Though not really answering the question at hand, my main Parker Connor (female highlander), is roleplayed as a 'worshiper' of Althyk. As most highlanders are wont to adhere to Rhalgr - as can be seen by practically every npc highlander, especially those in the Little Ala Mhigo/Stormblood storylines, Parker was taught to give precedence to Althyk by her father Wulver (who will be brought into her story more as SB continues). Originally creating these characters way back in 2.0 launch, and being quite interested in Classical Mythology - namely of the Greek and Roman variety, I likened the Twelve to the most powerful gods of those beliefs. Even though Ares was the god of war, he still obeyed his father/king Zeus. So, when I created Parker I figured that as Althyk was the king/leader of the Twelve, no matter how powerful the other 11 were, they would always obey him. I created the explanation for this credence given from father to daughter as: "Destruction comes to all, pup, but only when Time wills it." Thought it was an interesting tangent for a highlander, to make her a bit more unique.

I'd prefer wolf people over viera. Pls SE. By the Twelve no, I would muuuuch prefer Viera over these guys as a playable race. Sure they'd just be another 'cutesy' race, but it would be interesting to see how they work in male Hydaelan Viera as opposed to the FFXII Ivalicean Viera (who will hopefully be seen in the 24-man). However, I'd really like a more 'bestial' playable race in the form of the Bangaa from far deep south in the Sagolii or another desert/mountainous region. Would be quite interesting to see an Au Ra's reaction to seeing a Bangaa - or a Bangaa's reaction to the Amalj'aa - in a RP setting of course. In regards to the wolfmen, I'm all for them being a beast tribe, as it is more likely judging by their identical faces/heights/body models; probably coming from the Doman steppes along with the Xaela tribes. Also - Kage, love that you have the Thaumaturge Bros. clip, was quite happily surprised to see them in the trailer.

Lorelei Molyneux, the second daughter of a lesser branch of House Dzemael, has had hundreds of hours of free time in her 19 years. In this time she has found interest in several forms of magic, from conjuring to thaumaturgy, and more recently the Ishgardian use of astrology. However, unlike her older sister, Lorelei has a penchant for wandering - which she does frequently (much to her retainer Albertine's friendly fussing), as such her study of astrology, combined with ideas from her other arcane understandings, has slowly turned away from the regular teachings of Ishgard. Perhaps not one for joining any specific organization, Lorelei would be appreciative to a friendly rival and accomplice of sorts. OOC: Both characters have a noble background coming from Ishgard and are interested in the arcane. Maybe not an assistant, but someone on the healing aspect to counter and balance someone using darker magics? Quick addendum - I realize my info to the left says 'Gilgamesh' but I do have several characters on Balmung, Lorelei included.

As a Canadian, I can't really tell British Isles accents apart from each too easily, unless it's a ridiculous difference; as such, I still prefer Raubahn's new VA over 2.0. Think I'll do what Sounsyy mentioned and make my character's father from Sharlayan, would be a minor detail, but an interesting one. (As he fought in the Battle of Carteneau and has been presumed dead since - and I have a plan to bring him back in 4.0).
-
It's still better than the VA in 2.0 though. . .

Wow, thanks for the all the information folks, especially you Sounsyy. I'll check out those links when I have a bit more time. I didn't want to really retcon things, and with all this it looks like I may have to simply 'pick an area' rather than change anything. *The info on the midlanders from Othard is also nice to see - good reminder that the Doman refugees were nearly all midlanders. Thanks again, much appreciated!

Okay, so predominately from Gyr Abania, centered around Ala Mhigo. I guess I'm asking as before 3.0, the most defined highlander is Raubahn, a dark-skinned man with an accent I can't place. I used the 'classical' idea of highlanders to create my character, pale, freckled, with red hair and gave her a Scottish accent (at least tried via typing haha). This was quite different to a vast majority of highlander npcs ingame, as well as Raubahn, so I figured there could be other locations that highlanders could come from. With the launch of 3.0, Raubahn has a new VA and actually sounds Scottish which was a big plus for my character, but I'm still wary of the skin tone I've chosen. I'm going to assume, highlanders, like any other race or clan, would have differing skin tones throughout their makeshift homeland of Gyr Abania, and that my character's family could have simply come from another location in that area, am I correct in that assumption?

