    Meep~

    Welcome to the site!
  2. I approve of this exercise. What kind of stories has your character gotten into? Rhio's gone through a lot since the relaunch. She started out confused, lost, and low on resources, hoping mostly to reconnect with people she considered friends. As it turned out, two of those people wound up rejecting her rather thoroughly, which stung, but she's started to rebuild her life despite that fact. In fact, she's probably in a better place now than she was at the end of the prior version. The usual set of love stories, betrayals, alliances, deceptions, and occasional pleasant conversation. How has your character changed since the game relaunch? She's gone from having more or less nothing to having quite a bit - an apartment in Gridania, a girlfriend, a small circle of friends, and the prospect of more in the future. She's also nursing quite a bit of newfound bitterness at those she'd expected to reconnect with, although that's not really a change; she's always had a list of enemies. How is your character adjusting to the five years? For her part, Rhio is largely doing her best to ignore it. Nel, her lifeline at the transition, treated her mostly as an old friend that had been away for quite some time, and that's how she's treated others that didn't jump forward. There's nothing she can do about it, the world moved on without her, and all she can do is try to fit herself back into the world. What has been your favorite/most shocking RP moment so far? When Rhio's current girlfriend asked her out on a date. It was so bracingly unexpected, especially considering how often she finds herself pining after someone rather than being pined for. It was unexpected, it was surprising, it worked perfectly, it allowed for a great deal of character development. What was the most surprising thing you found out about your character? How Rhio makes most of her money. What relationships did your character build? Lots. Rhio's developed a longtime (if distant) friendship into a romance while at the same time losing two longtime friends. She's also found herself at least two very close friend, with one of them hoping for more and the other quite happy to simply be her confidante. She's also engaged in her usual plethora of backroom deals and built at least a small reputation for that, along with making at least one new enemy. What are you looking most forward to seeing in the future? I'd really like Rhio to resolve matters with at least one of her outstanding enemies; I doubt it'll happen, but it would be nice. (Note that "resolve" does not necessarily mean "patch things up.") I'd like her to develop her current relationship and start getting a better sense of where she fits in Eorzea as a whole. She's always been a wanderer, and it's time for her to start putting down firmer roots.
  3. Fastest way to get more Philosophy is via repeated Castrum Meridianum runs; most take about half an hour and net you 100 tomestones. Prices on equipment vary from about 375 for accessories to 1375 for armor that covers two slots (cowls, for instance). Mythology is awarded from HM Primals and Amdapor Keep; however, the Keep is much faster at 40 per run (compared to 4 from a Primal fight). Those can be exchanged for artifact +1 gear and better accessories and cap out at 300 per week.
  4. I feel no rage. I've been waiting for nine months for this day to come. A few hours here and there is nothing.

    Hi!!!

Darn skippy they do. New England represent! Welcome to the site!
  6. Today was kind of a wash. But for the rest of the week? [video=youtube] I'll find something to occupy my time.
  7. Echoing what some others have said: Option 1: Not every miqo'te follows tradition closely. In Rhio's case, her family line is more Ul'dahn than anything, as reflected by both naming and their complete non-observance of prior traditions. There's nothing to say that a given miqo'te can't come from a more liberal family, or perhaps a family that's broken off entirely from its tribe. Option 2: There's also nothing stopping someone from being fascinated by a craft later in life. Perhaps your miqo'te did grow up with the idea that armor is light and flexible, with one-handed swords meant as close-quarter weapons... until the first time she happened to catch a gladiatorial fight. I imagine seeing men and women in heavy armor moving like water despite that armor would be quite eye-opening, as if you'd spent all of your life on a three-string violin and then learned that there's usually a fourth string. Option 3: If neither of the above apply, there's always obligation. Maybe it's the feeling of owing something to someone else (possibly a paladin) or maybe it's just a matter of not having the real option to avoid heavier armor. Rhio has openly stated in the past that she's more comfortable with wielding two blades than the sword-and-shield style... but Eorzean smiths cast everything weighted for sword-and-shield, so she's had to adapt. Sometimes availability dictates action.
  8. Welcome back! Rhio might be able to best Pepper on the field of battle, but she cannot defeat... her rap.
  9. Rhio will receive some minor tweaks - the translation seems to have made her skin too light, for example, and she needs a new hairstyle. However, she'll still be the same Rhio.
  10. Professional brain: Hmm. Lots to analyze here. Adjustments could have some far-reaching impacts, obviously... alternate class leveling will be easier, that's nice... oh, this is all going to make for a good column. I wonder if... hmm, better take notes. Personal brain: HOW IS IT NOT FRIDAY NOW
  11. I'll be there no matter what time it is. I will be all over this.
  12. I prefer to think that if you spend enough of your free time trying to put yourself in the mindset of another person, it's really hard to close yourself back off and assume that you have a monopoly on the right way to think or feel.
  13. I think a lot of that is a simple matter of visibility and the challenges involved. It's a lot easier to see a person who identifies as homosexual as normal by experience, while transgender folks aren't as easily recognized. That, and a lot of people growing up now have had the idea that homosexuality is normal drilled into their heads, but a similar movement has yet to take place for trans folk. Me, I do what I can. I'm a straight white cis male, the best I can do is be aware and be supportive and inclusive and try to raise awareness. If I have the free money after my next paycheck, I'll be sure to kick some your way.
  14. I will say that Nel consulted several people on this one and got feedback from people on every side of the fence. The goal was not to present a "correct" option, just to summarize everything in one place to minimize the need for further back-and-forth.
  15. That's it, I can no longer hold in my bias. Everyone should be rolling a new character on Balthier. Don't start in with that "there's no server by that name" garbage. My bias is correct and you should all conform.
