Ah! I never thought about the cat idea, either. Both of them are good explanations! I'm slowly warming to the idea of it being their /sit animation, I guess! ...Though I still think it'd be uncomfortable for them if they were to sit around a camp fire for two hours sharing ghost stories. Or, well, it'd be uncomfortable for me!

I imagine they can leave. I can't see them making it a permanent choice, just in case Free Companies go inactive and such. The thing with Free Companies is, as far as I'm aware, there's certain content that you can only do as a Free Company. Examples include the Company Housing and such. Which is why people will want to be quite picky with the Free Company they go with. The Linkshell, on the other hand, gives you a way to stay in touch with many other plays (much like a guild chat), but you're not tied into just one. It depends if you want to experience the certain content (I'm not sure what else will be Free Company required yet) with those certain people, or if you're happy on just being able to talk in a channel similar to guild chat, really! Some people might want to focus on PvP or End-game PvE and join a Free Company that specifically targets those areas. Others might want to join a certain RP Free Company to experience their HQ (Company Housing) and attempt content with them, etc. A Linkshell means people who have different aims can still all be together in a single channel and talk as if they were a guild. So if you've all agreed on certain content you want to do at end-game, then perhaps Free Company is the way to go! If you know you have people into many different things, then perhaps Linkshell! It's not 100% certain how different PvE and PvP will be, but in most MMOs these days a 'divide' does seem to happen at end-game on people's focus.

I adore this latest piece. I love seeing the different stages of a piece of work, so this one is great for me. You have a stunning art style and I can't wait to see even more of these!

I actually really like this idea! It's a great way to show others which direction your character is looking to go and if people's characters would fit in with interacting with them (and also when!)! My issue is (and this is because I'm lazy) it will probably need a lot of updating after every few RP sessions and that's something I'm absolutely terrible with! Come launch I might actually give this a go and see how I do with keeping it up to date. It'd become very interesting to see how your character's direction has changed and what caused it to change all on one page later down the line!

Going to echo Aysun here! Until I know more about the different Free Companies on the server and such, I'm going to hold out on joining one. When I finally do decide on one, I'm going to be very picky. It might be for RP, or it might be to experience other sides of the game. I just can't decide until the situation actually arrives. The bonus of making your group a linkshell is that people aren't restricted to just one, so it opens up your option of getting more members overall!

From one ex-SWTOR RPer to you, welcome! Looking forward to seeing you in-game and getting to interact with some Roleplay! If you ever feel like giving RP a go before release, feel free to send me a PM! I'm up for shooting some ideas around.

Hello! Welcome to the site! You're more than welcome to Roleplay with me! The offer's open, so shoot me a PM if you ever feel like it! I also own GW2, so we can give it a shot over there, or on skype/through PMs if you'd like! Let me know if you're up for a go! I don't mind helping you get started. Enjoy your stay!

Welcome to the site, both of you! Looking forward to getting to RP with you both and witness your character's banter in person!

I'm hoping, with the addition of the Lore forums to the official forums, that they'll add details like average height, weight and lifespans for each race. Until then, I'm presuming (for age only!) that, while there might be slight differences, most of the races age in a similar fashion. It might be completely wrong, and if so I'll change it right away, but looking at the anatomy of the races and such I imagine the lifespans are similar to Hyur/Humans. Except Elezen, who clearly have an extra heart hidden in their huge necks.

