That's only for Keepers. Kerr's a Seeker according to his wiki. Seekers seem to often use h's in their names and have odd spellings, so what about something like 'Khrr'? Tag it in front with any clan you want, since they tend to drop the clan letters colloquially.

They've mentioned it before, and they know people want it, but there's nothing official yet. It really wouldn't be too out of place to RP your character as somewhat of a Red Mage. As stated above, in-game mechanics don't necessarily mirror role play. If your character knows how to use swords and magic, that's pretty much it. You could be a Gladiator and set Cure and Protect as cross-class skills if you're doing action RP of some sort. Personally I'm also hoping for Red Mage sometime in the future. But for me, instead of RPing him as one now, I'm setting him up so that he could potentially take it up if it gets introduced. For now he studies the current magics we have, and possesses some sword skill as well, that way if they add Red Mage (and Blue Mage), I can RP him as learning to use both together and becoming a Red Mage. I like the idea of progressing into it.

Your opinions on a lack of cross-class abilities
Caysen replied to sugarfrosted's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I think you may have read my post to be a bit more extreme then I intended it to be. The example I was using is kind of an severe one. I like FFXIV's system as it is now. I think it's great that some skills are cross-class, like Cure, but with a penalty. The tank should be able to heal themselves some, to take some pressure off the healer (Paladin's could heal in XI), but they should never have the same healing capability of a White Mage with Cure IIIs. And Mages should be able to protect themselves some just in case (we're squishy), but should not have so much defensive capability that they have no need for a good tank at all. Limited cross-class skills is good. None is bad. Too many is also bad. My extreme reference was what happens when every job can do everything just as well as every other job. My heavily armored melee character in that game could heal herself better than any mage could, and many mage characters could survive ridiculously longer than they should have. This resulted in zergs, not parties. -
Your opinions on a lack of cross-class abilities
Caysen replied to sugarfrosted's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I personally like that there's a limited availability of cross-class skills. I like having specific job roles. A certain other MMO on the market right now did away with party roles almost entirely, instead giving every class the ability to do everything to some degree. All classes had offensive, defensive, healing and support abilities. Originally it was a selling point, you weren't completely boned if you couldn't find a healer or a tank. You could still manage. But (in my opinion at least), they ended up creating a game in which anyone of any class could solo their way through the whole thing. The only time you needed a party was for dungeons, and even then configuration didn't matter, you just took anyone regardless of class, zerged the whole thing and only paid attention to healing yourself. After playing that for 6 months I found that I really missed defined job roles and the typical 'holy trinity'. I missed the strategy of forming a balanced party and having a plan, rather than just zerging as hard as possible. I missed the camaraderie of relying on others and being relied upon. It feels great to be moving back to the balanced party dynamic. -
A Geomancer job with terrain-based abilities would be a very cool offensive alternative for Conjurers. The official description of Conjurer says they use the aether of their surroundings, so Geomancer could easily fit right in. You also have to take into account that the team has spent the past long while working just to make the game playable again for v2.0, which would understandably leave little time for working on future jobs. Once the game is finished and relaunched they'll have plenty of time to dream up new jobs for us, and the jobs they know to be fan favorites are probably at the top of the list.

Marauder I could see possibly going Beastmaster? Kind of a stretch, but it could work. Warrior seems fairly similar to what Beserker would be, and Beastmaster could be more of a support-ish role for Marauder. Blue Mage with a lance is an interesting idea. I like it. Adds a little more uniqueness to the job, and there's a lack of lance using jobs in FF. I'm hoping for a BLU addition somewhere down the road as I was a BLU in XI.

I play guitar a little, mostly acoustic. I've always liked music and I wish I was good enough to play professionally, but I'm really not, so it's just a hobby. Instead I went off and became an A/V tech and a DJ.

It's been mentioned many times, but they have not announced anything officially. They said they want to add in great swords later, and might add a new class/job to use them. They also said that a Dark Knight job would most likely come from Gladiator, and you would likely have to have Paladin unlocked first.

Some DoM abilities can be used cross class too. Thaumaturge's Surecast and Swiftcast abilities can be used by any class. I haven't had a chance to play with Conjurer much but I'm sure they have some too.

Hey anybody know if Thief will ever return
Caysen replied to Gideon Aryeh's topic in FFXIV Discussion
They once said something about Thief possibly coming from Archer, but that was a long long long time ago, before the scout type class rumors started, so who knows. I'm probably in the minority here, but I'm hoping they throw another little curveball like Bard and make Musketeer go to Red Mage. Red Mage with a musket would be pretty cool. I doubt it though. -
This is amazing! Thanks! The whole series is great. I really enjoy your style.

So there doesn't seem to be a way to take screenshots on PS3, so instead I got some shots off my TV with an iPhone camera... :frustrated: Here's Caysen the way I intend to make him at launch: For now though I'm messing around with a Miqo'te male just because it's beta and I can. He looks like this: I'm still most likely using Hyur at launch, but I'm having fun with the Miqo for now. My friend says I should keep him like that, but there's so many characters that look so similar to him and it bugs me greatly.

