RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Medium/Heavy. I prefer full story roleplay and meaningful connections over one shot meetings. I like character development whether it be friends, foes, or connections. Views on RP combat and injuries: I enjoy TO combat and don't mind any RP injuries (so long as permanent ones are talked over first). Views on IC romance: I'm all for IC romance so long as the romance and interactions make sense to the characters and their personalities. Things have to feel right within the rp, and not forced for the sake of the romance. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): 200% for it. Give me all the friends, all the foes, all the family's, and all of the drama that comes along with it. Views on lore: I don't mind if the lore is tweaked or bent for the sake of the entire story and not for the sake of a super character. As long as things remain realistic within the laws of the world. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): I typically use /say and /em when role-playing. III. Thank you all for your advice. I new there was much to go into it. I will hold on actually hosting it until I go over a check list and see examples of how it's done first hand!! Thanks so much

Hello Fellow Rpers. First off, if this is in the wrong thread, please let me know and I'll be happy to move it to the corresponding thread. So, As the title states, I have never hosted or created an RP storyline within the game, but I do want to attempt to. This is basically a cry for help asking for any tips/tricks/advice to those who have hosted an RP event/storyline. I feel kind of lost and don't know where to start. Please, any help would be appreciated. Some preliminary information/questions: I do not have any fermented Roleplay connections within the game currently, so it will just be me trying to set this up. When thinking of a story line, would you typically say it is better to have the beginning/middle/end planned out from the get go, or would it be better to just have a concept and let the rpers take it from there? How effective would it be to have player made NPC's play integral parts into the story line? as I said I don't have many friends online and this is one way for me to make some (hopefully). Would it be too weird? Would it be better to try and find people to fill some of the roles? If you weren't planning one with friends, how would you go about advertising, to get random people interested? In chat? Or maybe Pf? Please, any and all help will be appreciated!:D

Question about the Scholasticate and their studies.
SolaceWinds replied to SolaceWinds's topic in Lore Discussion
Thanks guys so much!! Really appreciate the responses and the information!! -
Hello all. I'm role-playing as someone who spent time studying at the scholasticate, but for the life of me I cannot remember the name of the books they normally read. If anyone has knowledge of, or can point me to a reference area for their studies, books, and some of the quotes used or reference when doing quests pertaining to the Scholasticate, that would be really appreciated!!!

Looking for some cool RP connections to have fun with. A little about my character: 23yr Elezen male. He came into the world as a lowborn, but was adopted my the Tremoille's, who are loyal to house Haillenarte, to play as personal Steward to the Lord's daughter when he was young. Takes their last name. He loves to indulge in reading and studies, learning as much as he can. Has three brothers, one sister. Is currently traveling with the Lord's daughter to learn all there is to know about the world beyond the snowy Gates of Ishgard. His dream is to one day become a Sharlyan Scholar, and to help bridge the gap between lowborn and high born. Interesting Plot points. House Haillenarte/Tremoille/Noble connections Attended and graduated from the Scholasticate. Spent a lot of time reading and studying within various libraries in Eorzea. Has four siblings: Three brothers, One sister. He is one of the middle kids. Has been known to pay a fair amount of (IC) gil for any knowledge, books, or documents brought to his personal library. Double if they are of Sharlyan culture. Us stewards have to stick together!! If anyone at all is interested in playing a sibling, here are some minor details:The parents put Landrenel out, because he was openly against their hatred for high born (they were extremists like that). Parents were apart of a lowborn resistance, against the unity of the lowborn and highborn. They have been currently doing time the past 7 years for allegedly conspiring to take out a noble man. Whether or not the other siblings followed their teachings, or remained in the Brume will be up to the player. First and last names can be up to the player, but say why (just cause is a valid excuse) I figured that would be easier than possibly trying to get however many people to use the same last name, also don't want to lock in people. Example: Landrenel uses the last name Tremoille simply because that is who raised him for the last 16 years of his life. Also, He would have not seen any of the siblings for the past 5 years, just to create some "Hey, what's been going on" starter conversation. My in game name is Landrenel Tremoille. My Library is located in the Mist, 6th ward. Tompast Subdivision, apt 34. I will most likely be on all day, but if you do not see me, feel free to send me a message here. Hope to see some of you in game as friends .

