1. Hearing "boy" When he is 28 and most people RP as 18-24 year olds >_>
2. A small little exercise for fun involving one of the few classes which have a dark negative side to them. So your character is in some life threatening situation, things look grim, could it possibly be the end of their long journey? Suddenly a flash of glorious flame, whatever accosted your character is vaporized ash and aether. On some ridge nearby is a black mage in traditional garb, he seems to linger. What do you do? Assumptions made: 1. Your character can tell without a doubt that what just saved you was black magic such as flare. 2. Your Character is aware of the negatives is associated with legends of Black Mage (harms the world around it, etc.)
3. I have already personally experienced a headcanon punt to the nards with the drop of 2.55 due to
4. I fell in love with the concept of Ishgard and the people there so my character bore the traits of those who live there, my reasoning being that the meek and cowardly either cower behind the walls of Ishgard (which means they are not leaving the place any time soon) Or are dead (also not compelling for RP) So Orrin is tough and mastered to reach the age he has while being in a combatant role in a world where death via gangrene may be an issue still (Not entirely sure). Why a Dragoon and not just a knight? Because -really- I like dragoons, ever since FF4, and I've found spears to be my favorite weapon, 2 handed greatswords being my secondary. IC'ly why he has them is because he viewed acceptance as being only found through greatness that would override the initial disgust they have for him. As such he strove for Dragoon, which is arguably the best/most honorable role possible aside from temple knight.
5. I created my character as Ishgardian initially because I thought they were cool (before they were cool) and it so happens with the heavensward expansion and all that I have situated myself in a position to witness history, conflict, adventures, etc. To which I say that if your character is trying to get into plots of some sort. Position yourself in a place where its not a stretch to get a character involved. Do you have relatives that could be harmed by the events of the MSQ going on? I've seen lots of characters with no moms or dads to speak of, no troubling relationships that make life so much more than the selfish wants of a singular, detached entity. Does your character have a duty to someone or to some ideal? These are all good ways to cause conflict and interesting RP. Do not get all too wrapped up in the Quicksands RP, I mean this in the best of ways. In the classic D&D campaign, it always starts at the tavern, you prod the NPCs for rumors and information with your pals and then you LEAVE THE TAVERN to investigate. The Quicksands are a fantastic place to talk, socialize and the like but rarely does greatness occur in a bar. Also, do not be afraid to go along with plots of your friends. You do not always need to be the "Main character" And sometimes, when lacking inspiration to form your own story, it is best to test the waters of your character when greatness is thrust upon them from an outside force. I hope this helps.
6. qbEw9SobgkA **Edit: please take in good humor. This targets no one.
7. Orrin, since gold saucer, IC'ly has 2 casual outfits for climates outside of Ishgard, 1 combat outfit and 2 casual outfits That look more regal for Ishgard. I subscribe by the realism factor that someone would NOT want to be wearing armor 24/7.
8. I use the Fate 14 system devised/adapted by Verad and in one of my qualities I had outline "Thousand malm stare" it can instill confidence and it can intimidate but it leaves him with such a scary resting face that children tend to cry or get very scared of him... Orrin would probably have his ears ringing from incessant wailing. He'd never be asked to babysit again despite best intentions.
9. Need more lore before reply. It seems they are making it so that Ishgardians would not be wary of their draconic appearance. If that is true. Orrin will be...enthusiastic.. that is if he isn't too damn busy kiliing dragons
10. Can I semi hijack this thread to also offer my character as an avenue as well?
11. I am available any day as long as I get a warning ahead of time. According to people I have talked with here is their hours. I shall update it as I get more info V'aleera: Every night until 3rd of may Evangeline: ? Anstarra: My availability this week (in EST): Monday 6pm-midnight Tuesday 6pm-midnight Wednesday 10pm-3 or 4 am Thursday 10pm-midnight Friday 3pm-all night Saturday all day until probably midnight Coatleque: ?
12. Dragoons, especially the Azure Dragoon channel the force of dragons to fight them. They take up the corrupting aspect of dragon's blood to gain their power. You may even notice a coiling dragon around the dragoon at 5:27, which seems to be an off GCD buff. Most likely the questline has further training/mastery of being an Azure Dragoon and may not be things available to the run of the mill dragoon.
