Extra Life 2016! 25 hours of PAIN!
Aldotsk replied to Warren Castille's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
My friends and I always did fundraising for natural disaster relief program by playing retro games last year. We did Zelda 1 through Link to the Past, Sonic 1-3 / Adventures 1 and 2, and Secret of Mana. Wasn't a lot, but 1000 is enough to pass for small fund raising. I do encourage any kind of fund raising for video games when it comes down to retros. (don't worry. I won't ask you to play ET.) -
I'm sure you can see why such an original character bristles with people trying to tell stories within the lore, then. Making up classes and home towns and cultures doesn't break the lore, not exactly, but if I make a character dual-wielding machine guns who comes from Eagleland and handwave it away as "Oh, it's far, you've probably never heard of it" it's going to raise some eyebrows. Actually, it'll lead to people just ignoring me and refusing to RP. Considering that I honestly have not RPed with you or a lot of people that are really strict regarding what's only given in the game - I just try to limit myself to hang out with those who likes partial lore benders to encourage players who enjoy the game. But dual-wielding machine guns would be a bit too extent for me. The only thing I did was no more than just simple regular Edo-era style that is considered fully undeveloped/modernized like Garleans and Eorzeans do. I have no intention to make something crazy. But I do love Nobunaga's Ambition and Romance of Three Kingdoms to make the story interesting as that (Not Samurai Warriors/Dynasty Warriors style - the REAL one). Again, I don't disagree with you. Which is why sometimes original character in a pre-made content with given lore and rules have restrictions for players. And I dont mean it as it's a bad thing.

I'd totally marathon Megaman 1-10 and Megaman X1-6 for this kind of run. Best retro 2d platform games since childhood. Consider me funding few dollars for this. -
Since you've played FFXI, I'll have to let you know that Vanadiel lores and their far east lores were still extremely vague about the true aspects of Ninja and Samurai lores aside from the quests that they give you. Some of the regions were still hidden and unexplained. So this will also be another washed up part where we may not know until further expansions.

That's blind optimism and hopes, nothing more. Aside from a couple of vaguely-japanese-sounding-names there's not a single thing to dictate what Doma is going to be like. You DO realize it was conquered by Garlemald, right? You know what conquering civilizations tend to do to the old cultures, right? Debatable. Not -all- countries get developed right away after they were conquered. It takes lot of decades for old civilizations and cultures to slowly fade away. During Meiji to early 1900 period, it took China, Korea and Japan to slowly accept westerner cultures, and also it took a long time for China and Korea to have their cultures disappear. Took at least 20-40 years to accept modernization since they were conquered. Everything is just a prediction as Berrod says, and we don't know anything about it. As for my far east character, she's from an island away from Othard and Doma that is in a civil war within their own clans. So it's really a bit different from actual people who live in Doma to avoid any lore conflicts. It's just a hint that her clans do have ninjas and samurais (swordsman to current term). There is still yet to see if Ala Mhigo completely inherited technology of Garleans yet anyways. We'll have to see by Heavensward maybe if it gives us the opportunity to see further norther regions.
-
Watched that during Otakon, was rather funny and it still is
-
Well to be fair... There are still those who say they had been living in Ala Mhigo and moved over from there, and it's hard to describe what that place really looked like too. This applies to Garlemald too. So most of these hidden lands are yet to be unveiled and we are indeed ending up playing devil's advocate and just go along with it for now. Chances are that Doma is probably exactly what Japan's Edo era was (Oda reign). But that's just my grain of salt and I've decided to play with it.

Here is the link Ilwe! For Grindstone Thread @Hiro: I'll speak with you this Sunday evening! As for others who are signing up, please post here or PM me through this forum. I will not be online in-game for the next two days because I am going on a vacation. (No I am not going to London fan fest. I wish) I will check often and see if there are more people who are interested!

Unless, you know, you just consider that its a remote tavern location that rarely has anyone to be bothered by the fact that you're being publicly villainous. Nowhere has to be -perfect-, and I really don't care if some NPC Blades have their feelings hurt (considering that their hands are full with other work, anyway, it doesn't seem likely that they would be too concerned with Ul'dahn-based law enforcement, its like the Wild West out there). Either there or the Coffin and Coffer seem like they would be fine representative spots for more villainous characters to hang out. While I agree with you, but I think there are still plenty of good areas that people can hang out in for their villain round table. Like Silver Bazaar is definitely a good place. I remember back certain FC that was like evil cult groups had their meetings and hang outs there. But since there are plenty of FC houses that are related to villainy and regular hang outs like Kayah said, they can also hang out there where there are no Blades are roaming around the buildings.

Dark Knight, hinted. Samurai Folder found.

What would it be called before Samurai though? It's like really tough. Would it be blademaster in this case? Also we can always look at Final Fantasy XI and Tactics class systems should we be confused about what kind of classes would come out in FF14. ***I'd like to see Arithmetician show up in 14*** -
I honestly have to say that most villains always go into the path of "Team Rocket's Blasting off again!" or "I'll get you next time Gadget!" - but what the statement above pretty says everything about how one should play as villain.
-
Bluegartr said that there has been multiple hints that FFXIV devs and Yoshi-P were interested in bringing more cameo from pre-FF14 series to give references and extra items like Lightning Returns. But as of right now, I'd say that Hydaelyn's blessing would be more similar to Lifestream (Aerith's blessing/Great Gospel) and it can only be attained by Warrior of Lights. As for further details towards Lifestream and Mako Energy, there is none right now - but I am sure Cereleum is looked similar to Mako Energy. Garleans showed great interest in using cereleums and also they seem to use magiteks running with cereleum (I could be wrong but I am pretty sure airships are used by cereleum reactors)

That you were right. Scythe Dark Knights were better than Great Swords imo for FFXI. -
There has been two teams that have shown interest into the tournament. If possible, I'd like to see 6 more teams! If this is your first time, still join anyways - because if it works out or requires improvement, I can always add into newer side of rules in the future.

