  1. Who can forget Far is the gender bending runaway princess turned pirate captain from FF 5 or Celes the double agent opera singing general from FF 6? I have seen a lot of pirates and some Empire exiles PCs mentioned on the wiki and the forums. Any spies for the Empire or gender bending pirates out there looking for RP?
  2. Thank you my friend for your interest and your reply. It seems this roll of the dice has paid off. Whom shall be the next to answer the call? We are half way there. Where is the true innocent that has untapped powers but a soft smile and a pure heart like Terra in FF6 or Rinoa in FF8? Where is the ignamatic lurker who says little but performs great acts of skill like Shadow in FF6 or Vincent in FF7? Where is the battle tested warrior with a strong heart and a hearty laugh like Galuf in FF5 or Cyan in FF6? The Viking Warrior the Ninja Assassin and the Adventurous Pirate remain. Who are you? Thanks again to all who have taken time to look at this post and to those who have remained respectful of its content.
  3. Greetings: One of the things that FF has always done is give us great characters through its franchises history that are based off of traditional fantasy archetypes. I would present to such an idea for an adventuring crew to represent that traditional FF spirit. A group of adventures each with their own unique abilities character traits and quirks to make up a very special group. Although back story is important it is equally important to be a memorable character. Although fireside chats about your past are necessary it is important to also be a good character with feelings and characteristics that make you alive. Such are the things we love most about FF the story and the characters. Although there is nothing wrong with preplanning stories or events this is about organic RP that springs from adventuring together traveling together and interacting with one and another. It is to say we have no idea what can happen. Everyone is a DM or sorts. Short of how each other meets nothing is planned prior. I did scripted RP on STO and being an avid Trek fan I loved it. But I locked when things went off course. The best RP I had was on SWG where things just happened. Yeah we had general ideas but nothing was planned. If we wanted to do something that night we talked about it in character and went and did it as characters. Other times we just sat and talked not about our pasts but live as our characters saw it while in character. That is what is being suggested here. If we get a good response we may do a shell. If not we are happy to have tried. Diversity is what makes the world great. That is why I like everyone here. We may not all agree but we love that we all have a place to be. So what are we looking for? Here is where the title of this post comes in. We have the samurai and the witch. Now we seek to add to the remaining classic FF character types. Where is the strong warrior viking seekkng their next honorable victory? Where is the wise sagely priest who seeks knowledge? Where is the assassin ninja seeking their next target? Where is crafty pirate treasure hunter looking for their next score? Are any of these adventure types you? Perhaps you are a villain trying to thwart these six adventurers? Please reply if any of these types apply to you. No need to worry about your PCs race or gender. Let's just see what if anyone we can get. It is said you will never know what can be if you do not try. This is my attempt. Will you try as well? Thank you for your time and interest in reading this. It is greatly appreciated. Please positive comments only. I thank you in advance for your understanding and civility.
  4. No doubt here. Konner is a samurai. I even have him wear the samurai bunny helmet and don't use shields in game as the gladiator class. I think it is really cool if people stay true to their ideas even if it might mean you aren't party invite friendly.
  5. I would like to make this thread for a listing and background for all those out there who might be playing villains. During my days in swg, I played a really bad boy of a villain there. I am not gonna play one on here, but I can say it was the best RP experience of my life ever, table-top, forum or in game. I would like to see if anyone would like to come forward and announce themselves as a true villain here. I know we are fighting the Garleans and they are the bad boys, but I would like to see if anyone fancies themselves a Kefka or a Sephiroth sorta person. I am not trying to say that anyone would ever rival the Garleans, but it would be strange to think that somewhere, someone would not thirst for power over others or seek to destroy others unless they were a Garlean. I would just like to give a chance to people here to make themselves known in case anyone wanted to have a good bad guy to go up against. Whether you are a cold blooded killer, a black mage in search of that one spell to rule them all or mad clown who has had enough with the world in general, here's your chance to become known. Hope some people will reply with some good bad guys!
  6. I would surely hope it is welcomed. If not, I am sure many are going to do it anyways.
  7. I chose Other. Konner's Allegiance is to his lord. Currently, he has no lord. When and if that changes, that is who he will be loyal to.
  8. Being a swordsman without a lord, I would say poverty. Wealth really doesn't mean anything to Konner, but serving someone who has it would be a high priority for him.
