1. You should make that your personal mission. Seconded! In response to Swift Nightclaw: Yanno, that tried me too on WRA. Sooooo many couples. So many. GUILDS dedicated to couples. I met a pair of RP partners who had not one but TWO guilds basically built around their IC relationships with their characters. Not one or two characters.... ELEVEN CHARACTERS EACH. Geez. I remember better days with RP in WoW but now it -does- seem like a lot of mama-drama. I can't say the expansion really helps. But what I've seen that might be playing a big role besides a bit of coveting when people see one really good IC couple is the big focus on not taking IC events into your character. Yeah, there were Kor'kron about and they were supposedly beating up some of the rebels but when I found when I asked what all was happening on my Sin'dorei ranger-- I got a lot of varied responses. Some said the Vol'jin thing was already happening. Some said it hadn't happened yet (because it hadn't concluded.) Some people said it was already over. Mind you, this was all in character and during the Dark Spear Rebellion. I think it's just a lot easier for some people to stick to focusing on their character's immediate life than risking sounding silly to someone else or being told they're wrong for assuming what's happening at a different rate in time. Of course, people just generally have a tendency to want to focus on their character. Sure, they might agree not to have their characters be super heroes or grand champions renown by all the world, but some just want to be the hero or the leader or the person who's actually developing their character with no care or concern who else is trying to develop. I've seen a -lot- of this too in WoW. Whole events and guilds built on progressing the storylines of one or two people. I think the mentality also extends to -some- people who are overly concerned with the romantic relationship of their characters; because then you're only focusing on two people and not having to worry about anyone else. It's a guaranteed method of character development if you make your partner RP with you every waking moment. It can also just as easy and often does flat-line. Things tend to get pretty stale when you're not paying attention to what else is going on around you and you're DMing little things for your two toons.
2. *squints eyes at* Hrm...can't say I know YOU! D: Fine. No welcome for you. *strides off*
3. A lot of people are speculating around 300K+ gil for housing. But you can have LS/FC housing AND personal. And personal you can invite people over. Looks like you're the one moving in then! I'm not nearly rich enough for that! Eeeeeeeep~! Guess I better go find a guide on how to make gil. If one even exists yet. NO BACHELOR KITTY PAD FOR JOO!
4. I have to agree on the steampunk thing, as much as I love the idea of a two-seated hog again. I watched the cut scene with the Garlean Empire and freaked out a little. "The Empire?! No one warned me the Sith were in this game!!" Imperial theme.
5. Caring too much, I think, becomes a problem. When you start to feel involved in their IC drama or OOC drama, it becomes difficult to maintain a friendship and remain unbiased and not allow things to affect your RP. The borders and communication before hand poses a little bit of an issue for me. Using Ronberku's method as an example-- many people want things to develop slowly over time. I do too! I'll be honest. If someone tells me OOCly before we RP that they want a romantic relationship with my character ONLY if I'll be their girlfriend... I'm... probably... going to... avoid that. I mean, it's hypocritical for me to say it but I know that it won't end well. Similarly, I like to know before hand, if it's possible, whether or not the person RPing a character that my toon might be interested in (even if there's just a sliiiiim hope) isn't going to be crazy and angry and verbally abusive OOC later. I'd like to just let it go as it goes but I hate retconning and sometimes it's just inevitable when relationships ICly go awry.
6. Wow. Atleast your not in Brantford. And D'awwwh. Atleast you guy's can go on nature walks if your that far out? What do you take me for, some kind of person who goes outside?! We walk around our property a good bit but there's not too much unclaimed or fenced forest out here. We went down to the river but that was about it. I'm a pretty boring mom. Your playing video games-How is that a boring Mom? Well, I'm a bit biased. I'm a gamer as well. Overall though...Sunlight is good for you! *Holds up sign "Go Outside Now, Better Graphics"* Ahhh. So you don't really have a lot of places to visit. You try sometime to get out and do some stuff. There is lots of hidden gem's in your area. Hell, I think their is a festival coming up soon. When my little man is more than a year old maybe he'll begin to appreciate my gaming... instead of slamming his hands on the keyboard and eating all my posts! Did you know there are no respawns in RL?! Also, as I post in this thread it starts to rain again. You've cursed me. I'll have to look into it. I haven't done anything out here really since the county fair when I was in middle school.
