(my art) This is Khy! The anorexic voidhunter. And he needs plots! I've been sort of off-and-on with FFXIV RP lately, but I'm hoping to be more active, and I'm hoping to find some folks who may like to meet Khyran and plot with him. I made a post about him waaaay back in the day when I first joined the server, so I figured I'd make a new thread now that he's more established as a character. He has an extensive wiki. My preferences, in brief: I really like plots. I don't really like "small-talk" very much (or rather, my character doesn't), so I'm much more interested in seeing what sorts of conflicts or difficulties our characters could tackle together. Or... perhaps our characters could even be enemies? That'd be even cooler. I don't do a lot of "tavern crawling" or standing around and talking. Khyran prefers to keep his mind focused on tasks and he stays busy. I enjoy a broad range of styles. I adapt to yours. If you give me short posts, I'll adapt to your brisk style- if you give me paragraphs, I'll give you paragraphs. My default writing style is multi-paragraph but with relevant information. I try to give my writing "punch" rather than lingering on descriptive details. I don't mind "dark" or "adult" oriented content but only if it feels appropriate for the situation. There's a lot of RP floating around on the server that feels "adult" in the way a prepubescent highschooler would giggle about sex. If I write about "adult" themes, I try to do so in a respectful, realistic way. A few points that may interest someone: 1. WEIRD MAGIC. He has the power to spiritbond with other people. He can view their memories and convert them to materia, taking them out of their heads. He could be either an antagonist in a plot, or a protagonist willing to assist a character to overcome their personal "demons". 2. HE KILLS VOIDLIES. He's a voidhunter, and pretty good at it, too. If your character has a Voidsent problem, he might be the one to call. He could help a character overcome their literal "demons", too. 3. FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC. He's ... really sad and lonely and could use a buddy. But it's also hard to be Khy's buddy. He's the human equivalent of a toothache. He's so depressing. Good luck. There's lots more on my wiki if anyone's willing to dig around and see if anything sticks as a plot! If you have trouble, but want to RP, lemme know! I wanna hear about your character too ;3;

[A Suspicious Note] I'm Hunting Voidsents
AeolianMode replied to AeolianMode's topic in Tonberry's Lantern (IC)
Thanks for your interest in the plot folks! I didn't expect to get this many replies. Since two of you are together, do you want to rp in a forum thread or skype group or do you want to arrange a time ingame when everyone is free?)) -
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/N6SuKCTlLpTVuNn2Swb1zYksS5hFFL53rm-rNGjuM7mjMhGcLwk3ooiZOxVpi8MICtpnkG6yk7_N9EcPyPz_geS9-hCy3rc89esww-vPhJP17Xh-1-hBi4IwWgTOijUDpB24NR0_[/img] Welcome to Aethertide, a Neutral/Good aligned Heavy RP community! We have a strong focus on art and creative writing. We also use a unique RP currency system and storytelling reputation system. Our website is aethertide.enjin.com. The FC recently changed its name, so bear with me as I update all of the information. IC AV-RP is only a delivery company on the surface. Between jobs, we haunt the shadows of every street, hunting for corruption. AV-RP seeks to eradicate crime lords, Voidsent summoners and creatures, Garlean intruders in Eorzea, and dangerous individuals by providing just the sort of edge organizations need to take them down. This often puts AV-RP in the crossfire- but it’s the sort of work Eorzea needs. To these ends, Aethertide Venture Company is a Neutral to Good aligned company. People wishing Eorzea harm will not fit well here. Otherwise, all are welcome. AV-RP needs all sorts of people! OOC AV-RP is a Heavy RP, creativity-focused company. You are highly encouraged to be interested in art, creative writing, or heavy roleplay! Every month we will hold creativity contests which center on art or writing, all themed around the roleplay, characters, and themes found within AV-RP and FFXIV’s setting. Participation in events, contest, art, and writing will earn a special, AV-RP-specific currency! More on this below. