  1. Are you planning to add a page here on Hydaelyn Roleplayers for your FC? Sadly there are only 3 listed at the moment, though there are quite a few more.
  2. Prediction: Yugiri and the Doman Viceroy are going to get into a cat fight at some point.
  3. From what I've read in this thread, not yet, but it looks like Foxfirestorm and EliBallard were going to talk about it. I'd post in their linkshell thread, and maybe send a pm to Foxfirestorm, as it looks like he's coordinating/spearheading the efforts for Mateus. Much appreciated. Maybe it would be easier just to link this entire thread there that way people can see what's going on and what offers there are beyond just Mateus. Thanks! I'd suggest contacting some of the folks actively seeking to promote Mateus first, Just not to step on any toes. They've worked hard to try and really drive the point that its friendly and growing, and might feel aggrieved if a poorly worded message was made. Like that one poster on SE's Forums telling people from Balmung to stay away. I was meaning not to directly promote Mateus but rather this thread with the OP's information of what roleplay servers there are as of current active. Nor would I write a message? I'm not sure where you might have gotten where I was going to write something poorly written? I don't see how this equals the nasty comments left on the Official Servers; by informing people that the "RPC has a thread, please read it". I guess there's just a miscommunication there. Intent was to link to this thread on my personal tumblr. My mistake, sorry. I see no reason why not to link the thread, that being the case. Sorry again, was in the midst of a Dusk Vigil run when I replied, so I probably misread your post.

  5. For, you, for anyone else feeling a little defeated or picked on or whatever. If you like Balmung and don't want to move, if you don't have time to level an alt, if you don't have the money to transfer: it's okay. Being proactive, being supportive, being present and invested and giving a damn is just as important. We have a saying at my work (I work for a non profit): those who can't give, go. Those who can't go, give. Giving here can mean just flat out telling people selling points for other servers. It can be encouraging a discouraged person struggling on a smaller server. It can be offering resources, it can be helping with ideas, it can be patting someone on the back for doing a good job in a hard situation. It can be making light of a bad situation to help people smile. It can just be digging in and saying hey, no matter how shitty it might get, we'll figure something out. But wherever you are, whatever you're doing -- this is your hobby, and you're passionate about it, and you're part of making the overarching community awesome. So keep doing that, and don't feel bad if you can't be everything to everyone. No one can. And thanks to everyone coming in and speaking up and answering questions and all of that. Communication is always the first step in solving big problems such as finding a server to serve as a place for new people to go. Do you know if there's a master-post or something being shared on tumblr trying to get people to be aware of Mateus? I have a decent following and wouldn't mind sharing it on there and a few other places like my twitter. (I've still got about an hour at work but I'd like to share it when I get home.) I may be wrong, but I don't believe Mateus has been advertised over Tumblr, Facebook, or Twitter by any organized group that's been seeking to promote it. If I recall the conversation correctly, it had been considered, but not pursued for one reason or another.
  6. This seems like the most logical route to go. Then again, it also felt like Red Mage being a Sharlayan Job was the most logical route to go as well. It's founders included former Mhach and Amdapor peoples, the entire Red Mage Aesthetic matches perfectly with what we've seen of the Sharlayan Aesthetic from the Shire Gear and Great Gubal Library drops, Alisae is a Red Mage herself and a Sharlayan, it'd help cement Sharlayan as -the- magical nation of the modern age, completing the FF trinity of Red Mage, White mage, and Black Mage... Heck, Red Mage being a Sharlayan Job would've even explained their complete and total absence from the story thus far given how the Bibliothecs are so ardently against sharing Sharlayan knowledge such as Astromancy. Not only that, but the idea that legitimate survivors of Mhach and Amdapor fled Eorzea during the Witch Hunts and established this Job in a safe place makes sense. Every which way you looked at it, Red Mage being Sharlayan fit. It just feels like SE made it Ala Mhigan to appease the players who are upset that, 'Doma is getting shoved into their Ala Mhigo expansion and taking it over.'
  7. The thing about Red Magic is less others noticing, and more the Elementals noticing and then sending out the Conjurers to start making arrests and putting down this magical art that drains the land of aether. I suppose its possible that Red Magic doesn't actually do that, but I'll be waiting for confirmation before I'd believe it. [Edit]: As far as Necromancy, there's the WHM 50-60 Job Quests, and Ishgard considers it heretical as per the Hildebrand Quests for 3.X, though I don't really know how canon Hildebrand is. Just figured I'd toss that tidbit out there.
