1. The main scenario kind of makes you the most important person in the world. Being a part of events that take place in the story is fine, but I wouldn't make your character the one guy who did it all. The storyline is a way for you to feel connected to the world and learn about what's going on. If you have half a dozen people RPing that they're the story's main character then things are going to get really weird in a big hurry.
2. ... This post really makes me smile I'm not sure why. A single thread is all it takes for corruption to take hold. Your path to the Dark Side begins! I felt this was appropriate even though the moron who made it didn't know that "want's" is full of fail and lose. Also, he/she/it didn't capitalize Sith. Come to think of it, the whole sentence is just kind of rubbish. If you're going to play off of Uncle Sam then there's really no reason to add stupid crap to it.
3. I. Basic Info Characters: Itarliht Syhrkoensyn, Mikael Dragonsbane (inactive), and Kikiziti Qiqiziti, III (NPC) Primary character: Itarliht Syhrkoensyn Linkshells: Night Blades, Soliloquy, Broken Chairs, and Intermission Primary RP linkshell: Night Blades II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): I enjoy a heavy RP environment when I'm with people who are in to that style of play, but I've very flexible. I will engage in light RP from time to time as I do find light RP preferable to no RP at all. I have no problem engaging in OOC conversation whether that be to clarify something in RP or simply a friendly chat. As you can see, I am in more than one OOC LS. This is a game to me, not a job. I find it's best not to take it too seriously. Views on RP combat and injuries: I love combat RP. I've engaged in combat RP with several people with Mikael. I enjoy a good fight and will go so far as to give my character a handicap in order to make things even when encountering a character who has inferior combat skills. While I have not had an opportunity to use Itarliht in combat with another player, Mikael has been known to go so far as to completely shed his armor in order to even the playing field. Any injuries given to a character should always be chosen by the player of that character, not by the player of the opposing character. I do not believe in injuries that will have a permanent and drastic effect on a character, like the loss of limbs, unless a player specifically asks for something of that nature to transpire. Combat should always enhance the RP experience and help the relationship of two characters grow (whether that be friendship or rivalry) rather than causing RP to come to a sudden halt. Again, this is a game. Combat should be fun. Views on IC romance: I'm fine with IC romance but I must feel comfortable with the other player and we must both agree that the romance will enhance the RP between our characters. Note that I said that the romance should enhance the RP and not become the RP. If I engage in an IC romance with someone and that becomes the only interaction that our characters have, I will burn out and things will not end well for the romance. I will not engage in male/male romance. Please understand that I have nothing against you if this is your thing, it simply isn't mine. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): This area is a little unclear for me as I consider anything that isn't romantic to be non-romantic... As far as family ties specifically, I very seldom create a character who has this option open. I've had absolutely no success at all in making characters who are related. Having things in common, knowing the same people, and things of that sort are fine. Itarliht has no living relatives who know him, and actually has no one who even has a chance of knowing him from his past. If you want to be involved in his story, and I welcome anyone to be a part of his story, then you will need to forge a relationship with him through RP. Views on lore: Lore is king. If you ever see me do something that goes against lore then you can safely assume that don't have an understanding that I'm doing so. Breaking lore breaks immersion for me. If breaking lore is your thing then we likely won't be RPing much together. I have nothing against those who break lore and encourage them to have their own fun; I just can't get into that kind of RP and choose not to be a part of it. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): /say is always IC. LS chat is up to the LS. If it's an IC LS then LS chat is IC. If it's an OOC LS then LS chat is OOC. Simple as that. I do tend to treat whispers as OOC unless it's agreed that the conversation is happening by proxy through a pearl or if an IC action is taken to specify that one character is whispering to another. Otherwise, whispers tend to be the best way to keep up OOC communication with other players during RP to ensure that things continue to go smoothly. III. Other Info Country: United States Timezone: Central (GMT -6) Contact info: If you need my contact info then feel free to ask for it. I won't openly post it on the forum but I won't bite your head off if you need to reach me, either. [glow=blue]~Special announcements can be found in the posts below~[/glow]
4. This is exactly what I mean. The older brother isn't forgotten, I'm just not certain about how he's remembered. The older brother would actually have friends who think he has been jumped through time with them (at least for a little while), but they are wrong. They have no way of knowing that he's been dead since before the battle. That part is easy. The younger brother has no identity. The older brother can't be a Warrior of Light, and any investigation will quickly reveal that fact. People remember every facet of him, so he isn't part of the time jump. And I think I've inadvertently answered my own question by trying to reason out this response. I've been wondering enough how the world as a whole would look at the older brother's place or absence in the battle that I've lost site of how the actual plot hook would work anyway. His presence at Carteneau is irrelevant to anyone who hasn't been skipped through time because they'll either know him by his deeds before the battle or they'll never have heard of him. Any actual Warriors of Light who are under the impression that he was present likely think that he's died since the younger brother hasn't tried to assume the dead brother's identity since returning. Investigating the older brother would eventually reveal that he has not, in fact, been skipped through time, making the time of his death a moot point. And any inconsistencies on whether or not he has participated in the battle could just make for interesting RP anyway. Thanks for your insight on this issue, everyone. I was just trying to make sure to fill in any holes in the story, but it turns out that a small hole could actually serve an in game purpose anyway.
5. I'm not worried about the concept being solid. Essentially, I'm trying to figure out how the dead brother can be used as a plot hook. Would people think he was at the battle since his name was being used or would people think he never showed up since his name was used by a man who was sent into the future? No one remembers the actual character because no one who knew him was at the battle, and those who were at the battle would have thought he was another man who is currently dead.
