  1. As far as drama between shells goes... everyone is biased and has their point of view, and all parties involved will always present themselves in better light than those who they are arguing with. While I do believe there is only one right/truth to the matter, it's extremely difficult to get to (esp online) because of the things I mentioned and ego on top of that. Best thing for the Coalition to do IMO is try to be a friendly place for any RP'er. If it's not then after the first couple of destructive dramas, bans, anger, misunderstandings etc. this place will be a ghost town. Neither group will feel comfortable here, and as more dramas hit the community will drift further away from each other. To counter this I think the best thing to do would be to listen and understand each side, and make each side understand why the other is upset, while keeping things positive so that neither group hates the RPC itself for anything (like choosing sides for example).
  2. I think the RPC should be a central gathering spot for RP'ers and guilds. Before the game launches out number one objective should be to pick one server for all of us. After FFXIV launches though, RPC could be a server-wide RP hub used for sharing ideas and stories, promoting guilds, getting to know fellow RP'ers who might not be in your guild etc.. As for server-wide RP events, well the question in my mind is, who would be setting those up? The option in my mind are 1) There is an RPC staff, might be composed of one person from every group, that schedules events. 2) Guilds themselves use the RPC to advertise events which are open to other groups. 3) Both? That still needs to be decided... but regardless of our choice this gave me an idea: An event template for all characters that wish to participate in cross guild events. For example we can have people grouped up by what RP they are willing to partake in rather than what Guild they're in (since that wont matter for server-wide events). That way if people want to invite only a certain bunch that will tolerate their story, they can just go to that list and contact them. Or if people don't want the aforementioned winged/blue skinned characters at their event, they can invite only those that are against that. This would work similar to closed or open events on Facebook. This way the RPC itself isn't being punitive or dictatorial about which RP goes on, but rather the people who set up specific events can chose if they want to include everyone or not. This is a natural way to weed out people whose RP style doesn't mesh with your own.
  3. I've got a few ideas from reading your posts and a few thoughts of my own to contribute. Since this is just a "site update" thread I'll wait and contribute when we have a discussion at a later time though. Perhaps we can use this as a starting zone for discussion before this site goes live as to have some conversation already started for new members to dive into.
  4. This is the first sketch of Mason. Look might alter slightly, it's not perfect yet. I'm also taking requests to do character sketches or any other drawing. I just need as detailed a description as possible and images. For example you can tell me you want the eyes to look like this person, nose to look similar to that person etc. I am by no means a pro and can't promise anything. My semester is starting so it might take me a while to get to it also.
  5. If that's true I guess SE is moving faster than most people expect. From what I gather most think that the invite was for Closed Beta. I was under that impression as well.
  6. A few months in closed Beta? I've got the invite on Jan 4th... and I hear that it will likely start at the end of this month. You are sure closed Beta already started, and a few months in at that? I'm going to do some updating as well... although I don't know anything about the reqs yet, some info would be great. Updating to 6gb ram and a GTX 275 graphics card. How about you? Also, any suggestions?
  7. The Lost Boys one and the one with you and the Orc in the forest are particularly stunning. Very good placement and framing.
  8. Personal info RL Name: Friends call me Dre RL Age: 22 Country: US Timezone: EST RL Sex: Male Click here to visit my intro thread for more personal info Why do you like to RP? I like to write and act which is basically what RP is. It's also a rush because it's in real time, with other characters which you aren't in control of. Makes things interesting and entertaining. RP is one of my creative outlets and forms of entertainment. RP Preferences Quick Overview Combat Preferences: 60% skill, 25% situation, 15% background Romance Preferences: Any level (No ERP) Storyline Preferences: Light-Supernatural Major Injuries: Contact ahead of time. Perma-death: Not at this time. Mature Content: R rated is okay. Cross-Guild RP/events: Yes Contact Preference: PM or in-game Detailed Response Are you willing to RP a fight scene in game? Depends. If I know the character and player well and they know me, I'm willing to do it on the spot. If I don't know them too well we'd have to chat a bit OOC first just to make sure we're on the same page. I don't like scripting anything unless absolutely necessary, so usually the fight would end just depending on the circumstances. Of course I'm willing to play a long if it's essential to a plot. I tend to give the "villain" more power, or anyone who is outnumbered just to make things interesting. Doesn't mean they will always win though. :pirat: What is your preferred method of combat? (/randoming, skill based, etc) It's a mixture of situation and skill. A mildly skilled character cannot take down a more experienced one directly but perhaps if the situation is right they can tip the advantage. It'd say 60% skill based, 25% situation, and 15% character background. Are you willing to take major injuries in game? (ie limb loss) Yes, but I better have a good reason to! Must be planned ahead of time. Are you willing to let your character die permanently? Yes, only after I no longer wish to RP with them though. Again, must be planned ahead of time. Are you willing to RP romance in game? (ie Level of romance willing to go) Yes. I wouldn't RP the very intimate moments however, I prefer it just "fade to black" when it comes to the bedroom. What kind of non-romantic RP relationships are you willing to take part in? (family ties, etc) Any as long as I am familiar with the person who wants to have a deep relationship; for example a brother/sister. They'd have to actually be playing for a while, not just quit and leave me to explain what happened to my brother/sister heh. I am generally down to at least brainstorm something! How far away from the basic lore are you willing to go? There is a chance I will go as far as possible as long as the story is original and well thought out in my opinion. Basically only if I really like your idea. Usually my own character stories tend to go a distance from what you just see in the game itself. If it's not completely detached and I think I will have fun with it I'm down. Of course I have no issue with stories and characters which rarely/ever stray from the direct world of the game. How do you feel about mature content? (Stories/Characters which are in the realm of "Rated R") I don't mind it at all, in fact a lot of my own content would be considered rated R. Everything is situational though, there will always be R rated stories which I wouldn't want to be a part of. Views on chat functions (IC vs OOC)? I like to be IC as much as possible. If in close proximity I like to RP over /say, dislike RPing in /party. I use tells for RP when I can "whisper", otherwise OOC for /tells. I prefer guild chat to be mostly IC, and by mostly I mean almost always. If you have questions I'd be glad to clarify anything so just ask!