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/FJJxRj2jrKxDW_dDJN-8m-IPL0bU3B202JxFNQGsLIkhURv8lY9pFPqFP6wHZ_m1tdR9NdVDdwOlx6yYT9ajPuir6N07i_pV-RUoX1draTL5CFDDtcsQznUlaAldiaS_9WEiqCZ_[/img] Frigid Cairn is the IC founder of Aethertide. He is a Roegadyn ex-official of the Maelstrom. He resigned to establish a new business. Though he seems simply interested in providing a service he believes Eorzea lacks, some have theorized that he has ulterior motivations. Even so, he is experienced, personable, and lenient, and he desires every member of Aethertide an equal say in the company’s direction. His primary concern is finding a steady stream of work while getting tangled up in other people's business. Your character could have heard of him if they: A. Are associated, or close to people who are associated with, the Maelstrom civil officers and city guards. B. Know of the Cairn family in Ul'dah, who are potters. C. Encounter him during his patrols around Limsa City proper. D. Find flyers advertising AV-RP in all major cities. E. Not enough to work with? Feel free to contact Khyran Oisin or Frigid Cairn in-game or on the Enjin to discuss how your character can get involved, or wait to join during one of our weekly events! https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/JjG1-9pORFGrHSG2ItotEt3aCQSbSzyYZHO4d0OH7DpiRhijvBxMQudeu4jmYizd7Pe5IlCZnlLdwx-D36t44d09ZinMH4rzu6xPklQO3HpAYpBScPAPfdpiIs5S5bM6Bs4Yg8dA[/img] AV-RP has a wide range of content to offer, but we also implement a few things that are rarely, if ever, seen in an FFXIV linkshell. Seasonal Events. Every 3 months, AV-RP will host a “Seasonal Event”. These are two to three week long plot events that use a roll system. There may be combat, investigations, or branching paths that will develop a story depending on the actions of the characters involved. Weekly Social RP Events.Every week there will be a new RP scenario to participate in. From tavern talks, mini-plots, investigations, to combat, you never know what you’re going to get during our weekly gatherings. A Skype group. Throughout the day, you can contact anyone in our public Skype group, chat, confer about RP, and more! Art. AV-RP encourages our members to partake in visual art, even if you don’t think you’re good at it. The founder of AV-RP is extremely interested in creating art and comics of other members’ characters, and the same is encouraged for others. When a new person joins the LS, they will get their character added to the illustration on our website header! Creative Writing. There will be creative writing and one-shot prompts for members to participate in that will help developing characters and general participation in the ongoing stories. For example, there will be short-story contests about a situation in your character’s life. There will also be lighthearted contests for crackfics about other people’s characters. If it's creative writing, and it's about FFXIV, we'll have it here! RP Honor System. TBA RP Currency System. AV-RP implements a system of its own currency within the LS that members can use to purchase in-character items which are attached to a plot-hook. These items and plots will be specifically designed for their character and inspired by their story. Our RP currency is awarded to anyone who participates in an LS event, creates a drawing, writes a character journal, roleplays on the forum, or partakes in any creative, RP-based activity. This is to encourage RP and creativity and has NO OOC benefit whatsoever. Read more about our currency system here. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/IYM628CmrMI-7o-Sjr0nLaoQTXpvS_LA0QpIX20vHFlJb2QewcjB3Rh_uV202npA0-me9_-RvmpxBDtp8RxaqcPBUQu4A5un6UimfwZOvb_8DqXVXxdHnVPJSCn01sKbR82ZE-aC[/img] If you like what you see here, please read our rules, sign our application, and then wait to be contacted by a founder. If your application is accepted, we will then confer as to the best way to involve your character in the community IC. This will either involve an interview, or a mini-event to drive your character unwittingly into the story! Once your application is accepted, you are strongly encouraged to start posting on the forums! This is an important place to start, so that the founders can begin working on adding your character to our website banner. (Your character must have participated in an event at least once in order to be added to the banner.) Please watch the forums for our event schedule, or join our public Skype group for updates on RP! We've received a handful of applications, which is awesome. We're still looking for more- but I believe pretty soon I'll start setting up events and the like! @Seda'li: Snagged you in-game! Thanks for the interest. @Gwendolyn: That sounds awesome to me! Let me know if you'd like to check it out. The application's up and running on the site, aetherwing.enjin.com.

