well. So feel free to say hello, I am happy to pick up RP on the spot.
  4. As do I. There is so much interesting lore behind the 5th City State and so little we know. I was considering trying to organize some Ala Mhigo Linkshell to keep refugees and a generation of Ala Mhigans born outside our lands to preserve our culture and history. Gestahl only being 5 when the great Hyuran Migration happened, he doesn't remember much about his home. Yeah, I really hope Ala Mhigo is covered in the future storyline of ARR. I wouldn't be surprised if liberating it from the Empire was the main focus of the games first expansion (which is apparently already being worked on). I've been toying with the idea recently of an Ala Mhigan/resistance fighters LS. Would any of you be interested? Oh I would be! Not that my character is an active Ala Mhigan resistance member, but her mother was! Roen may want to seek out those who share her mother's heritage sometime.
  5. Ha! I think that's an awesome reason for your own FC!! I would like to help out but I am guessing you do not need help of a lowbie.
  6. Gray, I think this thread just shows you there are a lot of people looking for IC connections! Heck, I am going to seek some people out that have replied on your thread.
  7. My gladiator, Roen, is looking for employment! She will certainly apply for a job as a hired guard. But her attempts at trying to advert her gaze from scantily clad activities is pretty obvious during the interview as well as her awkwardness about the subject of brothers in general. But she seems earnest in stating that she will do her job to the best of her ability. Let me know if they would be willing to hire her part time! (certainly turning her away stating she was too "green" would not insult me either)
  8. Gray, I can definitely emphathize. Just hanging out at a tavern/public locale waiting for that great interaction or spark of RP chemistry and coming up empty night after night can be frustrating and tiresome. And certainly not what usually motivates some people to keep trying every day. I know that for a character to continue to be motivating and creatively inspiring, they must make connections, whether it be forging lasting friendships, or even enemies. As in life, having people who you can count on, may they be friends, family or even employers, drives you. And it is the same in roleplay, your character becomes more defined and interesting, from the alliances and enemies they make. I don't know that our playing styles match, but you certainly seem open to possibilities, and I am a pretty malleable player as well. I am reaching out on the boards and applying to FCs to try and make those RP connections. I am willing to take a chance here as well. If you don't try, how will you know? Let me know if you want to meet up sometime or PM me if you want to talk more about what you have in mind.
  9. Thank you for a warm welcome, Faye! Before I broke my lurking status, I did peruse the linkshell forums for Balmung, and decided to apply to a Free Company that seemed to fit my character's current situation the best. But really, I would like to meet all the FCs and roleplayers in Balmung, more I read this forum! So many interesting and friendly folks around here. So hopefully, we will cross paths too soon, Faye. I certainly would like to meet you in character. And thank you for all the info, Olofantur! I really do appreicate more resourses to draw from, and a helpful pointing finger to lead me to the right places. I had already read through some of those sites already, looking through the forums, but there is a lot to read! And just last night, another very helpful roleplayer (thanks Denn!) pointed me to the gamerscape.com. So I will be drinking that in today, in hopes of etching out more details to my character and sharpening my roleplay!
  10. Okay, usually when I join a forum/community, I've had the habit of lurking for the longest time, reading everything I can possibly read so that when I do jump in I sound like I know what I am talking about. Then I've lurked for so long, that I talk myself from getting actively involved. I know, it's pretty silly. So today is the day I break that trend, because while I've been drinking up the lore wherever I can find it, I don't think I will ever know enough where I will comfortable in this new world that I have just discovered. And I am now impatient to get into the fun of roleplaying with all the posts I'm reading here. Greetings fellow roleplayers! I am new to Balmung and very new to Final Fantasy. I recently purchased the game because after a year of being away from the world of MMORPG, I grew restless and wanted to try a new experience. And while I never played the original incarnation of FFXIV, I've always been a fan of Final Fantasy since the days of Cloud and Aeris! And then I found this forum, and I was hooked! I played World of Warcraft for seven years, so I am no stranger to the world of MMORPG. But in my years of playing and raiding on WoW, I've never found a community to roleplay with, despite the fact that I was on a roleplay server. Now that I am returning to try a new MMORPG, I am hoping to start on a better footing by rolling a character on a server that seems to have an active and friendly roleplaying community. And I am breaking my usual behavior of lurking for the longest time, and just jumping in with both feet! My character level is still pretty low, I am eager to get my first chocobo this weekend. But I will still partake in any roleplaying opportunities that may come my way, if you will have a wee gladiator around. And despite my best efforts, after reading pages after pages of lore, I still don't think I am really well versed in the Final Fantasy lore. Maybe I am just trying to remember too much all at once. So if I do encounter you in character and I mess up a few details, please feel free to correct me! My character, Roen, has reasons to get things mixed up anyways. But she does not mean to. Anyways, I look forward to seeing some of you around in game!
  11. I think this is a fantastic idea! My poor gladiator is too poor however, to attend as a guest, but I will contact you for a possible job as a hired hand!
  12. I am new to this server (and roleplaying on FFXIV), and while catching up on lore, I too became very fascinated with the Garlean lore! There is definitely a connection to Garleans in one of my character's history, and I would love to create an Garlean alt to flesh this out even more. And any other Garlean history I can help fill out for people, I am game! Just don't expect my characters to be high level, my sole character is barely going to hit level 20 soon. I am still fairly new to this game. Feel free to PM me if I can help! I will poke those I've seen here on the thread next time I am on.
  13. My paladin-in-training (she's a wee learning gladiator right now) would like to make your acquaintance someday! I as a player, and hence my character Roen, is new to this game and server, so she can use some friends! She also has some secrets in her closet that likely if they befriend each other, Siha may "accidentally" be able to see someday. Maybe they can run into each other sometime.

    Story-Arc Idea

I agree with Naunet. This idea sounds diabolical!
  15. Storytelling, overarching storylines... I'm excited just from the description! Hello, I am quite new to the world of Final Fantasy, and currently am just running around solo learning the game and the lore. I'll admit, the New Beginnings movie trailer for the game hooked me. Being that I am new to this game, my current highest is wee level 15. I am not a hard core gamer and I don't expect to reach 50 in a week. But I enjoy roleplay and storytelling. So how do I get started? Where do I find the Consortium? I will venture to Golden Bazaar... when I figure out where it is. (I have not come across it in my quests but I understand I will be able to venture out soon on an airship!) Brynn