  9. Welcome back to everyone and thanks for the mail to invite us all back. I look forward to seeing everyone in game again and can't wait till we get there. Hope they give server names soon so the site can pick one. Glad to see both old friends and new people. I look forward to RPing with everyone in game very soon!
  10. I must disagree. From the Final Fantasy 14 offical website: 'Yet despite this annual significance, a strange and powerful gift, newly come to Eorzea from a faraway land, has begun to divert the attention and admiration of people across the realm, both smallfolk and adventurer alike. Said to be a principle element in the celebration of Heavensturn in the Far East, it is a mighty helm masterfully spellforged in the likeness of a rabbit. Adorable to some, atrocious to others, and appealing to adventurers for its attractive attributes, this rare, leporine headpiece may prove attainable by those with festive proclivities.' A Helm from the Far East. Samurais are well known warriors from the Far East in traditional cultures. Here is a pic of said helm: http://static.finalfantasyxiv.com/topics/images/ca/bb Here is a pic of a samurai helm: http://www.japanese-armor.com/images/pr ... 083-gt.jpg You will note the similarities. Here is a wiki link to samurais in Final Fantasy history: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Samurai Where as you are correct that samurai is not listed on the wiki for FF14, I will note that you refer to yourself as a dancer. Here is a link to dancer in the final fantasy wiki: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Dancer You will note that dancer is not listed in the wiki for FF14 either. However, we see 'dancers' in the miner's guild. Neither a logical jump to being a dancer nor a samurai in this game is a far stretch even at this time. I appreciate your concern, but the proof is here. I can see the community has not changed as much as I thought.
  11. I have decided to try FF 14 again before 2.0 in an attempt to see the unfolding before the rebirth. I am very excited about 2.0. I really think, as I did the first time, this will be the game for me going forward based on what I have seen from 2.0. It looks very FFish. Konner is a samurai. I play a Gladiator, but I do not use armor or shields. I know, that won't get me invited to many parties, but I am what I am. Anyways, Konner is a ronin with a past and in need of work. He is a skilled swordsman and a decent gambler. He is honorable and direct, but kind and good-natured. He would serve a lord if there was one willing to show him good lodging and living. For now, he would seek others like him. He would do best with anti-heroes and the like. I would like to meet with anyone and just RP to do it. I have expereince in such and am no stranger, but I am not cool with finger waggers. I am encouraged also by the changes I see here on this site from its old days. The community here seems much more inviting. I would also be interested in the days to come of having a static RP party, but probally after 2.0. For now, I just want to get to know everyone in game in the RP community. Please contact me in game or here. I think you would find Konner enjoyable. Thank you!
  12. I probally need to explain 'kicking people out' a bit better. It's not a ban or keeping people out. It would just be like a 'you've had a few too many to drink and have become loud.' Then show them to the door. No one is not to come back or being forced out, it's more like at that moment they would recognize the bouncer is asking them to leave and neither the bouncer nor the person in question should begin to go into god-mode. They could return right after that. It would just be like an instanced event that just occured. There may be better ideas on how to handle that. I am not an intelligent person and I am sure there are thousands of others who could come up with a better way. I also wanna make clear that we would not be claiming ownership of the place, but be more like an on-shift, working it short of thing. I really just want people to reply to this that are interested in it. I hope everyone would at least support an idea that is trying to assist here and in game. If it's not 100% cannonical, I am sorry. If this falls by the wayside, then so-be-it. I hope this site moving forward is positive in generating ideas and assisting the community. Thanks again to everyone for taking the time to read this.
