Ok, I think we're veering away from the status here. The problem isn't in individual characters, take each one seperately and yeah it makes sense why they're fearless, but the society as a whole. We have so many big damn heroes/incredibly powerful people walking around, so many people who don't care. That what is supposed to be the minority lore wise, definitely is not represented in the player base. The problem is that you cannot set rules down to this, you can't tell someone they can't be fearless or powerful because there are already enough of those, that comes from the roleplayer themselves.

The Tonberry's Blade (New story in the works)
That_NPC replied to That_NPC's topic in Chronicled Connections
Cast is full, now the scheduling part. (Update in OP) -
--As a general rule I can't stand when people talk about their characters. I get it, they're special to you and powerful in their own regard but not too powerful because they have this tragic thing, and they're just going through so much right now and... -- This is the main reason I play NPCs, I love seeing characters be special, but I hate being talked at about why they are. --Biggest pet peeve is when you take abilities from somewhere else into whatever setting you're in. Give me a reason to believe it would exist at least. Don't just say "I can do this." --I lied. Biggest pet peeve is when you try to make me sympathetic to your character's plight. Or try to apologize for them. "Well my character would..." Yes I get that. but guess who made them that way. You. --Blatant disregard for in game authority for whatever reason is a big way to get me to just walk away. If you're that powerful you're boring, and if you aren't that powerful a police force, corrupt or otherwise should be a bit intimidating. --Positive confession! I end up deleting and remaking my characters a lot because they just aren't quite perfect.

The Tonberry's Blade (New story in the works)

Thank you. Sorry did it late last night so poor choice in forum placement. -
-People die e'ery day here in Ul'dah, what's so strange 'bout these ones? I tell you what's so strange 'bout these un's just sit and listen a spell. Tain't a man killin' em! Ain't a woman neither! I tell you what it was. Tonberries. Never heard of 'em? Green buggers what done come from some sunken hovel up in La Nossia! Stand 'bout 5 falms high with a a lantern in one hand an' a knife almost 2 falms long in the other! Go around skulkin' after dark, just lookin' for their next victim. Twas always safe to not be alone after dark, now doubly so. What? You don't believe me? Well go have a look fer yourself you smarmy bastard, and see. Ain't no valuables taken from the corpses, and they were riddled with stabbin's. Just look you'll see. --Steet Ear Going to be starting up a story here soon, throwing out an interest check for now. Be a regular weekly thing until it wraps up time and day tba, but leaning towards Fridays currently or sometime in the Pacific time around noon. We'll see. Details! (because everyone loves those) Light on combat Realism factor closer to the Dresden files, obviously this is Eorzea, but we're not playing Naruto over here. Story focused, Character Driven. For more information reply to the thread (preferred so the answer can be seen by everyone), Send me a PM, or find me in game (Whispering Storm). Looking for a smaller group (Between 4-6 people) who want to be involved, and while the story will not be closed it will be focused on those people. 1) Sin 2)Roustabout 3) Jebus Krist 4)War Siren 5)Arkamas 6)Yvon Edmont 7) Reima Yes I know the list is longer but now comes the fun part. Scheduling. I personally have a bar schedule so any day before around noon PST is best time to start for me, we can do evenings on my days off, but those are very likely to change based on how my boss is feeling that week. So assuming we go around noon PST what day works best for you guys?

This right here seems to be one of the most difficult factors of walk up RP. Idea Differ to the person's being challenged's rules. At that point if you don't like how they fight, don't fight them. And if its that big of a deal, you probably don't want to RP much with them anyway. Alternatively the winner of the dice roll gets to factor in the physics of things, part of the risk you run with RP over the internet with randoms is dealing with people with different reality views. Worst case scenario, agree to disagree and walk away. If you were involved in a story which caused the conflict, use it as a lesson for what should be communicated beforehand,

Whispering Storm, the neighborhood NPC would like to be a part of this LS for obvious reasons.

Yes. In two different ways. 1) The things most people notice, where you start treating in like a job and less like a game, stress gets involved, and all that jazz. But more importantly 2) You're involved in so many things your character starts fracturing, could be you have to set time limits on RP (almost always a bad idea) because you have another one to visit. Or your character starts to change drastically because of multiple storylies going on at the time. So yes, easily. And most people don't notice its happening until its too late.