Thank you for posting your concerns and for your thoughtful response. There will be no character-power giving items as rewards, and never will be. I don't like the idea of The Guy Who's Been Here Longest getting All The Best Stuff. My present ideas for the currency rewards are simply little plot-hooks designed by me (or any future administrator on the off chance this idea actually gets big or if I need more than 1 head working on the plot-hook item stuff.) It'd be something along the lines of, you exchange your Black Feathers for an expensive ring. You wear the ring around Ul'dah, and a man claims the ring belonged to his deceased wife. Suddenly, you have a little plot that you weren't expecting to have! But the plot can be resolved at its own time, and after that, you just have a cool ring and a neat story to remember it by. Otherwise I don't plan on restricting ANYTHING. People can create their own plots however they wish or bring in plots from other communities- I really don't care. The idea behind the currency is solely to provide something unexpected that me and/or a future admin would create specifically for that individual. I would, hypothetically, roleplay with them and read about their character enough to know the sort of things that character would have a "fun time" dealing with. Does the character have a fear of Garleans? Maybe his plot-hook item would come with a story involving him having to deal with a Garlean (either on friendly or not-so-friendly terms.) Your concerns about members who don't want to invest as much time getting feathers as other members- well, I see it like this. If they think doing art or stories is tedious, why would they want to join us in the first place? BUt I agree, there is a fine balance to making these plot-hook items easy enough to obtain without working too hard, and not so easy to obtain that I'm spitting out plot ideas all the time to the point where I'd end up coming up with bad ideas because I'm draining my creative resources. The idea is that the currency system isn't going to be the "main feature", rather, a little bit of spice to already-existing storylines that the characters bring to the table, or are generated by our events. I'd love some help setting things up, though I'd love to talk to you a bit more to figure out what kind of experience you have and if you and I are on the same page with this sort of thing. Do you have a skype I could reach you at?
-
@Arcian : Alting is perfectly fine. I don't mind how people want to participate or on which characters, so long as they find something fun within the community to participate in and contribute to. @Oli: These are the sorts of questions I was hoping to receive, and thank you for taking the time to type them out. The reason why I posted here on the RPC was for an interest check, after all. Though I have a lot of strong ideas for the direction I want this community to go in, I am also posting here to gather opinions from people, so that those who are interested in the community can help me build it and shape it into the sort of place they'd want to be a part of. 1) Aye, the vague pitch is mostly due to the fact that I am still gathering interest. The biggest difference from this FC and most others is the currency system, which is most important for me to develop in a balanced, interesting, and fair way before I figure out all the details about the FC/linkshell setting and company itself. I will be ironing out all the details within the next couple of days. 2) The transaction system is meant to reward all forms of participation, both in-game and out-of-game. It's designed to actually give people an incentive to do anything- a tangible reward for being actively involved in the creative hobby of roleplaying, storytelling, and art. For, those three things are part of what makes the game fun for some people, myself included. So, let's say you don't have a lot of time to devote outside of your busy life. If you don't want to log in or RP or anything, you can still earn Feathers (the AWE currency) by posting a quick journal on the forums, or doodling a picture of your character or someone else's character. (I'm thinking of awarding more Feathers for when people draw someone else's character, or making a little comic or RP scene illustration.) The idea is to make a place that no one will forget - a guild which has people actively writing, drawing, and participating in other people's stories. I've been in a lot of guilds in my time, and I've run a couple, too. One thing I've been noticing lately is a general atmosphere in many RP communities where people are spending more time waiting, hoping, and wondering if someone will participate in their story, rather than going out there, working, and cultivating an experience. So the idea is, you get what you give. The actual rewards that Feathers can give you will never come with IC or OOC power, too, because I want everyone to feel like equals in this community. The rewards will have unique items that will have a plot-hook or be written and designed inspired by the character who bought them. So, for participating and roleplaying and creating stories, you'd be rewarded with more ammunition to create more stories. And it's all designed for your character, so there's the element of surprise, too, in not knowing what you're going to receive. That's my way of thinking for the currency system, anyway. Do you think you would find any flaws in this, or do you have any bad experiences from RP guilds who've attempted similar currency systems in the past? 3) My idea for this FC and/or LS community is that everyone is encouraged to run plot events at any time. The developing guild story will be formed by everyone. I ran a few plot events for my previous guilds that I've done over the years, and the way I do it is that I design a script with branching paths, so that the community decisions can affect the outcome of the story. Then, other people are free to add on to that story. One event I ran involved a young, up-and-coming crime lord who bribed children off the street and trained them to be thieves. The company ended up catching the crime lord and some of the children decided to stay with the company because they had no family. Those children became NPCs free for use in other plots. I think, so long as people are active about communicating the kind of events they want to run with existing plot material that has been established in the community so they don't end up running over each other, it should turn out fine. New plot material is of course always open to be established by members for their own events. I really want this community to be flexible, open, and fun. I don't want to do anything that people would consider creativity-stifling. I'm trying to do just the opposite. Let me know if this doesn't sufficiently address your concerns, or if you have any suggestions.