  13. Once upon a time, early on in Final Fantasy 14, before many came to the conclusion the game was just too unfinished to merit continued play, the Miner's Guild in Ul'Dah was a place that many RPers used to congregate and roleplay. I was always taken back by its setting because it reminded me some of the old swg cantinas with its stage and bar patrons setting about. Table top D n D was really famous for starting the whole 'meeting in a tavern' to go and adventure. I would like to put forth an idea I have and ask for volunteers. This is not a linkshell. I would like to see the Miner's Guild become like a Cheers. It would be a place where everybody could go to see each other and be seen by others. In this idea, it would be a community place. I am not advocating it to be THE community place, just a more organic place to have RP develope. The same way that this site helps direct RPers to linkshells, the Miner's Guild could become the place to direct RPers to others. By meeting in the guild, RP could occur organically through start up conversations. It could also lead to RPers asking for others to join them on RP adventures for long-term story telling. Again, this is not an attempt to hinder linkshells or to recruit for one. In fact, if the shells liked, they could use it as a place to recruit and show off what they are all about in game. This is of course, if we got the place to be packed again. So, what would I like to do? I would like to have a cast of characters 'run' the bar so to speak. Think of them like living npcs played by pcs that you could get to know and RP with. Instead of the players that would run the Miner's Guild explaining their backstories and reasons for living to you when you speak with them, the players running the guild would be geared on listening and interacting with the players that came in and forming relationships of any level and/or feeling(s) with them. The players running it would also seek to become 'memorable' personalities, much like those you might find at a local bar or on Cheers. Let me also say that I am not trying to establish accepted lore or fact here by saying that the cast 'running' the bar are to be its only accepted cannonical owners. I would only ask that when the cast is 'on duty' (that is to say in the Miner's Guild and Roleplaying) that they would be roleplayed at that time as the person(s) tending to the Guild (much like being on shift). What we would be looking for would be four people with these limited specific qualites to fit the 'job descriptions': 1. Manager of the Bar - a person who could finance the bar. This would probally be a noble and someone who is skilled with salesmanship and advertising. 2. Bouncer - the quiet hired hand who keeps watch over all as patrons enjoy their time. If they had to 'bounce' someone, patrons should agree to roleplay being 'thrown out' in a reasonable manner (as in no god-style suff on either side). 3. Tender - the Barkeep who is probally a retired warrior/miner or something, who has taken up cooking (a good chance to roleplay the selling of some of your actual crafted food items maybe) and tells stories of the 'old days' of adventuring and also knows a bit/ a bunch about the Garleans and the surrounding area mines. 4. Entertainer - the wide-eyed dancer/bard who tends tables until the entertainment is set to begin. Someone who is looking to become a star known throughtout the land, but has humble beginnings. Again, this is an idea. I understand some will accept it, other will pan it. As I said before, this is not a linkshell and it is not ment to take away from any of the already eastablished and great linkshells. As I state prior, if the place gets big, then maybe linkshells can even come as a group to recruit or otherwise. If we can get those 4 'cast' members set, then we can work towards maybe getting some schedule posted for everyone to see as far as when we will be 'on the clock'. I really hope that people who reply to this don't waste time panning it. I really just want people interested in the positions or in favor of this to reply. I too have been burned on here in the past for trying to come up with ideas that may or may not have been the most straight cannon or overall good ideas. I came back here after the dusk settled and can see that there are others who are trying to get somethings ironed out. This is just an idea. If you like it, come help make it a reality. If you don't like it, then these are not the droids you are looking for and you can move along because there is nothing more to see here. If you are interested in the positions, you can reply here or contact Konnor Kinkaid in game. If you just like the idea, let me know. I am not saying only having four positions is a permenant thing either. Just for the sake of getting things going, we will shoot for four. Again, these people will act as living npcs that other players can come to the Miner's Guild and see when we are 'on duty'. It would really be like a place where everybody knows your name. It would be a place where you walk in the players running it might call out your name to welcome you and ask about the latest adventure you were last on. Thank you all for taking the time to read this. I really do appreciate everyone here in this community and all the roleplaying linkshells for keeping the scene alive.
