  1. delete character that had unlimited gil, thereby deleting an unlimited amount of gil and creating a currency vortex now forced to recognise and process this negative infinity, balmung's server becomes sentient and starts questioning whether it possesses a soul
  2. survey looked like fun so i filled it out, questions look pretty innocent to me and i'm curious to see how the article ends up - roleplayers are a fascinating bunch
  3. welcome to our new mod, ehre'to lhisniyo!!!
  4. I've let the mods know you want in, so hopefully someone'll be on to catch you soon! sorry! I'll try to get you an invite personally if our timezones align
  5. the most boring characters are those written with the express intent of not being boring - to avoid giving another "do what you want" reply (even though you really should just do what you want) I can list off some questions that I ask myself when I'm first setting up a RP character - maybe they'll help you idk What's the basic, overarching concept I'm aiming for here? Is this workable within the setting's bounds? (don't fuss too much about this but many roleplayers are strict about lore) Can I play this well? (if the answer is no, this isn't a reason to trash the idea - you just might need to learn a bit more) How will this character interact with others? (important - most people don't have a lot of fun rping with themselves) What drives/motivates them? (this is how you find plots!) Will I enjoy playing this in the long run? (this one's very important to avoid burnout!)
  6. this one really can't be emphasized enough, it's gotten more common in more recent days (though i guess it's always held an appeal) for people to loudly announce - even in ooc terms - how much of an utter prick they are, and how incredibly cool this also makes them. used to do that shit myself and worked out at some point it was a terrible, terrible brand. used to be that people made a show of how much of a brain genius they were, now we're seeing a rise in posturing of a different kind - how emotionally resilient they are, and how anyone who won't tolerate their obnoxiousness is either thin-skinned or a tumblrista/ina/whatever or, if they want to be particularly edgy, triggered (because ptsd is fucking hilarious folks) interestingly these types also get pretty indignant if you point this out in a way that doesn't sound as cool as they wanted their shit behaviour to be perceived. people wanna shock, offend, annoy, whatever but a lot of the time they're just totally fucking boring and people around them haven't got the patience to put up with someone who has the outlook and demeanour of a youtube pundit who has nothing new to say under the sun wow that post was longer than i expected, back into my hidey hole

  8. sorted out some kinda duel system which works off the same basic principle but is way simpler for players fighting each other - seems like it could make an interesting alternative to basic grindstone rules? lemme know what you guys think
  9. if you end up running something with it, it'd be cool to know how long it took your players to pick up the system and figure it all out - I tried to make it all simple enough to allow it to be set up minutes before an event starts, mostly because I know that there are plenty of roleplayers who don't have experience doing tabletop stuff
  10. hey guys long time no see. I mentioned offhandedly in one thread I don't remember that I might just offer a combat system to the masses one day - after seeing ravean's posted (and recently updated it looks like) I decided it was about time I put up mine. be warned, it's barely formatted and a bit of a mess - I'll fix up the presentation/amend my rambling at some point. criticism/suggestions are welcome, assuming they're not "delete this immediately" for anyone asking "where's v1?": I never posted it here and I won't because it sucked here it is!!!