Scholar. SCH was one of my main jobs in FFXI, and the one I had the most fun playing. Having Scholar in FFXIV at launch makes me very happy. I was not expecting that at all. Also, character customization options. I look forward to seeing everyone's unique characters. Company housing. The designs they've shown us look great, and they mentioned we'll be able to get hunting trophies like Ifirt's head to hang on the walls. Can't wait to see that.

Great! We can bounce back and forth some ideas and we'll see if any of them stick Sounds good. Got any story ideas yet?

I've had trouble with that kind of indecisiveness before, but I found a solution that has worked for me. Stop completely, and put the entire thing aside for a while. Don't work on it, don't even think about it. When you spend a great deal of time obsessing over working on something, you tend to start overthinking it, getting stressed out and going crazy. Do something else you enjoy, and come back once you've had time to calm down and clear your head. However long that takes. Hours, days, even a week or two, whatever. Come back to it then with a clear head and fresh eyes, and see what you think. You may find you have a completely different attitude towards one or another. A fresh perspective can do wonders. If this is part of your trouble, I'd suggest not making a decision until you get a chance to try everything out. When you're able to access the game, play with the character creator for every race you have an interest in and see if anything clicks. Play each class a little and see what you like. I also agree with the others that you find out which you have the most fun RPing with as well. Then make a choice from there. You wouldn't pick a favorite food without ever tasting it first, would you?

Test your potentional ping to the ARR servers (Na)
Caysen replied to Kari Illderthane's topic in FFXIV News
I'm getting around 75 from the gulf coast. Still pretty good. -
I've always liked these kinds of guilds. I've been in several, and lead a few. Never with an RP component though. As a new player, and someone who likes helping new players once I'm experienced and able, I'd be interested in getting in on this. I would very much suggest making this a linkshell, not a free company. It's been said that to join a free company, you have to be a member of a grand company first. (source) If it does end up working that way, that would prevent new players from joining which pretty much defeats the purpose.

RP Servers: A Discussion (mods please read before locking..)
Caysen replied to Mtoto Wamoto's topic in RP Discussion
They're trying to address your concerns. What is it you want them to do? There's only so much they can do, seeing as it's a game and they're just players. No one can change Squenix's decisions, we can only do our best to work with them. What are you expecting, for all of them to simply abandon everything they've done and created up until now and move to a new server just so that you aren't uncomfortable with them having that history? No one's stopping you from not joining Balmung if you wish to start on a new server without all that. It's completely your decision. All anyone's trying to do is let you know that joining them on Balmung won't be the worst thing ever. Sorry for being blunt, but I felt like I needed to say something. -
RP Servers: A Discussion (mods please read before locking..)
Caysen replied to Mtoto Wamoto's topic in RP Discussion
I'm sure there are many of us here, myself included, who will be starting fresh and making brand new characters on Balmung. While I understand the fears people have about joining an already established server, I honestly don't think it will be as big of an issue as people expect it to be. People have been joining MMOs a while after launch ever since the beginning of MMOs, I've been one of those many many times. Even when I joined FFXI nearly 10 years after launch, I never had a problem finding other newer players. There's more of us than you think! And most game veterans are very friendly towards new players. Yes, there are always some elitists and jerks, but those are a small part of the community and can just be avoided. Plus I'm very certain that the people here at RPC are NOT such people. The legacy members here at RPC have been nothing but friendly towards all of us new players who have no 1.0 experience but are eager to get into ARR. Personally, to me it's more about people than game mechanics. Yes, I'll have a disadvantage because I don't have a 50 job, or tons of gil, but that doesn't concern me at all. It will all come in time. I have never thought for a second that I would be ousted because of that. There are so many interesting characters and stories on Balmung that I want to be part of. And as I read posts here, I'm constantly reassured that there are no closed off RP cliques who want nothing to do with me or my character because I'm new. I only see friendly veterans eager to meet all of us newcomers. And I see many new RPers here anxious to do the same on Balmung, so I know I will not be alone. I'll be joining Balmung. -

This is from an interview on ZAM from back in 2011. Basically says there will be group content for Free Companies that relates to the Grand Companies, but with different storylines than the solo GC content. Here's the stuff from the earlier live letter. You unlock more features for your FC as you complete more quests and events. I read somewhere that we'll be able to put the FC emblem on armor, but I don't have a source on that.

Perfect, thanks! I was looking at the wiki page here at RPC, which is appears to be wrong. Looking at the official one a lot of these are incorrect. I'll copy the official one into the wiki.

I've been reading through the Roegadyn language info on the wiki page working on a name for a Roegadyn alt, and I found a discrepancy. In the pronunciation guide it says: But in the dictionary, 'wolf' is listed as 'uwil' and 'wilf is 'white', while 'wyzn' doesn't have a translation listed at all. Anyone know which is correct?

I really like the character idea. I've always been a fan of the Robin Hood archetype. I also enjoyed the mannerisms you've given him: his tendency to trail off on some tangent and the snarky comments. It's interesting how you've created your own character's opposite and rival. If you were to play both of them in-game, it could lead to some very unique situations. They would end up knowing a lot of the same people (us other RPer's characters), but since you play both of them they'd never really be in the same place at the same time, so you've got an endless chase thing going on. I'd also be interesting to see who other characters side with, whether they tip Uther off to Wilfred's whereabouts or help to hide him. Also, the name Scarlet Hood reminds me of this:
