  1. I want more hair styles which mostly consist of existing hairstyles combined in various ways. I want more tribal stuff for the Elezen, feral stuff for the Miqo'te... Stuff that can make the both of them look wilder, woodlandsy and whatnot. Maybe some feathers tied into their braids or something.
  2. 1. What do you think is a main character? As others have said.. To me, it's just what it sounds like. The character you're on mostly. The one you gear up, level to 50 first, get all your achievements on, RP most on.. The character you enjoy most. 2. What do you think makes a character an alternate character? I'm pretty straightforward, pretty blunt. An alternate character is one that is not your main. you still level and gear them, but only in short stints (A few days of work to a week or two, whereas a main is months of work at a time). 3. Do people have a responsibility to make certain "mains pair with mains" if you sense an interesting relationship (friends/rivals/lovers/enemies/long-lost relatives) forming or is it okay that someone's just not going to be around at random or for long periods of time? Depending on the part they want to play in your storyline. If I'm looking for someone to play my brother, I don't want someone to come along and offer an alt. I actually hate RPing with alts, because they're just.. Dead connections. I feel like we both, me and the other player, deserve more of a commitment to a good story than an alt gives. 4. Have you ever discovered that your main was paired off in one of those situations with someone's alt? They just didn't play them at all or played other characters? Did it stall out your story? What did you do? I had a friend who had.. 8 or 9 characters in ToR, spread across two or three accounts. She had them all paired up with various characters for RP.. One with me, others with other characters of our little friends group.. And while I never felt cheated, I know the others did because she was spending most of her time on her main - The one she'd paired with me. This is also why I won't make and RP on alts. I feel like my main will suffer, if I try to dedicate any amount of RP time to an alt. Therefor, if I make a new character, it becomes my main and my own main gets pushed to the back burner. I don't do this if the old main is in any important storylines, without clearing it and arranging something first. When it's happened to me, it's easy enough to come up with an IC reason why you broke up with the absent alt, or.. Whatever. 5. What's the biggest stereotype you think of when you think of people who only have one main character? Me. I'm that guy with one character to speak of. In WoW, I had.. Three. My very first character ever, that was stuck at level 85.. My next character, that had made 85 and was semi geared for the level but never touched once my third character was made, my main. He was th ebest geared, and the only one I had any interest on doing things with.. For all intents and purposes, the other two characters didn't exist. 6. What's the biggest stereotype you think of when you think of people who suffer alt-itis and swap characters often? Maybe I'm not sure what you mean by stereotype. I dunno. But when I see people with a dozen alts, I just think.. Inability to commit, or to decide on what they want. The only reason to have so many characters, is because you can't do what you want with one of them. 7. Which are you? A single or two main characters? 5 main characters? A bunch of alts? A single main, as I've touched on throughout. My main may change, but it'll always be one character. I'll even log into my main and idle, when I could be playing an alt, just because I don't want to miss something that might come up for said main. 8. How did you usually break up your time between your main characters? Play on demand? Always on one, demand for the other? One with one group and when they all sign off switch to the other? When I had multiple characters, the other two would be logged on per demand, never for more than ten minutes. Usually to craft something. Since XIV has all the classes in one.. I'll have one character, for the foreseeable future.
  3. Kaln is now a Maleqo'te! Yay. Kitty. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v74/Beaker276/1_zps226b532e.png Kaln's headshot. Good view of his eyes, face paint.. The thicker eyebrows and such. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v74/Beaker276/2_zps6ec7e57c.png And a little more overview of him. Sideshot of the hairstyle.. Shows the darker skintone. Clothing is pretty accurate to what he'd really wear, too. If you need other shots, let me know!
  4. I think that's where the differing terminology comes in. A slight alteration would make it.. Well, what the message up top says now. Just.. Balmung and Gilgamesh. Two options. At that point, there would be no difference between the two so whoever's deciding would basically have nothing to hinder them from going to one or the other. I think, then, the only way would be to flip a coin, randomly pick one, make a toon on both servers and try them out, or base it off something like.. "Well, this servers newer so I'll go there." Or "That servers older, I'll go there." Either way. Doesn't matter, any differences would be null and void. As it stands though, the message up top does look good. Yay, go message!
