  1. Well if you have a race and origin and the like in mind and you want to obey naming conventions, it does not hurt to hit the generate button on character create because it will do just that. If you want something else. Well, that comes with time, I've only come with a handful of acceptable names for my characters over the course of my RP life. and recycled them where they fit. My current go to fantasy name happened to just work REALLY well with final fantasy hyur naming conventions.
  2. For me I have linked my Wiki in my search info and with it included a section of "Common Knowledge" As in things that would be know about your character and who would know it. So for example, if I happened to be a criminal I would put Ul'Dahn citizen would know: -recognize zelmanov by name - possibly recognize by sight - know of recent crimes Ul'dahn brass blade would know -recognize by name - definitely know by sight etc. Find it useful to create RP tailored to you and plus it allows people you just met to roleplay concretely if they are out of their depth while their character is not
  3. Wiki has been created, pictures to come but primary info complete http://wiki.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/pages/Orrin_Halgren
  4. ^ This previous cgi cutscenes follow a clear timeline featuring the affectionately named "Derplander" who possesses the echo. Its a cohesive story following from the Marlboro to the battle over silvertear to cartenau flats. And all have chunks of lore in them that fit into the game. he is a warrior of light and can quite fairly be indicative of the capabilities of a hyper competent adventurer, the same hyper competence that the player character falls into. He is the avatar for our character as he goes from major plot point to major plot point So either Derplander there gets a nice echo blast to a time where you have that AF2 Dragoon or he, as an outside manages to waltz in and wear that armor, regardless, its interesting to speculate
  5. Well I did not know about the multiple gae bolg's but I did know about the armor, but I have seen arguments about AF armor being unique, even when coming to Dragoons, this at least helps clear the air that if you are a dragoon, you can feasibly have a "legitimate" set. Especially when it comes to Ishgardians. Can you link me the thing about a gae bolg is crafted for each azure dragoon?
  6. http://i.imgur.com/qx3CCWs.jpg this picture, look at it, multiple AF gear and Multiple Gae Bolgs.... Dunno what place in the lore AF2 gear has (besides being badass) but it may suggest that Saint Reinette's spear (the spear that Gae bolg is modeled after) May just be a traditional ishgardian design and not a weapon of particular uniqueness in terms of looks. Either way, HYPE HYPE HYPE
  7. **** May under go restructuring depending on how drastically the main story line "Dreams of Ice" upsets currently known Ishgardian Lore******* Quest log prompt: Surely one may have noticed a recent addition to the quicksand, quiet (in words, not in public emotes ) carrying scrolls and drinking copious amounts of alcohol with a seemingly bottomless wallet. All while puzzling out through ancient texts in a habit befitting an Arcanist more than a Lance-wielder. Curious eyes may notice names "Haldrath", "St. Reinette", "Aubric", "Estinien" and finally the last entry: "The 2nd in a generation". To outsiders these names may mean nothing. To those versed in Ishgard's history they will know full well who these people are. Perhaps the nosy will take peek, or perhaps the deserters and refugees of Ishgard will wonder why Observatorium scrolls are out in Ul'Dah, only one way to find out. Accept Decline ________________________________________________ Dragoon is one of 2 jobs where the main story quest says that your job is spectacularly singular and unique, however, the Dragoon stands alone in having the quest claim that not only is it unique but also singularly more powerful than the other rank and file: The Azure Dragoon. (as opposed to WHM being a chosen reincarnate, nothing really states that the particular WHM is any more powerful but that's an argument for a different time) **Dragoon main storyline spoilers** The Azure Dragoon is once a generation, but after the calamity, something unprecedented happen, a 2nd one was chosen, not only that but it was an outsider, an adventurer. Estinian is dead and that adventurer has now disappeared, taking with them one of Ishgard's Strongest weapon against the Dravanian Horde. No one knows who or where that Adventurer is. Some would set out to find that man or woman but this Ishgardian decides that the better choice was to make lightning strike twice, crack the code, find out what made an outsider worthier than all of Ishgard. If two at the same time can happen once, why not again, why not 3, why not 1 for each of the 1000 years of war between Ishgard and the Dravanian Horde. This roleplay will entail going to far reaches of Eorzea, clashing with primals, raiding Dravanian infested holes, evading Ishgardian inquisition, calling out fakers and charlatans. And will attempt to remain only lightly DM'd where possible leads will be brought by participants (red herring in Qarn? why not?) As such I would like to see who would be interested in such an endeavor?