7. On the topic of ignoring people when you're in a couple-- For new RPers especially, it's really easy to suffer from peer pressure. People who feel somewhat insecure about their RP and whether or not it's any good find some semblance of security in a solid RP relationship. When the person they RP with gets on and goes "You need to come RP with me nao" they'll usually do it because they don't want to be thrown away and have all their RP go down the toilet just because they felt they were 'neglecting' their character's significant other. The whole time issue comes into play here. For those RP partners who realize there's going to be a schedule for one of them, they're trying to make every moment count. All other RP at that point is extraneous, it's walk up, it -might- develop their character, but they're plateau'd into the comfort zone with one person. That also contributes to the pressure thing. People can become jealous or possessive over the people they RP intimately with; one of the best aspects to black hole RP is that you're not writing something intimate and it keeps a level of detachment well in hand. They might not intend to feel that way, but it's fairly normal for newer people especially. You're showing a little part of you that you're probably embarrassed of and those same doubts about your quality might arise in the face of the potential of your partner ditching you for someone better. Many people don't -mean- to sound like nags. RP partnerships shouldn't be exclusive with their RP, but in many cases it will be. You'll think you want someone to do walk up with you all the time but if you're in the middle of an extremely intense scene and someone strides up with a 'Oh hi, guys, can you point me towards the Adventurers' Guild?' you might not be as open to getting really in depth with them. It takes the pair of RPers who are together to acknowledge everything before hand, set their boundaries, and be supportive of each other and all other RPers they meet. As much as I hate to say it, you're developing friendships with the people you RP with-- you're getting to know their style and their approach to their character and while it's not a requirement, it helps to be tactful and helpful to -anyone- you choose to roleplay with. I, personally, understand and I want so badly to remain neutral about the people I RP with and not get to know them very well OOCly. It just doesn't happen. I want to check in on people who've asked me questions OOC and see how they're doing and try to help them out. That same quality makes me... pretty awful at RP relationships, I think, as much as I enjoy them.

9. Just figured out how to reply to two things at once! WOO! Okay. Yeah. Dry is bad. *Noms on grass and flops about* *pours buckets of water on you* That's only an hour away from where I am! Cooooool. *Get's wet* WOO! IMMUR LURV! *Flops about some more* And cool! Ever been up to the Springs? Ginnie for example? Their awesome this time of year. Th-there... there is -a- spring. Foster's Springs, I think we call it. I live out in the middle of no where near the Suwannee and I don't get a chance to get out much wif mah tiny baby.

11. - Is the lore and general story of the game fairly easy to learn? Is the story and lore presented coherently and logically, such that I won't feel overwhelmed by small details or feel like I need to research every other thing? (I'll try to clarify if that doesn't make sense.) You'll learn a lot of the lore through the story quest, but there's not too much to learn. I recommend focusing on: 1. The Calamity 2. The City-states and Grand Companies 3. The Twelve 4. The Primals 5. The classes and class-origins - Do the mechanics of the game compare to the mechanics of other newer games? (Basically, does the game offer me more than point-and-click mechanics?) It's fairly simple and clean. Much like WoW, not so much like, say, GW2. - What are some of this game's very unique features in your opinions and/or what makes it worth its monthly fee? Besides the fact that it's an absolutely beautiful game and the gameplay's smooth, I personally enjoy the depth of the RP community. I have to say it plays a really big role in the game I want to play and I just haven't be able to feel at home in F2P game communities. Not sure if there's a correlation there, probably not-- but the story line is great also, the classes and multiple job system is very unique, and I like how dedicated SE is to making this game work. - My friend told me that this game offers a lot of PvE. Can several of you confirm this? I don't care much for PvP and prefer to have plentiful PvE, lest I get bored quickly. PVE is pretty much 90% of the game, so far. At least to me. They've yet to even put in the PVP area and it will be 4v4+, not 1v1. There's no world PVP and no factions so you won't have to worry about being merc'd while leveling.