  5. OP, something you might look at doing, would be a little bit better of a layout for the thread to answer questions and such. For example.. Keep the title what you have, or make something similar, or whatever. But then have your first post detail all the ins and outs of Gilgamesh, as Aysun did for Balmung. She went through and detailed, very accurately and neutrally, the ins and outs of Balmung. Now, I don't know what could be said about Gil to equate to a post of that style, but.. Still. It's an idea. Then, once you get your first post made - Offer a link to Aysun's thread. Say, if you have a question about Gilgamesh, ask it in your thread. If it's about Balmung, ask it in Aysun's thread. That way, it keeps the Gilgamesh and Balmung folks seperate, and there's less chance of server-wars breaking out in the thread.
  6. Hrrm, very very interesting. Thank you. So that's one for summoner! There are so many classes o__o Alright, so I'll go over some of the basics, and then a quick touch on the entire system that -might- just make it easier for ya. First off, jobs and classes. Classes are the basics. Everyone starts off with a class. Pugilist, gladiator, conjurer, marauder, lancer, archer, Thaumaturge, arcanist, and the various crafting/gathering classes. Jobs are.. Well, I'm hoping you're familiar with D&D terms. Jobs are 'prestige' classes. Like.. The Arcane ARcher from D&D 2.5 is a prestige class for a Ranger. Well, the paladin, monk, warrior, Dragoon, bard, white/black mages, summoner and scholar are all prestige classes of various basic classes. So, for example.. We'll just do ranged, since that's what you're interested in. An Archer will become a bard, a Lancer becomes a Dragoon (Added in because you mentioned it), a Thaumaturge becomes a black mage, a conjurer becomes a white mage, an Arcanist becomes a Summoner or a Scholar. Now, there's a little more to it than just leveling X class to level 30.. They all also require a secondary class to level 15. So, if you wanted to be a Black Mage, because they're badass and throw big fireballs around and blow crap up, you'd have to have a level 30 Thaumaturge and a level 15 Pugilist. A summoner, which you mentioned liking, requires a level 30 Arcanist, and.. -possibly- a level 15 Thaumaturge. Summoners will be new, starting in beta phase 4/open beta, so all we know is what SE wants us to know. Lastly, and this is hinted at through my entire post... You don't have to make a new character for each class. One character can be -every- class. All you do is equip a different weapon, and it switches your class to the proper one. Want to be a Thaumaturge? Cool, equip a scepter thing. Want to be a Pugilist? Awesome, equip some fist weapons. So, you can literally try every class and only have one character doing it. Lastly, since you have to do a base class first, I'd look at Thaumaturge or Arcanist. Conjurer's are healers, I believe.
  7. From what I understand, 1.0 characters will be allowed a recustomization at the time of launch. I've been wondering myself, so asked a friend an that's what he said.. Though, I'm sure someone else will know for sure and have links to back it up. Correct me, please! I'd love to remake 1.0 Kaln in P4.
  8. I purposefully said I wasn't speaking for the community, on this. Just myself. And, that mainly ties back to something I posted in another thread.. OR this one. I forget. Something about me being an ol', jaded RPer. Doesn't change the fact that I'd welcome anyone who RP's, or doesn't interfere with RPers.
