  1. I'm 24, I started RPing when I was around 11 or 12 with a D&D game that was held at a local geek store. I've done most formats of role play since then; table top, forum, IM, LARP, and MMO. FFXIV 1.0 was my first attempt at MMO RP, and it was awesome, which is why I'm back! :moogle: When I was really small people said I had a knack for writing, because of that I've taken a lot of writing classes and even used to be an English major, before I decided I liked drawing pretty pictures for games more.
  2. I'll probably be there, fearless leader. If I can get Mali far enough in time, 30-35 MRD showin' up.
  3. why not????!!! You and Gerik could form a studly male small clothes posse! ... assuming you meant Tivahlt of course... cute kitty! *offers Pie* BACK TO TOPIC! *coughs* Great listing, Calli! Thanks! I didn't get a chance last Beta to tinker around with crafting... but very much looking forward to doing so. I'm the same way- try to be pretty self-sufficient, but creative too. Oh no no, the only one who would be worried about having clothes would be Mali. Tiv will run around in smallclothes just because it's hot...or he's showing off...or he's bored...
  4. This is a really cool idea and I would love to help if I can. I think if you can at least get a "light party" of players then you should be able to get through almost anything. The only problem with having other players involved would be the first fifteen levels, since if you wanted a full party (tank, healer, and two DDs) that means that at least one person, if not two or more, will be somewhere else. Starting in U'ldah you would be out a healer, Gridania you'd lack a tank, and Limsa Lominsa you wouldn't have any DDs. It's a minor issue but one that would still be problematic. If you still want to do this with other folks I have all of the stuff for helping out but the availability. If it is done for a few hours on specific days then I can better adjust my schedule to fit. Excluding sudden acts of real life, of course. Daily is more difficult for me because I have some things that I can't get out of, such as classes and their deadlines when fall rolls around. Luckily (or unluckily?) I don't have a job or anywhere to be on a regular basis sans the aforementioned classes, so I still have a reasonable amount of time on my hands. If it helps any I actually have a really good mic, I bought it for a radio play I'm working on so it has a good sound to it, very clear and rarely picks up background noise.
  5. If they don't keep PIE as a culinarian stat in 2.0 I am going to cry. IT'S JUST TOO PERFECT. On topic, this is a great guide and I will definitely be using this as a starting point when I start crafting and don't want to run around in my skivvies.
  6. I have two legacy 1.0 characters, both fairly high leveled (one is 50 MRD/WAR and the other 30 THM because I didn't get to play him much before I ran out of time and money to play >: ) but only one is going to be an actual Warrior of Light, and she is most definitely not going to be proclaiming it to the world anytime soon. If anything she'd rather forget the whole thing, given the giant mess it's made for her. I would also agree that Warriors of Light are not as rare as some would believe, as they are specifically adventurers who were at the battle of Carteneau and were sent forward in time by Louisoix. Since it is already established that all 1.0 characters, legacy or not, have the "mark" from being sent forward, it can be assumed that every adventurer PC that was at the battle was sent forward by the spell. I don't know about you, but that sounds like an awfully big number, even if not all of us 1.0 players are claiming our characters to be W's of L. To Meine: I believe there is an option to turn your back tattoo off or on, so if you don't want your characters to be marked and flung forward through time then you can just turn the tattoo off and never have to worry about it. That's what I'm doing for my character that wasn't at the battle but is still a 1.0 character, just turning the tattoo off and acting like it never happened. I'm not even going to touch the memory issue. I've already said my ideas on the thing in other threads, but everyone has their own theories and until SE gives us something more concrete, we're pretty much just grasping at straws.
  7. Haha, don't you just love when that happens? Sometimes inspiration can come from just messing around in the character creator. He looks great, by the way. Looks like someone you would have tea with while discussing classic literature.
  8. I made this cutey to play with someone who was making a Lalafell, but now I kind of want to keep him. I've already got ideas forming in mah brains...
  9. 1. I had two 1.0 characters. One is being remade as someone similar but different enough that it's a new character, and one is technically getting a sex change, but he had always been male, it was just the character model that had boobs 2. I don't find it weird at all, mostly because I do it! I have one female and one male character, and I like playing both of them. Honestly I feel more awkward playing the female character, because it's hard to not make her act like me.