  8. I. Basic Info Characters:Orrin Halgren Primary character:Orrin Halgren Linkshells:Looking for one Primary RP linkshell:Looking for one [*] II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): RP'd back in the old tabletop days, so can go as light or as heavy as the situation demands. However, due to the fact I am creating a character primarily for RP'ing after my raids are done on Behemoth, I may be more casual than what my paragraphs would suggest Views on RP combat and injuries: I am in love with writing out intricate RP combat, Will take as many hit as the enemy is willing the give as long as they take a fair amount in return. Will RP temporary but affecting injuries over a set timescale (like broken bones, ribs, etc) will not do maiming or the like unless for -very- good reason and discussed before hand. Views on IC romance: Romance? Don't think its my character's deal, who knows. As said before, I can RP any direction, if romance happens it happens Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Assuming non romantic is your standard fare "we got a map, let's see what treasure it holds" or "A threat to Eorzea has arisen, come my friends, let us vanquish it" I'm game. Not looking for PC family that is not a direct result of romance at the moment. Views on lore: My views on lore is that it falls to the wayside to a degree for convenience. I won't say you can't be a Warrior, a White Mage, a Black Mage, etc...I -do- take issue with claiming to be -the one- though, like being the Azure Dragoon, the one who helped bring Warriors back, etc. Will also tolerate possession of Echo, member of scions (there are many, even if not part of the "main" group, especially after the formation of the independent grand company), witnessing known NPCs in world or as pivotal points in their character's back story as long as not being the acting agent/directly affecting those known characters (Like seeing f'lhaminn peform her dances before she disappeared, Seeing Curious Gorge in Costa Del Sol, Knowing that Estinien is this generation's Azure Dragoon if you are an Ishgardian). Half Breeds are within reason, same goes for those with the Allagan Eye. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Unless the link shell is specified as to be the equivalent of a text-only rp space, /linkshell is what is being heard over a link pearl. Whispers are either physical whispers, covert actions (which can and may be brought into public, ie: *attempts to take gil pouch* in whisper may have the response come in /say) or the equivalent of having a ham radio and tuning to the right Aetheric channel. 9. You and me both, Mate, seems like there is none. I'm currently in the process of creating a character solely for RP on Balmung because my itch can't be scratched
  10. Thank you for the reply, will I be able to stumble into the gridanian adventurer's guild and find people? I plan lancer to dragoon and as such will be in gridania. have story picked out and all. Would like to hop right into it as soon as the cutscene ends.
  11. Thank you, have been lurking the forums as of late and got very active. I used to be a DnD roleplayer and spent many a time just relaxing in Goldshire in World of Warcraft...Hitting T9, leveling every class and leaving the rest of the week open has left me....well bored really. I missed the interpersonal interactions and was hoping for pockets of RP in Behemoth and found none. asking here and Reddit. I don't want to abandon my raid group or rl friends. So I'll be coming over to balmung on a fresh character....is it hard to locate RP'rs? I heard many are in the adventurer's guilds I also realize that this line of question may lead this to have been more suitable in the RP section and apologies if it does
  12. to my terror to find that there are character creation restrictions...how long do these last?
  13. Thanks for clearing it up, of course there are many interpretations and really you just need to find an rp group that agrees with your views. As said before, there seems to be some lack of belief among the non-adventuring type that clothing actually does anything. But then you get later quests, specifically AF gear for certain jobs that state explicitly that the garb helps channel the energies. whatever the case, I wouldn't see the RP "ilvl" undermining a person's strength, because if Titan has shown anything, all the gear in the world can't save you from being rung out. It just means a stab in the chest that could have killed you..didn't but to each their own, thanks for the insight....
  14. Considering how no one would know of coil barring being a member of the scions of the seventh dawn or knowing the "main character" who drives the story of the main quest (thus being brought along in his or her party of trusted companions) It stands to reason coil loot would be...well, non existent amongst the general populace. Is coil not spoken of in rp? And in general do RP'rs have very specific outfits to avoid Gear/lore conflicts? I mean its already mentioned in lore that aether is infused into armor and that armor can enhance certain attributes, meaning clothing in rp actually can make you stronger or have more stamina...though it seems to be a sort of tongue in cheek (Source: http://xivdb.com/?quest/66235/Color-Your-World) Lest you worry that dyeing will affect your garment's precious properties, you may rest assured it will not. The practicality you adventurers love so much will not suffer for the change in appearance─a change for the better! Stands to little reason as to why only adventurers would be the only ones who care if you could get stronger...so maybe its a placebo? Regardless, how does it stand to play a person with little sentiment for his gear? That he'll toss a piece of tried and true armor away due to being able to ascertain through whatever means that the piece he found on the ground has better properties?
  15. I know that it isn't exactly the server for RP, but my rl friends and the like are there and I am not about to drop a perfectly awesome coil group that's clearing end game content on the regular. I have already checked the RP Linkshells resources in hopes of finding a behemoth one established but see none. Looks like my hopes are slim