  9. Man. My broccoli is SO awesome. It has whatever want on it. Magic, wish-granting broccoli.
  10. Don't read this as an attempt to convince Gil players to come to Balmung. It's not, I'm done trying to convince Gil players of that. Instead, consider this a post of enlightenment. No matter how often it's been said, no matter how much the Balmung players make it known and act on it, there is this.. -BELIEF-, this.. Idea, this.. Misconception. Selsix put it in the best way. She described the Balmung server as a bus that may or may not stop to pick her up. You know what that says to me? That she sees us a server she can't fit in to. That we're full, that we don't want to pick her up and welcome her in. WTF have we been saying? The -exact opposite- of that. We want to pick her up. All the RPers. Everywhere. We want to pick them all up, and welcome them in. That's WHY this argument is here.. I, and I'm sure it's a deeprooted thing for other Balmung players that continue the debate, feel like some of the Gil players are calling us a lot of things we're not. Closeminded, unwelcoming, elitist, being some of those. I mean.. We'd welcome the RPers from the Reddit community. They RP? Cool! We'd love to have them. Would we welcome to Reddit community as a whole? Probably not, no.. Well, I can't speak for the whole on that one. I wouldn't particularly like the entire reddit community coming over, but I'd love to see the RPers coming. I think they should have the option, I think it should be made known they have options - Niether of which is any less welcoming. I mean.. I don't know how many times we have to say it. We are, literally, laying at non-Balmung players feets, saying "Hey, how much more welcoming can we be?" I could go back into how the 50's and such shouldn't affect anyones game, but.. That's a fact that should be known by now too. The fact that content will make high-levels the same level as the low-levels to do it. The fact that a lot of the high levels will be rerolling low level alts to play the content, so the high levels existence doesn't even really matter untill others get up there as well. The fact that it'll be a week or two before there are 50's on every server out there. -sigh-
  11. I'm not sure where this came from. No one is trying to convince anyone that doesn't want to play on a Legacy server, to play on a LEgacy server. People are just discussing, with the OP, his options. He clearly stated he has no issues with the Legacy server, and he has no issues with the non-legacy server. Nothing causing him to favor one over the other, either. So people are just offering various points of view. I'm actually very proud of the Gilgamesh/Balmung community, so far, in regards to this particular thread. When I read the OP, I was first thinking there's only one way this thread will go - That it would devolve, and do so quickly. But, so far, it's been civil and people are directing their posts to the OP, and not at eachother. With that in mind, I'll go ahead and offer my two cents. I think the OP has everything he needs to decide, already posted in that first post. I mean... A server choice boils down to what -YOU- want. Not what the rest of us want. You've stated, very well I might add, the pros and cons of both servers.. You seem pretty aware of what you're in for either way. Suck it up and decide, or roll on both and decide in a week. ^.^ I don't know if you're looking for someone to make a decision for you, but there's not a whole lot of convincing to do here. Just a lot of repeating the same points over and over, in various wordings. People'll explain why they made a decision, but.. We're not you, and therefor our reasons and decisions aren't, and shouldn't be yours. With that in mind, and the other bits out of mind now.. I'd vote for the 'Roll on both and see what makes you feel fuzzier inside'. OR whatever feeling you equate to good. Lastly.. None of this should come as an attack/poke/jibe/negative/whatever to anyone. Just a jaded ol' RPer doing jaded ol' RPer things, so take it with a grain of salt.
  12. I has new pictures of Kaln, toooooo. He's no longer going to be an Elezen. I played in the generator more. And more, and more and more.. And he's now a Maleqo'te, and I like the look of him much better for his personality.
  13. Aw, darn, someone beat me to offering the mentor thread. I'm a mentor! ^.~ And.. Uh... Cookies, cake, pie.. all the good stuffs been offered. Broccoli?
  14. ...I love the first name, cause it's got SO much going on. 8/10. The second one doesn't sound like a Sea Wolf name to me, but it's stil nice. We'll go 5/10. Though, I'm not sure on their naming conventions. Now, I have a name-question, since I've already been rated. Been thinking Kaln might not be an Elezen, because I don't like how they stand. Kaln might just be a Miqo'te.. So, I've been trying to come up with a last name for Kaln. Now, Kaln is, for lack of a better term, a bastard. He was born outside of the tribe, raised out in the middle of Thanalan untill.. Like, somewhere between 7-10. He, as a character, isn't even sure how old he is because it was never tracked when he was younger. He makes a rough estimate. So, anyways. I need a last name for Kaln. I know the conventions say he should be Kaln Tia.. But is there anyway I can get away from that? I don't like the way it sounds. So, someone lend me a hand here. Maybe a nickname for him.. Something based on the fact that he, for all intents and purposes, raised himself.. Or maybe on his penchant for enjoying the simple act of fighting. If someone's willing to brainstorm with me and throw words at me untill I say "OOooo, that one!" toss me a PM? I don't want to spam up the thread TO much. >.>
  15. Haven't seen anything from Abai in a good minute or two. You ok over there, Abai? Or did you draw so much you entered some form of.. Drawing..stasis...coma thing?
  16. This. It's what many of us on Balmung have been saying. As I said in another thread, even those of the Legacy players with high level characters will have to do the low level content, just to unlock things like dungeons. Legacy will have to 'trail blaze' just like any other server.. Most of them will be running content with low level/unleveled alts/jobs, because it's an entirely new game from 1.0. As an RPer, storyline is key and we'll want to experience that. Never did understand the stigma against the LEgacy servers.