  14. To all those who have taken a moment to read this: First let me thank you for taking a small amount of your time to read this message and for continuing to support Final Fantasy 14, FF in-general, and roleplaying in FF 14. This is a re-introduction as I am returning to the game after being excited by the prospects of patch 1.19 with everything it has reported to be bringing and the job class patch of 1.20. Although I am reserving judgment on the job patch package until details are released, if it gives us the tradition of FF Jobs, what could be better? Anyways, I am back and with a new character named Konner Kinkaid. I haven't yet fleshed out everything of him, but what I do know is this: All too often I, like so many others, have made a character and then attempted to make myself stay within those boundaries and find others like me. After many mmos and years, I have come to the conclusion I have to try something new. I cannot continue to stay closed within myself for the only reason of staying true to myself. In doing so, I have already, before speaking with anyone, forced semi-alienation upon myself. That is counter-productive when my real goal, like so many others, is to RP with others. I must find a new way for the sake of the expereince and the community itself. We all, as RPers, have to think within ourselves which is more important: The expereince that can only be gained within the RP community as a whole or the story of our character. What I would like to ask everyone is this: What is FF RP? I mean to say, what makes FF Final Fantasy? To define it, I think you have to look over the entire line of games and look for common themes and appearances. I am not just talking about airships, chocobos, moogles and a guy named Cid. I am talking about those things like the female lead with a hidden past and/or power. The lead male character and his rival and their battles to define real good and evil. I do not want to expand, but instead, offer that question up to all of you. I am not so green that I do not believe that this post will be well replied to, but I think it is worth trying. I don't have all the answers, but I believe that a community would. So I am here, reaching out, saying to all of you 'what is FF RP?' If we can, together, define it within the parameters of a 'true' FF experience on a majority idea, then perhaps we can all move foward in rethinking the RP community as a whole. I am not looking to unite here, or form one big group, I am only asking a question. I believe that this question is a necessary step to furthering the overall expereince and longevity moving forward as the game rebounds in the next year. It is better to prepare as a community now for the certain influx that will occur when things iron themselves out. Please do not misunderstand my intentions. I am not someone seeking leadership, I am just a person asking a question to people much wiser than myself. I ask. Will you answer? Many thanks to your prompt attention to this matter and your overall concern in general for the continued prosperity of a thriving, enjoyable RP community within the confines of this wonderful, unpolished world: faceman7381 (Konner Kinkaid)
  15. I know somewhere out there there is a little Vivi like scholar guy and a Highland prince from Ala Mhigo who is now a pit fighter. I am sure there is also a performer of arts that works at the miner's guild and a mysterious seer who conjures elements while keeping to themselves. Come out and be know!
  16. I just wanna say too, if you haven't checked out what Axl has going on, you really should! This guy is a top shelf RPer and a GREAT guy! And no, I am not in his linkshell. Really, there are some people who lead LSs and guilds because they love the ego. Axl loves the RP and that is all. I highly recommend looking him up.
  17. Currently we have: Priest Squire Thief Syndicate Opperative Still needed: Bard Scholar Seer Pit Fighter Garlean Warlord Other Rivals
  18. It is also important to note that Hesper is the classic White Mage priest. He is not the main 'hero' character. Therefore, just like in most later FF titles, this is one of several main plot lines in the story. Those interested will also get to come up with larger ideas to tie a complete story together.
  19. I really want to invite everyone to slow down and do some more RP. I would like to see a more Final Fantasy style story, and that is what I am trying to create here. I have played every FF title in the series except 13 and even have played the old black and white gameboy 'Heroes' titles and Crystal Chronicles. This story has some classic reaccuring FF themes to it such as the people on the moon (FF 4), the super being who is a woman (FF 6 and 8) and the group of adventurers who seek to protect the being of power (FF 10). Now, in FF style, I want to see a character driven story. That is where characters and their relationships drive the story. We should all get to know each other and have strong bonds that are tested as we progress through adventuring and seeking the Vice. I want good character back stories so that they can be revealed over time in the sorta 'cut scene' visiting a place that triggers a memory as opposed to 'spilling the beans over the fire or a drink' all the time. Also, they need to be good characters. Once we know about your character's past, what else is there? These characters need to have strong personalities that keep all of us interested in them and help us to develope long standing relationships with them. I encourage anyone here to look at this and contact me. I am not close minded in story. I would love to hear everyone's ideas and not just ones that deal with the discovery of the Vice.
