1. Hey there! Yet another returning player here. Funny how the time flies-- two years doesn't seem that long at all in the grand scheme of things yet it feels like an eternity at the same time since last I played somehow. Regardless, I'm Arik, I'm an MMORPG addict, and some of you may have seen me lurking around the art section of the site for some time. (Even though I stopped playing, I kept producing FFXIV art all the same. ) Any who, I recently returned to the game a few weeks ago alongside some friends, such as my long-time RP partner, Seren. We bounced between a few different games following our hiatus but eventually were struck with a heavy dose of nostalgia for FF. Suddenly, I remember why I adored the game so much, back in the day, and realize I haven't been quite as content with a game ever since last I played. All that said, time for the details! MMORPG background Everything from the original Everquest (I'm showing my age here) to Aion to FFXIV to Blade and Soul and Black Desert Online, with a few extras in between. I've gotten around the MMO circuit in my day. RP experience I've been RPing for too many years to really count. It all started with old instant messengers, EZboards and various forums, MMORPGs and Tabletop (the latter of which I've only recently started playing... Seren has been teaching me. :'D) Character ideas/info My main character is Arik Nergui-- a Xaela originally belonging to the Tumet tribe that failed his rite of passage and thus never earned the Tumet name (for reasons you'll have to find out through RP~). Nergui is a nickname meaning "No Name" in Mongolian, a moniker he came to be known by over the years. He is a long time mercenary and sellsword hailing from Othard who fled the continent to escape some 'personal issues' (moar secrets to be learned ICly) following the Garlean razing of Doma. He is a seemingly carefree, flippant sort of fellow with a friendly demeanor and a bit of an alcohol problem-- you may just encounter him passed out in a ditch somewhere with a few bottles of whiskey at any given hour of the day. As for ideas; Arik is currently on the road to redemption following a life of mercenary work that was... less than palatable. He won't admit it, but his good-guy qualities are starting to show around those few he has come to call friends in recent weeks. I intend to see if he is able to achieve this redemption or otherwise fail, only to fall back into his old ways. I'm looking for all sorts of contacts for him-- from friends to enemies to rivals and more; so if you're interested at all, don't hesitate to hit me up! You may also see a Hyur woman by the name of Adelise Levant idling around town at any time. This would be my alt-- a former courtesan; current day Fortune Teller. Her details are an entirely different story, but I won't text-wall any further. Nonetheless, if you see me hanging around, feel free to say hi! How did you learn about the coalition? Good ol' Google. What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? (e.g. Light, medium, or heavy) Medium to heavy. I play mostly for the RP aspect of things, but do also enjoy the game content itself on a casual level. As Seren put it in her own intro, though: I might as well be playing Fashion Fantasy XIV given a good portion of my leveling is for the soul purpose of glamours. We've mostly kept to our little circle over the past few weeks, but are open to branching out and meeting some new folks. ♥ Anything from real life you're comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc.) I'm a full time student and stay at home pet-mom for my cats and pup. I work mostly as an artist on the side (feel free to check out my art thread over in the Artisan House). I enjoy video games-- obviously-- art (others' as much as making my own), writing, music (of all sorts; seriously, my playlists range anywhere from Industrial to Pop to Disney to Metal and so on), and am a huge horror movie fan (a long-time favorite being Martyrs by director Pascal Laugier.) RPing is easily one of my favorite past-times, if the years I've spent doing it is any indication, as I find it to be a very effective stress-relief activity. There's just something refreshing about stepping into a character's head and playing out their story opposite other writers. I often think of it like writing a cooperative novel, which I find far more satisfying than doing so alone. All that said, thanks for reading and hope to see you all around!
2. Great stuff! Particularly love the last one. The colors are spot on and that red really pops.
3. Thank you! :'D Aaaaand a few more pieces I've done recently. The first being a commission for a lovely Au Ra named Arukai and the second being my own bby lizard, Arik.

9. Hi, hello, I'm still alive-- and opening commissions once again! Get 'em while they're hot! Commission info can be found here. I've done a few new things since last I posted:
10. Another commission done! Cel-shaded piece for Conrad Godsbane of Balmung! Check it out on Tumblr here!
11. Yep, slots are all full up again! Sorry, Harmonixer. That said, to anyone who may be interested out there: I'm going to start taking names for a waiting list, just so people can get their dibs in a bit more orderly, rather than having to depend on catching my 'SLOT'S OPEN GAIZ" posts at the right times. If anyone would like to get on the waiting list, just hit me up via PM here or e-mail me at [email protected]. I'll put ya down for a spot and let you know what number you are. When a slot opens, I'll contact the first person on the top of the list to see if they are still interested in a commission. \o/
12. I now have a tumblr! Found here. Would love to connect with folks! \o/ The front page of this thread has also been updated with some new info. \o/ One commish slot is currently open.