  17. Just one more bit to say, as an.. Alternative to this. People seem to have some great misconception about the Legacy players. Yes, they are legacy players at 50. No, many of us do NOT have a 50 in every single job. Yes, this is a -brand new- game. 2.0 has an entirely new story line to what 1.0 was. Guess what that means? All those legacy players, with the 50's... And all those legacy players with the 10's, and 20's, and 30's, and everything in between, I can -garuntee- will be redoing all the content. If I had a 50 (which I don't, and I'm a legacy player), I'd pick a job that I had at level 1, and I'd start over so I can experience all the new content. That's what I'm doing with my level 15 legacy character. Hell, Legacy players -HAVE- to redo the main storyline quests, in order to get the dungeons and such unlocked. You seem to think Legacy servers means no trailblazing... But it's going to be just as much a trailblazing for us, as it is for you. We're just as new to this as you are.. And level matters none, seeing as how there are the buddy systems to bring the 50's down to the lower levels for questing. And the fact that the 50's will be rolling low level alts and such to do the content. Again, all I'm saying is the LEgacy servers should be given another consideration. No one person in this forum, or any other, speaks for an entire community. The community should be given the chance to consider, not choose from a set of servers dictated by an assumption that no one will want anything else. My piece is done. I'll bow out of the conversation, seeing as it's quickly turning into an argument and no longer a discussion/debate.
  18. And in doing so, in asking if people wish to go to another server.. All the Balmung players are doing, is asking those that went to Gilgamesh if they want to reconsider. It stands to reason that every server will have it's trolls, its '4chan' and 'reddit' communities. Not in name maybe, but every server will have those types of people. So all we're doing, is asking the Gilgamesh people to consider it again. I mean.. Look at this way. Waaaay back when Gilgamesh was decided, when it was voted on, people -KNEW- back then that Reddit had made Gilgamesh it's unofficial server. People -KNEW- back then, that 4chan had a fair amount of people rollng that way, too. There were several people posting it through the original poll thread, and several people had brought it up in various other threads. But now, a week or two before P4, someone decides to voice a concern about this? I think it was, back then. I'm pretty sure people either ignored it, or weren't concerned with it back then. So, if that has changed.. If people are now concerned about that, maybe people will have a change of heart and consider joining the communities. That's all we're asking, too. Consider it, along with whatever other server choices.
  19. The Balmung RP community is small as-is, and we're bleeding people here. Now I know some people on Gilgamesh see this as a good thing because they're catching the people we're losing. I'm going to go ahead and say what Aysun didn't, though she alluded to by the quote. Itallicized for emphasis, too. Balmung players do -not- see this as a good thing. We do not want the Gilgamesh(Or whatever server) community to fail. If people don't want to play on Balmung, if they want to be on another server as a community, us on Balmung, generally speaking, want them to do well. In no way is the 'bleeding of players' a good thing, rather it be from us who're catching the lost ones, or the Gil-community who is losing them. I think, all the Balmung players are saying is that all of the issues with the Gil server won't be an issue on Balmung, and that the Balmung players have always, and will always, welcome those from the other servers with open arms. Strength in numbers, as others have said. A community united, is a community strong.. A community split, is not. This isn't some sort of.. Competition though. Balmung isn't trying to compete with the other servers to get more RPers.. Five or five hundred, we'll be on Balmung regardless. Now, I'm not attempting to derail the conversation further - Though it may be seen as that. All I'm attempting to do is to stop the idea that Balmung has some sort of dislike towards those not playing on its server. No more perpetuation of that concept. Edit: Ha. Just noted Aysun's alteration of words. Sly woman, you. My point still stands.
  20. Hey! I envy you and your having worked at Bioware. That musta been pretty awesome. I hate that NCSoft and Arenanet killed Tabula Rasa - One of my favorite MMO's to date. Welcome to the RPC.. You'll find a lot of people here, very much willing to help pull you out of your shell if you're willing to put the first foot forward ^.^ I think I've posted more on this forum in the past few months then I have in.. 10 years on an other forum. >.> Enjoy your stay, and see you on Balmung!
