1. But but but... why would anyone get mad about their fellow RPers getting a bump of any kind on top of the LS list? I think the "competition" mentality is the problem, if that's the case, rather than bumping. I've not seen any "bump" post, I have seen enthusiasm however. Can we as a community refrain from making that a bad thing? Maybe we can just feel happy for other Linkshells besides our own getting some exposure? Let's approach this with a sense of camaraderie for fellow RPers. We're all in the same boat, aren't we? Also where are the meeting notes posted? I'd love to have a look. Nevermind, found them. The concept of privacy in any form on a forum is tricky. In my past (non-RP) guild on GW2, a whole back and forth PMs were posted due to some much needed clarification. Then one party got really upset because they thought that it was against the rules to disclose PMs. I think a line needs to be drawn in any community, to either point out that PMs are in fact private messages that should not be allowed to be discussed in public (such as a guild leader meeting) or labeled as Player to Player messages that allow for direct communication, rather than privacy.
2. I am not sure if people have seen/posted this article, but here it is: http://ffxiv.zam.com/story.html?story=32577&storypage=1 Discuss (if you'd like)
3. Someone had a little too much caffeine? lol
4. I am sorry if this was brought up... I glanced over some of the posts, might have missed it. I was kind of disappointed with the character creator. There were instances where I was given tons of choice, such as picking color of anything... skin, hair, eyes. But the body can only be muscular or not. There are no various shapes (maybe even 3 "types" would do, per race). I pictured my character to be short-ish (although I am still putting him taller than normal because I know most guys crank up the hight for their characters so that even "average" guys seem short, which is annoying), muscular and kind of bulky. Unfortunately he looks like a model of a smith, rather than an actual smith. Lack of facial hair for male midlander faces is also an issue for me. I don't want an old man face just to have a mustache worth having, you know? This coupled with the fact that there is no "age" scale, and my character came out looking younger than I intended. I either plan on toying around more or even possibly trying alternative race/face combos to get it right. I must say that the scars you can elect to put on the face are a good touch. It makes me wish for body scars. And how about tattoos? That's be cool. I understand people who may wish to play pretty characters though, even if it doesn't fully make sense given what they do in-game... or they have to create a certain RP background to accomodate the good looks. A lot of gamers (just in general, but I assume RPers too) play for escapism.
5. Well, it's news to me that people don't RP levels and gear. I guess I was planning to by default without realizing the alternative option. I do want to make note though, that it's natural to have people who are better than you (especially when you start out). I mean, unless you want to play as "heroes" of the realm or something, it shouldn't be a problem to allow the fact that certain people are more experienced, right? I mean, that's just how it is in RL, so it'd seem like pretty realistic RP! As far as my testimonial goes: I have played some 1.0 and never RPed. When I discovered this community (after finding out that people actually RP in an mmoRPg) people have been really friendly and informative. Not only am I new to the community of 2+years but also new to RP, and folks have been really nice. After posting in the mentor thread a had a few people go out of their way to PM me and offered help with the character concept. I myself PMed a few people to thank them for very informative posts, and I believe we began a back and forth dialogue that may carry over into possible RP in the future. I've had plenty of suggestions/help with a sub-community / linkshell "Eorzean Labor Union" which was just a rough idea when I dreamed it up. Thanks to those 1.0 people, it's now a formed concept ready to accept ANY DoH/DoL. Obviously I wouldn't make a community that left out people like myself, newbies to Hydaelyn Roleplayers. Joining a "primary" guild was pretty easy all things considering. I PM'ed the leader of a guild I liked, and after some correspondence to make sure we were a good fit, I was invited in! I didn't feel discriminated against, even though it is a heavy RP guild and I am a new RPer. I never felt excluded from any discussion even though I asked general questions about RP even within said discussions. Now I really feel like a poster child for how welcoming the Legacy people are, so I'll stop with the personal examples. I feel that if some new people do not feel comfortable, they should just go wherever. No amount of debating will make a certain number of them comfortable. I personally don't have issues with approaching people and wedging myself into the community, not that a lot of that was required here. I don't understand the "awkward" people, that's just not me... but I am pretty sure I'd be annoyed by the constant groaning of exclusion when all the doors are wide open, so I'd actually prefer them go to a brand new server and make hay there. :frustrated: Sorry if that came across as mean... I would prefer to be in a server with all RPers there, the world would feel even more alive then. But if no amount of reasoning can make that happen, I am all for people doing whatever they feel happy with at the moment
6. Fish not being useful is a lot more detrimental for Fishermen than a Dragoon (or any other class) having drops that don't NPC well... because drops are not the sole reason to play Dragoon, right? A true equivalent would be for a DoW/DoM class not to be useful in combat at all. Anyway, I understand that SE has to watch out for RMT and make fishing more enjoyable. I haven't played FFXI but from some play time on 1.0 I found fishing to be pretty cool as is, and the fish sold for good coin, roughly the same as other DoL drops. I hope they didn't just gimp one class of the game due to RMT, that'd be really sad.
