I like all the new keyboard shortcuts: /teleport, /macros, etc. I hope they add /chatmode (/cm) like from FFXI where you can choose the default output for your text (party, ls1, ls6, say, etc.) I know it can be done with the mouse toggle but I've always preferred to use the keyboard almost exclusively, particularly when RPing. The rest of the updates look great though!! Friday can't get here soon enough~ :bouncy:

She looks lovely!! Excellent job Kaoru!

As I've been re-assembling my wiki it occurred to me that with the miqo'te RPers being about in abundance and the knowledge that their sense of smell is somewhat heightened, I thought to add a small blurb about Eva's perfume and usual scent. I've had to describe this in the past during 1.0 and thought it might be a helpful thing for other RPers to think about. Then I considered that it might be useful to have all that info in one place, and so I decided to scrape together this thread. While it makes sense that any character's scent is going to be situational based on environment, perspiration, etc., this would be more of a neutral thing based on things like grooming, smoking, working with chemicals, flowers, or what-have-you. So what do y'all smell like?? For Eva: Her usual perfume carries the sweet scent of lilac dashed with a trace of sun lemon.

Okay that was more than one item. Let's just say the teacup (but with a wedge of lemon over the rim~)

I work full-time but have a lot of flexibility with my schedule and sometimes have the option of working from home - which is helpful for a number of reasons. I think it boils down to time management and just making the most of what free time you do have. Rewarding though the game can be, in most cases it won't pay the bills. At the same time, it's a good philosophy to "work to live" rather than "live to work". Juggling game time (which itself can be subdivided sometimes into RP time, progression time, etc.) along with work, sleep, exercise, family, social life, etc... It can be a real challenge sometimes and it's mega-important not to neglect those people and things you care about as well.

Welcome welcome! I'm stoked about the unicorn mounts as well. And your art work is so beautiful!!!

Anyone else remember this from years and years ago? I don't even recall if it was in any way official or not but got a lot of folks hyped up about even the possibilities~ For myself, I'm happy now that we have White Mage, but... Flayer (or any sort of whip-wielding class) would be right in my wheelhouse~
-
The easiest answer to this is... wherever you want him to have been!! You might not get much of a grasp on this until after you start playing and working through some backstory for yourself or figure out a bit more about the lore, but you probably won't even have to answer the question for some time. Even those of us from 1.0 had to kind of ask ourselves these questions too when we started out, and figure things out for ourselves. The only thing I really knew about Eva's past coming into XIV was that she had lost a lover in the fairly recent past. Everything else about that fellow, and her family, and her heritage/ancestry... all built up kind of as we went along. I don't know if that helps or not, because some people like to have everything figured out before they start, but there's plenty of time to make things up as you go too!

Oh I won't be able to attend on the 31st. My cousin is getting married and we're going to be out of town at a RL gala~ I hope everyone has a lot of fun though!!

Eva was 32 when she went into the time rift. It will now be 37 years after her birth year. She knows she missed her nameday (which was not long after Calamity) and so considers herself to be 33 because she feels "weird" having been 32 for so long. The whole thing is weird though. :dazed:

What is you're favoite Final Fantasy Song?
Eva replied to Kellen whitewolf's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Favorite: uoeJ4wpwN5g Very close runner up: TuvxcpQ-veg I cannot adequately express in words how much nostalgia this second one brings me - sort of a fond memory underscored by a trace of sadness. I probably logged more hours in that place than anyone else on any server. -
Five o'clock shadow would be hawt!! I would love if the lady elezen had a good single ponytail option for long hair. Ideally I'd like more long-hair options without bangs since I like that 'swept-back' look. If they could have one that incorporates a small braid on one side that would be amazing, but that's kind of crazy specific. lol The one long hair option they've showed to be forthcoming for lady elezens is nice, but wouldn't fit my character very well. Want to see more swept-back hairstyles~ And five o'clock shadows! :surprise:

Offtopic a bit, but I felt compelled to point out that Miqo'te have a heightened sense of smell, but normal hearing. Some elezen (duskwight specifically) have sharp hearing. These are good good situations to ponder over for someone who might actually use this. It would certainly add complication.

This is one of those places where I deviate a bit from what is established to be the lore. Eva is a lot like that little girl and I intentionally don't make clear where the source of her healing comes from. She is very much a white mage though, and she is very weak with elemental affinity (she's decent with water, but has little to no command of any of the other elements to speak of). This predates the jobs though before we had lore to explain much of this and I just kind of kept rolling with that and I can't imagine why anyone would give me a hard time for it. While she is a bookworm, she has never understood magic in any capacity, but has tried to seek out the wisdom of those more knowledgable at several points in the recent past few years (prior to the Calamity). As I have described it, she was born with this talent - a 'Wilder' of sorts, if you are familiar with the Robert Jordan books. For her own part, the more she tries to understand what she is doing, the less adept she is with it. When she stops trying to make sense of things and lets her feelings and instinct take over, she does fine. So she doesn't understand what the hell she's doing, and doesn't really need to. I guess she views it as akin to someone not needing to know all the specific inner workings of a car in order to be able to drive herself to work. Most mage-type characters I have interacted with (from 1.0 anyway) do study, or read, or otherwise learn throughout the course of their life how to perform these feats rather than are born with a sort of talent. In the end it's kind of the same thing. But the lore as we have it now doesn't support this (but doesn't really reject the possibility either) so that's what I've been going with for myself. Please bear in mind though that this is just what we have opted for Eva, and there are now probably better methods that adhere more closely to the game's lore, so your mileage ('malmage?') may vary~

