Howdy! He's not dead? He's not dead!! Huzzah! Personally, I have had very little experience with recreational drugs in-game. However, there was one roleplaying session that I was snooping on which included a drug which I believe is non-canon, called "Shiva's Tear". Whilst this is not a canon recreational drug in Eorzea, for me it made the scene and I felt inclined to ask about it afterwards, so here goes! (A little profile, apologies if it's patchy, my memory is not the best.) Name: Shiva's Tear Street Codename(s): "Spring Water", "Hyuran Funny-Juice" (usually used by Goblin traders) Ingestion: The drug takes a liquid form and, as such, is most commonly injected or added to food/drinks. Manufacture: Now, this bit I cannot remember much about, names mainly. All I remember is that it is created by the distilling of some hallucinogenic shrub in pure spring water. Depending upon how long it is left to brew/distill and the purity of the spring water used, the stronger it is. Impure Shiva's Tears can be called "Primal Piss". Effects: From what I saw, Shiva's Tear is a hallucinogenic. In it's purest forms, the liquid drug can invoke the most vivid of visions and, indeed, waking nightmares. The individual experience varies from person-to-person. When this was used in the scene I looked in on, it was brewed in to herbal tea and ingested by a "Prophet" to predict a prophecy. Presumably, some cultures have taken this drug to grant futuresight, etc. Though, when I asked the people who were roleplaying it's effects, it is most commonly used for relaxation. Take the above as you will, but personally, I loved the scene that was acted out because of this psychedelic little hallucinogen. :moogle:

You know I love you guys, right? It's really refreshing to read that others have been through it (though this I already knew from helping others out, it helps nonetheless!) and thoughts on what to do. So thanks. H'oi, nosey! But I shall oblige. I'll be pursuing past hobbies of reading (extensively, like... two books a day as a minimum), studying (yeah, I make studying a hobby. Especially browsing the interwebs and libraries on topics of interest), continued; studying pathogens, pathogenic transfer and characteristics. I'm not weird, I promise! Aaaand a more exercise-based hobby of running. I -used- to go hiking a lot, but I live in a built up city area, so running shall have to suffice. Also: Asgarn shall blow your mind. ... Sounded better in my head.

Yeah, it's not just MMOs, mind. I'll never say I've wasted time on games, they will always be one of my true loves, buuut... Time to hand up the ol' T-16 for a while.

Hey, guys! I'll cut straight to the point with this. Recently, I have began suffering from something called "gaming burnout", a phrase that some might be familiar with. In short, it means a person has lost their flare/desire to game for various reasons varying from player to player. Ergo, I have decided to take a break from gaming as a whole for a little while, or longer. Just until the flame is rekindled. However, I shall still be around and/or lurking around here because I have no life I'm not in any way, shape or form ready to say goodbye to this place and I will likely return to gaming sometime or another, maybe sooner rather than later. In this time absent, I will hardly be idle. I've decided to pursue a couple of other old hobbies to see if they can help at all. As well as this, I shall be putting the finishing touches to my preparations for the new academic year, provided all goes smoothly, of course! (For those interested, this case of burnout really comes out of the blue, but I am not taken aback by it. It figures with a few things going on in real life which require my undivided attention, depression coming back on the backswing and just generally getting bored in-game a lot in more than just FFXIV. But I won't bore you with my self-diagnostics!) I shall see you guys around! :moogle:

I caved. :blush: I now have Windows 8.1 Pro and can honestly say that I love most of it's aspects. It's smaller and takes up less space than Windows 7 so my computer runs as if I'd just ran a system clean up every time I use it! On top of the compact size, there's some sweet features on the desktop that can be accessed whilst in fullscreen mode. ie. the dashboard (swipe an L shape in the top left of the screen, displays Start, Devices, etc. in a compressed window), activity bar by doing the same in the top left corner. Whilst these might not be anything big for other gamers, I usually have multiple things requiring my attention running at once, so this is ideal. A lot of the "hate" this version receives seems to be based around the panel system. I can say now that the panels only apply for the start screen and, honestly, make the start screen a lot easier to navigate and more visually appealing. I am not exactly a qualified techie, so I can't go in to all the technical stuff, but I'm liking this version so far.

