Sounds like you've been around the wrong crowd! Come sit in the pumpkin patch with me!

This is very, very crude. Role play is meant to be fun and if a player wants to go above and beyond to provide money to solidify their wealth, that is one thing- but to force that onto a player is bad form. It sounds like you're on the right track to recovery. Quality over quantity indeed. We all want to get along with each player we encounter but in the end, heads will butt (IC at least), but the moment the lines are crossed into the OOC realm it becomes fairly evident how disassociated the player is in terms of communication- which is linked to real life issues. People want to get lost into the glamour of a story... so much that everything has to become perfect. Don't allow someone's disillusion persuade you from continuing. If you ever want to role play, hit me up here or in game! You seem to have a good head on your shoulders.

There are three things I generally dislike in role play: 1) Metagaming 2) Inability to separate OOC from IC 3) Mary Sues When it comes to metagaming, I refer to players who just happen to know your character's name having never met them simply because they see the tag over one's head. Then there are the worst kinds of metagamers... the ones that have read your wiki or something based on the history of your character and they somehow now know these things in character as well. That's just bad form altogether. To those that can't separate OOC from IC, they tend to take role play and set it back quite a bit for the sake of drama and bickering. What's to gain from it, really? If there is a character you dislike, don't hate the player over their character being a certain way. Negative or arrogant characters can help to develop anyone's character in a story arc just the same as anyone. The worst kind are players who role play simply to ERP and feel threatened each time you talk to a guy or girl that they have mentally set their sights on. Why hate a character for simply interacting? It's nuts. Finally: Mary Sues. All you need to do is think of Kirito in Sword Art Online. He's the perfect Mary Sue that can pull a deus ex anytime something is going against him. Characters that have weaknesses are easily the most charming in my opinion. Who wants to be perfect after all? Where is the fun in that? Also, Creed sucks. The lead singer sounds like he has a stick up his ass. As for what I like? Pumpkins.

I honestly would think it'd be fun to do without letting them know what is inside the drink. It's like kind of DnD plot twist where DM decides to do something to screw with your mind. But not so dubious dealer are we? Nope, not very dubious. Abrasive perhaps.... Again, even in regards to D&D, people are very fickle about their characters when it comes to roleplaying over an MMO or a format that does not have players communicating with one another in person. As such, doing such a thing would probably upset a player about performing such actions without permission. It's silly, but it's just common courtesy to ask before forcing a scenario onto someone, even if it's comical.

No, no, no (though that would be hilarious)! If Gus did that, IC, it would be a form of metagaming since I've not alerted or contacted the player of what Gus is up to. In all sincerity, Gus aims to offer the most delicious foods, desserts and drinks without harming anyone. He's a legitimate, if eccentric, pumpkin dealer.

Again, interesting opinions from everyone! What I find curious though is that I know quite a few role players who have used the fantasia potion as a pivotal role in their story. Given all the silly things in the game, I don't see any issue with it but I think that the concoction would be expensive and or rare, as many have said. Still, it's just a thought. Potions are fun
-
I agree with this. I know there were some parts in the game where a quest has the player tossing concoctions to wash off an aetheric disguise. Of course this is not a potion. However because it can change the sex and appearance and or race of a host, the idea of a potion that alters an appearance does not seem too far-fetched.

Interesting opinions! I personally feel fantasia wouldn't just up and be a fixer upper either. To Gus, it's theoretical when it comes to potions and even then he hasn't perfected the fantasia. That being said, is it just a glamour? Because if that is the case, then the male who became a female is still a male. It's a bit of a controversial topic I suppose. I personally would rather role play a long healing period than being fixed and up and at it again. Gus mentioned in character about the possibility of fantasia mending broken bones when someone's arm was broken during a spar he was watching. The injured character chose not to take Gus's concoction for obvious reasons lol  Perhaps Square may release more lore on the potion. Until then, it's up in the air!

Gus sells pumpkin flavored potions on top of all his goods already! They taste better.