I'm on the fence on this one. I agree that it's been added as a canon option to be able to do something like that, and I can agree that some people may want to change to options that were not made available previously. There might be some good RP that stems from "my husband is now my... wife?" or "my best friend is now a roeg!!" On the other hand, I feel this is a really sloppy way to go about it. As has been pointed out above using it to radically alter something that goes beyond just appearances and into the realm of genetics and such. Two elezen parents now have a child that looks like a miqo'te. He should still have that elezen upbringing, knowledge, etc. I feel like there's room for that sort of stuff to get twisted and distorted. Like I get the "but it's magic!" excuse. I just think it's kind of a sloppy way to go from point A to point B and - speaking only for myself - if I wanted to change race/gender badly enough, I would probably just create an entirely new character identity. I guess I lean slightly in the direction of the camp that feels this is not a good tool for RP - but far be it from me to dictate what other RPers elect to do for themselves!

I have a lot of experience with tarot myself and thought about doing something similar in line with the whole 'Priestess of Nymeia' sort of thing - predicting fate, seeing the pattern in the Spinner's tapestry, etc. I've just been very hesitant to inject tarot into actual lore like that because there's really no basis for it, so I've kind of gone the route of the wise woman instead. Eva left off in 1.0 believing certain things and having faith in certain things and when these events were realized some might regard her as a sort of "seer" or such. Or maybe it was all a coincidence. I kind of like that ambiguity angle. But I agree, RPing any kind of a 'psychic', 'empath', or someone who should have some sort of unnatural sense is kind of a no-no in my opinion. I'm all right if someone takes cues from things and a character draws natural conclusions, but I will be put off if someone ever sent me a /tell and said, "My character is an empath so she would know how your character feels right now, so tell me if she's really happy or if she's putting on a false happy face." TL;DR: I think it's creative and a wonderful character idea - up until the point where it could encroach on another character via metagame/godmode.

[Q&A] Legacy and non-Legacy: What does it all mean?
Eva replied to Aysun's topic in FFXIV Discussion
+1 for this being stickied (even if temporarily). It's honest, concise, clears up some commonly-held misconceptions, and informative. Kudos to Aysun for putting this together. -
Please disregard. Post above mine was edited after I posted this to include the same info.

Open Beta & Early Access, Live Letter 8 Discussion
Eva replied to Eve Malusion's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I've kind of balked at how silly a lot of these mounts have been, but unicorn might actually make a lot of sense for Eva~ I'm still holding out a hope that they'll add some one-piece swimsuits at some point!!! :dazed: -
This has been frustrating to me as well because we've dabbled with a few background characters who were duskwight and who were elderly. I'm working on the assumption that they live a bit longer than the average hyur, but not as long as lalafell, since that's what the lore seems to have implied so far (there are other discussion threads about this if you search the RPC forums for 'lifespan' perhaps - here are two such threads: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=2263 http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=2239 For my own backstory, one such character died at the age of 104 and for my purposes that was considered old. Eva's father died at 58 and that was considered middle-aged. There is an old woman originally from her clan that she's speaking with now who is the aunt of the clan's Elder, and we just haven't given her a specific age yet. This is all kind of in the fog and if they ever do announce anything I'm prepared to make whatever adjustments I have to. I know this hasn't been much help and I'm sorry for that, but in the absense of any sort of official lore, I'm kind of operating on the assumption that an average elezen might live to be between 90-100 years.