  21. So, I'm of a similar mind. I can't understand the concept behind wishing to be on a non-legacy server, especially considering that, as others have said, Gilgamesh (Or whatever server) will be in a similar state as Balmung, within a few months. So then we have two RP servers in a similar state of existence.. Rather than one, where everyone can interact. Now, I know the reasons people give - Some people don't want to join a server with an already established RP community. They want to develop that community themselves. They want to be someplace where there aren't established storylines, and characters, etc. Other people want the experience of 'figuring out the game', rather then having people who already have figured out whatever it is those people are talking about. (One of the points I understand least, since they added -a lot- of content for ARR.. Even legacy people are, basically, new to the game.) Some people have said they don't like the idea of joinign a server with high levels already in existence. They think it'll make finding groups for dungeons harder, and other such things because people are already past them. Again, with it being 2.0, there's a lot of new content and I know -most- of the legacy characters are going to be running through all the content from scratch anyways, to experience it all. Knowing what people are saying, I don't understand where the feelings are coming from. I'm not saying they're -wrong-, I'm just saying it confuses me. But, ah well. On to the topic at hand. As far as griefing goes, it shouldn't matter if the RPers do what RPers are supposed to do in the face of griefing. Two options that are acceptable. 1. Go with the flow. Respond to the griefers in an IC method. I, personally, don't like this method. Feed the troll,a dn the troll will stay. 2. Ignore the griefers. If they don't get the attention they want, they will eventually go away. I've seen many events ruined by griefers, because people are unable to ignore them. If that one little hurdle can be overcome, then.. Again. Feed the troll, the troll will stay. Don't feed it, it will go find food somewhere else.
  22. Mm. RP history. I'm 24. I'll be 25 at the end of the year... I've been RPing online since I was 10 or so. I remember, back in those days, playing through various AOL chatrooms.. A lot of sitting and watching. I used to be a terrible typer - I was the kid that typed with letters instead of words, numbers instead of spelling them out. I had no caps, no punctuation.. And I thought it was ok. Then I tried to join a World of Darkness: Werewolf the Apocalypse mud. They had -strict- typing rules, so I had to learn. I sat in a lobby of that mud talking to people, watching people.. And eventually I got to the point that I used caps as a habit, punctuation became second nature. It's not that I didn't know how to use it, it's just that I didn't know why I should. Then I'd go back to the AOL chatrooms and find -so much- more RP. I remember telling people my age throughout my early teens. People I'd RPed with for months, for a year, for more.. Telling them I was 12, 15, whatever age at the time.. And I remember losing a lot of friends over it. A lot of adults weren't ok with RPing with a child in the late 90's, early 2000's. I remember it pissed me off, and frustrated me to no end. I mean.. I could hold my own in a battle of wits, or in quality of RP as it were, with all of these adults.. And even though I was, atleast I felt I was, an adult mentally.. They would leave, uncomfortable with RPing with a child in body, if not in mind. So I stopped telling people my age, untill I was over 18. Even then, I kept it guarded.. Had a few people get uncomfortable because I was the same age as their children. And, well. Long story short, many muds, MMOs, and tabletops later.. Here I am. 24 years old, and at a point I like to think others consider a 'decent typist and RPer' at the least.
  23. I think the better question is can YOU? ^.~ The only possible roadblock I can see, is time. Being able to decide.. "Do I want to grind for the next hour, or do I want to grind for thirty minutes and maybe look for some RP? Or do I want to grind untill I find RP? Or do I want to run in circles in the middle of a populated city because I have nothing better to do with my day?" Those are the questions I generally ask myself. ....I run in circles a lot.
  24. IMO, this should all be taken with a grain of salt. I know I didn't participate in the survey, and with the numbers being -so- small compared to what the 'real' numbers will be... Like, the population numbers. 308 people said they'll be playing on Balmung, and 1040 said they'll be playing on Gilgamesh. That screams inaccurate data to me, because the survey has a large outlier in its statistics, and it seems like it would skew the data some. But, meh. That's just me and what little I can remember from a stats class last semester.. I'll still take it with a grain of salt.
  25. A little over nine thousand. Hmmmm. I've never tracked it, but I'm curious what my FPS was, then. I pulled a 9500 on the benchmark. Ah well. Another test to add to the list of things I want to test but, probably, never will.