Hello, everyone! I've already started poking around the forums but figure I should properly introduce myself in an effort to get to know people better! So, here I go. The name's Luke, or Luka (cwutididthere?) and I'm a teacher by day, Lalafell by free time. I'm a huge fan of the Final Fantasy franchise, having played every numbered title. I even finished them all, except for 5, because I hate Bartz. I first discovered my love for Roleplay about 9 years ago when I stumbled upon a forum and began taking part in RP threads. Ever since, I've been addicted and it's always been my main focus when joining a community/MMO. I've also played quite a few MMOs in my lifetime, including FFXI, SWTOR, Age of Conan, WoW and Aion. I played FFXI the longest, however I unfortunately never got to experience RP back then as I wasn't randomly assigned to the unofficial RP server when I made my character. Boo! I played FFXIV 1.0 briefly as well, reaching the early 40's on another Lalafell character. Unfortunately I couldn't push myself any further, and I once again didn't realise there was an RP community for the game so simply quit. I'm back with a vengeance, however, and found out about you guys earlier this year! With ARR coming soon, I figured it's time to get involved with the RP community. I'm super excited for ARR to launch and even more so now that I'll be able to RP while playing. I did RP back in the other MMOs I listed (except FFXI), but honestly no concept excites me more than the idea of RPing in an actual Final Fantasy world. If anyone wants to arrange some RP or discuss some lore or anything, feel free to send me a PM! I always like a good chat. I'm no lore expert, either, so it'll help me learn! Looking forward to getting to know all of you and hopefully getting some RP started! Here, have a moog- IT'S A BOMB. :bomb:

I would actually adore a card game that can be played out in the world. The fabled Gold Saucer is supposedly going to have mini games and such, but (and I always wanted this in XI) being able to sit down with friends and play one of many Card games from the series has always been something I'd love to do. And to RP it out at the same time would make it even more amazing. That's what my fingers are crossed for! Oh, and I am -really- hoping for a type of 'wardrobe' feature. For both RP and just to avoid looking like a multi-coloured clown when out adventuring. Nobody likes Lalafell in subligars.

It's really nice of you to share Gerik's techniques on keeping cool. Really nice. This thread turns me into such a child. -
Welcome to the site! It sounds like you're looking for something similar to myself, so I'm sure there's other like-minded people around! Looking forward to seeing you in game come release! :moogle:

Yeah, it's hard to tell but it looks like they're both squatting to me. ...I'm not sure how I feel about that being the male Miqo'te sitting animation, though. Wouldn't that get uncomfortable? Plus it's not really sitting. Who knows! Maybe it's a new animation? Maybe we're going to see /squat? Also: Train(?) tracks in Thanalan!