Hey there, Steel. Allow me to start off by saying I completely understand where you are coming from. About a month ago, there was a period where I would log in, give Asgarn one look and think to myself "Not today, buddy.", followed by a swift log out and firing up a different game or (God forbid) doing something constructive with my time. At this point, my RoeRoe was in a half-complete set of AF2, could not for the life of me get a group capable of defeating Titan Extreme and was just generally in a bit of a rut. So, in short, I understand. Given how much time I had put in to Asgarn, I decided I could not simply give up on him. So, I did the following things: - I pushed myself, against better instinct, to continue with progressing him. It was torture, but the only way to get out of a rut is to press on. - I re-opened Star Wars: The Old Republic for the first time in a years and a half. Splitting my time between two games made Asgarn seem like less of a commitment/chore. - I made my Elezen crafter/Bard: Aumeric. Again, more characters to split time between made the feeling of "Ugh... Not you again" go away. Now, Asgarn has a full set of AF2 (White Mage), has my love once more and still cannot find a group freaking capable of downing Titan Extreme! :V But that is not his, or my, fault. One day, ONE DAY TITAN SHALL FALL.

Some very nice tidbits dug up in this interview. However, there was one bit (part of the interview that was quoted by allgivenover, nonetheless, that got my blood boiling): This is nothing to do with what they intend to do, but rather the way they phrased it. They made the game sound like a weapon. Whilst I can see that the MMO market is rather cut throat and other MMOs employ these tactics... In my honest opinion, calling features "weapons" slams a great amount of dis-credibility on to Square Enix. This is something you would see Blizzard doing (no, I am not a fan of "Global domination is a must"-minded Blizzard, stealing entire player bases OR pompous arses). That minor point aside, however, this interview was a nice one indeed.

I cannot offer much help with the topic due to having limited Miqo'te knowledge, but I shall support Ildur with two words: Lalafell. Pugilists.

*Rolls up in his RoeMobile* Oh, look. You get three grumpy Roegadyn! Hehe. I will start off by saying I -love- the cannibal concept. It's something that is very rarely explored outside World of Warcraft (Troll RP, mostly. The race, not the douche variety) and I would love to see how you portray it in the Final Fantasy universe. Now, not to regurgitate what the other two said, but I have to agree that it's safer to play a character that is "like so-and-so", rather than being flat out from another universe. I mean, your character could be like him in every single way possible (mannerisms, appearance, bits of human between the teeth...) but for it to be considered more widely accepted, I would suggest you do not make the character a direct reincarnation of said anime character. By all means, have your character go around shouting "I AM LIO SHIRAZUMI!" but the people of Eorzea would likely take your character as an extreme eccentric and reply "Um... Hi. I am "Insert name here*..." or treat him as though he has a few bolts loose in the ol' noggin. Also, there is always the risk with taking a character directly from another game where people will refuse to hear you out, will get butthurt and will refuse to roleplay with you. Likely whilst badmouthing you to everyone they know. Rest assured, these people are few and far between on FFXIV, but some do exist! Now, I found the above to be a very interesting point. Whilst, typically, yes it is true they broke that ruuuuuule... Yes and no. Sure, Lightning dimension hopping was a bit of a "What the-?" moment, but let's look at a few facts: - Lightning comes from a dimension far in to the future, far more advanced than Eorzea. Kinda a null point, but you'll see where I'm coming from soon. - The Fal'Cie are almighty beings, each with different unique skills as well as the conjoined ability to create l'Cie. Who is to say that at least one Fal'Cie does not have access to dimensional shift magic (effectively advanced Time Magic, a form of magic seen in the Final Fantasy universe). - Lightning isn't exactly liked among the Fal'Cie. Put two and two together, they wanted to "test her" AKA kill her in a twisted, evil Fal'Cie way. - This has happened before in FFXIII. Think the re-make. - Lastly, Lightning is from the Final Fantasy universe. Now, the guy you want to bring to Eorzea has no connection to the Final Fantasy universe. I could be wrong, but I highly doubt that a mirror dimension of his is one with Hydaelyn inside. So, by my thinking, it is near impossible or at the very least infeasible to see that his spirit would jump to Eorzea. The again you could and likely would be able to find a like-minded community to roleplay him in. If that's the case, best of luck to you and that is awesome! However, for the ability to integrate your character in to the general FFXIV RP circuit, I would suggest the "is like so-and-so" route. Kudos on the concept! :moogle:

The RPC is not full of negative people, as he might have you believe. True, we are a diverse mix of people (ie. Super happy people, geniuses both in-game and out, "take them with a pinch of salt" people, jokers and indeed many other types), I would not say -personally- that I have come across any downright meanies. But, as with all communities, it pays to "take it on the chin" time-to-time. That's just a basic life skill, right?

