LINKSHELL LORE⸻OOC RULES⸻APPLICATION⸻THE CLOAK & DAGGER EBONGUARD is a lore-compliant hybrid IC/OOC criminal network linkshell on Balmung. While oriented primarily toward morally-ambiguous lawbreakers, the linkshell is open for any interested parties to join—after all, picking up the telltale black linkpearls is a simple enough task in and of itself… WHAT DO YOU MEAN HYBRID LINKSHELL? Ebonguard being a hybrid IC/OOC linkshell means basically: the linkshell is meant as an in-character means of communication and exists on an in-character level (as does the network itself), but OOC chatter is not only allowed but encouraged! While the linkshell has a Discord that all members are required to join in order to maintain membership in the in-game linkshell (as our Discord is where major announcements and the like are posted). having an OOC channel in-game is important for organizing and communicating with each other. However, RP over the LS takes precedence over OOC chatter, so members are expected to be polite and respectful if there is a shift toward IC happenings in the channel. WHAT IS EBONGUARD LOOKING FOR? Ebonguard is a criminal network LS, but it’s open for characters of all persuasions and alignments to join due to the fact that, well, it’s an actual linkpearl from an in-character standpoint. As a result, there’s no real restrictions on the sorts of characters we’ll accept. Anything that fits within the scope of the lore goes! This doesn’t mean that every applicant will be accepted into the linkshell, though, since the linkshell itself tends more toward grounded characters with fantastical elements in the background, as opposed to characters who spend every night trying to take over the world or signing a new Void pact. Due to the nature of the network, there’s no IC power structure, and so characters who fulfill any sort of role or archetype are welcome, from information brokers to honest thieves to sellswords and beyond. WHAT KINDS OF EVENTS DOES THE LINKSHELL RUN? Ebonguard has over the course of its run, done story-driven events, criminal shenanigans such as heists and cons, and social events geared toward letting members of the network get to know each other. We are currently looking at getting a longer DMed story going for the LS; for updates about it and to see what has been done so far, check out our scenario tag! The Cloak & Dagger is run by the leader of the linkshell and is intended to provide a hub for the linkshell members to use as they wish. It is located at The Goblet Ward 11 Plot 55 and is currently looking for volunteers who are interested in helping to run a public event on a roughly-monthly basis on Sundays (as schedules allow). Two lovely volunteers have stepped up for the first two time slots, but we still need one last performer to round out the end of the night. It doesn't have to be at exactly midnight (Sunday is a weeknight after all!) but having something to draw the event to a close would be nice! Our next opening date is set for August 12 at our usual time! We're trying something a little bit new this time; if you are attending for the criminal aspect of the venue and/or order a Cloak & Dagger, then the staff would appreciate it if you would set your status to 'looking for party.' We're trying this out as a way to boost visibility for both the staff and other patrons! The flyer, with a click-through to the post on Tumblr is below. It's a lot easier for the staff to handle both the event-running aspect of the venue and push the darker/criminal aspect of it at the same time if there are more enough, so if you think you might be interested in helping out a little with the event, then check out this thread: There's no long-term commitment required, but The Cloak & Dagger is run entirely by volunteers rather than any set organization or group (while Ebonguard is affiliated with the venue, working the venue or even attending these events isn't required; we do this because we want to!), so any interest or spreading of the word helps us a lot!

Our opening this past Sunday went swimmingly despite being very short-handed on staff with a large turn-out of people, so I've remade the volunteer fishing post on Tumblr and am bumping this thread! Hello! I also updated the first post so that the graphics match, even if the content is more or less still the same! The Cloak & Dagger is a lot of fun to run, but if we had more people we could make it even better (since with more staff, we would have more of an opportunity to let the staff do the crime RP that some people come for). There's a really cool set of volunteers rounded up so far, and just this past opening we've seen someone get shot (by security) and then a fist fight about it in the bushes (involving security). I hear there was pistol-whipping involved? At least they followed the "take it outside" rule! It was amazing, and the staff are getting some pretty cool post-RP out of it. We are also very lucky to have had a medic in attendance. Maybe we should look at having one on staff? Because we were so shorthanded this past opening, though, we are planning on pushing our next opening back a week so that we can potentially get more people in on the action. So what does that mean? It means this could be you!

With our next opening being this coming Sunday (July 22), I figured I should give this a little bump! The Cloak & Dagger as a venue thrives on volunteers to help out, so if you're interested in helping out, then by all means give me a shout! After our July opening, our next opening will be August 5! We're still in the process of deciding when our openings or the rest of the year will be, but we do our best to schedule around our volunteers!

