  1. I'm not completely sure, as I haven't died in a while. But I think you're technically just Knocked Out and unable to recover without some fancy spell, Resurrection or Raise.
  2. Just messaged you As pointed out in the message, she just landed in Limsa Lominsa. She's a young Ishgardian, her flight lasting a week and ending today. Lost and confused, but not willing to show it. Linking up with other people from home would be logical.
  3. I would love to try and jump in as a straggler. When I first saw this post I was trying to find the direction of RP I wanted. Which of my three characters, or a new one I wanted. Have finally decided to completely rewrite my legacy character and Ishgard is what I fell on. So thought I would ask if it's too late, and if not what information or steps are required. Thank you ^^
  4. Oh, I do! Have an interest, I mean. I ended up server transferring my Miqo'te off and back on, for a name change. Then used my last fantasia to make her elezen. So Ysabelle Fleurette is live on Balmung at last. 50 bard and 43 dragoon. Handful of other stuff leveled too, but archer, dragoon, and gladiator are my current IC classes.
  5. Another issue where real time benefits over the game. It's pretty specific that there 24 bells in a sun (day) and 70 minutes in a sun. A week is 8 suns, a moon (month) is 32 suns, and a year 12 moons. Meaning in one real year, we'd be pretty old pretty quick.
  6. Ah.. Though I realized I may be missing a lot of quests I completed. I FATE grinded a lot, but still quested every now and then.. I'd have to investigate that more next time I'm on... Not sure I want to make a completely new character, either.
  7. I'm also willing to assist. OOC more flexible though. If OOC I have sch, whm, smn, blm, drg, and brd available. ICly... I can't fully commit. My character I would use is still a work in progress, but I'd like her to be aligned with the Maelstrom (Lieutenant achieved OOC)
  8. I'm interested, but my online times are a little odd, and I am considering getting into some form of end game. RP is most important to me but I want to see content and get some of the lovely end game gear (for looks, stats be damned.) Monday: After 2pm Tuesday/Tuesday: After 11am Thursday: 11am-3pm Friday: Unavailable Saturday: 5pm-10pm Sunday: 4pm-9 or 10pm, sometimes unavailable. My shift varies Monday and determines how much sleep I need Sunday night. If unavailable, Monday changes to 12pm instead of 2pm. I have an Ishgardian Wildwood Elezen, though she is secretive about that. I have not RPed her at all, and any additional backstory is great. I originally wanted a family of three older brothers, all missing now, along with her father. Mother still in Ishgard, and a fairly oppressive woman. That's fairly flexible though. She's a legacy character and is 50 bard (Archer ICly), 42 Dragoon (main), and I have a level 1 gladiator I was saving for a group of friends who never bought the game. Gladiator would be her learning to wield a sword and what I would commit. Unfortunately nothing else is a low level. So if you're interested, great! Looking forward to discussing the finer details. If not for any reason I understand one hundred percent. Just some additional information. I am inexperienced and shy with RP, but I love it. I have been RPing for three years or so, mmo's only. I understand and follow rules and etiquette completely, and open to any constructive criticism.
  9. So do we base time off the servers location? Overall avoiding time specifics seem ideal, but with miqo'tes day and night seems important to some degree. I would love more realism, like you said an endless desert you literally can get lost in. Even a longer night and day cycle. I would love a long RP excursion, making camps at night and traveling in the day. But I accept game play put before too much realism. I'll flow with the community, not against it. Just curious
  10. My friend and I were discussing day and night cycles, and it brought up a few questions I cannot find the answer to. 24 bells, one sun, is 70 minutes. Given that, the night and day cycle is obviously much less than Earth's time. So ICly, do we just completely ignore the game time unless it's convenient? And if anyone does adhere to the time in the game, how does the sleep cycle work? I understand time is probably a game play mechanic with less focus on the lore. But I argue perhaps the denizens Eoreza just don't sleep -every- night. It does feel shorter than what we have on Earth, and it is during a time of conflict. Sleep is decided by when you're tired, not the cycle of the sun. I know there won't be one answer about the matter, just curious on other people's thoughts. If it's already been discussed, please link me in the right direction. I checked first, but had no luck.
  11. Wonderful, Thank you! I was just concerned with "Fleurette", while the French word for flower is Fleur and adding -ette to the end to make it more Elezen, it seemed like a good idea, but obviously the french word for Flower doesn't translate in Eorzea. As I said, Elezen Lancer was my plan, and then when I saw Ishgard it just seemed to fit. It seems cliche, but I won't fret over that. My character can be original even if my history is not.
  12. I purchased this game at launch of ARR (and played legacy a little, but not enough to get the legacy stamp of approval.) and really didn't touch it after that first month. Well, I got another year subscription auto bill and figured I would try the game again! Anyway, the RP part of this: I was going to make an Elezen, and I was leaning towards Wildwood. I was torn between Pugilist and Lancer, and had finally settled on Lancer. Browsing the RP forums because I cannot create a new character, I stumbled upon Ishgardian posts! And as it turns out, that all kind of lined up with what I was making. So I have two questions about Ishgardians. 1) The Elezen population.. is that more Wildwood? It almost seems like they would put their city-state before their ancestry and just not care, but thought I'd ask. If all we got is speculation, that's fine. 2) Is there a specific naming convention Ishgardian Elezen follow, or is it just the standard Elezen naming conventions?
  13. Why is anyone comparing FFXIV's community to Tera's community, of all communities? Tera's RP community is the worst I've ever been in, and out of the games I've RP'd in (WoW, TOR, TSW, GW2, Aion, Tera) Tera is the -only- community I couldn't get into. The only game I started with on at launch was Guild Wars 2, and I still made made a place in all of those games but.. Tera. The entire universe's Roleplaying community in any game should never be compared to Tera. Never ever. Edit: Not a personal attack on you Crow, you're the third person I've seen do it on the forums, and I don't know how many times I saw it in Shout chat on Gilgamesh in Phase 2, first round beta.
  14. I don't know how many friends you have, so don't be insulted if this is too few! But why would you only want to write a book with ten characters, instead of a book of ten characters who have the chance to meet 20 more protagonist and 5 more antagonists? Why can't the two books combine and make one super book, just your chapter introduces them from your point of view, not there prior history's point of view? ^^
  15. That, I do not know. I did not play 1.0 for very long at all. I do know the limited time I played, I created a linkshell just for my friends, and join a friend's linkshell. I do not know how they effected the RPC. All I know is the only complaint I've understood, has been "Legacy linkshells won't accept ARR players, and be ignored (Unintentionally)." I can relate to that from other MMO's, really, but this game seems brand new to me this time around (If that makes sense ) and that everyone on these forums have seemed helpful, nice, and actually quite excited for an increased Roleplay community. And small Edit: It's important to put out that the FFXIV 1.0 was considered really bad. So only true fans or people who found some masochist pleasure from playing were left. That doesn't leave a very large population. So I'd imagine the RPC is very eager for this "revival" and increase of RP player base.
  16. That's the thing. It doesn't seem to be a big issue. One person has made it sound like it will be, and everyone responding to it has made it sound bigger than it really is. And how would everyone leaving the server help? It forces Legacy players to start over, and keeps any loyal people to the alleged linkshells that don't necessarily agree, but have friends there and would like to stay, from getting to RP with the rest of the community. But maybe I'm just selfish wanting all the RPers together So I have a larger community to be with. I still maintain that people should give a Balmung a shot, before declaring it a "cool kids" clique club of 1.0 RPers vs ARR RPers. Since I have seen no evidence that seems to be the case. The one linkshell that has been mentioned, was last edited in -April-. And I'd like to point out the last line of that recruitment message. Crystalline There is twenty-three linkshell posts (Unless I miss counted) and only one says they are not accepting new members. And the one, as I quoted above, is eager to RP with the greater RP community (Or most of the members).

