  1. It's really simpler than it sounds or appears. In FFXIV 1.0 we only had linkshells that served as guilds. Although as a guild system it was really bareboned. It was basically a list of people much like a friendlist but with a guildchat channel. You could join multiple linkshells and follow all their chats in the log. FFXIV: ARR now introduces Free Company which becomes the new in a sense true Guild system. Any MMORPG usually forces people to only join 1 guild. This is what Free Company will become. However, linkshells still remain with the same function as in FFXIV 1.0. But will serve more as a way to create social groups. Conclusion(tl;dr) Free Company = The true typical mmorpg guild (Join 1 and only one) and allows acces to future Guild housing Linkshell = social groups (Join as many as you want), no additional benefits Additional edit: You can join a Free company and also join multiple linkshells at the same time. Just wanting to clarify it.
  2. (Mtoto beat me to it. Damn those catgirls are quick) Ronberku took it and smashed it to pieces because he hates every magitek related weapon! No, I'm joking. The real explanation is below. There was a quest with Hildibrand that took the player to Thanalan. Where our silly detective found the gunhalberd that a farmer had picked up. Although Hildibrand ended up accidentally using it and blasting himself into the sky. Afterwards we were left with no clue to what happened with his weapon.
  3. lol the benefit of being the artist. I get to choose first! *throw hands in the air and do the victory wave* Okay added Ronberku as armorer! Hmpf! I don't need to take this from you. I'll make my own drawing...And it will have clowns and all...And cake! You'll see, it will be great! Better than yours! *runs off pouting like a 10-year old boy* Jokes asides lol. I was going to make one so it's all good. Too bad we don't have (m)any female roegadyns around to fill a spot
  4. On another note though...That's a LOT of servers! I guess S-E is confident enough to think that tons of players will be playing FFXIV:ARR. Or perhaps the amount of pre-orders made them come to this conclusion lol
  5. I guess we were right. Balmung stays Balmung. I also approve of them going with NA/EU servers. At least it avoids all europeans from blindly mass streaming into the EU servers.
  6. Lol damn. I wanted to instantly volunteer for the blacksmith spot. I guess either armorsmith or miner works for Ronberku. I'll volunteer for armorsmith. But I don't mind being swapped for miner if you prefer it or someone else want it.
  7. GW2 has a weird RP scene, to me at least. There's one type of RP that's super public and popular (human nobility RP - it's all over DR on Tarnished Coast), and then everything else is very guild-centric. At least that's how it seems from my perspective. Nah, you're right. The human nobility rp was everywhere at DR, even on Piken Square. It was that or bar roleplays.
  8. Interesting idea. You can count on Ronberku as a future loyal client to attend every event *insert foreboding sound*! Unfortunately, Ron is not much of a performer. (Unless he's so drunk that he starts a chippendale strip act...)
  9. I'm very envious of everyone's cintiqs. I want to buy me one of those but the damn price tag on them is just...ugh. Also some very nice looking working stations. I'll post a screenshot of mine when I'm home.
  10. You do not want a kissing booth with my character around lol. Jokes asides. I really love this idea. One of my old ffxiv linkshells used to do crafting fairs in uldah where everyone could join and place crafting requests or have their gear fixed. This was off course not in a roleplay manner. This could definately be a fun way for roleplayers to gather. Crafters could exchange information or simply taunt the competition. And I want a drinking competition! With that said. Own contribution. - Drinking competition.
  11. I lol'ed at the chat log in that screenshot. You do not talk back to Nael! Ever! That and running up stairs in his presence. DEFINATELY, don't want to do that. Crazy man and his 9999 insta-kill hit.
  12. Holy s-! That was awesome Shippuu. Always thought your art style reminded of the oriental brush style. But you clearly was aiming for it . Stop being so awesome with your art already lol!
  13. Oh wow! Both the portrait and the creature looks really good. Myllor has this real confident look in his eyes. You've improved quite a lot over the time. Always thrilling to see artists grow and become better over time.
  14. What I really loved about it all, were the many discussions on the forum and in linkshell chat when people noticed for the first time how the lesser moon had become slightly bigger. While S-E kept their mouths shut during 1.19 and 1.20. People were going "I'm sure it's bigger than before." while others were that sure until pictures popped up but we were still left in the dark as to what it meant. Nael Van Darnus controlled by a GM began popping up at one of the camps at Thanalan(outside of uldah). And telling his prophecy. Over time things began to slowly but surely become clear. People going crazy on the forum(in a manner of speak) when patch 1.21 was released and we finally caught a good glimpse of dalamud descending. It was just awesome afterwards to see it become larger and larger. And all the fights leading to the final confrontation with Nael. That I also recorded and placed on my youtube channel. Anyway some screenshots to show some of the things that happened during the final stages. Meanwile Aysun was in her Inn. Safe and Warm. During the final battle lol. (Check chat log on the last screenshot )
  15. I hate to use the term artifact armor for this but it was the best thing I could come up with. Basically the official site has been updated with info about the crafting and gathering classes with a picture to show off their armor. http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/game/armoury Might not be so interesting for some people but I'm happy to finally see how blacksmith armor looks like. Considering I was curious if I wanted my character to use it IC. And I can safely say, that he will.