Also for previous question that I almost missed, the rules and force we're talking about here, everyone has their own idea about what it means for a character level to influence character power. At the end the best we can do is agree to disagree. But we've all run into people that have the mentality of "this is what my character can do and you just have to deal with it." Hell I used to be one of them
-
For sure, otherwise someone would have done it already. But that's my extent to RP, especially with this bag of cats mentality, I can adhere to your rules and interpretations of lore. But I try pretty hard not to do walk ups. A big part of this though is my background coming from years of DMing table top roleplaying games. As someone mentioned before, kinda interesting to hear the different viewpoints based on background.

I really want to hit somewhat related, but really its only so people have a general idea of how things work in this world (Don't want people saying that they're using flare every 3 seconds) But, otherwise its not necessary. I'll admit I have a harder time taking people with the beginner outfits seriously when claim to be powerful warriors/mages. But as long as the RP is good, its all fine. But that's player experience, don't expect someone to play something powerful when they don't understand the rules here. But that's true for every roleplaying game, and video games have the nice advantage of a level that shows just how experienced you are at a glance.
-
For what it's worth, this is a big reason I advocate running storylines rather than mostly open world RP. You can't control everyone, and that's just how it is. You can however, know what you're getting into when you go to table (DnD session style) Sure its a little less spontaneous. But you want to be the villain? That's communicated from the start, all that's there. Also really cuts back on the slice of life RP which is nice to me.
-
Honestly, the idea of a "noble house" RP sounds phenomenal. But the main problems would be 1) The number of people wanting to play nobles outnumber the rest 2) Without a story it just becomes higher class slice of life which feeds problem 1 3) The difficulty of finding a common ground rule. But really, the idea is amazing, and its things like this that made me start being an NPC. Would love to see it happen.

I guess also contact me here as well.

Tired of living in a world full of big damn heroes? Ever wonder what it would be like to play more of a background role, the streetear, the server, the guard on (completely honest) routine patrol. NPC (and the connected free company For The Story! [NPC] was made with this in mind. If you just need a place to park your alts, or a place to keep in contact with scenes you'd be needed in, this would be the place. Contact Whispering Storm in game if interested, usually OoC unless on a job (it'll be obvious)

Thread/storyline being put on hold for a bit. Maybe indefinitely. Just losing interest in RP in this game. Still going to be playing though so might come back eventually. -

If he's phased by the threat it doesn't show. "Haven't you ever heard the saying about the flies and honey? You're right of course. This is the closest I'll have to a fortress, the guards are my guards. I yell and they'll come check out what's happening. I'm slated to be executed, so threats of death won't scare me. And while I'm certain you could do all you're saying, you scare me less than those who would harm me if I spoke. So either sweeten the deal, kill me, or be on your way." He folds his arms at his bunk as a cheer can be heard from the guard's at their post. "Someone's lucky at dice today, which means someone else is unlucky. Might want to take their frustrations out on someone." -

Shasharaji eyes the intruder for a bit, although unable to make out much detail. "So let me run this by you. I tell you, and you might kill me, but the Blades will most certainly see to it, if not my debtor. I don't tell you, you kill me and you're none the closer to your information." He turns his back on the man and starts walking back towards his bunk. "If you're to kill me, it would have to be quick, too much noise and a jailer will come investigate." Hopping up to the bunk to sit and look straight at the man again. "So tell me, what do I gain by co-operating with you?" -

If he heard the man's approach he made no note of it, even giving a bit of a start when he arrived at the cell door proper. Squinting his eyes as he looks up at him, trying to make out more details than the light will allow. Giving up he looks down and shakes his head. "Only one kind of person comes into a gaol wearing a mask. If you would though, how much are they paying you? Would like to know how much they consider my life to be worth." He steps back and hops up on to the bed, sitting on the side without looking towards the door again. Down the hallway they can hear the ambience of people talking. Probably the guards in another one of their games. -
By the way, for those wondering no that is not IC armor. As much as I really REALLY want it to be >.>