12. Totally unrelated but I love watching this romance between Lost and Siobhain blossom. *giggle* I, too, enjoy this. She is already my waifu and we never even had a wedding! I'm so lucky. *fist clench* *^*
13. "We are both the weapon and the whetstone." --- War, devastation, loss. These things things are as indescribably horrible as they are inevitable in this new era and in so many past. They lurk like dark promises when Menphina is on the rise; likewise they plague our thoughts even in the most glaring light of day. As mortals we love and we lose; we gain and we suffer. These trials that affect all of us in some way or another can do one of two things: They can mold us... or they can break us. There are those of us who trudge through our lives; who try to ignore the darkness on our doorsteps, just outside the realm of our consciousness, hiding behind hollow laughter and the innumerable distractions of our days. There are others of us who seek that conflict, eager to reap from the spoils of chaos and profit from bloodshed. Distrust still breeds, multiplying, focused on our innocents as well as our corrupt, driving vast chasms between us. Misfortune breeds jealousy, animosity, and fear. But those veterans of hardship and survivors of conflict, thought by many to be the most savage of us, know the truth - conflict brings us together. Those men and women who treat the training grounds like sacred sites, worshipping through their sacrifice in blood and their dedication to perfection, know that there is a kinship found in arms. We look to each other to learn, to grow stronger, to press on without trying to deny the existence of the darkness outside or within our walls. We ask nothing of each other, we care little for the histories of our would-be brethren, who they've been or who they've wronged; we know only that in that rigorous practice there is promise. The promise of change and of strength. We do not wait for others to step up and protect that which we hold dear; we spend every spare moment carving the knowledge we need into the very fibers of our being. We do not wait to be forged in the crucible of devastation; we strive to defeat the inevitable before it has a chance to find us lacking. We do not love war and what it brings... but we will become masters of it. Whether it is for fame and glory, for money, to preserve those we love and all we hold dear - the goals of fighters matter not to us, only that we might pit ourselves against those masters of the arts in fair conflict and rise higher than we have ever been. We are here for one another. Brothers and sisters of sweat and steel. We are both the weapon and the whetstone, pitting ourselves against our friends and rivals, teaching while we learn. To those who wish to teach, acquire, or test their skills, we welcome you to join us on the neutral field, within the sanctity of our own city-states in order to prepare for what is outside them. All are welcome to sharpen their edges against us on the training field, for we are the Grindstone, and you are your own weapon. --- (The Grindstone is an unofficial coalition of fighters; armed or unarmed, novice or master, pit-fighter or soldier - we honestly don't care. This is a group for individuals seeking to try out their RP combat skills against like-minded people, to create new alliances and rivalries, and to further develop their characters. In an effort to keep the much-feared duel-drama to a minimum, there are some rules and restrictions; otherwise anyone is free to come and go as they please.) This LS will be used predominantly for In-Character communications. For OOC conversations, please use parentheses. For information regarding the corresponding Free Company, please visit our website. Our preset dates for meeting will be after 10 pm EST (7 pm PST) on Wednesdays (Training) and Saturdays (Tournaments) at Fesca's Wash outside of Ul'dah in Central Thanalan until further notice. 'The Grindstone' Linkshell is for spectators and Overseers only. 'Grindstone Coalition' is for individuals who aim to fight or heal. Tournaments are announced in both Linkshells for the benefit of spectators as well as participants. ---- *The icon used for this LS was created by the marvelous Torn Sky.
14. For the most part that has been what I've concluded from in game evidence and seen a few other threads say. The other side I have seen people saying the opposite because of the different openings that 1.0 legacy players get of just appearing and walking into your starting zone as opposed to 2.0 players getting carted in on the chocobo cart and giving the set up that the 2.0 carters are just adventurers from somewhere else just traveling to that zone at the time while the legacy intro seems to indicate the character finally reappearing from the time warp spell cast by Louisoix on those at Carteneau. That seems to be the main point of I contention have found in regards to this. It's not just the opening, this is coming from someone who has both a 1.0 and 2.0 character, some of the dialogue is different. Cid actually remembers your character if you played in 1.0, but most of the dialogue is the same. You can RP a character that was at the battle if you want to even if you never played 1.0 as I always felt like the main story and RP story doesn't have to line or nor should it. You wouldn't want ten thousand people claiming that they killed the main Garlean baddie in 1.0. So storyline and mechanic wise the only difference is a few bits of dialogue and a neat tattoo, other than that they are pretty much the same exact story. A neat tattoo!? ARGH! *flails* I want one!
15. Can ride my shoulders all day and night. Well, other things aside. A'hur. Honey, tsk tsk, the saddle goes on it's back, not it's face. While that'd be one crazy ride, it isn't the most effective. As for it is, there might be new mounts added of such. We have magitek mounts, I don't see why a bike can't be added. If they do, it'll probably be a diesel punk style one from FFVII. Especially more so seeing as they're adding the Golden Saucer which -does- have the snowboarding mini-game. I must have had it confused... *eaten by Coeurl* D: Hnnnnngh.... Biiiiiike... That would be a SPECTACULAR one to have.
