  1. It's a shame because there are some games that give you good 200-300 dpi screenshots when you are playing the game. (Not WoW, but like D3/SC2/Borderlands 2) But I am never satisfied with what I draw or take photos because I always want to improve myself to a point I go crazy and possibly cut my ear. (Vangogh joke). I probably installed SweetFX wrong then. Is there proper tutorial for this thing?
  2. If your character is in the middle of progression story and suddenly the other player decided to call quit in the middle progression, the part of that plot because dead as a doornail. It doesn't matter how friendly and how memorable the relations between two characters were. If the plot gets halt in the middle, you can't just leave it as open plot for the rest of that character's life. It's unfair and it's also probably not what you personally wanted from the start. Which is why retconning can be a very good essential thing to players to help them to alter the plans or alter story if they have to.
  3. No, you -don't- have to say that the opposite character "has not been here for a while" if you choose not to have the character in your plot due to a lot of problems. It doesn't have to keep any story going. It doesn't end other side of plots or affect it. A player and the character can be forgotten as if never happened. This is an open RPG game, and lot of things can happen to just start or end a story. I really think your opinions and my opinions in Retcon are completely different because I personally do not want to see it that way. If someone told me that they want to retcon something, I'll just respect their wishes and discuss of why that person want to do it. If you think that everyone else has to suffer, then you are probably thinking it wrong. Because the player's character does not have to have that much impact in your character's plot. You can adjust at anytime. You didn't copyright anything or made a print on anything to be 100% confirmed. It's rather stupid to say that the player's character's mistakes to be 100% blamed for player's actions. It CAN be retconned. Since when was there a rule about roleplayers changing whatever is given to them? If you really have a problem with someone retconning a story when it was established with you, then you can either cooperate or just sever ties with them because -you- don't like it.
  4. How are you changing the story shared with others when the following character is gone from the game due to "quitting" the game or story they were working on? It is not other players' business of what Player A and B does. If Player A had story focus with Player B for John and Jane, and then Player B and Jane goes completely missing, the other players shouldn't judge Player A for deciding to say Player B and Jane relationship has been severed and retconned. - It's unfair for Player A to unable to dismantle a story that's not going anywhere or has been half-assed written due to opposite player's actions. Also there are MANY times when a person will be really not happy with who they are roleplaying and has played the character up to lvl 50 on all classes. Are you literally going to make them forcefully Fantasia and change their name because there is a "Story" shared between them? NO. You literally can't. It's unfair for that player to REMAKE a character or start something anew. You know how obnoxious it is for anyone to remake a character to high level in order to dress them up and have some kind of story with other players? Retconning is AT LEAST better. If other players cannot respect the Player A's decision on retconning because Player A is not happy with their character story or what-so-ever, then Player A should stop being friends or Roleplay with those players who cannot encourage Player A's actions. It's like saying Player A should NOT change or retcon to give other player's benefit if you are to say the last statement to solely blame on Player A for being "selfish".
  5. I think I am probably the only one who seems to be bothered about how to get good screenshots. Aside from sweetfx not working properly, I have trouble adjusting the camera to move freely as I want for angled shots (I am a photographer so I am always bothered of how I want my shots and it's not coming as I wanted to) - I might need better tutorial how to install SweetFX into my FF14. Is there particular keys besides SCROLL Lock and PRINT Screen or even Mouse for any possible camera angle changes to this game? Free camera settings at least. I know WoW had it, but I just cant seem to zoom in further in, and it only limits my angle to certain point. also the resolution for these screenshots make me sad because it's below 300-400, which makes zooming into the pictures really choppy and too pixelated.
  6. I was just throwing there because there is always people that still brings it up like everyday (just like three days ago at Coerthas where people were arguing about it on shout chat regarding free Paladins and sworns) ...you know how I know they haven't started in Ul'dah or done the paladin quests either? :tonberry: I am pretty sure a lot of us know, but that still doesn't change that people still bring this up for discussions just like how people keep saying that -no one- is allowed to use white magics. When it is -possible- but you won't be welcomed in Shrouds or Gridania for breaking their rule. Many people will bring up unnecessary topics because they feel that it's something to point out to prevent players from make their backgrounds interesting, or something fitting into this game. Also this game's lore is still vague and it's still open to many players to do whatever they want because it's MMORPG. An open world and open plot opportunity for your character to freely what you choose to do. While Gaspard made some points, but I disagree regardless. People can make whatever they want and fix whichever they wish. If they want to recreate a character, then it's their choice too. I don't see a problem on someone early progressing the story and writing something then retconning it. There was no rule saying "You can't just simply retcon when you already wrote a story into it." - This applies to ANY retcon even if it's not violating to lores. It's like if your character is in a relationship with someone else and it got too complicated or the opposite player has been MIA for any reasons, you have to retcon it and let everyone else know and chances are that some people would just say "you can't just retcon the IC friendship/relationship because you want to" - but you want to retcon it. It is that person's choice if there is too much complication to it. Similar to retconning to be a villain and then say "Oh, I don't want to be a villain and start over my character" and yes, you can retcon if you wish. The issue for some people to look down on retcon on any circumstances is that they feel that "once you made it and once you've said something ICly, then you have to keep to it". Says who? The cool thing about MMORPG RP is that you can change it when you wish to, in order to make yourself satisfied. I've seen many RP elitists who look down on it, but they shouldn't. It's NOT their character, instead they should respect other player's wish for retconning.