As it may have been noticed, both inside and outside the linkshell, things have been pretty quiet. But we’re working hard to change that, and this is the first step! In a way, this is a sort of ‘relaunch’ of the LS, and by ‘relaunch’ I actually mean ‘we have stuff in order and we know what we want to do and how we want to do it, so we’re going to go forward and do our best to bring out the best in this cool thing we already have.’ There are no big changes in the strictest sense of the word ‘changes,’ but in an effort to get things moving a bit more, we have decided to take some ideas for a spin! THE APPLICATION PROCESS For a long time when the linkshell was started, we didn’t have anything beyond our Google Form application. As much as we like the concept of interviews, which we implemented later, we don’t really have the manpower or motivation to do a sit-down chat for every single person who wants to join, so we’re going back to just having the application. This should make things much faster and remove the possibility of meaning to do things and then forgetting because life came up (because now we just need to look over what we’re given and give a yes/no.) CRIMES OF OPPORTUNITY Crimes of Opportunity are a new thing that Ebonguard is going to do going forward. These are basically crime-themed RP prompts! They are kept intentionally vague and are meant for anyone (regardless of whether they’re a member of the LS or not) to be able to take and use however they see fit. The prompts can entail formal jobs or they can simply suggest a scenario or situation that could be used as a backdrop for something else. The first Crime of Opportunity will be posted on Thursday, July 19, and from there will be scheduled to post every two weeks! We welcome community suggestions and input for these prompts, so, if you have an idea you want to throw out there then by all means contact us @ebonguardls! LONG-TERM PLOTLINES (EBONGUARD SCENARIO) The Scenario was put on hold due to a combination of life (summer classes are a pain!) and low activity, but it will resume sometime early August! The first event in the current arc (and the last one that was played) can be read up on here! While long-term plotlines are intended for the members of Ebonguard, people who want to take things for a spin are more than welcome to get in touch!

OUR NEXT OPENING NIGHT IS ON JUNE 10! Rather than pre-booking performances, this time it's more of an 'open mic' sort of thing. The stage will be open for anyone who wants to show off their talent over the course of the night; we’ve had wonderful performers for the past few openings and want to give others the chance to use it. The stage is not limited to usage by performers; if there are any other criminal-oriented events, groups, or plotlines, then people are free to hop up and advertise these things in-character as well. Before the June 10 opening, I am going to try to update the basement with some new items added in 4.3 as well, so please look forward to it! The tweaks will probably be minor, but getting to use cool new items is always exciting!

In light of slowness getting back on applications I’d like to offer an apology (again)! These past few weeks, the semester has been eating my life. I am (was) a first-year college student, so figuring out finals-season has been somewhat of a learning curve considering that I go to school on the east coast and class schedules had to be adjusted a few times due to inclement weather so, uh... Knowing what was going on at any given point in time has been a little difficult! Additionally, a lot of our officers have been similarly busy, and between life, academics, and work, there are a good number of applications that have slipped through the cracks. I’m going to be doing my absolute best over the course of this upcoming week to get through applications, in order of their submission date. I will also encourage the other officers to do the same as much as they’re able, so if you get a random poke on Discord and you have applied to the LS since the start of the new year, then chances are pretty good it’s one of us!! So so so sorry again! Crow P.S. After outstanding applications are taken care of, keep an eye out for a huge recruitment update!

We have two (!) lovely performers slated to perform on May 20! It should be a blast! Our job board is pretty snazzy too. Play a n'er-do-well? Wanna plop some RP hooks out into the water to see who bites? Then drop me a line and the entry will be added to the job board for easy viewing on the venue's information page right alongside the menu and house rules! We're also always accepting volunteers to help staff these events! Without them, these things wouldn't be possible! <3

After a long period of humming, hawing, and (of course) planning, Crow’s placed a task before the network. Of course, he doesn’t expect work for free… The next Scenario event is tentatively scheduled for May 27 (subject to change). (Key Image Reads: “The elusive leader of the Ebonguard has ound a job worthy of the network’s attention: a job that would land those who would take it upon themselves not only in his good graces, but potentially position themselves as a major player in the network at large… Setting his sights upon a racketeering ring known as the Jackal’s Spite, Crow’s intentions going in was simply to crush their capabilities and toy with what remained in order to open avenues for the Ebonguard to expand.