Most of this has been answered already but I'm glad to give my own impressions... I'm skipping a couple of the questions since they've already been answered succinctly by others above. 3. Do people have a responsibility to make certain "mains pair with mains" if you sense an interesting relationship (friends/rivals/lovers/enemies/long-lost relatives) forming or is it okay that someone's just not going to be around at random or for long periods of time? Our character chooses her own friendships based on meaningful interactions. More meaningful interactions means a greater affinity (whether positive or negative) from Eva. Those characters willing to spend more time with her will find that she opens up more to them. We don't really care if the other RPer has a dozen other characters they RP as long as they're willing to spend the time. I try not to make this distinction between 'main' and 'alt' any sort of dealbreaker. But I would imagine there is probably a natural correlation between how much time another RPer spends on a particular character, and how much time that particular character spends associating with our character. This sounds confusing, but basically if 'Main1' is logged in for 3 hours a day and spends an hour talking and interacting with Eva and others and 'Alt2' is logged in for 30 minutes and has a 10 minute conversation with Eva... than it follows that - over time - there will be a more meaningful relationship between Eva and Main1 than between Eva and Alt2 - assuming there is some consistency with this amount of time spent RPing/interacting together. Someone else could have a lot more free time to play more characters and spent hours on an alt, and still have as meaningful a relationship. Basically we don't really get 'jealous' (a term I'm using loosely here) if someone's alt interacts more with us than their main. Eva is friendly with a lot of people who are sort of considered kind of secondary characters. 4. Have you ever discovered that your main was paired off in one of those situations with someone's alt? They just didn't play them at all or played other characters? Did it stall out your story? What did you do? We've been involved in a friendship where the character was regarded as a 'main' and then they started to play another character they liked better more so it sort of became an 'alt'. Since there was less time spent together, their friendship weakened a bit, which seems a natural thing to me. We've also had friends who left the game entirely without much notice only to come back several months later and wonder why there was hesitation - like life wasn't going to move on in their absense and such. That's perhaps one of the most frustrating things, I think. 5. What's the biggest stereotype you think of when you think of people who only have one main character? I'm honestly not sure. I've never really heard any stereotype made, but I suppose perhaps some might say it shows a lack of creativity perhaps? To counter this, all I can really say is that Eva is a drastically different character from the one I played in FF11 - as I think most who knew both could attest to this fact. 6. What's the biggest stereotype you think of when you think of people who suffer alt-itis and swap characters often? If we're talking about stereotypes I think one of the biggest here might stem from the unwillingness to commit to one character. That multiple characters may not exhibit as much depth and realism as could be demonstrated if they played only one character. I'm not sure that this is true exactly, but I believe for many of the 'alt-itis' RPers that they may be losing out a bit on more substantial experiences by doing this. I think there is also a misconception sometimes that metagaming happens too. While this is unfounded, I have known RPers to hop around from alt to alt depending on what was happening, for whatever that might mean. 7. Which are you? A single or two main characters? 5 main characters? A bunch of alts? We are very much in the school of "one main character" - though we're considering in ARR trying to play a second character (we are a husband&wife sharing an account and one character right now - which has its own set of challenges but is getting off-topic a bit). If we do this, there would still probably be significant overlap between the two characters and I'm honestly not sure how this will pan out yet so it's probably too soon to say. But short answer here is "one main character" and we are both heavily invested in Eva's character/story/personality/etc. Great questions and I hope my responses help a little!

Awesome work!! So where do we sign up? Definitely interested!

Like Aysun, my first to 50 was Weaver. I had no interest in any of the combat jobs as they all felt somewhat lackluster early on in 1.0 when set in contrast with with what we'd grown accustomed to in FFXI, but I did find the crafting system intriguing in spite of how a lot of others felt about it early on. My next level 50 was several months later and was Lancer, and was done somewhat grudgingly. I was also dabbling a bit with Thaumaturge in the hope that "blood magic from within" might eventually transition to White Mage. Wups! After jobs were released I made a good solid push on CNJ/WHM (even though I still don't care for the "conjurer" element of it) since that was always intended to be my kind of main. These three (WVR, WHM, and to a lesser extent DRG) I consider to be my "mains" and generally don't enjoy going to do anything progression/endgame as anything other than WHM. After that I leveled Leatherworker to 50 to support crafting and focused on completing a Luminary Needle (which also meant doing a bunch of weaving synths over that I had never gotten credit for the first go-round). Then I got kind of bored towards the end of 1.0 (but only when RP wasn't happening!) and spent time leveling all the rest of the DoW/DoM jobs to 50 even though I don't really have much intention of RPing any of that experience at all. Also leveled armorcraft pretty well along but I don't remember exactly how far - mid-40's maybe. The rest of the crafts are scattered across the 20's and 30's I think.

One other thing to keep in mind is that one needn't always follow the letter of the lore strictly with relation to quest storylines. This is akin to how in FFXI a group might say "We beat the Shadowlord and saved the realm! Huzzah!" ...and then everyone who hasn't finished that particular arc is left somewhat disenchanted or otherwise says, "No you didn't, I just saw a cutscene saying the Shadowlord is still ravaging the realm!" or what-have-you. For Eva's part, I've come up with alternate explanations for attire that she's received separate from what the job quests tell us. By comparison it's much more ordinary to say that a suit of dragoon armor came from an old acquaintance who once served with her father rather than what the questline would have me believe, but I think it works better for my own approach. Good discussion so far though, and lots of great points brought up~

I may be a little off in making this assumption, but most of the people from 1.0 that I spoke with felt a certain amount of resentment about that whole "you are the single chosen one" element some of the job story arcs fortold. I don't think anyone strictly adhered to that, knowing full well that we are living in a world with multiple white/black mages and dragoons, etc. So maybe I'm mistaken, but I don't think anyone's going to be really upset if they do change the quests to make things more sensible from an MMO standpoint (as opposed to being kind of geared towards a single-player console type questline which seems sort of like the angle they were going for with some of the 1.0 quest lines). I certainly hope they make changes like this!