For now there is an application to get into the forum, linkshell and skype group. There aren't currently any art contests, a custom banner, or the other things I mentioned because the group is still so small, but if I get enough people interested to join the linkshell and participate in RP and art, I will start hosting events, contests, and art things. http://aetherwing.enjin.com/recruitment The app is still a work in progress, so I'm not going to be very strict with it. Just filling it out is enough and I'll ask questions/clarifications if need be.

Recently I have started to work on a concept for a future FC and/or linkshell. I wanted to see if there was any interest in it, and if people would find it new, fun, and conductive for creativity. At the moment I'm leaning towards starting with the linkshell/skype/forum way of managing our creative ventures, so no one feels like they have to leave their current FCs. The application on the enjin will still apply for becoming a member. It's called Aetherwing Express. This FC will be designed with artists, creative writers, and heavy roleplayers in mind. I want to see how many of us here are looking for something like this. Especially if you like drawing, please consider it! In order to reward RP, art, and writing, the FC has an IC incentives system that is detailed on the work-in-progress enjin forums. http://aetherwing.enjin.com/home All information about what I wish for this FC/Linkshell to be is listed here on the front page news post. Specific information can be found here. http://aetherwing.enjin.com/forum/m/34889797/viewforum/6463466 In brief, my FC will hope to have the following: Seasonal Events. Every 3 months, AWE will host a “Seasonal Event”. These are two to three week long plot events that use a roll system. Weekly Social RP Events. Every week there will be a new RP scenario to participate in. From tavern talks, mini-plots, investigations, to combat, you never know what you’re going to get during our weekly gatherings. An active Skype group. Throughout the day, you can contact anyone in our public Skype group, chat, confer about RP, and more! Art. AWE encourages our members to partake in visual art, even if you don’t think you’re good at it. The founder of AWE is extremely interested in creating art and comics of other members’ characters, and the same is encouraged for others. When a new person joins the FC, they will get their character added to the illustration on our website header! Creative Writing. There will be creative writing and one-shot prompts for members to participate in that will help developing characters and general participation in the ongoing stories. For example, there will be short-story contests about a situation in your character’s life. There will also be lighthearted contests for crackfics about other people’s characters. (Don’t know what a cracfic is? You will. Hahahahahaha!) RP Currency System. AWE implements a system of its own currency within the FC that members can use to purchase in-character benefits. Our RP currency is awarded to anyone who participates in an event, creates a drawing, writes a character journal, roleplays on the forum, or partakes in any creative, RP-based activity. This is to encourage creativity and participation. Examples of rewards are below. The special FC currency can be redeemed for things such as these. They will all come hand-crafted for your character, with an accompanying plot, or mysterious, unexpected twist. An expensive ring. Weeks later, as you’re shopping in Ul’dah, a man gasps, and claims the ring belonged to his dead wife! A mysterious egg. Who knows what manner of beast will hatch! A hand-crafted weapon or armor, designed specifically to fit your character’s personality! An illustration of your character. Commission IC, get a drawing both IC and OOC! And many more! If this sounds like something you'd like, please let me know here, or go ahead and fill out an application on the site. The FC does not yet exist, but the linkshell does. I need to know if I can actually find some folks who mesh with my ideas that would like to give signatures and become part of the foundation of its future.

[This note is pasted inconspicuously on a wall in an Ul'dahn alley.] "If you have had recent trouble with voidsents, please come to this location at midnight. I am hunting for a particularly elusive creature. Any information one can give is urgently needed. I intend to remove these things from our plane. Any help one can offer will greatly improve the quality of Eorzean life. Even if the information you can give is not about the specific creature I am hunting, I would like to know of them. I will come to this location at midnight every night." [There is no name signed, no date. But the parchment is fresh and recent.] ((OOC: Post here if your character has any crazy ideas to actually do this. I'll arrange a time to meet ya in-game!))

