Time to see non-dragoon Ishgardian fighters?

Recommended Posts

Here!

So, that armour is going in Heavensward, and it's Aymeric's set along with his deputy. Perhaps we'll see some Ishgardian knights (GLD class) who aren't dragoons now?

I mean, damn...even I want that...but my RP demands I cannot, alas!

I was wondering about that. Every other piece of gear we can preview is for DRG, so are DRGs going to look like knights? It would be a little weird to just throw in one random PLD preview while the rest are DRG.

Dragoons ARE knights.

I've had an Ishgardian Wildwood for a while who isn't a Dragoon and never will be. His backstory is that he grew up in a mercenary camp, where the kind of training to make a Dragoon would be in short supply. Instead, he's just good with swords/daggers due to a lifelong association with them.

He also rigs up stills whenever he lives someplace for longer than a week a brews horrifying alcoholic concoctions, but tha't just part of his 'charm'.

All (canon) Dragoons are Ishgardian knights. Not all Ishgardian knights are Dragoons. But yes! We do see some Ishgardian NPCs in the main story using PLD skills, and Aymeric's sword looks a bit similar to the Curtana. It wouldn't surprise me if there are Temple Knights in Ishgard's ranks who are trained in skills and spells similar to the Sultansworn, but it would be nice to have something concrete on that point.

I've already met/become aware of more than a few Ishgardian roleplayers that aren't dragoons. Most are basic knights, some are Temple Knights. Some are healers/medics/doctors. There's an astrologian here and there (and we'll probably end up seeing quite a bit more of those).

Responding to the above, there is actually a Temple Knight shown in 2.55 equipped with a conjury wand.

If you're aiming at PCs; there are plenty of non-dragoons around! In fact, I know more non-dragoon PCs than dragoons as it stands. Mostly sword and shield wielding knights in truth.

As for NPCs? We got plenty of those as well. