  1. Linking would work too, sure. I don't think it's really work to copy/paste something but I guess with a link it'd be as current as it could be since it'll take you directly to the guild.
  2. I assume all guilds will post their rules here yes? This is to keep it conveniently all on this site. I think we can all agree that that's productive. I don't see how it's that much more work to copy/paste the rosters here as well. Again, to keep them all conveniently here, which actually increases 'productivity' for most people (except those that have to copy/paste it and keep it updated I guess.) Anyway, just a suggestion.
  3. This got me thinking... rosters. Each guild can update their roster, say once a month (the RPC representative can edit the roster thread for their guild). Every name on the roster can be linked to that person's Directory/Library page. There can also be a Freelancers roster. That way we can see who the freelancers are, too.
  4. It sounds like a good idea, but then I wonder what exactly would it be used for?
  5. No, but the moment you create a discussion thread and say you are open to criticism... yes, yes you do. Also even if I am on the side that would want criticism. it wont mean I'll take it all seriously. For example I know that a certain person/guild has a style of RP which I personally don't like, even if they give me a harsh critique, I might just brush it off if I feel like their points are based on their preference of RP style. Basically what I am getting at is, even if you do open up a thread for discussion it doesn't mean you NEED to take all of the criticism posted on it as valid. I feel strongly about this issue as well. Just as with the discussion/criticism I advise for the hands-off approach. Make all stories legit to post, but require they be marked appropriately. What Kes suggests is a fine way to do it. Perhaps we can also have stories section split into PG-13 and R rated sub-categories on the forum. That way a person really has a choice to click on the forum to view the explicit stories or not. Here's to self control. I assume if one doesn't want to look at gory stories they can steer clear of clicking on obviously labeled threads.
  6. Yeah. The thing is, you don't have to post a discussion about your story if you're not comfortable. People that want wider variety of feedback should have the option to get that. It's just an option.
  7. We could always sign up with fake names! j/k You're right though we need 70 before going live, and to do that I think we should give people a little more time to sign up and the word to spread. As for who should be doing this... well everyone who still has friends from FFXI that RP. Ideally the leaders should be able to contact almost everyone that joined their LS, but failing that just get as many people as possible through word of mouth. For example leader sends email to 5 people, telling them to send an email to at least 1 other person they know would be interested. That's 10 right there! (just an example of snowball sample =P ) While I think the deadlines should be extended, the anxiety shouldn't be dialed down too low 'cause the quota is still to be met. Although Castiel, you personally shouldn't be worrying past a certain point because other people should be taking some responsibility. Don't mean to sound harsh, just sayin'.
  8. Over 100!!! Can you even imagine 100 RP'ers at an event? My mind boggles. Personally I can't wait to see how the RPC influences the FFXIV world. So far though, I've enjoyed the discussions we've had and looking forward to having more. The RPC has reconnected me with old friends and made it easier to stay in touch. I've also met some fellow RP'ers from other servers, and hope to get to know more as that that number on the bottom of the page grows. So a bow to all of you for making this young community already feel like home and a tip of the hat to Castiel for getting the party started!
  9. Wow that's quite extensive! Thanks for including my character.
  10. I'm certainly curious if Berkan/Darkcat/Dirant made it into your game! Also if you need to use any of em, feel free.
  11. I was over simplifying it, but also talking from a new player's perspective. To a new RP'er all you can see is San d'Orian cathedral, Bastok's fading temple, and the Star Sybil in Windurst who is perceived as a messenger to Altana in a way. So without all that expansion info, when you usually make a character and their religion, it's hard to change it RP-wise because of OOC reasons (for example, a new expansion which has another philosophy you like) in the future. EDIT: I've only read the tiny bit of lore they have out once, but I don't remember them mentioning specific gods. Is that where it's mentioned? Can someone post whatever info there is here so that I and others who don't know the specifics can read about it? Might as well start a hub of info available about religion here.
  12. I'll put this idea in my pocket for now and maybe later on after the game comes out and we know more about stuff, we can talk about it again. I do like that they went with a more polytheistic system than in FFXI. In FFXI I felt the Altana faith wasn't as flexible. You either worship her or not. Here I feel like more people in general will be religious even if it is paying homage to only 1 of 12 gods.
  13. I can tell you've heard Richard Dawkins speak on religion. The only flaw with this is every major religion proclaims that it's the truth, so if we were to write holy scripture for the main religion in Eorzea, it must presume that it itself is the truth. Of course characters can then dismiss it, or poke holes in it, or worship it. This wont be my or any other character spouting something. What I had in mind was us OOC'ly writing "the bible" for the religion of Eorzea which would be acknowledged by RP'ers as such. Hence the voting on every little bit the people who come together submit.