6. I agree with what would happen to the character. Like any other character, he would be obscured from memory. My biggest though was of his brother. Obviously, his brother would not be forgotten because he wasn't part of the time jump. What got me wondering was whether or not the dead brother would be associated with Carteneau. Obviously, the older brother wasn't there because he was already dead. So what I was curious about was if people would forget that the younger brother pretended to be the older brother or not. The younger brother is easy. I just didn't know if people would think that the older brother actually died at Carteneau since his real death wasn't common knowledge, or if they'd rightfully think that he never actually showed up for the battle. The whole magical forgetfulness thing does create some interesting issues.
7. I have a piece of my character background I'd like to bounce off everyone to get some insight. My character was at the Battle of Carteneau but no one there knew him. He was there posing as his older brother, wearing his armor and wielding his weapons. The older brother died shortly before Carteneau. Since people don't remember the identities of the Warriors of Light, my character would have faded from their memories. However, what about his brother? I know that fallen warriors would be remembered as the fog only applies to those who took place in the time jump. Since the older brother actually died before the battle but his name was being used by someone who was in the time jump, would he be remembered as being at the battle or would his friends and allies recognize him as someone who never made it to Carteneau?
8. I agree with Erik on the passage of time from an in-game perspective. The full spectrum of events shouldn't be determined as having transpired until the next patch. Otherwise, you have people all over the place. As for what year it is, remember that years only use counting numbers. If we're in the 7th Umbral Era then there is no year zero. 5 years from the Calamity is year 6. 6 years from the Calamity is year 7. When you refer to the time in history, you wouldn't refer to the 0th year of the 7th Umbral Era.
9. Good news. I don't know how I managed to do this, but I got my weekends mixed up. I will still be at my dad's on Sunday but I don't head to Birmingham until next weekend. Phase 2, here I come!
10. What I'm looking forward to is actually being able to transfer my PS3 characters over to the PS4 this time around. I don't have to start over with a brand new toon this way and can actually work on leveling a couple of classes. Maybe not very far, though. I haven't heard if the XP cap stops at 20 or not. Since you can transfer level 50 characters that would be odd, but they could have it set to where any quests over level 20 aren't available.
11. As a girl, I can say, I wouldn't mind waking up to that each day. As a guy, I can say I wouldn't mind waking up to that each day, either. Not... at... all. If I had the power to make fantasy reality then I'd be set.
12. That was hilarious, thank you. You're not on Early Access? If you've pre-ordered I think you're eligible for the phase 2 beta (which is today). Regardless, it looks damned pretty, is smooth as butter, and the controller implementation is really really good. That said you'll still need your bluetooth keyboard, LOL. I'm actively playing the game... sort of. But yes, I automatically get early access. I got the new beta downloaded and installed last night. Finished the latest update this morning before work. I played Phase 1 and was very pleased. Just sucks that we only have the weekend to play and then have to wait for the final release. Still, better than nothing.
13. Sooo... what, you'd be able to get married in a quickie ceremony by someone dressed as Final Fantsy's biggest pop star? Do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded.... are... are you paying attention? I'm... sorry... were you saying something? Tell me which way to shake my head so that she goes home with me.
14. Nah, that's more like a weekend at the lake than Las Vegas. There are some girls in bikinis but you can't find the kind of entertainment and/or trouble that is readily available in Ul'dah.
15. As an employee in the IT industry, I can tell you that this is not at all an uncommon reaction to mentioning Google to someone. Don't worry, not everyone thought you were showing attitude.
16. Who needs dresses when you have revealing swimwear?
17. Ul'dah. That's where all the best dancing girls are.
18. International TableTop Tay April 5 is a special day for two reasons in Geekdom. First, this is the day that first contact is made with alien life in the Star Trek universe. Second, this day has also been made into the official International TableTop day. DriveThruRPG is doing a free bundle just like last year, and also offering a smattering of other games at a heavily discounted rate in order to celebrate. DriveThruRPG.com This is a great way to legally expand your selection of tabletop games for free. I'm debating whether or not to pick up a copy of Numenera since it's only $9.99. No way I'd shell out $60.00 for a game I've never heard of before but for that price I may just be tempted to give it a go. Anywho, I hope you enjoy if you like to try out new games. Never forget to always have fun!
19. If you would have posted this two days ago then that would have been one of the most epic posts ever. We've gotten so far off topic that I'm not fully sure how to respond to the reality of your post. I suppose that we're far past the whole advice stage if you've already gotten a divorce or annulment. Welcome back and thanks for giving us resolution. Our lives are now complete.
20. My PC gets 13 fps inside the inn. The game is nigh unplayable for me. That's why I'm so excited about the PS4 release. Sure, it won't be quite as good as the game on a pimped out PC that can run with everything maxed out at 60+ fps, but it's WAY better than the PS3 version or how my current computer runs the game. Also, don't envy me too much. inFAMOUS Second Son was a pretty big letdown, and that's the coolest thing available right now.
21. I do like to take credit for why humanity can't have nice things. Having necromancy skills doesn't make you a Necron. ... I don't think that having necromancy skills turns you into an advanced mechanical body containing a soul that is so tortured and empty that even Dark Eldar will only eat it if they're afraid that they'll otherwise starve to death. Not to mention the fact that you'd be completely devoid of free will as you serve the C'tan (specifically the Void Dragon above all others). Unless you go by the new rules, in which case the Necrons just suck and might as well not even exist. Talk about destroying awesome lore.

23. Hey, old people go to bars all the time. They just go to old people bars.
24. I can't see the picture(s) and/or gif(s) that you posted but I have to compliment you on your necromancy skills nonetheless. Not that the thread was weeks or months old dead, but I thought that the whole Painted World thing put the nail in the coffin.
