That does seem like a logical progression. As much as I'd like there to be a whole different class for the guns thing. I wouldn't be surprised to see like... Musketeer will definitely be a class, not a job. There was a Musketeer's guild in v1.0 and it's in ARR too, it shares the Coral Tower with the Marauder's guild. You can even see characters practicing with guns in the training room.

You can target any party member straight from the party member list on screen. No need to see the tank at all.

I'm in. Once there's an official name, I can help with the graphics.

linkshell interest guage - repeatable content as IC canon...
Caysen replied to Imsey's topic in RP Discussion
I think it would have to be treated lighter than that. You really can't go around IC claiming to be the one person/group to have perma-killed a certain boss, but you can vaguely allude to having had to "deal with those damn pirates causing trouble in Sastasha again." Interested in seeing what Imsey says though, since this was their idea in the first place. I kind of got the vibe from the OP that the dungeons would be repeated IC, meaning that the characters have been there before IC and are having to go back IC to deal with them again, loosely ignoring the fact that game mechanics make the dungeon exactly the same each time. -
I'm currently playing beta on PS3. For now, I don't have a PC that can run the game, but when I do I'll be playing on both PC and PS3. It runs very well on the PS3. It's not quite as good as a very good PC, but it's very manageable with only a few minor drawbacks. First, it doesn't look as pretty, but that's to be expected from a console that's nearly 7 years old. Second, load times when zoning or loading players/NPCs when you get near them is noticeably slower, but not horrible. Characters will usually load after a few seconds. Third is the draw distance. Normally it's not an issue, you can see monsters and your party members just fine, but if you're in a group of 50 people crammed together it can't display them all. There's also occasionally some skill visual animation lag, but the effect of the skills doesn't lag. For example, when using a weapon skill on my archer, my character would stand there, the monster would take damage just as it should in the right amount of time, then my character would fire the shot visually. It really had no effect on my gameplay but it looks funny. Also, PS3 cannot currently take screenshots, but they will be adding that in in the future. Personally I think the control scheme works very well, once you get used to it. It's unlike anything else I've used, so it definitely has a bit of a learning curve. You can't have as many skills on screen at once as you can on PC, but you can quickly swap between multiple bars, so it takes a little practice to get used to it. Once you're used to it, it works very well.

I think you have to find a good middle ground when it comes to multi-classing. There at lots of classes that are very different but could easily work together if you put some effort into why the character knows the different skills. Melee type characters could easily be skilled in several weapons, and mage types often study more than one school of magic. A Paladin type character could take up White Mage out of their desire to protect people in any way they can, because at their core both jobs are about keeping other people safe. A character could also be both a Monk and a Black Mage, both jobs are centered around the ability to control the aether within one's body. They could reasonably be skilled at different ways of doing it. You could come up with many more reasons than those. Maybe a character learns something out of necessity, or maybe they have some huge life event and decide to change their ways completely and leave behind their warrior ways to become a healer. There's always a line though, and it's really easy to take it too far. If someone is the kind of player that levels everything to 50 just because they can, RPing that they're amazingly skilled at absolutely everything IC is rather godmody. For my character Caysen, I'll be RPing him as skilled to some varying degree in all the classes I play on him. This will include all magic classes and ranged classes. I have IC reasons for him to know all that he does, and different levels of skill IC even though OOC the jobs will probably all be capped eventually. For example, he's a mage type first and foremost, so he studies all schools of magic and those jobs are the ones he's most skilled at. Being a Miqo'te he's got some skill in archery as well, specifically leading to Bard where he'll mix it with magic. If we get a gun/Musketeer class in the future he'll have some skill in that too, first because guns are somewhat similar to archery, and second because he's from Limsa and would have grown up around it, so it's reasonable that he would have a least learned to use one some. But he would by no means be as skilled with a bow or gun as he is in magic. If they add a sword using magic class like Red Mage, he'll take that up IC after learning some rudimentary sword techniques from his Paladin friend Ryuki. Other classes, melee classes and such, I'll be playing on an alt. I'm interested in playing Monk, but it doesn't fit Caysen at all.