I can completely understand that as I have the same issue. Oddly, PvP and battlegrounds are fine for me. But when it's 1VS1, I tend to get slightly nervous. Especially with card games... It's a weird habit/phobia. Personally, I've never seen the attraction to Hearthstone. It's, affectively, Blizzard's answer to all the other internet TCGs out there. Am I supposed to be excited because it has Blizzard's name behind it? Nah.

Now, I'm not entirely certain if this is the place to post character concepts, however, the Balmung Directory seems to be for you account and a list of your characters. NOT detailed individual pieces on characters you have. As such, I figured I'd put down this little concept here in profile form! Enjoy. Or not, as the case might be. :moogle: The Basics: Name: Aumeric Haillenarte Age: 24 Race: Wildwood Elezen Residence: Gridania, formerly Ishgard. Occupation: Travelling Bard, recently sighted in taverns across Thanalan. Noticable Physical/Mental Traits: Height: 6' 7" (average among Elezen) Weight: Below average. A combination of a lean muscular structure and generally appearing very thin, it's clear the traveller's life has taken it's toll. Hair colour: Viridian green Eye colour: Light brown Scars, marks or other?: None that are apparent to the eye when fully clothed. Phobias: Aumeric seems to have a clear dislike of insects. Likes: Music, performing for others, botany (specifically a bouquet with a sprig of East Bank Mistletoe in). Dislikes: Talking about Ishgard/Halone, insects. General Overview: Despite being of House Haillenarte, Aumeric has never been all too fond of his homeland. Constantly at war, spiting one another in "the name of Halone". From a young age, he knew music was where his passion laid, not war with the dragons. Spending his days writing sonnets and ballads, composing musical pieces with the harp, flute and lute, he was somewhat of an oddity though his family could not deny he had talent. Aumeric did not leave Ishgard on bad terms, instead choosing to relocate to Gridania where he would develop a taste for botany from his room at the Carline Canopy, often making trips to the Botanists Guild, exchanging his songs for tips and tricks with cultivating flora. Never one to settle too long, Aumeric usually moves on from any given settlement every six months, travelling Eorzea with his lute in hand. However, Gridania has won a special place in his heart and is now considered his home, like a pigeon flying back to it's nest from any distance. Soooooo, that is all I have for Aumeric. I prefer it this way, as it allows for quite a bit of development, in all honesty. :angel:

On that note it is a real shame that the Garlean gear, salute, and mount are all part of the end-game story quests... thats a LOT of leveling to do for some gear and an emote. This I must agree with. However, one can always custom emote and wear gear that looks like it could be Garlean (ie. Dye it red. ). Though, if you're not wanting to be detected, I reckon you'd wear Eorzean gear. Haha! That is the one thing that separates them from Final Fantasy-ified dwarves, I suppose. Feel free to give yours facial hair. :moogle: (Oddly enough, I never noticed the likeness to dwarves until people said.)

As said before, there is always the possibility that the occasional Mountainfolk would slip through Garlemald's grasp. However, given the nature of their Garlean occupancy (ie. military outposts built on their lands "for defence", the Garleans conditioning the Mountainfolk to believe they are there for their own good, the snowy plains of their homeland being near void of hiding places) it would be immensely difficult for one to escape, or even want to escape. In relation to RP, I think there are a fair number of Garlean RPers and linkshells/Free Companies alike. So it shouldn't be too hard. (And, if your character is of Garlemald and in Eorzea, it's not like they're going to run around shouting "FOR GARLEMALD! FOR THE EMPIRE!", are they? You're likely to be a spy or some such.)

Now, there are three main RP experiences that really jump out to me. Two with comedic value, one which was more of a tear jerker. Here's the twist: None of them were from FFXIV (though I hope to make some). They were from, bare with me, Star Wars: The Old Republic and World of Warcraft.

I tried to make them fit as much as possible, which was rather strenuous, so thanks! And I see no reason why the female naming conventions would be any different, except for perhaps more soft sounding names. In terms of naming, they are like all other Lalafell except with the surname.

@Mijisaa: Thank you very much! Funnily enough, that is where the concept came from (to a degree). I read about Lalafell being adverse to the cold and was like "What a shame... Wait a minute!". :angel: @TheWizard: JOIN US OR BE TRAMPLED BENEATH OUR CUTENESS! @Karu: I'm so glad that you felt inspired! If you want a Mountainfolk, add Neneru Raji'neru. I plan on making him a small Garlean with a spear. It's great to see that a non-canon race can get such a great reception. ^.^ I shall continue to add to the racial lore, etc. as and when inspiration strikes.