13. Orrin Halgren Orrin is a soon to be 29 year old Ishgardian Dragoon of House Fortemps and an adoptive son of nobleman and inquisitor Charloix Halgren. Good at what he does, he still finds something off with Ishgard as a whole recently. Though not one to openly talk about his doubts, he believes he can bring redemption to the nation which he felt has lost its way. My best action shots come from combat moments on my main in Behemoth. Though my Behemoth main and Orrin are identical (used the same creation data). So here are some of my favorites.
14. Title: Chi Game Type: Over the top 3rd person action game akin to Bayonetta/Wonderful 101/Vanquish /Chaos Legion/any shinji mikami game Platform: PS4 ESRB rating: M Plot Summary: Ishgard's got dragons, kill 'em. Speical Moves: Impossibly long and complex moveset akin to Devil May Cry. Enemies: It'd be very monster hunter in the idea of several high skill boss-oriented encounters. Jump, Flip, Stab and combo your way to victory! So Dragons, Other Dragoons (who says he doesn't go rogue with 3.0?), Dark Knights, more Dragons, bigger Dragons. Think every encounter is like Steel Vigil HM's Final boss but faster and flashier!
15. *THIS IS PURELY A SPECULATION THREAD, OBVIOUSLY WE WILL FIND OUT MORE WHEN THE GAME COMES OUT! I STILL LOVE TO SPECULATE!* that said. What's your take on Dark Knights? Are they similar to the rogue's guild? A clandestine group of people who mete out justice in accordance to a code? or is it more Marvel/DC's New York City/Gotham, anyone can be a Dark Knight as long as they put on a funny costume and fight for their version of justice? I personally hope its the latter, it will lead to more nuanced RP, any Dark Knight's "Justice Killing" will have to be scrutinized, will lead to conflict and schisms between Ishgardians and outsiders a like. Some Dark Knights could find themselves more sympathetic to the heretics, seeing Ishgard as too rotten to be saved. the former.... eh, if they run a code, knowing how Square's been at it, their code is going to be, for all intents and purpose, objectively good aligned. So its hard to do conflict beyond "STOP BREAKING THE LAW, ASSHOLE!" And leaves the enemies of Dark Knights primarily to the most lawful of lawful goods. I know Orrin would be a silent supporter in this particular case
16. Orrin is going to be Commissioner Gordon for one very lucky Dark Knight, I guarantee it....
17. flash? AETHER! it literally costs MP, its a form of magick.
18. Orrin will fill for either Gerchon killing or the blind man if spots are available. make me a low priority because I am heading a proactive event
19. It was naught but a moon’s time away from Thanalan and the heat was already unbearable to his Ishgardian sensibilities. The covers were kicked to the foot of the bed in a crumpled, wrinkled pile. Despite being clad in just his small clothes, his recovering body was covered in sweat. He tossed and turned to one side and the other before he shot up, wide eyed, panting. He pivoted so that his legs hung over the edge of the bed, feet pressed against the cold Ul’dahn marble of the inn room. He put a single hand to his forehead and closed his eyes. All he could see was the defiant silhouette, outlined by the sun, as it bared down upon him. He had barely survived that fight. Setting down his lance into the stone of the Steps of Faith, pointing skyward, bracing against it as if in prayer while the front claw of the building-sized dragon fell upon him. When he opened his eyes to banish the vision, he saw what remained of that battle upon his own body. Though unscarred, he was nearly crushed: armor dented in, spear blunted, spikes torn away; the impact resulted in a myriad of blackish-blue bruises, remnants of the internal bleeding he suffered. He remembered his blood seeping through the scales and plate of his equipment. He had been bedridden for nearly a fortnight, barred from combat for days and as soon as the fighting died down he made way back to Ul’dah to finish what he had started. And it was only now that the injuries all but faded away entirely. Yet Orrin could see them still upon the pale skin of his. It was some 20 years ago when Nidhogg last reawaken and laid waste to Coerthas. Orrin was only 8 summers old back then. He was sequestered off safely with his mother and newly born brother behind the walls of the Holy City. It was a luxury that could be afforded by a nobleman inquisitor like his father. He only had tales to go on about the terrible might of the horde. It was said that Nidhogg’s call to chorus blanched the face of men who have been hardened by years of war. That none had seen the true power of the Dravanians until one fought while Nidhogg no longer slumbered. Indeed, it was when Orrin laid eyes upon Vishap at Daniffen’s Collar did he truly understand the battle cry of “banish your fear”. And banish