Hey all, I'm from Gilgamesh, but was hoping for a little input on a bit of lore. I understand highlanders - especially a good deal of those found around Ul'dah and predominately in Little Ala Mhigo are from Ala Mhigo; but, I would assume not all highlanders come from there as there are elezen who do not originate in Ishgard. To this end, and the fact that they are called 'highlanders', where else would they hail from? I main a highlander, Parker Connor (under construction, obviously), and am trying to flesh out her backstory - which means fleshing out her parents more or less. Any information would be much appreciated, especially if it's from one of the lore books. Thank you!

Glad this topic has been brought up as it's actually a good point for most people's characters - though those who may not be the 'Warrior of Light' but do take into their characters some references from the game's storyline. When you create a character (at least when you're not a legacy player) it is implied that as an adventurer you come from somewhere outside of Eorzea. So, basically, the player characters are not Eorzeans per say, but travelers from any land outside of the where the main game takes place. As hyurs with a third eye are the main denizens of Garlemald, and no player character has one of these 'eyes', it can be assumed that they are not of Garlean stock. This lends itself to allowing us to be from the newly mentioned Doma (as one of my characters is - who I created for the ninja job before it was released and oddly enough looks more Asian than the Doman npcs do), or any other nation brought up be previous posters on this thread. My main character I play ICly was born in Gridania, but has her father coming the 'mountains and hills bordering Eorzea' (and she and her father are highlanders - haha;))

Suppose as the originator of this thread I should say something as well. Firstly, thanks to all those who spoke up about the differences between Balmung and Gilgamesh, this thread got a lot more attention than I figured it would. Second, in no way was I bemoaning Balmung or Gilgamesh (though my choice of words concerning some of the FCs on Gilgamesh may have come off as harsher than I had intended). I've lost a few friends to Balmung, but have met other people on Gilgamesh to pick up the loss. I started this thread to better understand and get caught up on the dynamics of the RP and general community on Gilgamesh after being unsubbed for 3 weeks to a month. If (and more likely when) I choose to resubscribe I will probably stay on Gilgamesh and lend a hand in trying to get the community back together - though it seems to be in greatly capable hands thanks to Lalah, Mikh and Zach (and everyone else), though I may end up creating a character on Balmung just to scout it out. I'm looking forward to 2.3 and 2.4 (THIEF (rogue >.>) and NINJA!!!!!!!! ) and getting back into the community again. Thanks again for the overview of the server fellow Gilgameshians!

Hey all, haven't been around too much since my sub ran out a few weeks ago (and I didn't resub as I was in a bit of a rut, and then got stuff going irl). Looking to come back for 2.3 in a couple week (if not sooner) and I've been talking to a couple of my old contacts - and the state of Gilgamesh is almost appalling. Driftwood Coast - THE big RP FC seems to be in dire straits with more and more people 'drifting' away, Wayward Star has literally 'jumped ship' to Balmung along with the Echo Knights and The Black Sails seems to have shipwrecked with the loss of many hands. As well, Gold and the Blue Moon Healing Centre have locked their doors to the public. Now, I'm not a huuuge RPer, but I did enjoy it from time to time and liked to poke my various character's heads in to see what was going on and try to make connections. Of course my main's place, Parker's Wulver's Den is still in existence (though rather empty with me not ingame for a bit), but I can't believe what I'm hearing about Gilgamesh! What's going on guys? If Gilgamesh is truly going up or down in flames, I would like to know (I have a number of characters and my FC there). Please let me know the circumstances and such below, I may have been away for a bit, but I don't want to come back to find few if any friends remaining...

Hello and welcome to Gilgamesh! (if that is indeed where you end up) There are a number of RP FCs and Linkshells. Since it's Friday evening, I'm sure you'll be able to scrounge up some RP quite easily. I'll be around most of the evening on my main (Parker Connor). Drop me a line either in /tell or ingame mail. Check out Ward 3 of the Goblet (lots of RP) or wander around in the major cities' taverns. Have fun!

Hello! Sorry no one's got back to - several of you - but Amaare Margolis (the leader and creator) of Limitless Sky has moved to Balmung. If you're still interested in joining this LS please send an ingame mail or /tell to Parker Connor (my character) and I'll add you!