This Introvert Needs some advice/Thoughts
SolaceWinds replied to SolaceWinds's topic in RP Discussion
Wow, thanks for all of the Replies. Kilieit has most of the right of it. I do spend TOO much time with the idea of continuity to have even guessed to apply any of those tactics. I think too hard about these things. I don't think it would be too much of a problem getting in with my free company if I ease up on the thinking. I was just worried about joining them and it not being 100 percent logical, but I will forgo this thinking and see how it all works out. I will try with people I am Familiar with before trying with random stranger. Thanks again for all of your advice, and the links too, that was really helpful!! Freelance Wizard I will take you up on that invitation next time I'm free to do so. Might try some of these tactics on you haha. See how well I do with casual conversation. -
So I've been on for a couple of years now and have accumulated a total of...one...RP friend. I'm in a free company atm. I don't have a problem with people that's stopping me from RPing, but I think it's my lack of social inexperience. I always think that there needs to be some underlying reason as to why my character is interacting with another character (I think this is mainly because I myself don't usually speak unless I'm 1) Spoken to or 2)Have a reason to speak to that individual). So, casual conversations and "Walk up Welcome" always bugged me out because I just think "What logical reason would I have to walk up to this random person and speak, without knowing anything about them?" and then I am put off from doing anything. When it comes to my free company, I find myself always coming in whilst they are in the middle of a story arc, all the characters are up to date and pretty much everyone knows whats going on. The same question "What reason does my character have to walk into a random situation he knows nothing about helping people he doesn't really know?" I've been with them some time but I have RP'd maybe once for about 15 minutes in that time span. How are people able to get their characters going with new individuals? I find it a difficult task to do without having to go over a complete pragmatic reason as to why our characters would speak to each other and what would keep them speaking to each other. Any advice? From anyone? Anywhere? If you were once the introverted/socially awkward/shy type of rp, have you been able to forgo and bypass that personality trait? And how? Anything is most appreciated. (Note: I have tried to play the overlly social character but I don't think I make a very convincing social butterfly in terms of RP immersion so I steer clear of them.)

Ok so, this may seem like a weird question. Would it be weird for a character to either a) have two professions that are unrelated to each other or b)change from one profession to the other, also which has nothing to do with each other. I know at the end of the day it's more do what you want, but I want to know would it be a natural progression. When you choose an IC profession for your character, do you tend to stick to it all throughout rp, or has your character changed professions naturally (without retconning, having their previous profession still being apart of their history? My character is currently an investigative journalist...which is fun to rp and all, but recent rp events gave me an idea of having him delve into the arts of mercenary. (I think that it would be weird, journalist turned mercenary, but I tend to overthink things a lot).
-
While thay would be a plus, I wouldn't call it a requirement. There's always LS, PF and duty finder for that stuff lol. Quick question, I had plans on renting ICly. So, would the rent be paid ICLY or OOCLY as well. I only say this because I don't currently have a consent flow of gil coming in oocly. The whole renting space would just be an ic reason as to why he would be apart of the free company.

Hello there!! I am looking for an rp guild for my Miqo'te journalist. He is about 27 years old, and has a stand alone (somewhat) newspaper article, where he investigates some of (what he believes) to be the more pressing matter in the world. He is not allied with any free company, and is neutral good. He likes cigars, jazz, and getting the truth out. IC he will be "renting" space, I suppose? But ooc I would like a free company to join. A plus if some of you are into raiding, as I would like to learn. Have just started alexander normal mode to get my feet wet, and would like to move on to bigger baddies. I mainly play every night after 12 pm EST, but can be found on at earlier times throughout the day. If I or My character R'there Matoi sound interesting, please send a /tell if I'm online, or email in game or on the forums!!