This is just a curious quirk I was thinking about. The Fantasia potion - is it considered lore appropriate and if it is, just what is it possible of doing other than what we already know? I was thinking about it on a medicinal level. You can use magic to heal wounds, but fixing a broken bone or someone blind (extreme healing in general) would cost a lot of energy and concentration I'd imagine. Here's the deal: what if Fantasia potions could fix these problems at the risk of it causing alterations? Say one has a broken arm or is blind, like I said earlier; now you drink a fantasia... The idea is one must remember themselves a certain way. That is apparently how the potion works... so if someone slept with the idea that they can see again or have a arm that isn't broken... does it mend? It's just an idea but I love the fantasia concept in terms of role play because one can use glamours to throw people off. There are many forms of deception shown in the game... would fantasia also be considered one? Opinions people! I'd love to hear them.

Technically, you can make anything work so long as you don't go over the top and have phenomenal cosmic powers. I have to agree though, a character sleeping in the Lost City, while original, would in many ways come off like a mary sue for several reasons: 1) Being that she's a white mage, amnesia or not, she is going to have a pivotal role in the world's existence since the white mage's are all but gone. 2) When you have to ask: 'how did she seal herself', 'why did she seal herself', 'why did she suffer amnesia', ect. and you are the creator of the story asking for confirmation, you're basically tossing a rock into the dark hoping it won't hit something. Again, it just sounds like she's way too important. I could go on and on, but I advise that if you polish the story and play it carefully you might make this work. Telling people on the forums or OOCly in the game will kind of destroy the magic and mystery of the character. It never hurts to just make the character, role play it out at an early level and see what others think of it based on interactions. If there are a lot of negative comments, chances are it kind of won't be accepted. If you can get away with it, then you clearly played it carefully and ought to continue. In the end, it's up to you and how to tell the story. I personally think it's way too over the top but that doesn't mean you can't make it work. Surprise us all. -
In my personal opinion, I don't believe anyone ought to take into account their job as how experienced they are in terms of role play. Certainly at higher levels you get flashier looking armor and weapons but this should not be a defining characteristic. Also, in game mechanics should not apply to how your character performs. I've seen many role players forego that (and they are allowed to) and they cast a spell of silence onto other players without bothering to 'attempt' casting the spell on their host. Some people are acceptable to this but I feel it's a form of metagaming in itself. When it comes to actions/jobs, one should exercise their own creativity. After all, most jobs based off lore are mary sue, single player story lines (other than Paladin which is common). None of us possess the Echo (no offense to those that do), none of us are warriors of light. If you want to take into account the weapon types, as some have stated before - just state you use a lance/sword/staff, ect. rather than being a 'dragoon' or 'warrior'. It's my opinion in the end, but I find it the easiest and most flexible manner to incorporate this into role play rather than try and fit the constricting lore into the character's back story.

I thought I heard that the guild for learning to be a rogue/ninja was kind of conspicuous in its operation? Therefore, if it's say... a hunting clan's headquarters on paper - but they are training thieves, then so long as it's kept under wraps, it can officially exist. And the first rule I think for usually any person who steals is to not promote that they are a thief. Most of the time, heroes in this role call themselves 'treasure hunter' or even 'burglar' like Bilbo. Conan is also a prime example, but he was so awesome that he could go around calling himself the king of thieves. I dunno. I think anyone has the capacity to be a hero, especially thieves. Just be quiet about what you do.

I agree with Berrod! There is nothing wrong with playing a character as they are intended to be be. I have the same issues at times with Gus being so abrasive and demanding in the name of delicious sweets and pumpkins. Some will love it, some will hate it. You can't pander to both sides because in the end someone will have a problem with it. Also, Otto: I know that your character was described by you (in an earlier post) as someone that CAN use a lance but does not. That was what I meant in terms of knowing weaponry- in routines and exercises, not actual combat experience. It still fits in, but the beauty of a character that is your own is that it is YOURS to do with as you please! Have fun!
