Been a bit too long since this thread's seen some life for a number of reasons, the least of which not being the fact that my computer was dated and had a lot of trouble running the programs I need for making this stuff come to life. But such things have been resolved and I bring more music! I got a *lot* of new instrument libraries recently and stumbled upon some great sounding eastern instruments. To shake the rust off, I used it as a chance to write some music for a friend's Doman noodle shop. Rei Kurogane's shop, "Soba and Soma," can be found at the Goblet, Ward 5 Subdivision, apartment 63. I have a question on the creation of magic/enchanted items: A new character of mine is going to have a book that he keeps very private yet has on him at all times. As a security measure to make sure nobody reads it I was thinking it could have two defensive spells that activate if it senses an aether signature other than his when held. One would simply keep the book closed while the other would burn the hands of the one holding it. I'm not exactly sure if there's a means of making a magical item in such a way that's been elaborated on at any point. I know of soul binding weapons and materia but they aren't the means I can see that occurring. Is there any specific school of magic/craft known to be proficient in applying spells of this manner?

Pathfinders recruitment is open and waiting for new faces to join in on the excitement! Our newly decorated tavern supplies a cozy and warm atmosphere for more slice of life RP while a number of new rooms such as our dojo supply a variety of environments for any strain of RP! Our FC arc is also in full swing, the Pathfinders having just dealt a critical blow to their foe, the free company Eorzea Unexplored. Wanting to strike once more before they can recover, the company looks to add any able bodied fighters it can to their ranks to aid in the task. With skilled DMs and our own custom battle system, the next big clash is sure to be an epic tale for your character to tell (with maybe some scars to show for it too). After a while of not doing any of these requests (a habit I need to not fall back into) I have returned with a new piece! This one acts as both a theme for the relationship between my character Eddard Holt and his partner Madison Brookstone but more importantly as personal gift to Madison's player for her birthday. While suitable for the characters, it was written with her in mind, making it a unique piece in its intention. She's quite thrilled with how it turned out so I hope you all feel the same. The Sinner and the Saint As of this point, I do plan to continue filling these requests as soon as I can. The next one might be delayed a bit though due to my composition program being even more uncooperative than usual (I wasted over an hour troubleshooting why this track wouldn't export without the program crashing). Hopefully that won't be a problem upon the completion of the next track, but we shall see. In any case, it is a piece for all to look forward too, I guarantee!

As both of our lovely company members have confirmed, Neverfar's Tavern is always open for business. If you arrive and its vacant, prodding a member could easily result in one or several people coming to join. As for our official tavern night, the tentative date is Monday the 28th at the usual time of 8 EST with Tuesday the 29th as the possible fallback. It'll be a Starlight Celebration tavern night so come looking as festive as you desire!

Recruitment has been reopened! A few things were adjusted, the biggest being our application process, as mentioned. We will no longer be doing applications in game and will instead be using our new IC application on our website. Should you have any issues or concerns with the process or any other questions, please contact an officer. We have a nice set of events happening in the coming weeks, so be sure to apply soon!

At 116 enrolled members, Pathfinders has seen a good deal of growth over these past few months! As a result of our growing numbers and presence on the server bringing more in, we've decided to reevaluate or application process. Until this and a few other tweaks have been decided, recruitment for the Pathfinders will be closed! This will be by no means permanent and may very likely last only a few days. I'll return with more information once the decisions have been made! Players are still welcome and invited to stop by our FC house for a drink in the tavern or other fun RP shenanigans!

Imma plop this really useful thing here for you. It's a daunting post but don't let that deter you. You could have some questions you might have answered by just skimming through or picking a specific question that catches your eye. A good way to learn is through observation, as Magellan suggested. The Quicksand is a good way to passively do this but RPing with good RPers will also help you along the way. A lot of people, myself included, somewhat credit their progress in RP skill to being around people that set a good example. Tabletop night!... But poor attendance has made us postpone and just chill with some beers and Monday Night Football. I'll probably do some writing when I get home.

I finally decided to compete after a few months of being on Balmung and it's quite clear why the event is as popular as it is. Thanks to everyone that puts their efforts into making it what it is, I had a whole lot of fun with some tense fights!

I still can't decide on what it is but something about DMing in an MMO intimidates me far more than in a tabletop game to the extent where I constantly convince myself I can't do it despite how much I want to. I'll have ideas that I'm confident will be very fun and am told they sound fun but I never get to them thanks to the mindset that some incapability of mine will make it all go to shit and I'll waste everyone's time. What's worse is that I've said several times "I'm cooking up X event and will be hosting it soon!" just to let those words fade and never have it happen. It'd never result in characters being caught in a dead arc since I could never start the damn thing but being all talk to have nothing to show for it makes me feel like an ass. I did that a lot on Gilgamesh and it's kind of embarrassing to think back on. To try and make myself DM on Gilgamesh, I put my character into a situation where he'd be AWOL until an event I had in mind occured. Next thing I know, I take a hiatus and decide to try Balmung when I return, leaving yet another event idea to rot. I'm hoping to arrange a DM'd event or two for Eddard's story soon. I keep telling myself that I'll follow through instead of being a big ol' baby, that DMing this first event will finally let me overcome the anxiety and DM more. I feel far more confident that I'll be able to since my RP on Balmung has been stronger than it was on Gilgamesh. Still, a seething doubt seems to perpetually stay in the back of my mind. It is unnerving.

Huh. The way you describe you and your partner in crime hunting reminds me of a pair of sisters I knew on Gilgamesh. A good sign for sure! Anywho, Pathfinder's is always looking to bolster our roster! As an FC with a focus on exploration I can see it being a good fit for the both of you. That being said, Island Exploration will certainly be something we look to dive into as well when we're able. Until then, we do have several scheduled RP events a month. We have our monthly exploration event, our monthly tavern event, and a bi-weekly bonfire "story" event a member just organized. Then there's any adventures we cook up from day to day, of course. Pathfinders accepts all walks of life (short of psychopathic murderers) allowing us to have a unique assortment of characters. I think some "strange little cat people" would be a welcome addition to that variety. I'd be more than happy to have Eddard meet with them at the house so you can take a gander and try out some RP with some of the FC members. Just so you can test the waters. Pathfinders is always looking for new recruits! We have at least two FC events a month, one being our monthly tavern night and the other being our monthly FC adventure. That isn't to say there won't be more, though! One of our members is arranging a bonfire event to help FC mates connect more and I'll be looking to host some IC dungeon runs now that my HW binge is (mostly) overwith. You can contact me IG or on here, whicever you prefer. The GMs listed on our thread will also be happy to help. Even if you don't join our ranks, feel free to stop by the tavern for a drink. We'd love to have your company \o/

Please do so! Our tavern is always open should people want to stop by and RP for a spell. You can pop in to surprise us but there's no completely solid guarantee anyone will be ICly around to entertain a random guest. But! If you throw me a /tell beforehand, I'll throw Eddard into the house and see if any FC members would want to join to get a bit of a group going. I'm hoping to see all those as well as all those that wished they could've at our next night, which now has an official date. Our next tavern night will be Wednesday, October 28th at 8:00 PM EST. In the spirit of the holiday, Chief has declared this particular night the "All Saints Buffet." Eddard will be serving special drinks and Chief will be making special meals. Guests are encouraged to wear their best costumes. We're looking forward to it and hope you are too!

Pathfinders is continuing to grow and would love if you'd join to have that trend continue! As described in the OOC section of the post, we now have two monthly RP events to help our community bond. We've also started our first FC plot with one of those two events as a medium. Lots of fun to be had!
