I wish they would clarify what goes into belief in the dusk mother. I don't know what I should be saying about it on a Xaela character if asked about it.

I don't think it ever comes up outside of that one quest, which is why people go straight to that one when they need to cite that. I'm sure it varies based on location, not unlike real life. Those two from the quest mention being from some village that no one has ever heard of. Ishgard I am sure looks down on interracial relationships. Gridania too, maybe. Ul'dah and Limsa I feel would care less about it. Limsa even has a couple of hooker NPC trying to pick up customers of different races and there is even a Roegadyn male being mugged by a hyur and her friend after he presumably tried to pick them up at the bar. As for viability of interracial children, they are possible. Rare, but possible with a high possibility of mutations, if I remember correctly. I would honestly just urge roleplayers to stay away from it even if they decide to go with one of the combinations supported by in game appearance. 80% of the time it adds nothing to your character outside of giving them an abnormal appearance. You could achieve the same results as a normal looking character. I am not saying that everyone that roleplays a mixed race character did it for bad reasons. I am just saying that 80% of them have.

I've had similar conversations with some friends about it before but do you think that Au Ra were just always around in Eorzea before they became available for play? I don't mean as anyone of importance but as just random people you might just see around. People like travelers, sellswords, the odd merchant, maybe even bandits. I don't imagine there was a huge population of them but there must have been some just kind of hanging around for whatever reason. I assume they were just never addressed since they were not available to play and had no character models to represent them in game but what do you guys think?

I would go as far as to say that they don't even have had to be taught by anyone unless you specifically want it that way. Unless you intend on copying the mechanics of monk down to the skill names, you could simply say that his parents/grandparents developed a similar technique on their own and taught it to him. Believe me, there are plenty of more off the wall explanations for skills and powers in the roleplay community. That said, I have never leveled monk and have not seen any of the cut scenes from the quests so I do not know if there is anything preventing someone from copying or developing similar techniques on their own. All I know is that it isn't an absolute no go like white mage is.

I'll be honest, I was somewhat disappointed when I opened this thread because for some reason I was expecting to see the song by Kate Bush translated into Roegadyn.

What do you think caused the mass exodus of the Xaela? Do you think the Garleans started making a more active effort to police the tribes? I was thinking that maybe the Garleans only showed up in Xaela in recent years but I think they might have been around for longer.

I am curious as to what degree the Garleans have a presence in Xaela lands. Are they making an active effort to crush all the tribes and/or reign them in or do they have a small presence there that is more like patrols and maybe the odd outpost? I am trying to figure out this aspect for my character's backstory so anything helps.

I don't see why you couldn't have an Au Ra in Eorzea before the mass exodus. Would be rare? Sure. Would it be impossible? Not at all. It's especially possible with a Raen since the Domans used to trade with Limsa. You could simply say that your character got on one of the boats (for trade related reasons or otherwise) and just decided to stay. I guess it gets a bit trickier if you stray outside of Limsa and the surrounding area though. You would see all sorts of people at a port town but not so much outside of them.

On a somewhat related note, I have been wondering how recently the Dotharls massacred them. If a Dotharl was separated from the greater tribe for 2-3 years would they have missed it or have been there for it? I highly doubt I will ever end up rping with a Hotgo but I figure it's worth knowing just in case.

Sometimes I feel like I borderline lore break with my use of thaumaturgy, especially since I think of it in the 1.0 version rather than the current umbral and astral, fire and ice, form. Was 1.0 thaumaturgy completely retconned or did they just sweep it under a rug? I don't know, but in any case, I like the creative liberties that version leaves room for since it seems capable of much more. Even so, I only use it as a frame work since I like to have my characters develop their own spells.

To piggyback off of this thread, I would like to ask if arcanists are only capable of summoning a carbuncle or if they can summon whatever they can design. It is my understanding that a carbuncle is just an arcane construct. I assume this means that they could just make a different construct in whatever shape they wanted. The Limsan arcanists use a carbuncle because it is useful for their job as a customs agent. Maybe an arcanist who does not work as a customs agent can use something better suited for their tasks.

Personally I feel like not everything needs an intricate explanation for looking the way it does. A weapon can look different because it was custom made or any other mundane explanation. It doesn't have to be crafted by ancient space demons from across the sea or something. Unless you want it to be, in which case go for it. No explanation is too crazy if you want fancy lore behind your weapon. You might look kind of silly one day when you put it aside so you can use a cooler weapon glamour you found, in which case you will have to think of an even crazier backstory for your weapon to justify the change ICly.

Female Roegadyn seem to attract a...certain kind of player. A type of player commonly referred to as a "futa", a commonly seen type of erotic roleplayer. People might be reluctant to talk to you if they suspect you might be one of these kinds of players. This can usually be avoided by not wearing the hempen top in conjunction with the starter pants, a common uniform that these kinds of players employ. Other things that might help are not being level 1, not having the little sprout by your name, not referring you yourself as "highest quality" via auto translate, and not mentioning the bulge barely contained in your tight leather pants or bikini bottom in your search comment. Though I am not saying that all female Roegadyn are played by these kinds of people, as there are plenty of sensible roleplayers that play female Roegadyn, it is still something that is all too commonly seen, leaving the race/gender combo with a certain reputation for being well endowed where they should not be. Male Roegadyn have nothing to worry about. They have the bara community at their back, a normally jolly community of similarly built brothers, which is only unfortunate if you do not wish to partake in bara festivities that include but are not limited to posing in leopard print underwear, flexing in leopard print underwear, and discussing workout routines with your brothers while wearing leopard print underwear. Please note that the bara community is not restricted to Roegadyn only and has a sizeable sub community of Highlander males as well, which may be a minus or a plus depending on how you feel about being in your underwear around men who are smaller than you. I feel now as though I should also note that I did not feel as though a "futa community" existed in a solid enough state to be worth mentioning as most futa seem to be independent and adverse to holding social gatherings as the bara community does. That is not to say that they do not have social gatherings at all and may in fact have them in more secluded locations. I do not know. I am simply an outsider reporting my own observations to OP. Depending on the husband (or maybe wife, I don't know)'s occupation, you can just say they went missing or something. It conveniently gets them out of the picture without killing them in the off chance that they do come back. A lot of people seem to play the adventurer type and I'm sure more than a few of those guys go missing for various reasons.

Makes me wonder how many races have their own language and how often those languages are used in daily life. Would the Ishgardians say and do everything in (not)French when not dealing with outsiders? On a semi related topic, would the average Xaela even know how to speak common? I have seen everything from eloquent to caveman-like with Xaela speech and wondered which would be the more "correct" interpretation.