  8. What's wrong with making a character? 2.4 is coming out and there will be plenty of explanations from the Ninja job class about far east culture. You are basically saying that this person cannot make a character early ahead to gather some basic information to start up their character when there are plenty of information that Doma exists and has some cultural events that happened in Eorzea. the character can basically say: "I cannot tell you because it is a secret to reveal my culture" because chances are that ninjas are not allowed to reveal secrets anyways. Are you going to be upset because of that? No. Because it literally IS a player's choice whether he/she wants to reveal their character background to others.
  9. Even though it already gives plenty of hint in future patch and events that far east exists? People experiment and work out their character everyday to make something new into the story. Snowflake or not, not everyone plays an empty character - especially when it's still vague enough for each race by their certain tribe and racial behaviors. So I mean, would you be this kind of person and challenge their character like this because it confines established lore? "Why are you a Sworn and in a duty when you are not next to Sultana protecting her? That's questioning the lore" Or even "How are you able to use muskets when the lore clearly closed the musketeer guild?" There are plenty of good writers and good RPers who always edit and work on their characters all the time. Good artists and good writers will -never- say their works are masterpiece and it is done. They adjust and work on it more or rebrush it to improve it. What you are saying is just completely difficult for anyone to do something new and challenge for once. We aren't all conformists. Some end up being a rebel or some end up being something different. It's human nature. In -lore- we may not be all same human/homo sapiens, but they surely behave and think the same like regular humans in the real world do. They just can't create cellphone yet. That's not gonna happen because some of us like something different from everyone else. And yet there are plenty of hints and plenty of cultural explanations of Doma/Far east from the NPCs. So who are you to say that it doesn't exist because lore didn't explain it 100%? There is less information about Ala Mhigans fully 100% and that applies to Duskwights or any type of races besides what is given to us. Not all Japanese-y names are from Doma and they RP with others. Are you going to criticize them for that too? EDIT: I'd like to add that FFXI had vague lore for samurais and ninjas because they are also from far east but the lores were sliced off and people RPed making their own plots back then. It still hasnt been explained fully. "Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn't really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That's because they were able to connect experiences they've had and synthesize new things." -Steve Jobs "Creativity involves breaking out of established patterns in order to look at things in a different way" - Edward de Bono
  10. Oh man. I remember when I used to RP in Ragnarok Online and that was my very first MMORPG that I ever got into too. Then WoW, then PSO/PSU then Tera etc. Welcome aboard! Feel free to message Mizuho Mitarashi or Anelia Sadowyn if you are interested in talking. Also maybe ICly can get some ideas too!
  11. Change of Updates: Eorzean Cup 2.x - A Version Reborn. 4v4 - to be OOC agreed term basis 1v1 fight until last-man standing in team match Grindstone style of a simplistic combat fight. Non-Movement or Counter-Attack or non-sense No-Healing/No-Complicated Technicality - applying to overly creative non-canon stuff Non-Magic Users. All physical attacks only (Archers allowed) Team Leaders roll the initiative Team Initiative all rolls first then the other entire team rolls defense vice versa. The following has been patched and been fixed as accordingly.
  12. Anelia looks at A'rytiss and helps him to stand up firmly by patting his back with a slight massage to his shoulders and to his back side of the neck. She understood about this young fellow's fears. The dark sensation was abnormal for any regular recruits to handle at any terms anyways. "Here. Keep your back firm and loosen up your muscle. It'll help you from being in fear." She started to massage his hands to keep the blood flowing from his chilled feelings from dark aura. She looked at him across and smiled lightly at him. "The more you sense fear, your legs won't be able to move to avoid any attacks. Keep yourself focused, and gain some courage. You can make it through this, and who knows? You'll see your friend chocobo again."
  13. Welcome back! You should contact Anelia Sadowyn or Mizuho Mitarashi if you are interested in hunting down some void creatures and any kind of unique story driven adventures. We have a free company that specializes in it.
  14. I still feel that the Disciple of War/Magic will be pretty useless later expansion of the game and they'll just put an end to it. I think someone also mentioned it before in other thread. Also, I hate Japan-America localizing merch agreements. They are tedious and majority dont get shipped over because Westerners are pretty strict on bringing cool stuff here. (but they are -okay- with sending out their products to easterners instead without having localization issues!)
