The Linkshell never really got off the ground sadly. The concept was created before Stormblood was announced, and there does seem to be some interest. I'd be willing to start it up again. Also, if people are interested in an Othardian underworld, my FC Rubytide Menagerie is recruiting.

balmung [LS] Doman/Othard RP?
Tonberry Prince replied to Tonberry Prince's topic in Chronicled Connections
Well, judging by the lack of replies and as there doesn't appear to be a listing of any Doman themed linkshells in the list, I made a linkshell named Kioku, which means Remembrance or Memory. Details can be found here: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=15370 -
KIOKU Rememberance Kioku is a linkshell for refugees from Othard (Doma and beyond) and their friends who want to band together to further their cause. While grateful for the assistance provided when they first arrived, some of them seeks to further themselves beyond simple laborers in Revenant's Toll. The mission for Kioku is the unite the displaced peoples of Othard and work towards a better future. LS Information Master: Isshin Inuhoshi Leaders: -open- LS Rules Kioku is a hybrid IC/OOC shell. Opposite of OOC conventions, IC Communications in the shell can be done by using brackets such as << "Hello? Can anyone hear me?" >> Non bracketed chat can be used to organize RP, discuss lore or out of character information. IC Communication is prioritized, so if IC communications starts occurring, OOC chatter should be put on hold until that has finished. Besides that, the typical "don't be a dick" rules apply. Be courteous, no personal attacks, drama should be avoided in the channel (take it to tells)

I'm looking for a Doman/Othard Based RP linkshell to join. If there are no active ones, I'd be willing to create one to gather together roleplayers from the East. If interested, please reply or shoot me a message in-game: Wolfram Sharpe.

balmung Looking for Scholars/Scholar RP
Tonberry Prince replied to Mikel Hunter's topic in Chronicled Connections
Galen (rem)Wolfe is a aetheric scholar who's focus is currently primals and voidsent, and the eradication thereof. He also enjoys discussions on aether, schools of magic, and long walks on the beach. -
I want to preface this that most of my ramblings are inferences and theories based on events occurring in-game. I think it'd be helpful to define what magic is. Which I don't think there is an official definition of what magic is, I'll just say that magic is the manipulation of aether. I'd like to address some of your bullet points: Aether Source and Quantity: I'd have to disagree with your statement that each school of magic has different sources of aether. Aether is aether. Aether can be found in the world around you, from yourself, or from crystals. Each has unique advantages and drawbacks. Ambient aether. Most magic is used from ambient aether. However, it's not as concentrated or potent. So without special implements (Moenbryda's scepter, Tupsimati, etc.) your spells won't be your average run-of-the-mill adventurer-class spell. Aether used from yourself is more potent. However, using aether drawn from yourself is very risky as it's your lifesource. Use all of your aether and you're dead. (reference the Conjurer class quests) Aether from crystals are potent, but limited by how much a crystal can store and the ability to cart around crystals. School of Magic Actually, during the initial release of FFXIV, Conjurers could cast damage-dealing spells from the six elements: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Conjurer_(Final_Fantasy_XIV)/Legacy I see the different schools as more philosophies versus rigid training. Conjury is a more spiritual practice, where Arcanima is more scientific. Each philosophy trains your mind in a different way on how to practice it's form of magic. The magic spell (or manipulation of aether) would be taught as a "prayer" in conjury, a geometric pattern/formula in arcanima, etc. etc. Focus/Weapon I don't think there's a lot of information about how foci hold up regarding using magic. There's only two instances I can think of: 1) Tupsimati exploding when defending against Bahamut's assault during the Battle of Carteneau, and 2) E-Sumi-Yan mentioning how he would find it difficult to wield Y'shtola's new staff after certain events in Heavensward. So, I think it's safe to infer that when too much aether is channeled into a focus, it will explode. Our only example though is Tupsimati, and it exploded after defending against an elder primal. So, you'd need a -significant- amount of aether to cause a focus to explode. Granted, we can probably infer that Tupsimati was a top-of-the-line level of focus. I hope you find these musings useful. I'm very interested in the theory and application of magic in-game, and wish there would be more lore about how magic actually works.

Is this still active, and who would be a good contact to get an invite as I'm not having any luck finding the listed leaders.

Honestly, they should take a page from the real world. You purchase a plot. You pay taxes on the plots. If you can't pay them, they get repossessed. You're free to buy/sell plots as you see fit.

Here's something to keep in mind. I used to be a GM. Not for SquareEnix/Final Fantasy XIV, but an online MMORPG. You may think a GM is a pretty cool character, knowing everything...but in reality, we are just your low level customer service representative. And just like most CSR's your results will vary. Also, this is NA SquareEnix customer support you're interacting with. SE NA Support is probably the worst customer service experience I've ever had to deal with.

"Mael..........and. .........read me?" The Maelstrom duty officer winced as the static filled transmission blared through the linkpearl on his ear. "......strom command! .......an ......ical ......ergency........res........please?! This is.........Sto.....wyb " The duty officer tried to respond. "This is Maelstrom Command. We can barely read you. Please state your emergency." The only response the duty officer received was more static. He turned and looked towards the arcanist who shared the Duty Bridge with her. "Is there anything we can do to clear this static up." The arcanist was already flipping through the book. "Aye, lass. With the right attunement, I can use the aetheryte network to boost the linkshell's aetheric gain and transmission." With a gesture, he started channeling aether towards the linkpearl. "Try it now, I wont' be able to hold it for very long before I'll burn out." The duty officer nodded, and quickly got to work. "This is Maelstrom Command. Please repeat your last message." A somewhat incredulous voice came through, no longer static filled. "This is the captain of the Stoic Merlwyb. We have a medical emergency. We will be arriving in port in about four bells after high noon. We rescued a prisoner from a imperial galleon we raided, but he's in poor condition. He also seems to be causing some sort of aetheric disturbance; our linkpearls are nearly useless, and he's going through the worst case of aether sickness I've seen. He needs a doctor, and probably an arcanist when we arrive in port." "We copy that, Stoic Merlwyb. We'll have someone standing by when you dock. Maelstrom Command out." The duty officer replied, finishing jotting down the notes. The arcanist let out a sigh of relief, and let the aetheric tether drop. He wiped off the beads of sweat from his forehead. "Can you be there?" the duty officer asked the arcanist. "Nay, lass, I'm out on patrol. I'll pass the world along though, we'll get someone out there." The arcanist replied.

Hello there! I'm Wolfeheart, and I just moved to Balmung to enjoy roleplaying. I've had some experience roleplaying primarily in NeverWinter Nights persistent worlds (both as player & DM), some pen & paper, and some WoW RPing. I enjoy heavily plot/story driven RP, character development, and sometimes some silly RP. I'm hoping to run a small introductory event tomorrow night to introduce myself to the community (which I hope a few people would attend.) About myself: I'm a early thirties gay guy in the midwest. I'm about to start training to get my CDL to become a regional/OTR trucker! I hope to see some of you in-game soon!
