  1. I want to also echo the dancer. That would just be too good. I always found it to be absurd, but that never stopped me from using it. :moogle:
  2. I love so much of what is in this game, but I have to echo the thief sentiments. It's an original. From proto-ninja to treasure hunter to crazy megacephaly-suffering monkey boy, thieves have been some of the most beloved characters in the series. Mug :love: The second they add in a thief, I'm swapping. Hands down. On another note, I'd like to see something of an engineer/item user show up. Someone with an auto-crossbow that tosses grenades. The Edgars and Rikkus of the series who always don't quite fall into their own standard job. I think that would be a wonderful addition, particularly considering there is an entire empire that uses machina/magitek. I'm a VI enthusiast. I can't help it.

  7. Oooooo I am a fan of... treasure hunting. I was wondering what was going on in this regard. I can't help but want characters to be into stealing. The more I plan characters, the more they end up being thieves or pirates... Anyway, hopefully I can work with all of you in the future

  9. I'm still in Guild Wars 2 for some reason. I sorta recently finished Chrono Trigger for the jillionth wonderful time, and I throw down some Megaman once in a while, but I really just keep playing GW2.

  12. I used the lovely thread Aysun linked and figured that 71 was about 5'5" for a male Miqo'te (assuming I was paying attention and mathed correctly), which sounds like a good height to me. It's what I'm still planning on anyway. For now.

  14. In trying to work out my character I ran through a number of ideas I tried to make work. In the end, I had a brief flash of a concept I liked: A Miqo'te lounges in the seat of a massive, magic-powered walker as it strides across an open plain. Napping contentedly in the aft region above the engine is a small blue rabbit-like creature that sparkles in the sun. Our hero shakes his mane of brown hair to settle out of his eyes, making it easier to read the tome that is propped in his lap. Scattered in the foot space of the war machine are various metal components and vials of carefully labeled substances. Organized chaos is clearly rules the steel ship sailing through the grassy sea. Scratchy roars erupt from leathery throats as a trio of lizard men seek to drown the boat's occupants in their own blood. Our hero looks up, plays with an earring. He snaps his fingers and the arcane bunny leaps lightly and quickly to the ground, twin tails bristling. The creature bounds at the lizard men, blasting off of them each in turn like a living ball of rubber. Their momentum through the sea halts, attention confused between furry avatar and lazy magician. Our languorous hero rises from his recline. Lightly clawed hands take quill to parchment, the book drinking ink like a drowning man. An intricate shape appears, then is gone. The lizards feel overwhelmed, suddenly, by sickness. Strength ebbs rapidly. The two-tailed familiar rejoins the fray, crushing one's chest. The corruption continues on, like the rot of death accelerated. Fear creeps into the lizard men, and they frantically charge at their original target, hoping to board. Two more fast shapes. The aether drinks deeply the black liquid. The book's page remains pristine. The lizards each come ablaze. Rotting poison and cleansing fire eat at them in tandem. They never make it to the walker. The occupants are lounging on their way before they finally succumb. What I don't know is what to do during beta phase 4 when Arcanist apparently won't be in yet. One very good suggestion I got was to be studying for it, but it now leaves the question of where to start. I'm thinking he'd be kinda smart, kinda smug, a little rogueish in his interactions. Has an interest in learning about the cultures of the world and their magics and technology. I'm thinking he'll also work on blacksmithing and alchemy as natural extensions. Where to start before that though... I'm noooot sure. I see him as being a mix of the two Miqo'te races, and spent a lot of time moving between the his parents' tribes and learning their ways - his father teaching him more physical things and his mother teaching him more spiritual things, and giving him lots of time to read on the journeys between the two. I think his background with lots of travel, and the mix of cultures and foci would lend to a pugilist upbringing mixing aether control and physical stamina. My other thought was thaumaturgist, but it doesn't feel quite right to me. What do you all think?

  17. Getting stronger muscles wouldn't actually make him slower with a dagger. Stronger muscles usually makes you faster. If you learn to whip around something twice as big at speed, grabbing something light is usually much easier! I think the point to be made is that different weapons are generally used differently, and the styles don't overlap as much. That isn't to say you gain nothing. Learning to use an axe proficiently is beneficial when fighting against other people who are using an axe. Knowing how a weapon works can help you fend against it. You could always just knife fight against axemen and learn that way, but situations for formal instruction are usually helpful! As to specialization, this game is unique in that each weapon is a "class", and each class is a specialist. Other games have classes that are a kind of warrior, and that warrior has a variety of proficient weapons to specialize in or not. Depending on a character's background, it might make more or less sense to specialize. Someone who had a single weapon on the road or grew up in a very specific school or tradition might be more inclined to use a single weapon, or your average person who picks one up. Someone who is in the military is probably more likely to pick up multiple weapons as part of training. If you ever lose your weapon on the field, knowing how to use whatever you can pick up is handy. So I think both arguments are valid - they are just different concerns to different types of characters, and doing either one makes as much sense as the other. Except the muscle thing. I think having stronger muscles makes you stronger at physical things. Flexibility might be different if you don't stretch enough while working out... Sorry to butt in. I just like the discussion.
  18. Just finally read through this and I really like it. It's simple, but it has the appropriate depth of backstory and character I would expect, and it gives personality and direction of interest. I think this is going to be a wonderful jumping off point toward adventure! Bravo!

  20. Okay everyone, I couldn't find an answer to this easily while searching this site or the internet at large. It's a question that is going to be imperative to my happiness in this game. Do we know how to acquire a magitek armor mount? I refuse to accept :chocobo: when I could be in a magically-powered engine of destruction. On a similar note, there should be a magitek armor smiley as counterpoint to :chocobo:.
  21. Didn't samurai learn the sword, spear, and bow? Probably also hand to hand? It see proficiency in most weapons as not a big deal. Not everyone is going to be a master of their weapon, and claiming mastery of everything is silly, yes. Claiming to be able to fight competently with multiple weapons sounds fine. I think Jobs, where the fighting schools blend less and you see master-level techniques, is where RP choices probably need to be made. That's my 2 gil.
  22. Anybody remember that old Cartoon Network commercial with the League of Evil where Brainiac stands up and yells "All I want is pants! A decent pair of pants!" and the other villains just look thoughtful and chime in that they want pants too? Pants 8-)
  23. Okay, I have a real question for once. Considering this is just a decision for the people who are actually online, and considering there is no especial incentive to end up somewhere except that we feel like since nothing is permanent as yet, and also considering if an official RP server is added this whole thing is moot... can't we just talk to those guys, agree on a server generally, and call it good? I'm just saying, as long as everyone we can reach online is willing to just say "sure, why not" and join up for the sake of RP, aren't we set? I had a character on Malboro the first weekend. I swapped to Gilgamesh because you guys had an event there this last weekend. Is this about something other than us all staying together? Cuz as cool as being on Gilgamesh sounds, I wanna hang with fun people I can RP with. I'm not trying to trivialize anything or point fingers, I'm honestly confused that this is a big issue that can't be resolved with multi-party discussion between everyone on the internets. Sorry if I just haven't paid enough attention. I'm honestly trying to understand why this whole topic has been so serious.