This thread is an amazing idea! I need to find the "What will you drop" one, too. --------- Stats Luka Paluka: Spawned by investigating the 'small campfire' near a random lake in the Black Shroud during the evening. Job: White Mage Arena: Misty Lake. An arena filled with many small islands separated by a very shallow lake between each of them. HP: 15,000 Elemental Affinity: Water Special Abilities Flee! - Luka rushes away from his opponents, travelling to an island across the arena. He is immune to damage and any crowd control/snares during this ability. "Ah! Run away!" - Luka Paluka Holy Tide - Used just after Flee! Luka channels the element of water and causes the lake throughout the arena to become increasingly violent. The lake will slow movement speed and also cause high amounts of damage to any characters that step in it. It will also destroy two islands at random. He will always target the island he was previously standing on. Panic! - Luka will panic when he receives a lot of damage in a short period of time. He will stun the entire party for ten seconds and begin casting several healing spells in a row. He will cast a strong healing spell first, a slightly weaker one second, and so on. He will continue casting until a successful interrupt is landed on him. Interrupts have a 100% success chance during this ability. "Ow, ow, ow! Stop it!" - Luka Paluka Second Chance - At 5% HP, Luka will stun the entire party with a blast of magic. He will then heal himself to 30% HP and begin to cast Holy Tide over and over. Random Spells Cure(s) - Luka will attempt to cast a strong Cure spell on himself every thirty seconds. This can be interrupted. Stone - Luka will summon a rock of stone and hurl it at a random opponent. Aero Field - Luka will summon an Aero Field on three random islands in the arena. Aero Fields last ten seconds and deal high amounts of damage to anyone standing on the same island. Summon Water Servant - Luka will summon a servant from the lake beneath the arena. The servant will periodically cast Cure spells on Luka and enfeeble spells on their primary target. Passive Traits No auto-attack. Immune to silence. Susceptible to Slow (Increases cast times) Phase 1 At the start of the battle, Luka will plead with the party to leave him alone and to leave while they still can. When the party moves from the starting island to any others, he casts an instant Holy Tide and destroys the starting island completely. Following that, he will only cast spells from his random list until about 75%, at which point he will use Flee! and unleash his first real Holy Tide. The trick is to avoid the islands he will target with the ability and jumping over the lake to reach him to continue combat. Should a player fall into the lake, it's likely they will die from the amount of damage and their slowed movement. After this point, he will begin using Panic! should the party deal more than 7% of his health within a twenty second window. This part of the fight is mostly about stamina and avoiding mechanics rather than a DPS race. Should he actually cast Panic! it is key for the party to interrupt him as soon as the stun has worn off, or else he will heal himself to 100% health. Throughout the rest of the fight, Luka will continue with his 'random' spell list until he reaches 50%. He will once again cast Flee! and Holy Tide, followed again at 25%. Phase 2 When finally falling down to 5%, Luka will cast Second Chance and move to the middle of the arena, where he will hover above the lake and heal himself to 30% of his full health. He will begin casting Holy Tide over and over, targeting islands at the edge of the arena first and getting closer to the middle as time goes on. The fight changes from a stamina battle to a damage race at this point, as if Luka's 30% HP isn't cleared before he destroys the final islands in the middle of the arena, the party will be defeated. Party formation / Tips Luka needs a balanced party of support and attack, with people who are able to control their damage without going crazy until they need to. It is a simple fight for both the tank and healer and the majority of the damage comes from player made mistakes with Aero Fields and Holy Tide. The healer must be prepared to heal random targets that take damage from Stone, and the tank must be prepared to grab hate on the Summoned Water Servants. Damage Dealers should also take down Water Servants ASAP, as too many will cause the party to suffer a large amount of negative status ailments and for Luka to have an endless supply of cures. ------ That was super fun to come up with, haha! Great idea for a thread!

For Luka I'd go with chocolate biscuit covered in caramel sauce and served in a waffle or wafer basket. Basically something incredibly sweet and sickening. And also adds five years on to your hips. Though I'm not sure Luka does so.

I've RPed a few villains before - some which are made just for the role and some which just develop into a villain over time. The only thing I'd really do from now on is that, unless for an event / storyline, I wouldn't make a character with the intent of being evil myself. Saying that, depending on how things play out IC when the game launches, I could totally see my own character becoming villainous. Broken hearts, betrayed trust and such can all turn the nicest people into a 'villain'. So I guess I'm not entirely sure if I'll be playing a villain yet, but it's definitely on the cards!

New server or old server for new player?
Adventurer replied to shockwave2493's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Not to mention a few people will likely reroll to join the RP community and/or start fresh in the new world! I'm one of those people! Though I did only get to the early 40's on my highest, so my commitment to my older characters isn't as high. Whether on Balmung or an 'official' RP server, I'm sure with the release of ARR the lowbie population will be fine for finding groups and socialising. Most people are viewing this as a new MMO launch, so it should bring in a lot of lowbies at first! -

Excuse me while I just mop my drool up from the floor. Ahem. Amazing work, I have to say! I'm adoring the fusions you're doing with RPC characters and the Final Fantasy traits. It's really clever and so far they've all turned out amazing. Keep it up! -
Welcome back!

Whee! Time to get started on these forums, I think! I had to think this over for quite a while, but I finally settled on pansexual. The reason for this is the plan is for Luka to be a rather young Lalafell, and (despite his size!) I feel like his attraction could honestly be to any race and gender - which I admit may be rather amusing at times, but I am planning for him to develop as a character that would focus far more on personality and attitude. We'll see, though! This could always change.
