  1. There is also this! http://fandango.exp.jp/name-generator.php#result Select your race/gender and clickie the generate button! This way you can sift through various names that you might find interesting
  2. Anyone who already plans on going to Balmung is not supposed to vote. This is for people who want a different, non-legacy, server.
  3. I don't commonly swear myself unless a situation presents itself in such a way that I can't get past the shock of the moment and think of a different set of words. Most of the time the "bad words" just come out as a series of disgruntled noises. (Like with typing this the first time. I hit some weird button and the page navigated away. I made a loud "naaaaAAAAAUUGH!" noise.) With games, and RP, I like to watch the NPC dialogue to find what's already used in the world. While I get that I'm an adult, there are other adults, and lots of kids that -think- they're adults, it just doesn't feel like our real world profanities really fit in fantasy worlds (beyond certain ones, like "damn" for an example).
  4. Oh hey, Geek and Sundry! I've been following them on youtube for a while now. I'll definitely hop over and give the vid a looksee!
  5. Most likely I'll be going with "Rellor", Mya'var's deceased husband's name (from her pre ffxiv lore), or I'll go through a list of her childrens /descendants names.
  6. Amg I knew I knew your art from somewhere! Land of Lions! I LOVE THAT COMIC SO DAMN MUCH ERMAGERD!!! :bouncy:
  7. I'd been planning on being a Bard just because it seemed to combine the two skill sets that my character has. Mya'var's initial design was based on lore created for a Minecraft RP server, and there her race's favorite sport was archery. Over time, and after various events that happened over thousands of years, she occasionally practiced healing magic. Y'know, trying to explain her in a short paragraph is really dang hard . Anywho~ she was never a performer/singer/dancer/musician so I'm still not sure how I'd RP the job's unique musical skills.
  8. The trouble with computer upgrades, and why my other computer is going to stay exactly the way it is until I can afford a new one, is that one part always depends on -all the other things- in the rig. You want to upgrade your processor? Make sure you know what motherboard you have, and exactly what types of processors it can house. If you don't get a new motherboard, you've got to remember to buy a new tube of thermal paste to replace the old stuff. Oh, you want to go ahead and upgrade the motherboard too? Sometimes rigs are too small, or too big, to house this lovely new board. Gotta look into a new one of those. Graphics cards require motherboard compatibility and a power supply strong enough to handle the card as well as powering everything else in the rig. etc. etc. :dazed: It's no big deal for people familiar with the process, or who are really good with parts, but some of us get "tech induced headaches". I also noticed that you've got 1g of RAM, and this can pose a problem as well for running games. It's the video card, processor, and RAM that have to work together to process all the information that is being sent through the computer. From the sound of it the three of them are very old secretaries dying under a mountain of papers. When my husband wanted to get a new gaming computer it took me -years- to get him to stop trying to buy factory rigs and having me upgrade them with whatever parts those dinky things could hold. Eventually he listened and went to iBuyPower.com. We watched for sales, took our time, and were able to build him a really awesome rig for $1200. It doesn't have "the best" parts, but they're plenty good enough to play FFXIV:ARR on fully maxed settings with no lag. I have no idea what kind of budget you guys are looking at, but I would suggest for a long term rig to save as much to the side as possible for flexibility in terms of rig accessories (keyboard/mouse/monitor/speakers/headphones/etc.) and shipping charges.
  9. I'm familiar with the game Caysen is talking about, and I played it for a very long time before giving it up. The lack of the trinity, and everyone having their self sufficient capacities, resulted in zergs through dungeons with very little team work. I played an archer in that game as well, and managed to solo some packs of mobs, and even a boss (as a caster) when my party died because of those "utility" abilities. I'm not saying FFXIV:ARR is doing this, just what I perceived during my time playing this particular game. Personally I haven't messed with the cross class abilities of 2.0, but in 1.0 our options were plenty. Those options, however, didn't always result in making one's role in a team more effective or efficient. As an archer I was able to watch combat from a mid to long range vantage point, and I would see many of my teammates making very odd decisions not just with what they were using, but with what they would choose to ignore because "It looks cool". We weren't dying, and they were having fun, so there wasn't always any real harm in playing around. As Caysen also mentioned; Limited cross-class skills is good. None is bad. Too many is also bad. SE's goal seems to be to generate camaraderie via forms of necessity and the removal of certain types of competition. We have our "holy trinity" of roles, class designs that are kept unique with limited branches into other classes, and the removal of the familiar FFXI exp grind/claim system means players no longer fall asleep while leveling or go into a rage because their targets are getting stolen. There's also the addition of future classes and/or jobs. With the list of possible additions we'd be looking at a very saturated pool of abilities with overwhelming results without those abilities being treated more uniquely. I really liked what I saw in the first weekend of Phase 3 (Besides animations. Whoah those animations.), and I've got high hopes for the mid to high level content.

    Hello!

Thank you for all of the kind welcome's everyone! :moogle: Right now my husband is working on a criminal justice degree, and currently I'm looking at one of those "general arts" degrees, because the community college we're going to is a little limited in degrees I'm interested in. Both of our goals are 2 year terms, and transferable to a university, though he's aiming more towards a long term career goal. I just like school \o.o/

    Hello!

Hello there everyone! I'm Mya'var (My-ah-var), but most folks end up calling me "Mya", or "My", for short. I'm a long time MMORPG gamer, and I suppose a "Light" RPer. I think the only time I was a very heavy RPer was when I managed a RP Minecraft server called Celestial Dreams. RPs all teh timez! Since then a friend of mine and I have kept in mind our characters from that Minecraft server, and are more than likely going to do a "reincarnation" of a sort when the game launches. He even toyed with ideas about ways for our Celestial Dreams selves, and stories, to have a connection to the Hydaelyn world (Not in a way to break the lore of either world, but more as a "between us" sort of story). It would be -way- too much to type out here, but maybe someday I'll get a draft all typed up for sharage~ I've never been very ... "creative" ... in terms of stories or coming up with raw ideas, so RP has always been a little hard. This sort of makes me a "RP as much like myself as possible" person. It's simpler, and makes for personality choices that I can quickly make on the fly. Besides, I'd rather insert myself into Eorzea instead of pretending I'm someone completely different :moogle: It's also why I'm going to try and reincarnate my Mya'var character to the best of my ability. I already "know" her from several years of RP/brainstorming, and I'd honestly hate giving her up to make something brand new. This got way longer than I thought it would . Lesse~~ Outside of games I'm a housewife. Normal activities include cooking, cleaning, knitting, crocheting, building in Minecraft, and staring at Twitter all day. Oh, and "window shopping" on various websites. My husband is in summer college classes, I'll be starting in the fall on August 27th (awesome timing, I know), and most likely I'll be trying to pick up a job (20-ish hours a week) to make a little extra money. tl;dr I'm a lady, I like MMOs, RP is pretty cool.