    Hello!

Still working on a good name. But I was wondering. I choose "Zhiveri" as a last name. Acceptable for Miqo'te? :3 The auto name generator I did not find useful heh

    Hello!

Thank you! I can't wait to be in the game with everyone :3 I also will not play any more Betas until nothing will be wiped. I did phase 1 beta to see the combat changes, and phase 3 originally to see what race I was going to be for sure. Sadly I was so blown away by Ul'dah, the only city I hated in 1.0, I leveled up to 15 around it. But I will be starting arcanist or marauder if for some reason arcanist doesn't start there like I keep hearing it will. Either way! Starting in Limsa Lomjnsa by any means necessary.
  19. I normally prefer elves in most games, they have an elegant grace to them. But Elezen here look awkward to me. I've tried to like them, but I just can't. Mind you, as a personal race I would play, I love other people playing them. I choose Keeper of the Moon Miqo'te for a few reasons. The only other race that appeals to me is Lalafell and I'm not sure I could RP one appropriately. I played a mithra in FFXI so nostalgia is another reason. Keeper in particular because they are a matriarchal group. Being a woman naturally makes me lean towards it. Ultimately in other games I choose race by Elegance, Grace, and beauty first. Then the adorable races second. GW2 is the only game I played Human, but I loved their lore more than any other race

    Hello!