  10. Relevant to both of my characters: I think I have the same dead parent syndrome as Disney...but anyway.
  11. But are you THE GODDAMN BATMAN? yes. Oh. Well okay then. Carry on. Always a good line. It's a shame that the comic that line comes from was a huge piece of shit though. You're better than that, Frank Miller. I agree. It's such an iconic line, but it's from one of the worst takes on the series. Seconded, but Hellboy is still my #1.
  12. But are you THE GODDAMN BATMAN?
  13. You are not alone in the FXIII love. I think most people disliked the first few hours (ERMAHGERD HALLWAYS) and quit before they got to the actual meat of the story (which I will admit, is a very bad design flaw. I'm not a full-fledged game designer yet and even I know that was a bad call on SE's part) but the graphic designs, the character development, and the amount of detail put into the world and its lore was fantastic. Also, not alone on the Hope hate. I actually do have XIII-2, but I still haven't played it...the fact that I took it out of the wrapping at some point is a miracle in itself.
  14. There are no words. It's too awesome. I usually have character themes, but I haven't really thought about it for my FFXIV characters...I will definitely get back to this after scouring my collection.
  15. I was in the "not sure if want" group before I saw this GIF. I have been swayed. Well played sir. (And if nothing else, the weapons look bad ass!)
  16. It's mentioned in the beginning of the THM quest line that some people have more natural talent for magic while others have none at all...perhaps the people who get aether sickness (us) are ones that are naturally inclined to the aetheric arts (since all PCs can learn magic, and in the storyline spoilers spoilers spoilers) and therefore have some kind of reaction to larger concentrations of the stuff until they acclimate to the new aether levels, like your altitude sickness example. On topic, I'd probably also go with your earlier ideas for the most part. I would imagine that if you know a basic type of magic (fire, healing, water, etc.) then you can do more mundane things with it, but not necessarily different things with it. For instance, someone who knows water can create water to clean themselves off after a bloody battle, but might not be able to separate water from another substance (like poison) as that requires some pretty delicate re-workings of the fabric of time and space. In essence, if it is part of the original spell's function (to create something through magic, be it a bolt of lightning or a blast of fire) then it can theoretically work, but trying to manipulate what is already there would be different. Of course, I always go by the rule of "if it's underpowered and ultimately does not change the game itself, go ahead and do it." So if you were a Thaumaturge that can cast Firaga and just wanted to make the room a few degrees warmer, I'd roll with it. I also agree that skills from DoW classes aren't inherently magical, but being the special snowflakes that we are we can unconsciously manipulate a small bit of aether to augment our physical skills. Otherwise, I have no idea how I can throw my axe at an enemy and still have it.
  17. I'm Balmung-in' it up, mostly because that's where my legacy characters are. I'm already splitting my time between one RP server and a non-RP server (Midgardsormr, with my old FFXI crew) so trying to do both RP servers AND Midgard just isn't going to happen. I think in either case there will be a good collection of unaffiliated players to sweep up into your FC, but if you primarily want new characters then you should probably go to Gilgamesh as technically everyone will be new there, even previously established ones.
  18. I guess I'll say Mali is my main for now...she has an actual LS to party with, after all. To be fair, Tiv is another male Miqo'te, but I was playing male Miqo'te before it was cool! /hipster This does give me ideas for more alts, though...
  19. Haha, it's times like these when I remember why I love you guys. Here are some for Mali and Tiv, although they are by no means comprehensive...yet.