Yea, I had thought that maybe it was my style of rp. I was thinking I should change it to cater to the masses. It seems, from my perspective and experience, that bar chatter/random banter/conversation is the more widely popular rp style. I've always felt that every action or conversation must have some underlying meaning. Always felt it hard to grasp the concept of random idle talk. I sought to change that mindset.
-
This, this is precisely the kind of RP that I look for. The kind with meaning. The hard part for me is the random idle chatter, or the first engagement. That's where I tend to fall short. I can remember once I was RPing my characterm having a drink at the bar, and someone walked up and started an ic comversation. After the initial "Hello" I found my character asking "So, is there a reason you decided to come talk to me?" I think that was off putting. I wasn't trying to be rude, just thinking about how to realistically go about it. I just find it unrealistic for someone to just start randomly talking to someone they don't know..about...random things. There must be a reason, right?
-
I see....so if I had created a character whose personality a d thought pattern miniced that of a real person, it would be best if I changed it to something else?
-
First off, I want to say that I hope I'm writing this in the right part of the forums. If not please let me know. It has recently come to my attention that I have a hard time Roleplaying on a more "casual/friendly" level. I'm way to serious about the progression of the story than just.....well rping. I have a hard time having ic conversations with others if the conversation has no purpose. I don't understand /walkups unless my character has some *story driven purpose* to actually walk up to a character. I have most trouble when choreographing the initial meeting between two characters. Questons that arise are "why are they meeting? What purpose does X have to talk to Y? How will this drive/improve upon either story or character development?" This has incidently led to lack of rp friends, and possible the loss of one currently. I would like to learn how to tone down the solemnity quality of role play. I was curious as to whether or not anyone would have any tips/tricks/exercises I can practice in which I can accomplish this.

R'theqe was exiled from his tribe, after taking the blame for murdering a member of a rival tribe, which goes against their peace treaty. He then traveled the land, hoping to make it day buy day by pit fighting and mining, though after some unfortunate losses and events, (which caused him to "lose" and eye, he's trying to just slow down, going a friend of his can help him get back on track.

balmung Sharlayan Miqo'te LF RP connections & friends!
SolaceWinds replied to oko's topic in Chronicled Connections
I have a character who might interest you. He's an Ishgardian lowborn turned retainer to a (player made) noble house. He's absolutely obsseseed with Sharlayan and their intellect and such since he's a book book nerd. His dream is to become someone a philosopher, and he's just beginning his journey as he ventured outside of Ishgards gates to learn anything and all he can. He would love to listen to your characters tale (and may pass out from excitement haha) while jotting it all down in his little journal. -
Philosopher/sage wannabe looking for connections
SolaceWinds replied to SolaceWinds's topic in Chronicled Connections
That'll be more than fine. The point of Philosophy is after all is to view the world from different corners. My character would love to have some chat sessions with her and learn about the history of the world. I'm normally on between 11:00 - and 4 a.m. and should be on tonight if you're around -
Philosopher/sage wannabe looking for connections
SolaceWinds replied to SolaceWinds's topic in Chronicled Connections
I'd be more than interested in it. I normally play between the hours of 11 p.m. - 4a.m. est. I can give you a little bit more in Landrenel as well if you're interested. -
Looking for RP connections that dabble in any variety of intellect (from sorcery to politics to history...whatever) who might be interested in playing a teacher/mentor/associate to a young Elezen male ready to learn! He grew up in Ishgard only able to read books, and now that he's able to freely roam he's ready to travel and learn about all the things he's read about. If this interests you you can send me a pm here or a pm/tell in game. Character name is Landrenel Tremoille.

Is this too farfetched of an idea? I was thinking of having my character fuse his arrows with the magical elemental properties (lightning, ice, fire). Like he was a Thaumaturge, but instead of using staffs he uses arrows from his bow. I don't think it would be a problem (considering bow and arrow is a skill that can be learned by anyone) but I just wanted to ask around, to make sure.

The story and idea of this FC seems interesting enough. I'd like to see about joining it, but would first like to ask a little bit more about the Company both ICly and Oocly. I will look out for you in game, or if you prefer to message hate, that would be ok as well.