13. Another commission down! A full body painting of the badass Xaela, Jaliqai Qulaan. Thanks to Ephemerality for the commission! While I'm getting through my list of commissions thus far, I plan on likely opening more slots after the holiday season's blown over.
14. Thank you! \o/ I definitely enjoyed painting that second character, so it's nice to hear I wasn't the only one that thought him a looker, lulz. Haha, that's right! ;D I've already started on her, now if only I could stop being a hyper-perfectionist so that I could move along a bit faster. But then I suppose that's better than being careless. \o/ Thank you! I should hopefully be able to start opening some more slots soonish.
15. I come bearing stuff and things! Commission for Unnamed Mercenary! ♥ Not FF related, but a warm up speed paint I did of another character of mine.
16. Another Commission down! This was a lot of fun to do. A thank you to Kahn'a Ohditra for the request. http://i.imgur.com/O1Ex2Y7.jpg[/img] And an added bonus, another doodle of Arik with his might-as-well-be-little-sister Kagerou http://i.imgur.com/pORFSiv.jpg[/img]
17. As others have said, it really depends on the situation and who I'm RPing with. If the wounds are relatively minor, I'm fine saying that the magic quickly expedites the healing process-- probably closing cuts, lightning bruises, etc etc and allowing my character to swiftly bounce back. However, when it comes to more serious wounds which could prove fatal in less fantastic settings-- like getting run with a sword Aerith Gainsborough style-- death is still possible and I very much prefer the healing process to take some time. Healing can very well stabilize a character's health and thus be the make-it-or-break-it factor between my character dying or otherwise being stabilized to live another day, but the healing would not -entirely- resolve the wound. I've upset many a healer in the past who wanted their abilities to be 100% successful but I chose to retain some amount of said wounds regardless. Luckily, my usual pocket conjurer these days shares these opinions as my own and often even employs traditional, non-magic first aid on a regular basis.
18. First commission done! This full body painting was done for the lovely Ardent Dawn.
19. Prior to MMOs, I primarily RP'd on forums via paragraph and novel-esque posts. So it was only natural for me to keep up that method of RP when I came over to MMOs. Basically, if my posts start with an action, I use /em then quotations for any dialogue. If the post starts with dialogue, I just use /say and then opening with the quotations. Ex: /em leans over the table with a grin, "Hey there." VS /say "Hey there," he grinned, leaning over the table. But that's just my style, and I really don't care one way or another if the people I'm RPing with do the same thing or something completely different. To each their own! \o\
20. Events are just tricky in general because there tends to be SO MUCH CHAT going on that it's ridiculously easy to miss emotes you're not expecting to happen (such as someone you're not actively RPing with emoting at you-- you don't know to watch for that person's name to include a message specific to you so you overlook it while searching for the names of the people who ARE RPing with you already.) I've had the same issue as you a lot in those situations. Like others have said though, sending a /tell is a really good idea in those cases, whether it be to ask if they'd welcome you into the RP or to ask if they saw the emote you had sent their way. In the group I generally run with, we usually always make a concerted effort to include other RPers who are around. For example, if we're RPing in a tavern and someone else comes in -- particularly if they're alone-- and they come up to the bar beside us, we'll usually have our characters acknowledge the arrival via a nod, a smile or nod or bump into them or -something- just to try to indicate that we're happy to include them in whatever we're doing. But not all groups will make that effort (that or they might be engaged in an RP that is just not suitable for others to join atm.) Any who, if you ever see me around in game, be it on the streets or at an event, feel free to give me a /tell or walk on up to RP, even if I'm with a group. I'm always game to meet new people. \o/
21. Like others have said, I really think it depends on the FC and the people within it. In the past, I've talked about leaving a RP guild with its members and then simply left-- neither party really needing to specify -why- I left, just that I did. We'd stay on good terms, still rp with each other, I just wouldn't share the guild tag anymore. Either way though, I do think it's always best to discuss it with at least the officers prior to departing or else you risk hard feelings. In our FC, we do require an IC meeting prior to joining, but we don't really set it up at all like the character is being interviewed (unless that's what the applicant actually wants.) Otherwise, we just arrange to stumble onto each other and play around to see how they fit in. After a bit, we'll find a way to shift conversation to the Company and if the character has been a good fit and expresses interest IC, we'll go ahead and do the invite. Either way, we function relatively loosely compared to some FCs, mostly because we're not a very elaborately structured group. We're mostly just a bunch of miscreant adventurers that figured out teaming up would allow them to take higher paying jobs. As a result, membership is pretty fluid, and people could easily come or go as they pleased. But there are definitely other groups that are far more formally structured where that might not work-- and so it's just best to go ahead and talk things out with folks first to see how they'd like to handle the departure.
22. Now updated with commission information!