Yes you did. For jobs, you needed the correct weapon equipped and then equipped the soulstone. You had to have something equipped in your main hand at all times, and it dictated your class. I see. Well, I really hope they'll get deeper about the job system a bit more because to me it feels like DoW/DoM is going to be obsolete anytime soon since there will be more jobs than class and I think developers are trying to push to that anyways. After all FFXI all had jobs, not classes from the start. -
Debatable. I think there are guards at the Coffer and Coffin, but are they Blades? I thought they were just bar bouncers. I don't spend enough time there to be sure. I wish the game had more general watering holes. We could use some unaffiliated locales. Mor Dhona's nice, but it's so crowded with everyone else that you open up the odds of people trouncing on your roleplay because they're bored. They actually got benches outside of Revenant's Toll now, and it's 80% quiet. (right outside near Coerthas borders) Also they are Blades since they do wear helmets and uniforms of Brass Blade (all in C&C). But they were probably the most laziest Brass Blades ever. Too bad they are NPCs. We dont really have a lot of Brass Blades in game as characters to take care of villains. The others were just really unfortunate that they ran into ones.

Sometimes, expansions completely change gameplay styles for some MMORPGs or any type of online games. And possibility is that further expansions may make Disciple of War/Magic to completely disappear, and people can just choose their classes/jobs by switching their soul crystals. That's just my two cents, but I doubt it'll happen. I was technically the only one who was okay with FFXI job changing system I think. I forgot how 1.0 job switching worked, but I literally didn't have to rely on equipping weapon to change a class. -
Depending on what kind of villain one is, if the person is a villain of Ul'dah and did some kind of crimes for people to notice, Brass Blades will just send out the wanted posters all over Thanalan. Not just Ul'dah. So drinking at Drybones would definitely not make any sense since that place is overrun by Brass Blades and Immortal Flames because they have to deal with Amaljaa everytime from the south. With that said, that goes for Shrouds/La Noscea too. If you did something bad in any of the regions, your face will come up on those local walls and trees. But those kind of villains have to be either you murder someone or blow up Ul'dah for you to actually unable to go to any type of regions. Or shoot an officer, because that's one way for you to gain three stars and then four then five... then six.

I am sorry that I took it personally because I don't really like stereotyping things by people's cultures. Just because someone named their character Asian doesn't necessarily mean they are all bound to be one type of culture that everyone goes along with it. That was one thing that got me worked out more than anything else and this argument started since that with multiple quotes I made on few pages ago. *leaves the thread*

You should be using these events, good or bad, to shape your character. You can't just erase what you don't like. There are TIMES when a person needs to erase it when it's necessary. It's not your decision to say what they can do and what they cannot do. You aren't the developer of the game nor the game master of the game. You can freely ignore players or myself if -you- think your roleplaying style doesn't match with other players. What you are saying is "Oh you made a mistake and you are ruining your character and your player skills. What you've done is permanent. I will not consider you to fix anything because you already made a mistake in-character." What's the point of RPing if there's no continuity or consequences for your actions? What's the point of RPing with someone who will just troll and grief players because they make mistakes and take every words by hand by players small or big mistakes?
-
So you are just griefing other players to humor yourself to make the unable to roleplay at any possible potentials and make the look feel bad about themselves. Gotcha. *rolls eyes* And this is why I started with lancer since ninja lores and samurai lores are still vague. I am pretty sure Far East have archers and lancers anyways if it is assumed that every nations have archers and lancers anyways.

How is playing Japanese style of character "anime wannabe character"? You are just now stereotyping that all Asian type of characters are considered as anime wannabe characters. There are plenty of Eorzean characters that players make are like anime style, and they'd be considered anime-wannabe characters. You who has played Anime style video games should understand the concept that NOT all Asian oriented characters should be stereotyped to be anime characters. This game is Final -Fantasy- which means it's not 100% realistic. It's got fantasy fictional unnatural things that happen in this game, and it cannot be viewed as some Medieval content of view back in 1400-1500s since there were no such thing as Magitek vehicles or giant Bahamut blowing continents away. Also lacking in Actual RP skills? Who are you to judge that people have good RP skills or not? That's just elitism and narrow minded in your words. I would suggest you to recollect and be careful with what you say in words.

I just said, it is PLAYER's wish to whether they want to stick with it or change the plot completely if it discomforts them. Why bother pushing a player into keep or doing something that they are not okay with it? Just because -you- like it? What Warren said is agreeable that you -can- make a decision whether you want to keep that plot memory in your character's background or just completely erase it from the boards because you feel that it is not helping you to progress further part of the plot because you wanted something bigger for the future with that Player B. If someone stabbed my character by accident and he's in jail because of his mistake and then he PMs me that he wants to retcon because he made a mistake - I won't hold it against him and agree to cooperate. I retcon sometimes if I have to, and me retconning the whole Garlean story for my alt and etc has to be altered now since it is confirmed that Garleans who are pure blood have no abilities to use aether magic. Let the cards collapse and make it into a newer deck and reshape the cards into a house again. Never said the house of cards had to remain as it stands.