it he did. Vishap fell, corpse consigned to the void beneath the mighty bridge that led to the sea of clouds, vanquished by him along with a veritable army of sellswords and Ishgardian loyalists. However he knew that he and the unit he commanded were lucky, getting away with wounds as opposed to deaths. He had witnessed what was just the beginningof Nidhogg’s fury and he knew full well that Vishap was only the beginning, the prelude to a true baptism by a bolero of fire and claws. It took an army, he reminded himself, a staccato of cannon fire with accents of Dragonslayer cannon, all bolstered by the harmony of spears and arrows singing through the air to fell Vishap. What if a dragon of similar might were to show upon the tear’s concerted destruction? What if it was something bigger? He had no army, only a small band of allies he deemed suitable to orchestrate what he considered a fitting finale. He had to afford every advantage he could for them for he knew not what would come. He needed an area large enough to accommodate the beast, cramped enough to rob it of its flight and movement for the sake of his comrades, and remote enough so that should they die, the dragon’s ire could not fall upon any other settlements of man. His eyes then trailed to the armor neatly piled in the corner. The faint runic glow on the helm of his newly forged Drachen Mail mimicking the selfsame glyph upon the head of the stalwart dragoon statues that acted as protectors of Ishgard’s wards. Gifted by Ishgard, executed skillfully by Camp Dragonhead's own Belldonna Angelimiuex, it was a symbol of his service. It was humbling and empowering all the same. Should he lead these allies and friends into battle, he would not fail them.
20. 3.5 He's a master at Dragoon Arts but I'm not making him the most dragoony dragoon. I've had enough encounters in Verad's roll campaign to show that Orrin tears through NPC's....except for that one damn Miqo'te >_>
21. Live combat from Tera. Nothing was more badass than being lancer or slayer and dancing/blocking around everything
22. Ok, so the Dragoon in the images I linked is found at 4:28 to 4:29 moment, at 4:30 we have an angle change to the Big bad Dragon getting smashed by jump. I think that's the same Dragoon, not a different one and he becomes dragon food. Unless you are talking about the one that leaps at 4:26 being different from the 4:28 one. Which I can understand. Just want to clear up which one you are referring to. So many faceless soldiers, hard to keep track. I'm not even joking. Yes, Warren, I'm talking about at the peak of the jump more so than say on the way up or down...that'd just be flying.
23. since a lot of the technical aspects of fighting already seem outlined, I have this to say: I tend to go by one tenet when it comes to RP combat that DOES NOT have a predetermined outcome. By this I mean fights that are not decided by rolls or are railroaded to a certain conclusion for the sake of a plot. I am talking pure, free form RP combat: Do what is fun for BOTH parties. Your characters may be enemies but you, as players are allies in weaving a compelling story for both you and whoever is standing by watching. You may enjoy being an unstoppable juggernaut but your opponent will not. Same goes if it were the other way around. There will be a give and take. Be concise with your actions and state your intentions clearly as to what is going on so your opponent can react appropriately. You can use pretty words and colorful narrative as long as it is clear what is being done. If you are unsure as to the scale of the combat, be sure to suss it out OOC or mirror their combat style. This is how I at least, avoid power-creep/escalations. If someone is up for a bar brawl RP, don't bring out the blackmage flare. Winning the fight is not the goal of free form RP combat most of the time. You may intend to do whatever to another character but that person has the final say on what happens to them. Same goes for you. you will meet people that, no matter how well or well reasoned your attack is made to be, will dodge or dance or manmode their way through. Be ready to reconcile any perceptions of your character being undefeatable/never picks a fight they can't win right now. __________________________________________________ These guidelines should result in fun for both parties. Its almost like a ERP *Ahem*.
24. The midair thing was in reference was this scene here http://i.imgur.com/3ptCSA2.png?1 to here http://i.imgur.com/OBUuSYm.png?1 which looked like to me as a straight leap up then a sudden change of angle of attack upon the big bad dragon. I'm willing to debate the veracity or lack of. And yes, I thought that first scene was first the Dragoon tagging the dragon and the dragon killers doing their job afterwards because those looked like explosions rather than say, landing dragoons.