7. Now I know where to peddle the body butter.
8. That doesn't account for player to player transactions (auctions house or bazaars, whatever it may be). Sure I can sell a drop for 3 gil but if a crafter needs it to make a 100k item, wouldn't I sell it for a lot more to him? Same with fish. Wouldn't the RMT just do that then, sell to players? Basically if people need fish for whatever reason, it will be worth something. It'd suck if it was truly valueless.
9. I wonder what the outrage will be if he said that about a DoW or DoW class. "Obviously RMT playing Dragoon are a problem, we do not want to make playing Dragoon valuable, we want to make playing this class an achievement to the player." Now how many threads will there be in outcry? But it's just a DoL so, who cares -.- DoL (from my limited experience in 1.0) have always been given the shaft. It really bothers me that they still have the guts to say "If you want to just play a DoH/DoL job, you can!" when in reality they are second-class professions at best. This shows that hasn't changed much in 2.0. :frustrated:
10. BUMP OF AWESOMENESS. It's official guys: ELU Linkshell ad It's modeled after a mix of other linkshell ads I've seen, and I hope it's ok! Please let me know if you spot any glaring problems with anything. Of course, more members (both heavy and light crafters/gatherers) would be great! Consider it an "Intermission" of IC crafters!
11. Thanks Blue Skies and whoever else planned this get together, the pictures look like a fun time. Unfortunately I couldn't make it, even though I really wanted to. It was a great opportunity to meet people IC and OOC Hopefully I'm invited next time around!
12. Looking over some interviews and info about the game from E3, found this Q&A with Yoshi-P. Link Anyone want to fish after hearing that? I understand that some people want to be fish casually, just for fun. Doesn't this potentially wipe out fishing as a source of income though for players how invest time into this DoL? I was looking forward to it but now I don't know...
13. Hey man, welcome You seem to be a cool guy with a ton of experience RPing. Hope you find this community as welcoming as I did, people are pretty great FFXIV: ARR lore is a little messed up IMO due to the game being so bad at first, a lot of the lore had to be bent out of shape for things to make sense, I guess. It seems some characters have endured the Calamity, and some have "time skipped" (this is lore-endorsed time skipping mind you) to the present year of ARR, which makes things a little :dazed: in the beta testing. (Some characters are "canon" other "non-canon" until game launch I guess?) Have you decided if your character went through the Calamity or time skipped yet? It might be cool to make some connections especially if the seawolf Roegadyn lived through it and was around Limsa Lominsa. I am new at RP but I hope to surround myself with excellent RPers and learn from them! Either way, hope you have a nice stay... and lore tip, don't get stabbed by these: :tonberry:
14. Disclaimer: This is NOT a guild, but rather a community/network that serves characters who partake in crafting/gathering. Characters can be members of the ELU regardless of how much or little they craft/gather. Find yourself working a full day for barely enough gil to afford a bed and a meal? Eager to take up skilled work as an Apprentice? Want secure work prospects both for city and private jobs? Join the Eorzean Labor Union!
15. Oh ok, I think I get it... sort of like a alternative timeline thing where whatever happens "doesn't count"? Would it be possible to go there in canon? It's very much something my character would do, and I'd love to use it as an opportunity to meet people IC in the "regular" timeline.
16. Sorry for a dumb question... non-canon? What do you mean by that? :?
17. Pretty much what Uther said. It would seem to grand to even consider killing. My character wouldn't have the ego to think he could slay something like that. It came from a moon and destroyed the world as he knew it. Even the Garleans couldn't do much about it. Ernest has some foul words to say about the beast, but at the same time he knows he is just a man and if he sees that thing again, he isn't sticking around to try to destroy it... unless there was some other means besides direct combat to subdue / seal it away somewhere. But this is offtopic now, anyway. Arg.
18. I wouldn't even know where to start with journals... or if to start at all. I had no idea people did that, I didn't see journals posted here before on these forums. I kind of want to try, at some point after I flesh out my character a little more but... he's probably really going suck at writing. It may be a few lines here and there, if anything. Yeah... wow just surprised!
19. I'd think that some characters (mine, for example) would be to overwhelmed to come after such a force with that type of vengeance. It's like going against a volcano for erupting and causing your village to be wipe out. Ernest is just like this about it: :dazed: And to further praise Misericorde (since this is what this thread is now ) Bahamut is (or can be) relevant to the main concept from what I understand. They'd seek to go after it by understanding exactly what has happened, how, and what can be done to prevent it while taking out all the misconception/superstition out of it. Hope that makes sense The theme is a little complex, but that's why I personally like it.
20. Wouldn't use it because no mic Sad, I know. I'd possibly use VoIP for endgame stuff only, and it'd be the guild one.
21. I had fun reading Shuck's story which have me a feel for the guild's RP style, if you want to read it, click these words right here. They are a really fun bunch, although gritty as all hell.
22. If I can recover my 1.0 character I wouldn't mind making/getting rid of stuff for brand new players. Sounds like a potentially great place to IC'ly make ground for the Eorzean Labor Union & meet some crafters! I will try to make this event