  16. OMG!!!!! I completely missed this topic and decided to take a look. Only to find this awesome drawing of Ron!!! I'm honestly speechless. And it's the first time that I see my character drawn by someone else! This one deserves to be on my wiki profile for sure. Everyone on this forum is so much more talented than me <3.
  17. I thought I had made one a long time ago...Guess I was wrong. Not really that elaborate but I hope it's enough. I. Basic Info Characters: Ronberku Vantarius Primary character: Ronberku Vantarius Background and character info: Wiki profile Linkshells: none Primary RP linkshell: none II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Mostly medium and might go to heavy over time. Depends on how much I will actually roleplay. Views on RP combat and injuries: I'll be honest. I don't like combat RP when it comes down to duels between people due to many bad experiences with it. I tend to care little about winning a fight. Instead, I find greater enjoyment in creating a battle that puts Ron in a corner. But experience told me that people don't like losing or tend to make fights one-sided. Views on IC romance: I actually enjoy IC romance. Mostly to blame due to my great FFXI roleplay experience where my character ended up having a long relationship with another character. However, I create a clear line between IC and OOC/Real life. This for anything related to roleplaying for that matter. That said, I really prefer a romance that only forms after a while nothing too hasty. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): I enjoy any form of roleplay from simple tavern roleplays to outdoor travels and exploring. That said, I need diversity in my roleplay. I don’t like sticking to that one city/region for long period of times. Town and cities are a good way to start things but I prefer those things to lead to other zones and places. My character is also made with that idea in mind. He’ll either wait for clients or random to request something from him. Or he’ll be the one seeking aid to gather a particular ore, animal hide or any rare material. Ron doesn’t have any relatives left, so there’s not much to talk about that subject. I do hope he’ll make friends and rivals over time and create ties with them. Views on lore: I attach a lot of importance to the lore. Even though my character’s background might contradict this at times. But I’ll be editing smaller parts as time goes on and more things are revealed. Basically, no weird hybrid races. Supernatural powers and the likes. This was something my FFXI ls back in the old days suffered from. I don’t mind things that are not mentioned in the lore but are possible, like other existing tribes or villages. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): I prefer roleplaying in /say but I don’t mind doing so in /party. I tend to keep linkshell for random chatting and OOC, much like whisper. Although sometimes I use whisper to actually whisper something to a person IC. Especially when surrounded with other roleplayers. III. Other Info Country:Belgium, Europe Timezone:GMT+1 Contact info: Just send a pm here or a whisper ingame. I only give my skype to people I want. I don’t like random adding.
  18. Just awesome!!! I love how you've drawn Alothia. Also the way that you managed to convey their personality through gesture, expression and face is something I simply admire in your style. I need to get off my lazy ass and start drawing people. (Besides the face sketches I did of Tim'a and Alothia in my sketchbook...)
  19. Thanks a lot for those translations CJ! I'm really liking the options for facial emotes. I wonder how "confident" looks like. And they even added one for pain. Beta phase 3 can't come any sooner.
  20. Well that's mildly frightening. I know how angry gamers can get whenever they have to deal with a "noob". As hard as I try to understand everything, it's a little worrisome that I might be be joining an entire world of players who will consider me an idiot lol. No need to worry about it. FFXIV community has always been more mature than most other games. And there will be plenty of other new players joining. What I'm more afraid off is the sudden "server is full" message. Preventing people to join it.
  21. Something that pleasantly surprised me during the live letter. Facial emotes for characters. Yoshi-p even mentioned that it is something useful for the roleplayers. Makes me wonder what the other facial emotes are. But I really appreciate it that Yoshi-P and the crew even thinks about minor details like this to add to our immersion.
  22. You can still join the legacy servers. The tag is there for new players to realise that they're joining a server with 1.0 people. Which means a server filled with people that have tons of gil and all kinds of equips. Basically a big warning sign for the new players. But you can still join them
  23. A bit cliché but it really suits him the most. Also looked for a picture that suited Ron's playful nature.
  24. Two words... I know one word already that describes Ron but I don't know which second word truely fits him. But let's go with... Ronberku: Honest pervert I picked honest because he's straightforward and not really a bad man once you get to know him. Even though he's not that honest with his own feelings at times.
  25. GW2 is the only game I feel comfortable to suggest. Like Darkfae mentioned the RP community over there is still pretty much alive and kicking. Although it's either city/tavern roleplay or guild events that are usually posted on the main page by day.
