I've seen many date auctions done before; A story auction would be really cool. As in; Participant A would like to do and needs 2-3 people to run the rp session. I think it sounds like you are trying to do both. Though I am unsure if people would pay money to become a part of someone else's story ( though they may pay to recruit people to their own story) it sounds like its worth a shot. Could be fun!

I too, prefer active field/questing rp over just sitting in a tavern and trying to shout over all the other rpers to be heard ._.

I think I am one of those people Kylin was talking about with high expectations; I could never understand why people would rp in such tight, little groups, when to me the whole purpose of rp is to interact with your environment and this brave new world chock full of many interesting and diverse people. What really gets me is when people segragate so often in public spaces like taverns (as illustrated in Kari's example). I pretty much agree with everything Lanos has said; to the point I even considered making a guild in my old game called Open World, just so the point was clear. Too often non-rpers are misrepresented as 'uninterested' when in reality, they merely have not been introduced to rp, or are interested, but have no idea how to break in. Open world would go a long way to helping many of those find their rp voice, as well as help grow the rp community. Discouraged by the lack of open ended adventure rp, and intermingling between rp guilds, I am close at times to just giving up on rp altogether. As Kylin has said, my expectations are too high, and rp simply is what it is. But... other times I feel it could be so much more. And just because something is hard to pull off, does not mean it is not worth trying. I will gladly open world rp with you anytime Lanos, just as soon as I am able to get into the game

Thanks for the many replies all! I think I will most likely stick with replaying Dragon Age for now. So.... addicting...

Could someone please explain this time jump void thingy people so often discuss in these forums? I am assuming characters who start when the game goes live in August (like mine) will not have been a part of it, but should they be aware of it? And that some people out there were a part of it? Thanks

Wow, this is just.... amazing. Everyone's Bios should be told this way, so much easier to catch up on ppl's backstories that way

This... gives me hope. I'm a Tera transplant, see. I left because I kept scratching my head, saying; is this all that RP is and can be? I thought it could be so much more, but it seemed to be little more than show and tell;'look how messed up and jaded my character is! They are the most tragic, downtrodden character EVERRRR!!!' That, and it was a complete hookup culture. If you are saying RP can be more, than... that gives me hope.

Yay! Someone else who doesn't believe in all-powerful healers!

Alright, another moogle!

Anyone know of other games out there with strong RP communities? I'm looking for a game to tide me over till ARR's release. A friend suggested Rift, but it doesn't seem to have much of an RP focus. Neverwinter was also recommended to me, but the graphics seem a little bland...

Hey all I am not in game yet, and am therefore characterless (though I am working on fleshing out a few ideas) but would like to get my RP hopes and dreams out there in the hopes of finding a few like-minded individuals to hit the ground running with, once I do get in game. So I will be skipping part I (character info) and launch right into it: RP Style: Amount of RP: Very much heavy! I enjoy being IC as much as possible, though I certainly do enjoy goofing off OOCly in the proper channels. However, I also like working with those new to RP, to help them find their voice, and to learn more about this glorious style of play that is RP. Views on Combat & Injuries: I believe in combat realism; if you are going to fight with someone it should come at a cost; both physical and emotional. Light skirmishes are just that; dust-ups with a few minor scrapes and bruises. Heavy combat on the other hand, can and sometimes will lead to permanent, injury, even death. Neither can happen without the FULL agreement of all involved parties. Superpowers should be kept to a minimum, and should pertain to the character's story if he/she does possess extraordinary powers, and not be arbitrary. I dislike Dragonball Z combat. I also believe the idea of insta-heals is flawed; first off, a healer should have to WANT to heal the injured person. The act of healing should require some sort of exertion on the healers part, with a chance of failure. To think you can engage in any sort of dangerous activity without fear of any consequence because ' hey, I'll just get healed' is godmoding imo. Emotional consequence: If two friends get into a knockdown, drag out fight, the likelihood is that the friendship will become frayed or broken. Though some people are easy to forgive and forget, a lot of people are not. Friendships can be ruined, and constant friction can occur if the two combatants are, say, in the same guild. With that said, I am more than happy to work at meeting people halfway so long as the rules are agreed to beforehand. My ultimate goal is to just RP as much as possible, and I recognize in order to do so requires a degree of flexibility on my part. I have a preferred method, but can adjust and adapt. Views on IC Romance: IC romance is great, and a normal part of char's lives. I have two caveats; I roleplay both male and female characters (I'm a guy) based on whoever pops into my head and seems to have the most to say at the time. I ask people to remember that they are romancing the character who has nothing to do with the OOC person. I dislike being labelled as a 'trap', dishonest, etc. Your dealings are with my char., not me ( and vice versa) My second caveat is that my characters have a life outside of romance; they thirst for action and adventure. They like to meet new people. While they are certainly happy to have romance be a part of that, they have other hopes and dreams on their bucket list too, that they wish to explore. ERP - I am fine with ERP. Nothing too freaky. Similar to combat; the rules should be agreed upon beforehand. Views on non-romantic RP: Sure. *shrugs* I typically npc my family relations, but am not against teaming together with a friend to come up with some fun family-oriented rp. Views on Lore: Lore is great. A framework upon which to hang your character's pretty picture. Lore breaking makes for weaker characters who simply do not fit the environment they are inhabiting. Lore bending is okay, given the OOC person did the requisite work to make it believable. A simple rule in writing is to know the rule you are bending, and why you are bending it. Oftentimes if you ask yourself ' Why am I bending this?' You will realize you really do not need to to still have an interesting, enjoyable character. However, some people honestly don't know when they are breaking lore. (Guilty!) A simple friendly tell gives them the power to choose; to either adapt so that they are in line with the efforts of the rp community, or for them to say 'screw lore, I'm immortal!' (Not advised, imo) Views on chat functions: I try to stay IC as much as possible on the proper channels, while thoroughly enjoying OOC silliness on the proper channels. Other Info Country: USA, EST Login Times: Off and on b/t 7pm - midnight, throughout the day on weekends. Contact Info: (for now) Message me on this site! I am very friendly and laid back OOC, despite my definitive IC preferences.

