  1. On a site recently I saw the phrase, 'bag of cocks'. Someone said, "what the hell do you do with a bag of cocks?!". I said, "They're what you pour your bowl of dicks from".
  2. Rubber gloves, and naked. With all of your elementary school classmates pointing and giggling. I'm not bitter or anything.
  3. For several years, I worked in a portrait studio environment, so I was pretty much surrounded by kids all the time. Now, under normal circumstances, I cuss like a sailor. But obviously, around kids (and at work) I'm not gonna do that. But frankly, habit is hard to break, and when you accidentally kneel on something hard, plastic, and sharp-edged, you naturally want to let loose with SOMETHING. Which is why my lexicon now includes such phrases as, "Crap on a stick" and "Son of a monkey". Kids think it's hilarious; adults who swear a lot themselves tend to be understanding and find it entertaining, as well as being grateful that I didn't use harsher language in front of the kids. And a very few uptight parents still can't find anything to complain about, because nobody actually cussed. Trouble is, habit goes both ways, and now I sometimes either drop one of those phrases when I don't need to, or I'll mix 'em. Today I used, "Sh*t on a stick". I have no idea where the stick part came from. Only that everything is better on a stick.
  4. Though if you can work in a good 'hoopy' or 'frood', that's always win in my book.
  5. I'd say, experiment! It doesn't take too horribly long to re-allocate your points, if you wind up needing to. Me, I'm pretty much going straight caster + DoH/DoL, so I'm putting almost double the points into MND/PIE/INT. I think those three are around 33 right now, while the others are around 20-ish? As a THM, I'm mostly balancing my elemental points. Though I'm thinking I may start dropping more into the ones I need shards for.
  6. I haven't yet explored for the sake of exploring; but I did have several crafting leves that sent me to crazily out-of-the-way camps, and I enjoyed those runs (when I wasn't running for my life!) and I did get very much the same sense you did. I love that there are 'pockets' of wildlife, while in other places, there isn't so much. And I love that it's not all "over here are the baby wildlife, and over here are the big badass wildlife". You get little 'uns mixed in with the bigger ones. That feels more natural.
  7. People need to start leaving this off lists. Really... That's how the industry works. I disagree. While I can (to some extent) accept repeated terrain, the degree to which these landmarks repeat themselves in one journey is distracting and less immersive. Is it a major problem, not really. But it's still a problem. I don't even notice it. And I've fully run to and from all three cities. In my opinion, it's New Car Syndrome. You never see anyone with the car you just bought before you have it; but now that you're aware of it, suddenly they're everywhere. Those landmarks that aggravate you so aren't massively noticeable to people who aren't deliberately looking for them.
  8. I'd rather have a few rocks repeated than the awful trees from back in the EQ days. Anyone remember those? But srsly. Textures, models, and objects get repeated. It happens everywhere; and not just in MMOs. It's just how the industry is. The world may not seem huge, but when you think about how long it would take them to individually sculpt a different tree for every.. single.. tree. And then again for rocks. And then again to make sure this hill doesn't look like that hill. That stuff takes time. And money to pay the designers. We'd never have a game if they did that.
  9. I used the patches that were in a thread here; the bigger one took me close to an hour, 'cause I have a lousy connection. The other three took a few minutes. I didn't want to torrent, because I was trying to watch the bandwidth usage -- we were very close to our monthly limit.
  10. I don't necessarily have an opinion one way or the other; I've used both styles, and can -not- use a style if it upsets someone. The only 2 cents that I have to throw in is this: There is a -lot- of information that use non-verbal and non-facial cues, that we pick up on without realizing it. Everything from how you're standing or sitting, to the subtle changes in your voice's pitch, to the variations in skin flushing; and these are things we are usually not aware of. We're doubly unable to communicate this information effectively in a digital format. We can't make our characters' bodies respond in those infinitely subtle ways. And if we are aware of them, it's still much faster - especially given our delightfully short character limit - to give a brief, vague inner-monologue moment than it is to go into the crazy level of detail it'd take to convey all that information. I've RPed with someone who did all of that. For every post. Every. Single. Day. You could go out and have a cigarette between each of his posts. He'd consider himself slacking if he posted less than three paragraphs at a time. That's fine, if that's your style. But in a game that limits your text, it may be easier and more intuitive for some players to provide shorter - albeit less 'proper' - cues to their characters dispositions.
  11. I... uh... I have an Alienware laptop? >_> BUT SRSLY, that's a really sweet set-up. I'm jealous of people with nice big screens.
  12. That's gettin' awful complicated, for a company that hasn't even given us a search function yet. Just a simple search ability would take care of all of it, really. Why would they make selling things any easier than any other part of the game so far?
  13. Cause they said they didn't want to. *shrug* I got nothin' on that one; except that the idea is probably to keep the market more in the players hands and do something about the RMT crap. I don't understand economics, so I don't know if it'll help or not. Or maybe SE is just being stubborn and they want to do it this way because they want to. Who knows? There's nothin' wrong with a bazaar system, as long as we can FIND what we want.
  14. I don't think a Search would make it an AH at all. It still allows for distinct vendors, BUT: -- It allows buyers to see if the item they want is even available; and -- It allows sellers to see what the market is like. As someone who wants to sell materials, I'd really like to be able to find out what other people are selling them for, so I don't drastically undercut or overshoot the mark. That can all be done without centralizing it into an AH style system.
  15. Yuh, it does. It's not gonna be easy, but it's still better than nothing, for now. I'm just grateful I don't plan to sell too many different types of things.
  16. It is, in fact, SO easy to get from one city to another that I'm going to start in Ul'Dah, despite planning for Chveya to be a fisher, because I like that city so much more. For some unknown reason, I love in-game desert cities / places, but I absolutely hate hate hate real deserts.
  17. Where are you reading that it's a Rank 1 spell? In beta, it wasn't.
  18. Well thanks. I tried to stay away from "This is awesome!" or "This sucks!", because I know awesome and suck are relative.

    Sexy time!

I love Subligars! I specifically went out and got one, with the harness for the top armor, for Chveya before beta ended. I even had thigh-high boots to run around in. You mean like this? Hello, Zy. Long time, no see! Yes, just like that! [attachment=0]
  20. PROS: - It's beautiful. - You can utilize every class in the game, in any combination you please, all on the same character - Gathering professions are more than just mindless point-and-click - Crafting actually has a level of skill (and intuition) required - Character creation is too addictive CONS: - It'll eat your system if you haven't got a good one. - You can go nuts with classes, but your stat allocation still needs to be kept in mind - Gathering can be a little... random - Crafting will make you want to throw something heavy at your screen at least once - Character creation could have a little more customization. Hello, not everyone is a size 2!
