I am sorry I ever posted on this thread. It is very clear that my views and the way that I like to RP are no longer accepted by most (at least the ones posting) All of those points are valid ones. It is just time that I moved on.

linkshell interest guage - repeatable content as IC canon...
Moonfire replied to Imsey's topic in RP Discussion
I am already commited to a Free Company but LOVE this idea. This is exactly the kind of thing that will get me out of RP lull, seeing groups like this. To me this is the heart of RP. Will you guys also be completing quests and such together in an IC fashion as well? -
The part that I don't get is, Why learn something OOCly if it doesn't fit into your character? Isn't that what alts are for? And is does it make sense lore wise to have multiple classes or multiple jobs? I one conversation the Guild leader NPC talks about how dedication is so important but then at level 10 they tell you that you can join other guilds. Also to delve further into a "Job" you need at least two classes. Is it explained when you start training for the job why you need both? Or is it just a mechanic to keep people from leveling too fast and really has no lore baring? Hate to burst your bubble but you need to be a conjurer to be a paladin so he is gonna have some magic under his belt. Unless you chose to ignore it ICly. Which I don't get but to each his own I guess. I agree with this to some extent. Given that it is only two jobs I think that is reasonable. I think our characters shouldn't fit into a "real life earth" model. However this needs to be used carefully. Knowing everything all at once seems to be a bit over the top. Dabbling is one thing but to use lvl 50 spells isn't really dabbling. If you really want to level all jobs ICly though I think there are ways to do it. Maybe your character fails really bad at being a White Mage and even results in someone close to them dieing. Then he gives it up and moves on, etc. Basically don't have them all at once and have a good story/reason to go with the change. I get that. But then why bother to lvl other things OOCly on that character? It breaks immersion to others who are around you RPing. They know you are an RPer and start a conversation. Then you say "sorry I don't lvl ICly." kind of bursts their bubble and throws everything off. Granted you have to learn to deal with this because not everyone RPs. But it is kind of a shame to get the same thing from RPers. This made me think about some things...A day and night cycle in the game and therefore time in the game itself is short. Technically our characters would age faster. One quest might take days. Figuring all that in then by the time you train something all the way up to 50, it seems logical that the character has put in the time needed. However if you used this method to explain training then you should also use it as a matter of aging your character. Using this probably wouldn't work well though because they would age too quickly. I am not exactly sure why I brought this up but I guess I just wanted to throw it out there.

My thoughts exactly.

I couldn't agree more. I agree with this also

Really what it boils down to is my RP experience is the game in it's entirety. I can work with ignoring the part of the personal story that effects me, but not as it effects the game. For instance, in my mind everything in the personal story happens, just the one hero is actually more of an unknown person than yourself. This in itself doesn't work though because everyone is in a different place with in the personal story and the devs don't and really can't give a straight "this is where you are in the timeline of the story." I am a firm believer of RPing what you actually play and have as per the game. If you have a are playing a warrior in PvE then in RP you should be something close to that. If you have a tattoo, then you traveled through time and if you don't you didn't. Yet I want to be open minded as to other people's RP, but it is difficult to find the line where it only effects them and it effects the server's RP as a whole. The mechanics allow for multi class and switching but it doesn't make sense if you read how "elite" it is to join the guild and how much dedication it takes. In general I have always played ICly for the most part (repeat dungeons got a lil weird but I rolled with it.) but the way current MMOs seem to roll that is getting harder and harder to do. Back when I had the most fun playing/RPing in MMOs, on an RP server 90% of the people played as their character all the time (much like in a table top or LARP setting ) yet now it is difficult to find a group that consistently do so even in an organised RP community. And with how much within the game mechanics you have to ignore or find a way to make it work, it is really no wonder. I guess it got the point of me either changing the way that I RP or taking a break from it. I was trying the first but it seems forced and unnatural so I am taking the latter route at this point. Starting on an RP server does seem to be a good option because in time I may learn to change my own style.

I think that I may have to walk away from RP in this game. Some of this is the developers fault and some is the nature of current RPers. The game mechanics and the RP lore just don't mesh well. And it really bothers me. I originally posted a lot more with specific examples but I didn't like my tone and decided to delete it to keep things positive. Bottomline...It just isn't what it used to be and I am not really wanting to adapt to the new thing it has become. I wish everyone the best! Not sure which server I am going to play on at this point so if I don't see you, take care. (PS- sorry if this is in the wrong place.)

I see the message that the vote will happen on July 1st afternoon. I am curious how long the pole will be open? I think that a couple days would be ideal. This allows everyone a chance to get to the site and vote. Nevermind I noticed that it is stated that it will last 24 hours in the other post by Kylin.

Nothing is worse then voting without solid information. I don't see what the harm is in letting a discussion like this happen as long as everyone stays civil. From what I have heard Gilgamesh has a bunch of people that don't want RPers. This might be the case on other servers too though. TBH aside from the RP event I haven't seen much RP on Gilgamesh. I imagine that it is a little early to judge how to RP and community will be on a server at this point. Rather than basing your search on where the RPers are (because some aren't RPing in beta) , I would base it on which server is welcoming and low population.

I would suggest that you two find a hobby that you can both do together BUT also set aside time for separate interests as well. MMOs and games are a different animal then they were before. I, myself, have been experiencing a bit of a let down from them. Maybe it is time to move on but only you can answer that. Either way it needs to be for YOU and what YOU want. Compromise only goes so far.

I am 37 year old mother with two kids and they are currently my full time job I have a huge variety of jobs that I have had. Overall I find people interesting and enjoy meeting new people. I have two associate degrees so I have some college level writing classes in my background but don't really consider myself to be a skilled writer. I started playing table top pen and paper in 95' and have played GURPs, D&D 2nd and 3rd additions, Palladium: Rifts, and now currently White Wolf: Vampire the Vigil. Had some experience with 2 different LARPs from 95'-2001. Started playing MMOs in 2001 with DAoC (miss that game!) and have tried most of the mainstream ones out there. I tend to be very old school when it comes to RP and like to stay in character as much as possible (blame the LARPer in me.)

I don't think gender of the player should matter at all as long as they can get into the character. I have seen both played really well and both played not so well. And if they aren't RPers then it matters even less. I am a female and personally I play both. My male characters tend to be very chivalrous to the point of not really interested in woman or gay. I have tried to play the male that is interested in females and it just doesn't work.

Torn Sky's Art & Commissions (also open for requests!)

Very nice work -
Ok Kylin, now you really confused me  I said in my post that I got the table/party concept. I think you misunderstood me. All of my questions were geared toward the mingling time or one on one which I thought you said were going to be handled with /tell So the mingling part is all in /say? EDIT: after re-reading the flier I see where my mistake was. I get it now, one on one is just for the dance contest not the entire rest of the event. My bad lol. Just ignore me. Thanks bye! *hides under the table, completely embarrassed**