  15. Gun Class (Musketeer) & Unnamed Gun Job. Gun Class/Job not what people are expecting. Producer Letter Live III depicts a dual-wielding gun class. Dual wielding guns. Information on job to be released at Fan Fest alongside expansion. (06/19/2014; Nova Crystallis <|FOUND IT|> Dual wielding? Really?
  16. My biggest issue about this expansion and ARR was that the Musketeers are left ignored and that Musketeer Guild is ever empty in Limsa Lominsa since 1.0. I am really wondering when Yoshi-P will ever think about bringing this class into it's play. I know people are hyped about Dark Knights and Samurais, but how did everyone just forget about this gunner class? I feel like I was the only one who really enjoyed Corsair for FFXI.
  17. Hey, that cure saved me from Twintania on Turn 5 with bonus 100 HP while I was 1% from downing it for some reason! But yes, we need more extension abilities for PLD Cross Class abilities. I swear, Stoneskin is the only useful cross class with CNJ aside from Raise but Raise is also non-combat only too.
  18. 4v4 - to be OOC agreed term basis 1v1 fight until last-man standing in team match Grindstone style of a simplistic combat fight. More to be updated soon, as everything has been suggested by the end of tonight.
  19. So I suppose we'll have to stick with Tekken Tag Tournament by going with 2vs2 or 3vs3? If people do prefer 2vs2 instead, please let me know.
  20. It seems like without asking too much question, everyone seems to agree on the part regarding the combat complication, theme complication and overly worked ideas. I'll see tonight of how much needs to be fixed. I'd appreciate Grindstone veterans to fill me in about this, but please if possible - organize the suggestions by listing them if possible. (On the other note, I did rush this to make this event push to November base only because I had serious IRL stuffs that I didn't really ask people what they want from the tournament and just worked on it to be pretty creative but I guess that was not what they wanted.) EDIT: From what Inessa is saying I guess it'll have to work with who will fight who through OOCly and agree to it until at the end, it'll be a gang beat down. So this is how I am getting from people's feedbacks. 4v4 - to be OOC agreed term basis 1v1 fight until last-man standing in team match Grindstone style of a simplistic combat fight. Non-Movement or Counter-Attack or non-sense No-Healing/No-Complicated Technicality - applying to overly creative non-canon stuff But I suppose everyone has 0 problems with the arena's layout settings, right? - I really do not want to do these tournaments at Central Thanalan right outside of Ul'dah. It made no sense to me when it is a big annual tournament and it does deserve better settings.
  21. Possibility that all Dark Knights are part of Dravanian lores. I am very curious about this. *imagines all Dravanians to be Castlevania vampire hunters*
  22. We are currently growing and have been looking for more members! Also hiring Domans for 2.4 regarding foreign language barrier between them and Eorzeans. We require translators.
  23. Some people end up playing like DnD and force themselves to recreate their character as if they fill out a new sheet to reroll their character because the character died in the game or campaign. I remember doing this for WoW private servers ( thank god I didn't pay for this) and regular WoW server. Luckily I refused to do it for FFXI and people were okay with it. Though I was considering to reroll anyways because there was someone in linkshell that was shame naming with racism OOCly and I didn't want to play as that character or be part of that linkshell in Sylph. But yeah , sometimes people end up rerolling if their character ends up getting really messy that you can't do anything to change it. It's like you filled up that paper all over the place in pen ink and it's hard to even use white out.
  24. Oh yeah, definitely. This was such an interesting play for many Garlean roleplayers but now it's been flushed down. But I think these people can use magiteks or gunblades to support their game I guess. I am also sure they did this on purpose to let players know that Garleans are unplayable races and will remain that way. (After all, they were originally antagonists from 1.0!) Even for those who wanted to be XYZ class or XYZ race had to be retconned because they don't really exist. Which is a shame.
  25. Probably not. According to Yoshida to his live letter from 2.1-2.2, he did mention that there are a lot of contents and needs to catch up from 1.0 lores and etc that they've missed due to fixing it into 2.0 ARR contents. So the new patches will keep happening until Yoshi-P retires or resigns with Square Enix. His contract for Final Fantasy XIV project has been going on for about two years since 2011-2012, and his decision to stay or leave will be by 2016. (That's when most developers/producers leave after 4 year agreement term) But also, FFXIV isn't throwing the entire content in one big patch like Tera/ArcheAge. There seems to be always newer part of story into the game. They probably estimated that regular casual players would beat the story mode within 2-3 months at least (By doing one or two quest per day at least along with some side quests and grinding. Casual players only play about one to three hours per day. - Heck not everyone plays during weekdays and play on weekends and yet they pay $12-15 per month because they enjoy it.). Which means that all of the story modes that we've had from 2.0-2.5 were actually just A Realm Reborn "expansion" itself with unique arc titles. I have a feeling that it'll slow down by 4.0-5.0 expansion but 3.0? I think Yoshida still has more stuff in his pockets to show every 3 months.