  14. I agree that this project should be taken on well after the game comes out. If things get changed later on, and the text that we make contradicts it to a degree where it's a conflict between the lore and the text, we can always agree that it was a mistranslation of the text, and perhaps translate it better. For example there is no one bible, there are several "versions" of it, so we can pretty much do the same, just update it if it conflicts with any future lore that might be in expansions. There are creative ways to solve this issue. The way it would be written is chapter by chapter, story by story where after a completed story or a set of moral teachings or w/e else the "sacred text committee" decide to write in there, it would be put up for a vote if it's agreeable or not. As in, do you see such a story being in a sacred text of this religion? If yes, it gets approved and it's in, if no maybe something could be changed.
  15. I wouldn't even try without the lore.
  16. From the Library section- Religion/philosophy: Doesn't worship deities directly, but believes that everyone is placed here for a reason. To praise the Gods is to make the best of what you've been given aka self-improvement. Morality is not absolute and Gods only punish those who did not make the best of their lives. This will be it, unless there is a god which stands for self-improvement or something similar, in which case Mason might pray to him/her. Don't think Mason will be too religious even if there is a god to match his philosophy. The professor from one of my religion classes held this view- that god is in the universe, and one most polish their mind so that the universe is reflected on it... Needless to say I disagreed. Based on my character though I think this is close to what he would believe. At some point my story will delve into the history of the second wave of migration of Hyurs to Eorozaa. The remaining people of the tribe who migrated (from wherever they did come from) would be mentioning "Almighty" a lot, indicating monotheism. I really wanted religion to be something more tangible and "within the world" outside of people making religious characters and certain buildings being dedicated to it. I wanted to create a holy book, but the scope of the project was overwhelming for me alone. Perhaps now with us united, a few people would be interested in doing a lot of work- writing sacred passages, quotes and such. I've read the old testament, new testament, and the quran- studied them, wrote papers on em, etc. I am familiar with those texts, but not with any significant portions of scripture from Hinduism which FFXIV religion seems to be mimicking. I'm not implying we should copy/paste from our religions into FFXIV, but rather use their texts as a guide. Maybe this is a lot of work for almost no benefit, outside of being able to point out to specific teachings of prophets or w/e in certain situations. For me it will add a lot more depth to religion of FFXIV, which I think it's worth working for. Plus it'd be a cool project to accomplish together and publicize here. Let me know what you guys think and if anyone's in support/interested in helping.
  17. Yeah I was wondering what that's supposed to mean!? But this is awesome, hopefully as times goes on and we get more and more organized we'll get totally popular~
  18. Still no release date, but amazon posted it up for pre-order. Here is the link for those who are interested: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0036C ... B002I0JJ2U Personally I'm going to hold off to see what the Collector's Edition will include and some other deals that may be offered later. Heck I might even tell a store to hold it for me and pick it up myself. Delivery sucks
  19. I have many speculations/wishful thinking... Really I hope SE didn't rehash some of the old zones with the new engine. Also it'd be cool to have a feel of a player-run economy. For example there will be some form of the AH, but those that go the DoH and DoL route can make business by setting up a shop. First as an apprentice in a craft and whatever the DoL will have people can just synth similar to FFXI. As they get more Gil and experience they can set up a small tent, and keep upgrading that to bigger size to carry more wares, have more employees etc..The "relic" status for a DoL and DoH could be an actual building where they can sell stuff and hire NPCs to make sure it's open 24/7. I think if SE isn't playing us for fools, FFXIV should revolutionize the MMO world. Here's to hoping that they've learned from past mistakes of XI and other MMOs.
  20. Cool I'll check that one out. I've been looking for a gaming podcast.
  21. Just wondering if anyone out there enjoys a podcast or two once in a while. I listen to a bunch while commuting or jogging, here are my favs: The Adam Corolla The Geek Show Mediocre show Inappropriate behavior Atheist News The Good Atheist The Onion news/radio Do you listen to any of these? Listen to some other ones you wanna share? Post em!
  22. I can only comment based on XI. No idea how the game mechanics will be in XIV so there's really no way to say how summoner will work in that game. In XI they were just too slow and redundant. BP every 30 seconds is slow for endgame where mobs are killed really fast (or so I hear). Most of the BPs are not that unique, meaning other jobs who work a bit faster AND can do other things on top of what summons can do are desired more than smn in cookie cutter merit parties. Some fast pulling ability, unique sleep type spell, and little to no recast on BPs would make them similar to a BRD in terms of what the party gets out of inviting one. If they gave them unique BPs it'd be icing on the cake... SMN would kinda be like COR (not similar to the job itself, but rather "usefulness" to the party).
  23. Here is a list of forums where the announcement has been made: Eorzeapedia Core Zam I for one am interested in the responses we get this time around, especially since we need to establish communication with RPers as well as the general public. Let me know if it has been posted elsewhere so that we can keep these in one place for easy check up.
  24. To give you a short and quick answer before anything happens: Just emails/ personal contacts... NOT other forums and FFXIV sites.