  20. Prolouge: Legends as far back to the days of the Creation speak of a lunar race that lived amoungest the stars on the moon. They were the first to win the Twelve's favor and some say, the first creation of the Twelve. Their's was a perfect society and sages, scholars and magi. Bardic tales throughout the land each speak of how their demise came, but all end the same: One soul of these ancients broke free and descended to the world below. This soul is born into a child, unknown to itself, each generation. There is no rhyme of reason as to how such things take place, only that there is one and one alone. Throughout time, members of each race has claimed to have bore the legendary being known to most as 'The Vice', although each culture has a name for it that differs from the other. The power that the being hides unknown to it is unimaginable. It is said that the being can control space and time and open the heavens themselves with just a thought. However, most have never seen nor even know of such a being. Only through bardic tales has the legend lived on. It has been said the Vices have come and gone from this world without ever even knowing of their power. When the Garlean Empire first invaded the highlands of Ala Mhingo, they brought with them a technology this world had yet seen. The seers of the lands told of the Vice's return and in this life, it had been born as a Garlean. It was thought that the Garleans had found a way to harness the power of the Vice and use it to create their massive weapons of destruction. However, no known surviving Highlander nor later, state spy from any of the three nations could confirm the existance of the Vice amoungest the Garleans. This left both questions and a void. If the Vice was amoungest the Garleans, that person must be found and destroyed for the sake of the world. If it was not, then it had to be found before the Empire found it. Being that the Vice is known in legend as a female child, it could be anyone, anywhere. The elder Thaumaturges have long spoke of the Vice and now have secretly commanded some of its more devote members to seek those who would aid in finding and protecting the Vice. Father Hesper LaLue of Ul'dah is one such priest. He sets out, seeking others to aid him in this quest. He also knows that he must beware of not only spys from the Empire, but those of the Syndicate that might seek to discover the Vice and exploit it for their own selfish means. Who will join with him? Who will seek to find the Vice for their own means? Who is the Vice? Will you be the one to discover the truth? Currently seeking the following type characters: Thief with a good sense of humor Seer who is also a powerful, studied mage Pit Fighter who is quiet and a loner Squire that is a knight in taining Bard versed in legends Crazy old Scholar These will comprise the group that searches for the Vice. Also wanted to be rivals: An individual with ties to the Syndicate in Ul'dah A Bandit Lord A Garlean Warlord Please contact me if any of this sounds like it fits you.
  21. I have developed a small group of players who have some ideas. I would like to find some more players and specifically a female conj./mage and a traditional 'hero' type character that would be a gladiator probally. If you enjoy character based rp and probally a story-driven experience through game advancement and character interactions with some site-based rp thrown in, let me know.
  22. If anyone has ever seen Samurai 7, then perhaps you know what I am talking about. There were 7 characters, each with very different personalities and all whom could have been a lead character in their own story, but who fit together nicely to tell a large, complex adventure story. That's what I am talking about here. Larger than life character all interacting to tell a large, epic Final Fantasy-esc story with conquest, betrayl, lust, friendship, heroics and love all spliced in.
  23. Just trying to push this over the top here. I have met with a bunch of great rpers on Besaid so far and have made some good friends. As I said, FF is great because of the characters and that is what I really want here. Where is the Cloud, Squall or Tidus hero who has awaken to become the star of the show? Where is the scorned prince/king like Edward the bard from ff4 or Edgar the Engineer from ff6? Where is the redeemed cocky, smart-mouthed thief like Locke in ff6 or Reku is ff10? Where is the cooky mage like Strago from ff6 or Vivi from ff9? I don't want to be the hero. I am a white mage by trade and am forming a nice little pocket for myself in the desert as a priest of sorts. Yet, I'd like to see a real rp adevnturing party with those classic FF character types listed above comprising its ranks. Think about it in the terms of like D & D where the adventurers get together to explore and 'save the world' and then when they are not together, they are so famous for being the world 'heros' that they lead their own orders on the side. For examples, why not like a monastic order of priests led by the group's white mage, me, a knightly order of paladin's led by the group's classic knight protecting the relm like Cyan from ff6 or Cecil from ff4, a 'treasure hunter's' guild (to steal the terms Locke used to make himself not sound like a thief in ff6) led by the group's thief ect. Then all the heros get together and adventure as a party away from their orders as the 'heros of the world' just like in all FF games. We can still solo and do our own thing, but then come together and adavance 'our story' as we see fit. It just makes real good sense to me. We'd be like rock stars and people throughout the server would know us. Yes, this is ambitious, but why not? Sure there might be some personality clashes, but that is what makes it fun. Plus, it's not like we are together 24/7. The whole thing can even start with the hero waking from a dream and being told to find Hesper LaLue. Bingo, we're off to the races. I know I am not the only one out here that has a great love and understanding for the old school FF style characters. Please, let's see if we can do something like this.
  24. As an update, I have met a few people here and there. Some have some cool ideas and I hope I can see where the future leads. I am still amazed at how an mmo like FF with thousands of people online and a HUGE, loyal fanbase with decades of ideas to draw from would not even say two words to each other in passing. If you are out there, we need to get together.