Character appearance change is planned for beta phase 4. Source, but I'm not sure if you can see it if you aren't in the beta.

linkshell interest guage - repeatable content as IC canon...

Sounds like a cool idea! I'd be interested in joining something like this. -
1) You can be in up to 8 linkshells at the same time. They will all show up in your chat log with the number next to them. You can also change the color of the text of each individually to further tell them apart. Other players cannot see what other linkshells you're in. 2) Grand Companies are more similar to factions in other MMOs. They're part of the storyline. What you're looking for are the Free Companies, which brings me to (3). 3) A Free Company is the more traditional guild system. You can only join one, and Free Companies will get different perks like FC only missions, crests, and a guild hall. We don't really know a whole lot about them yet, they're new for ARR and aren't fully implemented yet.

Blue Skies Event: Horizon Crossing (temp Gilgamesh, perma Balmung)

I'll be there! Non-canon for me. I'm still working on my character so I'm not going canon quite yet. -
There's 2 good database sites for FFXIV out there. MoogleBox (http://mooglebox.com/) has some good sized images of equipment, but it's not updated for ARR. XIVDB (http://xivdb.com/) is fully updated for ARR, but it's very new and they're still building it. It's so new they don't have any screenshots of gear yet, but there's a place for them in the entry pages so I'm sure they will eventually. Those are both database sites though, not armor galleries. A site like the one you posted or this one I used for GW2 I think would be a great addition to the community. I'm sure many players would use it. I'm up to helping put one together. Seems like a fun project. I have some experience in building websites too.

There currently not a way to take screenshots on PS3 (PS + START doesn't work), but the Community Reps on the Beta forums have stated that they are planning on giving PS3 the ability to take screenshots but it's just not implemented yet.

There is an in-game keyboard on PS3. Use the SELECT button to put the cursor on the chat window, move it to the input box, and some options will show up underneath telling you how to bring up the keyboard. I think it's the SQUARE button, but I can't check because the beta is down right now. It'll say though. Personally I use a keyboard, it's much easier. I've got a cheapo keyboard from Walmart I'm using.

AF stands for Artifact. Artifact gear is the iconic job-specific gear that each job gets.

They actually have done just that. Playing combat jobs in v1 and other games has been fairly profitable, because you can farm drops and sell them. Even trash drops would add up. Games have had many problems with RMT bots farming mobs and selling drops. But in v2, monster drops sell for 1-2 gil. To make gil as a combat class you actually have to play the game, do leves and quests, etc. Same thing with Fisher and other crafting/gathering classes now. You can't just farm a bunch of fish or ore and sell them for profit. You have to actually do leves or make things with the fish, cook things and sell those. Craft armor and sell that, etc. Both ways make it much harder for botters to farm up gil.

Got some good screenshots thanks to Ryuki. Caysen, βversion: Launch version won't have the face tattoos.

Here's Dixie. She's a Blue Heeler, somewhere around 3 years old. Not too fond of having her picture taken.

New dev blog today with some really nice concept art. This game has such great gear designs.

Aesthetics and cultural backgrounds are big factors for me. There are races I won't choose for my main just because they don't fit the way I see the character. I carry the same basic character skeleton over through every game, so I find something that fits him. Also, the clans differ in stats from the other. It differs for each race, but some clans have higher melee stats and the other higher magical stats, etc.
-
It's also worth mentioning that it's perfectly within the lore for people from the races with more unusual naming conventions to change their names to something more general sounding, so that the other races can pronounce them easier. Similar to how people coming to America from Asian countries will often take a romanized name.

I've also seen references to the "seven hells". Sometimes specifically the "seventh hell" which, in the lore, is where the lord of the underworld lives and represents oblivion. (source)

Such musical diversity here! It's great. Caysen doesn't really have a specific theme, just a bunch of stuff. Stuff that isn't even on YouTube... so here's a few Spotify links. The Wandering Tree - "Sea To Sea" The Canvas Waiting - "Chasing Color" Pioneer - "Long Way Home" Future Of Forestry - "Traveler's Song"