Khyran slumped a little once he realized no one was in immediate danger. The materia loosened in his grasp, but he did not drop it. Lifting his other hand, he ran it through his greasy hair and exhaled slowly. "...Twelve. You're okay. Good..." he whispered, ignoring her comments about his foolish behavior. "...I'm sorry. Is she alright? The... miqo'te..." He didn't seem to notice the state his arm is in, but he obviously has trouble lifting it. His gaze trailed over to the orange as it bounced and rolled on the floor, then up at the girl. "Oi," He said. "Surely you don't plan on going around stabbing people without introducing yourself first..." Words out of the mouth of a man who hadn't *quite* introduced himself, either.
-
Khyran seemed to be teetering on the cusp of consciousness, the materia still clutched in his hand like it, and only it, existed. Sweat beaded his brow. He didn't seem aware of anything that was going on around him, much less the pressuring state of his impromptu traveling companion. It was some time after the food was prepared did the man seem to regain some level of clarity. Recalling where he was, he lurched upright, his arm limp at his side. If the Roe was trying to help him now, she would find his sudden lurching movements difficult to work around. "Ma'am? Are you alright?!" He asked, groggily. To him, not much time had passed. He looked between the Roe and the starved Miqo, his breaths heavy and rapid as he tried to assess a threat from the situation. But he seemed so weak... It was unlikely he could do much else. ((Sorry for the wait. Had a bit of health problems. ))
-
((Sure, that's definitely plausible. Khy isn't his usual self lately, so I'm sure his work could get sloppy. Also you guys are all lovely <3)) The poor Miqo'te girl would feel an intense pain in her scalp, and those memories of the day she fought the pirates at the urging of her beautiful friend would be slipping away with it. But... something else happens, as that memory disappears. A different memory slips in. Flashes. Fragments. An arm full of lilies. A voice, that says, "DAMN YOU TO THE SEVEN HELLS, KHYRAN!" And then a crowd of people, all shouting at once, "MURDERER!" A storm. A shipwreck. The sensation of drowning. Khyran breaks contact. In the real world, his hand comes away from the Miqo'te's head, his hand clenched around a round, gleaming crystal. Materia. His breaths are heavy and ragged. He falls backwards onto the wagon.
-
((Gonna wait for Lin to post, don't wanna get too far ahead without them! Sorry if this kind of zeroed in on two characters- should be plenty to deal with once Khy breaks contact. Also <3 Sig))
-
Blood rolls down Khy's injured arm, limp at his side. The other is raised, firmly latched upon the Miqo'te girl's head. His fingers press deeply into her scalp. Even as the pugilist slams the assailant, Khy's grip is held fast. Not once did the man make a sound, any hint of emotion on his face. There's just nothing. "Don't hurt her, ma'am." He urges to the Roegadyn. "...Let me handle this." He looks down at the Miqo'te girl's face. "You're sleepy." He murmurs, his voice dull and dreamlike. "Your mind is going blank." Should the mind-mage's strange magic work... the Miqo'te will find a strange buzzing in her head, a warmth spreading from one end of her scalp to the other, seeping into her skull. She will find her mind, perhaps against her will, clearing itself... as if she were falling asleep. "Now... where is your will to fight?" A voice would permeate through her thoughts, if the mage was successful in getting this far. He was looking for something. An intruder in her head. "I don't think you need that, now... do you?" He was looking for a memory. Where did she learn how to fight? Where did she learn the means to wield a blade against strangers? If he could just find that memory, and take it out of her head... then she wouldn't be a threat at all... Would she?