16. They will demand you be put in jail and pay 10,000 Gil per month to them for "Mentally Damaging" the helpless and sweet creature. Don't forget you will get dirty looks once released. Then they'll kill the Coeurl because it's been domesticated and is no longer fit to survive in the wild. 'Cus that's how they roll.
17. Oh waifu! I didn't know you wanted a mount, I have this Floating Eye for you! Wait, you don't want to be high, so a voidsent, yes yes! Riding the mount of pure evil into battle! But on a serious note, I think they were numerous enough to have as a mount. To get one as a mount, I believe they're semi-intelligent more so than other beasts, so I take the bonding would take a special strong willed individual. Game limitations and such, remember 1.0 was more of an alpha experiment instead of an actual game. You could just put me on your shoulders and carry me everywhere! Here's to Mechano-hog equivalents in FFXIV ARR. >.> Very good. I don't want to make Siobhain too-too special but I would like her to eventually get a coeurl mount. I may periodically reference it. I did also read that they're extremely ferocious creatures but I'm sure she could take one. *SHIELD BASH ON THE NOSE* *throws a saddle on there* Hurrah!
18. I just wanted to make sure in the event I get the digital upgrade that if I were to use one (which I might because I -love- mounts) people weren't going to beat me up or come at me with pitchforks for using an endangered species for a mount. Eorzean PETA?
19. Hehe, of course you'll judge me waifu, it's why you married me. Remember? Or was that the intense amount of liquor talking! Lost remembers the battle, being a BLM, she was enthralled, but hey, she's a BRD now. That's another story for another time. :3 Darling, I accept joo for all joo flaws. Even if you didn't single-handedly win the Battle of Carteneau on behalf of Eorzea. That -is- a good question though and related to the topic-- Is everyone just assuming that male Miqos, female Highlanders and female Roegadyns were numerous back in 1.0 and they just didn't show up anywhere for some reason? Because that might affect your (general 'your' not specifically Lost River) story with whether or not you were at that battle.
20. So these guys. It just so happens that Siobhain really dislikes Chocobos for some reason. Probably because she feels like she's a little too high up for comfort. I read that Coeurls used to be numerous in 1.0 but now they're endangered or extinct? So, questions. 1. Does anyone know any details about what happened to the Coeurls? 2. Does anyone use a Coeurl as their IC mount? 3. Does anyone actually mention their mount ICly at all? 4. Are they cool to ride?
21. OH ho! I did not realize this, since I'm not a Legacy player; I've only known about the one opening and it seemed to denote as much. I guess in that case the opening for new players in ARR is much like the opening for FFXIV 1.0 so my point is retracted on the matter of new players -likely- having been from the battle. RP wise it doesn't matter. Roegadyn women were everywhere, they were just hiding in the shadows, biding their time! Really BIG shadows! *shakes Lost because she enjoys shaking her* If you want to be from the Battle, then you can look up the lore and go with it! If you don't want to have been there, no sweat~ No one's judging you. Except me. And probably Bahamut.
22. I assumed as much-- No idea where anyone would find the room! But as stated above, the Primals disperse. And while I wouldn't have put one or two of the points above the same way, I'm forced to agree. Can you kill Primals ICly? Yes, in a very, very large group under the right circumstances. Probably not just one FC or LS but the combined efforts of many. I think this is the equivalent of killing the Lich King in the notoriety you would receive after accomplishing such a feat-- People should know about you if you've done it. Should you make embellishments to your company house with Primal parts? Probably not, as cool as it would be. They're just not like Naga or young drakes or anything like that.
23. Game-wise, I believe that the storyline is the same for people from 1.0 as well as new people for ARR. That being the case, I think the game is geared to make you think that you are a hero from Carteneau and before it. Otherwise, it's left open to interpretation. For RPers I think no one really minds if someone new to ARR claims to have been involved at the battle so long as they've got their lore straight and in reverse, many people who carried over from 1.0 didn't go anywhere near the battle.
24. Hello! I too come from the Sunshine state! It's been raining the past couple days but... FALSE ADVERTISEMENT?! That's a lot of 'and stuffs'. I want friends and stuff. Q_Q Welcome!