Especially in an RP context 'human' races I think tend to be seen as boring. Or, perhaps more challenging; human races are often described as having a lack of cultural traits from whence the rper can draw from - they are very much the everyman (or woman), and require a lot more work on the players part to figure out what makes them interesting, whereas other races have interesting traits that are inherent. Or maybe that's just why I avoid humans . At any rate, I think I will roll a Hyur this time, because the general lack of human interest makes them more... interesting.

I certainly do agree with what you all have said! Typically, I do like to be the 'outsider' of a race, one who has quite different personality from the racial norms. However... far too often I revert to 'the super-nice character who tries to get along with everyone'. It will be a nice challenge for me to actually try to stay a little closer to the societal norm, and to try and tackle someone who is prideful, maybe a little arrogant, prone to fits of anger when provoked; a personality flaw that needs to be worked on as my character progresses. ...of course, at some point I will probably make a white magic focused char (still getting used to the idea of this Armoury system I'm reading about) who is super nice and tries to get along with everyone >_> Thanks for the helpful input all

How does one become a legacy member? $2 a month is a strangely miniscule amount for 7 extra chars per server And... I think I have actually settled on a Wildwood Elezen. Originally, I was turned off by them being described as arrogant, but I've always been about archers and woodsy types, so I guess I can do arrogant Now... time to immerse myself into the lore...

This is... wow. Just wow. Words alone will not suffice to show my appreciation at your taking the time to assemble such a valuable resource. So, allow me to present to you a line of cabaret cactii; :cactuar::cactuar::cactuar::cactuar::cactuar::cactuar::cactuar::cactuar::tonberry::cactuar::cactuar::cactuar::cactuar::cactuar::cactuar::cactuar::cactuar::cactuar: damn Tonberry.... always sneaking into my cabaret lines.... one day I will get yo- Don't get too close! Stay awa- *splat*

Thanks for the links Eva, and the helpful comments all! How many character slots are there? I'm thinking now it might be fun to roll a Hyur brother and sister, but probably won't if there are only two slots available.

In the past I have used wordpress for journal entries. Its pretty easy to use, free, and has a lot of layout styles to choose from. I am curious; how do people who have not played the game know so much about their characters already? I read Abodo's profile and I was really impressed. But me personally, I feel I need to see the character move, breathe, and act a little bit (not to mention see how they look) before I can decide on their personality and story. I also need to get a feel for the world they inhabit, so that I do not unintentionally lorebreak. Anyway, I really enjoyed your profile and I vote yea on the journals Hope to read them soon!

Kupo! Welcome fellow Tera transplant. I too started RPing recently, and quickly got hooked. Best of luck to you

In trying to decide a first race to roll, I have narrowed it down to Elezen Duskwight, and Miqo'te Seeker or Keeper ( I tend to like nature loving races) Can anyone give me tips, or point me to lore links to help with my decision? Thanks **Derp, I just noticed I put this in the rp dixcussion, and not the FfXIV discussion. Sorry bout that**

Hello and welcome! I too am new to this happy little community Rp is addicting, more addicting than sugarfrosted things, beware!

Yay free hugs It is more than likely you are the one that convinced me to come here Your name was Kemadu or something right? @ all: I am sincerely appreciative, and a little bit blown away at how helpful and respectful everyone seems. I shall certainly in turn try to respect people's different rp approaches. I look forward to rping with some of you in the future In the meantime... seems like I have a lot of reading to catch up on! One other question: Open World RP - pipe dream or achievable?

Asili, I think we are going to be good friends Too many characters require that you have extensive knowledge of their backgrounds to even interact with them. I find that by living in the moment (the present), my characters are accessible to rp with just about anyone at any time. Yet if you drone on and on to them about things that are not relevant to them in any way, they will get confused, or walk away. I am starting to get excited to try something new! I really, really, really did not mean my post to sound like a rant. I am well aware that I probably failed. The truth is, I RP with just about anyone of all experience levels, and usually have an okay to good time. I even help run some RP improv classes/sessions in my current game to try and spread rp interest, and to try and learn together how to create more dynamic scenes. But the 'really good' stuff is few and far between. And the really good stuff is what keeps me motivated