As the title says, hi. I just recently learned people actually roleplayed in FFXIV, and decided to join in. I feel it unnecessary to state but I'm beyond ecstatic about FFXIV, more so that I know there is a RPC. A little about myself, I was born and raised in Florida and absolutely love everything about beaches, especially surfing :3. I travelled the US a bit after graduation and now I am an Air Traffic Controller, but alas away from any beaches. Working on getting back but I took the first position I was offered My first MMO, and actually second video game ever playing, was FFXI, which I played for about six years. I was a White Mage for most of that, though towards the last two years or so I fell in love with Scholar. I leveled Samurai just for Maat, and ended up playing Bard for my last six months. It was by far my favorite job, but I use to avoid it because of the silly AF. I did level every job up to WoTG to at least 40 except BST, BLU, and PUP. A handful of those jobs to 58-60 just for the AF. There is an overlap period where I couldn't dedicate time to FFXI, and my boyfriend at the time wanted me to play WoW. Never liked it so always went back to FFXI on breaks from school, dance, and work. All this during high school, still no clue about RP. About three years ago, I had quit ffxi for good and waited for FFXIV 1.0. Playing WoW again, I was introduced to RP. Since then I had been drifting between TOR, GW2, Tera, Aion, and TSW trying to find a fun game I liked with an active RP community. I played launch of FFXIV 1.0, quit within two weeks in disgust. Came back to it last August or October before it was taken offline, it was playable but not fun. FFXIV:ARR is what I imagined 1.0 to be. A beautiful combination of the FFXI world I fell in love with all those years ago with a modern day user friendliness that FFXI never offered. I'm in love with the game now, and I know it's what I was waiting for! It's just a matter of if new content is kept actively coming forth and end game is as fun as it felt to me in FFXI. I'm excited beyond comprehensive words (more like unintelligible squeals of delight) to have the chance to RP in this game in Balmung. I have a 50 Black Mage Lalafell, who I won't roleplay with or really even actively play. She just has a lot of items that I hope are still on her and tradable. I will be starting a Keeper of the Moon Miqo'te, with an IC older brother. I'd like a twin sister but I may just end up with a twin brother. Scholar and Monk are the two jobs I'm very interested in. Sorry for the long post! I'm on break at work and finished my book, so I didn't have anything better to do :3 The odd text is because I write all this out on Notes standard App, on my iPhone, proof read and copy and paste. Using forums on a phone can be tedious ._.
  21. I absolutely love incorporating leveling up with RP. But they have level sync so higher levels can equally participate. I think it seems like most people who don't want to start on the legacy server sound like they prefer the small clique groups that they are afraid of, creating the very same problem they describe. Personally, while I love a story driven group I also equally love just randomly meeting up with people to share stories or start a new side adventure up. I know some of the "best" rp comes from a guild and linkshell. But some of my favorite rp is with new people and making friends.
  22. I still do not understand the logic behind the ARR players being intimidated, uncomfortable, or whatever other reasons, with starting with the 1.0/Community. If all Roleplayers are on one realm, you still have each other, but you also have the original community to join in with. Of course, these forums will support a second RP World. While I do not understand the reasoning behind not wanting to bring all of the new players together with all the old players in one world, it is a choice people have, and I respect it. I wish everyone who chooses to start somewhere else the best of luck. I just hope that people will try out Balmung, and give the community a chance to welcome them, instead of presuming them all as negligent of new players. ^^ I know I am. As I've said, I'm a 1.0 player, but I played so little (I'd say under a month), and didn't understand what Roleplaying was back then. FFXIV:ARR feels like a brand new game, and this community in particular I had no contact with. I played on Sargatanas.
  23. And two posts cleanly and concisely explain what my terrible rants could not Thank you. I'm going into the RP community optimistic, I hope others new to FFXVI, RP, or both can too!
  24. Every linkshell on the server isn't going to turn down a player because they are new. I wouldn't even think a single linkshell would. And I know new linkshells will start up, the fact you can have several linkshells (7-8? I don't remember for sure) I'm willing to bet you will easily have a few. One dedicated to RP, one to end game, one for leveling or looking for group. I know I plan to start my own linkshell for a few of my friends and then seek an RP ls. Again, ultimately you need to do what you feel is best. But it seems you have a very bleak worst case scenerio outlook on all 1.0 player
  25. I absolutely agree. FFXIV will not have a large community of RPers that I know of. I would rather have everyone together, because I know I want to RP with 1.0 and ARR players. Lore is rather simple in this game, so it's not hard to learn really. It's not too complicated from what I've seen. I know elitists exist, but as long as you are willing to learn on your mistakes, you shouldn't let them bother you. Elitists seem so few and far between. It's ultimately up to the player, and while I understand the thought of going to a new server, I beg the people who want to start somewhere else not to. Just start a fresh community with the old community and everyone should do their best to make them mesh. Roleplayers should stick together.