  8. Good post, and good point. To more Red Mage speculation! If the little settlement of Red Mages somewhere in Gyr Abania is actually named Thamasa, I totally expect (hope) that as part of the Job Quests for 60-70, we have to hunt down and take down Hidon. If not, perhaps Hidon will feature in the new Hildebrand Quests, like Ultros did back in the 2.X Hildebrand series.
  9. The Scions do teach the Warrior of Light a few things, though arguably those might not be strictly Sharlayan. Such as the workings of aether back in the 2.X series. However you cannot deny granting the Warrior of Light access to Matoya's research on Aetheric Convergence, as well as the Anti-Tower of all places, certainly constitutes sharing Sharlayan knowledge with an outsider. The difference between Ishgardian Astrologians and Sharlayan Astrologians primarily seems to be that the Ishgardian Astrologians focus on reading the stars to predict the future and completely ignore the magical aspect. If I'm remembering the quests correctly, the magical aspect was deemed borderline heretical because it did not come from Ishgard. That's another reason it was vastly unpopular amongst Ishgardians when Jannequinard kept trying to introduce it to Ishgard because of the good it could do. That said, it seems to be the Bibliothecs who are against sharing knowledge with outsiders, particularly any knowledge with tangible affects on history, like magical knowledge. The Sons of Saint Coinach are another group of Sharlayans who do not seem to have an issue working with non-Sharlayans, though that seems to be less a case of them sharing specifically Sharlayan knowledge, and more them sharing knowledge about the Allagans they've uncovered. I mean, put it this way. If the Sharlayans as a whole were dead-set against using their knowledge to assist other nations, then the Aetheryte Networks would've never been constructed.
  10. This is a bit of a misunderstanding. Sharlayans did teach outsiders the way of Astromancy, the elezen in Ishgard uses that magic, despite not being Sharlayan. There is a faction of Sharlayans known as the Bibliothecs who are fiercely isolationist and strictly against sharing any Sharlayan knowledge, though in particularly through the AST Job Quests, we see them focusing on Astrology. I imagine they hate the Scions incredibly. That said, they're only a faction, not the dominant force ruling Sharlayan. As per the Lorebook, we know its Louisoix's Son who holds sway in the Forums right now, and his philosophy is that while Sharlayan as a nation will not intervene in the events of history as they unfold, every individual is free to pursue whatever path they wish. This is why the Scions of the Seventh Dawn haven't been dragged back to Old Sharlayan and put on Trial yet, and also why Alisae and Alphinaud were able to come to Eorzea to follow in their grandfather's footsteps. The above having been said, I was pretty disappointed to learn that Red Mage is coming from Gyr Abania of all places. Considering the Lore Book notes that Sharlayan was founded by survivors of Amdapor and Mhach as well, one would figure it'd be the logical place. Making it Ala Mhigan feels like SE trying to go to the playerbase, "See, Stormblood isn't ALL about Doma! Ala Mhigo is getting a new Job too!" Given all the FFXI references so far for Stormblood, I'm expecting the Red Mage village in Gyr Abania to be named, Thamasa.
  11. I'm not entirely sure how much Black Magic and White Magic are considered taboo anymore to be honest. The Elementals saw fit to bring back (albeit in a controlled environment), White Magic through the Padjals. The Warrior of Light becomes the first (known) White Mage outside of the Padjals since the days of Amdapor, though I know there's speculation regarding recent developments with Y'shtola. As far as Black Magic goes, I think its generally more frowned upon than White Magic due to the Void Mages of Mhach. Although there is no clear cut between a Black Mage and a Void Mage, the two terms are used separately on numerous occasions. As of Heavensward's 3.0 Job Quests for Black Mages: Considering the above as well as the upcoming addition of Red Mage, which will be using Red Magic, a combination of White and Black Magic, its difficult to say how taboo those arts are anymore. I might've considered Red Mages would face persecution like White/Black Mages, however, as of the video Revolutions, we see Alisae is openly a Red Mage. I find it difficult to imagine that passing with the Scions if it posed a danger to Hydaelyn. As per the original discussion, Void Magic and Voidsent are pretty taboo, but Necromancy also seems to fall into that category. Summoning (as in, Primals, not Egis) is also taboo.
  12. From what I've seen, I'm rather in favor of Mateus. The community thus far has been friendly, open, engaging, and just the right balance between creative and lore-adhering. Its also quite supportive. The RPC Discord is fairly in-depth and thorough.
