Hello again! Anyway, it was stated that if the topic could be simmered down and politely taken into context, then it could in essence thrive. I didn't mean to upset anyone out there with the wrong words (people that are upset know what they are). So first off, I am sorry if what I said sounded condescending or otherwise insulting. I appreciate all the effort and time FC's and LS's place into their events. What had happened, which is why I posted here, was that I had been contacted by several players (I will not use names out of respect) that wanted to know what they lacked to hold large events. The word 'lacked' meaning 'little showing' for certain events. I referred them here and some of these people's events have taken off... and some sadly have not. When I thought about what was lacking for these players (and here is where my opinion got smashed), it was that they were offering the same kind of RP that was widely available already in the Quicksand. Is there anything wrong with tavern RP? No. Is there anything wrong with holding FC events that are LIKE a tavern? No. What I think was missing was advertising. There is nothing wrong with events being small and closed off. I was referring to players that had asked me and I referred to holding events OUTSIDE of the neighborhoods to get far more attention. That being said, it's an opinion and that's it. I'm not right in this and I am not discrediting anyone for trying to bring RP, in ANY format, to Balmung. I praise that. At my events, we don't actually sell things (the game has 4 pumpkin items: Pumpkin Orange Dye, Pumpkin Cookie, Jack-o-lantern and Ogre pumpkin) which sucks... but playing a peddler with actual IC items is fun! On my own, I try to give away goods for free (most of the time) and sometimes I get gil from it. I think items such as potions, elixirs, ect. IC would be awesome to sell. I say go for it mate! I'd be all for meeting and congregating with another peddler!

Exactly mate! I was speaking on behalf of people curious as to why... I've said it a lot in here already. I don't think repeating it again and again will do anything lol I agree with you though!

The bottom line is I am not condemning FC RP. I was wondering why players that hold events in a neighborhood don't have as many visitors. Is it the advertising? Is it because people feel that tavern RP is more random at the Quicksand and therefore easier to gain? I don't know what it is, but I just want us all to get together and do what works best. RP is RP and that is always fun. That's the point. Where all the insults come into play with this all? I'd say a few things are linked to that but that isn't the issue. I just want players to all have a chance to have their concepts met.

I play that too! Yet I play in other places, like Gridania and Limsa Lominsa, places that are easily accessible to lower levels of course.

I agree mate! And again, I said 'with all due respect', ect. The reason I made this post was because I've had private messages here and on the game from players wanting to know how they can get their LS or FC off of the ground. I've pointed them to the forums but for whatever reason, they can't get the gist of it. I am not condemning FC role-play. I am mentioning that I have seen a lot of people with brilliant concepts wondering why no one has visited their establishment. A perfect example is Faye Covington's awesome event! I came by and was saddened that there weren't many there. It made me wonder if it was because of advertising, perhaps they meant for it to be restricted, or that players tend to shift to the housing for RP as long as it's pertinent to who they know rather than: 'an event is going on! Let's go!' I've seen more success using the actual areas outside the housing, is what I meant. I wanted to know how and why this is an issue if a majority stick to FC/tavern RP. Do people simply not have the time to make it to the event, ect. I'm really curious because I try to come to every event being held.

First off, I said with 'all due respect' and 'there was nothing wrong with it in general'. The basis was that RP be pushed outwards. You for whatever reason, see it as an attempt to hop off and be unethical. Perhaps you should look elsewhere before you feel like 'smashing your computer' over a character concept? Indeed so! As I said, there is nothing wrong with it in general, but I have a feeling that in due time, it may close up more and more until the only role-play found is in FC's or LS's. There are a lot of players on Balmung who are NOT role-players. Know what I do? I role-play with them anyway. I don't care if they acknowledge it or not. Why close off the atmosphere for potential RP on the basis of not trying? Going off to do a quest? Try saying 'hello' to someone on the road! I've made numerous friends this way! There is no right or wrong, only preferences. I wanted to see whether we all could push for RP outside of Ul'Dah for the sake of getting people to feel inspired again. SO many people have complained about having 'concepts' that they can't implement because 'there aren't RPers there'. I say bollocks (anyone can make anything work). I just wish I could see more Gridanian and Limsa Lominsa RP, so I'm going to be trying to push it in the coming months! That's all I can do for the community: offer options. Without attendance, it wouldn't be much of an event and it's always thrilling to see Balmung's role-playing community still very active. However, recent dealings with several other linkshells and free companies that are in a partnership with the Piquant Pumpkin have me a bit concerned in the direction of role-play. Most events that I see are carried out now in the housing sectors of the game. While there is generally nothing wrong with this, I do have to state that I have personally visited several of these events and they are, with all due respect, not very active events. Yet players keep pushing to have role-players visit their establishments so they can engage in trite, monotonous tavern role-play which is already vastly implemented in the Quicksand. [align=left]Again, there is nothing wrong with this type of role-play, but I fear the direction this is going. Eventually, players may only hold events strictly for their members, closing out any who are otherwise not associated with their FC or LS. The question being posed is why have so many events been closed to housing/tavern shenanigans and why has the general area of role-play shifted strictly to Ul'Dah as a majority? While certainly there are groups out there that play in other places, but most stick with the Quicksand, as stated.[/align] [align=left]I remember a time where I could go to Gradania and I'd find random roleplay; Limsa Lominsa was also keen to this. Now, the essence of random RP has fallen to individual players instead of what used to be a thriving community. What I am stating here, is that each of us take the time to remember that outside of all the hunts and raids, there are new players coming to Balmung everyday. Every 13th of the month, we host "Spooky the 13th" where there are competitions, news going around Hydalen, prizes, food and drinks and a chance to congregate in far off places that aren't always a tavern! Pumpkin-Alchemist anyone? Think of it! The class would work like Beastmaster from FF XI. You'd have pumpkin minions fighting for you and you get to manage the fray of everything! Plus you get delightful pumpkin relic armour! As a pumpkin-alchemist, your healing would come from one of the pumpkin minions who sprays you with pumpkin beer! The possibilities are endless... but the greatest thing about it would be the Limit: Pumpkinheart You summon a giant jack-o'-lantern that your character rides on! For a select period of time, you are given complete control of this minion. It shoots fireballs from it's eyes which does decent damage and puts a DOT on your enemy. Walking into an enemy will puncture them with a terrible poison from the Jack-o'-Lantern's tentacles. It emits a malodorous stench much like a Malboro that causes various status effects.... And it's final action is that it explodes, spraying a large AOE blast of pumpkinseeds that hit for 9999 points of damage! You can't get any better! [align=center]:tonberry: [/align]

I encourage watching people's RP. Sometimes, a quiet mouth and a fully functioning set of ears is all you need to get involved with an event, someone's personal RP or otherwise extend a new bridge towards other types of scenarios. I personally like to bring pumpkins towards the attention of the community because who DOESN'T need to be loving pumpkins year round? I love jumping into the fray of a serious conversation, only to suddenly have Gus toss up: "Salutations sir? This conversation seems dry; care t'wet y'larynx with t'greatest ale in ALL Hydalen?" It gets me excited just thinking about it! Goodness, it should get everyone excited! Final Fantasy XIV is a terrific game. ... I also had a few pumpkin beers so I'm being overly cheery writing this.