-
He doesn't try to dodge. He would let the knives hit, both in his arms. He wouldn't move or make a sound. When she's upon him he would make a grab for her weapon, to clasp the blade in a gloved hand. The other hand would launch towards her head. If he succeeds, he will have her forehead in a vice grip... All this, assuming his Roegadyn companion wouldn't think faster... ((Forum rp is tough for high tension. Hope I'm doing ok. If he grabs her head and gets away with it, something weird will probably happen to her which I would definitely need to explain, but I'll just inch this ahead a few split seconds and see what you guys wanna do about it ))

Khy withdrew his handful of Gil. When the cart-master turned around again, he spied the jacket... Then stuffed the Gil within a pocket on said jacket, ignoring the journal therein. "Not going to eat your rations, either." He said in a low voice. "I'm from here. Was just taking a trip back home. Now I'm leaving." The rain-soaked stranger didn't seem to have a clue what was going on until it was happening. The miqo'te was suddenly there, a cart wheel suddenly damaged, chocobos squawking and cargo flying. He, too, made a jarring collision with the ground. His thin body smashed into the wood and he gave a quiet groan. The cart master was telling him to run. He scoffed. He was tired of running. He pushed himself upright and faced the desperate, starved girl. "That's enough of that," he said. "If you want something, you'll take it from me. Leave this merchant be. You will regret it if you lay one hand on her. You don't know what I can do to you if you don't heed me." Expressionless. He spoke in a dangerously calm tone. Given his physique , it was not likely he could do much in the way of harm... But something about the way he said it presented an idea of finality.
-
"Wineport," he echoed, then nodded once. With considerable effort, he climbed up into the back of the cart and settled himself down on a crate. Idly, he rifled through his side satchel and took out a loose coinpurse. He pinched out a couple gil and held it out to her. "Not going to eat your cargo," he said, "but this should suffice for transportation, aye?" He didn't give a name.
-
Khyran stopped at the sound of rolling wheels upon the road not far from shore. He squinted at the sight of the chocobo-drawn cart, against the rain and sand blowing in his face. "Perhaps," he answered as he examined the Seawolf, his expression detached and cool. "Where are you going?"
-
Costa del Sol blazed with rumors. "Somebody tore down the poster." "I head them say he's back." "But he died five years ago." "He was at the festival. Stalking Lily." "She's a disturbed child. She was seeing things. Probably a fellow who looked like him." "But the poster." "That thing was years old." "And so are the transgressions. Just leave it." "You don't understand. If he's still alive... he's got something coming to him." Somewhere up the shore and far away, a man walked alone. His robes, several sizes too big for him, billowed in the wind. Stormclouds rolled with the waves. Rain applauded the sand and water. Soon, he stopped, looking out at the roiling waves with a detached, amused look on his face. "Selfish." He scoffed at the sea, then smiled. "Not sure what I can do about that, Eduard. Everyone's selfish." He worked his hands into his pockets, bowed his head, and kept walking. "I can't do a thing. Not a thing." Wineport wasn't far. But it was farther, if you walked. Perhaps days, at this pace. It wasn't like he had anywhere else to be.
-
Khyran looked over his shoulder at the approaching strangers. At the sound of the fellow's forgetfulness, he quirked a brow. A look of great interest spread on his features and he gave a little smile, wide enough to show his crooked teeth. But he didn't inquire anything. He simply said to the Au Ra, "you might be the only one here with sufficient medical experience. Unless our shouting friend has managed to conjure anyone better."
-
Khyran gave the man a flat look. "...Oh." He said. "Hmm." Beyond the faintest twitch of an uncomfortable look on his face, he seemed content to let that topic bury itself. "It isn't a matter of altruism." Khy replied. "In truth, I believe the man could be a potential client. I am a doctor, myself, but on an entirely different caliber than of physical matters." He tapped his head. "I'm a mind-healer. Any sort of trauma one might experience from a shipwreck is prime territory for my line of work." Before he knew it, the fellow was shouting at the top of his lungs- something that could very well be heard down the beach and quite a ways away. Khyran, himself, stood there looking completely unphased- merely a detached sense of curiosity.
-
(Khy has a beard! :B No worries though!) Khyran observed the man in turn, single eye trailing over bumps and bruises, yet his expression remained quite detached. "It does not appear as if she did you much good in the end, anyway." Khy commented. He gave a quick, single-syllable chuckle at the comment of his health, but he just shook his head. He eyed the offered pipe, gave a single shouldered shrug, and took it. He lifted the pipe to his mouth and took in a long draw, blowing it out to the side. His eye drifted shut as he savored the lingering flavor. "Aye. Thanks." He handed the pipe back. "But it is not I that is in need of medical assistance. Nothing immediate, anyway." He looked over his shoulder to see if the Au Ra was still coming. "A stranger and I found a poor sap washed up on the beach. Must've been a fisherman, probably lost his ship from the recent storm. I came on ahead."