  20. Just because the term was used for a small band of adventurers in the original Final Fantasy does not mean it is the same here. We still have the iconic summons, the moogles, the chocobos, and lots of shout-outs to prebious games, but the details of what they are and how we interact with them are unique to this game. For instance, in earlier games Ifrit was just a bit of magic, it had no detailed origins or reasons for existing, it was just there. In FFX it was a collection of human souls coalescing into a physical form for a summoner to use. And here in FFXIV, it is a dark "god" that requires the faith of its beastmen (and the people they convert) in order to stay on the physical plane without returning to the Aether. The characters in the openings are merely "mascots," not real characters (unless one of you has seen that specific group as NPCs, in which case I will bake you a nice batch of cookies) because the player is meant to be the protagonist of the game. From what I've read in the game while playing it, here's what I know about the Warriors of Light and the issues surrounding them: The Warriors of Light are implied to be the people with the Echo (a.k.a. 1.0 characters) who fought in the final battle and were transported through time by Louisoix. This is used in game to explain why all 1.0 characters still exist from an out of game perspective. All 1.0 characters have also been "marked" on their backs by the experience, which you can see in screenshots of 1.0 characters. All 1.0 characters also experience the story differently as if they were transported through time, as stated by Yoshi P. himself. If that doesn't qualify them as the Warriors of Light, then I don't know what else possibly could. People (NPCs) who were not at the battle but had experiences with the WoL still remember that they existed and that they did things, but their memories of what happened during and immediately after the battle are fuzzy and while they remember the Warriors of Light as people that affected their lives, they cannot remember their names or faces. It's kind of like remembering someone you knew when you were a small child, you know they were there and the basics of what kind of relationship you had with them, but the details have been lost. People who were at the battle (the Grand Company leaders) but were not teleported still remember the battle itself, they just cannot remember the details of who the brave warriors were, in the same vein as the other NPCs. With the amount of story we have been given in phase 3, we haven't yet seen what happens with anyone who was related to one of the Warriors by blood or friendship, which is why this is a conundrum. Personally, I don't have an answer because Square Enix has not given us one. We just don't know how strong "the power of love" is in Eorzea, so we can't say for certainty what would and would not be remembered by people who were closely related to one of the Warriors. If it were me, I would play it as they have amnesia+. They still can't remember the specific details (like exactly how they looked, or how their name was spelled) but they can remember what kind of relation they had to them and how they interacted with them up until they disappeared/died. If they ever met them again, they could fill in the gaps they don't have and regain that closeness with them, but because of the time distortion it will always feel a little different. Anyway, my two cents. EDIT: Herp derp Black beat me to the punch. WHY DO I TYPE SO MUCH.
  21. This first part feels like a jab to Batman or Spider-Man. And no, as a huge fan of both I'm not going to flip out on you and start nerd raging. I actually half agree about that. With the wrong writer, Batman can easily turn into a humorless drama queen, but it's not always the case. Writers like Jeph Loeb, Grant Morrison, and most recently Scott Snyder have all done the Dark Knight justice. More ancient ones like Denny O'Neil, Alan Moore, and Frank Miller have done their part as well, but you do have a point. Get the wrong writer on some more human dark characters and they just become a bunch of cry babies. About the Wolverine movie. Agreed. Agreed agreed and agreed. Twelve foot tall Hugh Jackman and his band of thugs ruined everything sacred about 5'3 Wolverine. I actually wasn't thinking of Batman at all. I wasn't even thinking of comics, just stories in general, regardless of format. I like Batman...he just isn't my favorite. :<
  22. Well now I can't even reply to this thread because you said everything for me. Except for the inspiration. I wasn't inspired by Hellboy so much as I was overjoyed to find that not only did other people share my love of horror/supernatural and mythology and a dark sense of humor, but they were getting paid for it. I've always been drawn to darker stories with characters that weren't necessarily depressing or brooding drama queens, and still had enough sense to not take themselves too seriously to add a little humor. It's something that has permeated pretty much every single one of my creations since day one. So of course I loved the first Hellboy movie, read all of the comics (from the library, no less. I love this place sometimes), and now I have it in hardcover. === Also, the Wolverine movie ruined everything and everyone involved. Let us speak of it no more, that it might someday be struck from the records of history.
  23. I blame the fixation with cat people on Japan. They do silly things. I could talk all day about societal constructs of attractiveness and their relativity to the desired practical traits of the era but really it just boils down to "Japan is silly" no matter what I do. Doesn't stop me from loving them pretty catboys though. It's the tail and the ears. They look fun to play with. Personally, I like all of the races from an aesthetic standpoint. I've never really let lore dictate which group I like more, so for me it's mostly about the look and feel of the character...and whether I think I can pull it off. As much as I like their visuals, I'm just not good at playing big burly men. Amazonian ladies, on the other hand... That I can do.
