  1. Dark Passenger is only worth it when you have 3 or more enemies and you can line up your shot correctly which would increase your DPS. As far as cross class skills, Freelance has the right of it with Foresight, Bloodbath, Convalescence, and Provoke. Though, most say Bloodbath is a waste but I liked it personally especially when you AoE with Unleash or even single target for burst heals.
  2. I don't think I've had so much fun since I started with Black Mage when the game first launched. I gave up BLM to main DRK and I haven't looked back since. I don't have extensive tanking experience as I only have a 35 WAR, 50 PLD, and now a 58 DRK. I sort of get the feel of being in the middle as I can see and feel some traits from both WAR and PLD that DRK picked up. Im not a long time MMO gamer so I still fumble on the keyboard when doing my rotations but this is how I roll when I'm in the field: Solo play: I don't use Grit as I don't see the need for it otherwise especially if you are a decent player. I've got my training wheel on so I went full VIT since I'm still getting gud but my rotation without Grit is: Plunge > Blood Price > Salted Earth > Blood Sword > Scourge > Hard Slash, Spinning Slash > Dark Arts > Power Slash > Low Blow > Hard Slash > Siphon Strike > Dark Arts > Souleater > Scourge > MP Regen Combo I've found that is mucho bursty and mobs my level are down to 10% easily in which I'll use Sole Survivor when available. When I tank I follow mostly the same combo but include Unleash for mob hugs.
  3. Different strokes for different Devs. With Heavensward around the corner it's likely nothing can be done to accommodate earlier access to jobs. Besides, once Heavensward releases, none of this will matter as we'll all be playing in our little bubble.
  4. Finally got a chance to play around with the character creator. Meet my Au Ra. Simplicity is more, sometimes.
  5. Every time I see a pretty a pretty Au Ra I want/think of a character I seen from ESO named, "Lifts-Others-Tails."
  6. Screens of Au Ra Character Gen: http://ff14net.2chblog.jp/archives/44443304.html Mod note by FreelanceWizard: Adjusted the thread title to clarify this thread's purpose. If you'd like to post your Au Ra's screenshot, you want this thread.
  7. A lot of those are new moves/abilities in the benchmark, I believe.
  8. RGOIF_7vuLw High Def video of the HW Benchmark.
  9. Sometimes, I think roleplayers are a little to self entitled and I think some of the impartiality toward the Au Ra lore is a little ridiculous. So what SE didn't hand the lore on a silver platter to make it easier to RP. They are a business and it is their world, we just pay to play in it. Use your imaginations (and common sense) for the gaps. Does it suck that Xeala are portrayed at sticking it out with their tribe and technically should stay with them? Yep, I'll agree but it's been pointed out that every Catboy, Elf (with amnesia), and Potato can and should have their own agenda. My Xeala will be popping up in Eorzea especially Ul'dah for his own reasons and totally expect to to be looked down upon for jumping on the Auri bandwagon. I just hope for those that play an Au Ra are given their fair chance to RP with anyone rather than dismissed.
  10. 0. Jiji tempered a lizard and it brought forth a new era by accident. True starry.
  11. Everything aside, I almost wish I had a DRG character who taught others to DRG. My student's first real "jump" would be kicking them off the side of an airship and just land safely. We can worry about accuracy later. lol.
  12. For some reason, I want to think that the Archbishop is probably some Elder Wyrm in disguise. That would be rich. RPG's usually have a habit of making religious leaders into big baddies so I'm more than willing to entertain that particular theory as well. I have a feeling that there's more to the war between Ishgard and the Dravanians than meets the eye. Lady Iceheart seemed intent to 'break the cycle' and to make the Ishgardians pay for 'the crimes of their fathers'. I suspect we haven't seen the last of her...and we still don't know how the Au Ra fit into everything either. Indeed. The more I think about it the more it makes sense. Ascians long had their fingers in the Ishgardian pie and have influenced them for who knows how long. If I were a Elder Wyrm, and we all know how dragons have this superiority complex, would take up a seat as the Archbishop. This lets Nidhogg or another Wyrm to 1) troll Ishgard and influence them directly by holding the supreme ruling position 2) Recuperate after losing an eye and amass power while having the best perspective to take advantage of when Ishgard is at her weakest 3) summon the horde to break the wards trapping the undercover Wyrm from prison because I really think that's what Mr. Archi Bishop did when he waved his staff and it gleamed. Vishap answered the call of his Master to try and release him using brute force. Plus, it kind of fulfills many other tropes. I'm not to sure how Iceheart plays into all of this but she is definitely a close-minded tool.

  14. I haven't played the new patch yet but from what I've been reading I'm going to thoroughly enjoy this patch. A lot of people dislike or disheartened by this patch and I can understand but I still have to ask, why? I think SE did their job quite well if they make you feel so strongly by creating compelling and relatable characters if you get so bent out of shape over their circumstances. Also, the fact that there is relatively no plot armor and that feeling of "no one is safe," gets a lot of respect from me. In a city full of political intrigue and power to be had, how could you not expect this outcome? Anyhow, 10 more minutes and I get to go home and experience what a lot of you have already. Cheers.
  15. I, myself, personally find the split between mages and heavy armor a fair way to balance out powerful spell slingers and in-your-face warriors who need the heavier armor. Typically, Magi were the world benders, using their magic to do all the heavy lifting and whatever else their imagination and skill would allow them to undertake. A capable wizard had no real need for armor as they could use spells to protect them. Even Battle Mages mostly eschew armor but still wore some but usually had more limited casting ability. D&D spell casters get an inherent chance to fail at casting spells because they are wearing armor, somatic or not. The weight burden and awkwardness of the armor made it very hard to do even everyday things like carrying items, climbing, swimming, etc, that an Adventurer would do. You, the Magi, spent time cloistered in your tower or portable dimension to study and master the planes around you in lieu of training your body to get used to armor. I think thats fair considering all the sweet spells and abilities a mage/wizard can learn and do. You could take a feat to be proficient in armor but from an optimizing standing point, your feat is best spent on something else, and from a RP standpoint, is cool because you adding depth to your character. Infact, you are limiting maximum casting potential in favor of defensive in the form of physical armor. Final Fantasy is it's own entity when it comes to, well, fantasy, and never followed the more traditional fantasy elements and only adopted some elements. Also, we need to realize it's a video game made for entertainment. The game and character design are all made to influence us to try this class, or grind for that magitek gear. DRK casting spells are probably going to be of personal nature when buffing and offensive in nature for some damage and threat capability going by what I read thus far. Though, you can bet that it will be nothing like what a BLM could do. You won't see DRK teleporting outside of Aetherytes like BLM can. No large aetheric bomb is going to magically pop out of the sky to burninate all the things. Monks train their body and have chakra which comes from themselves internally, so I don't really see armor inhibiting them. I never played a Red Mage or pretend to have knowledge on how they play but I'm sure they have limited spells they can cast. I'm sure they wont be fast casting Flare, Holy, etc but will we able to wear some kind of armor. So, do what you want as I'm no authority nor is anyone else but I do ask that you have some personal responsibility with your character to balance them out. You want to wear a full plate as a mage? Cool, but have more than personality quirks, like "Oh, she's shy and will probably never get in combat," to justify being able operate like a mage or wizard not using heavy armor. Limit your casting, limit your mobility, make that heavy plate really worth it.
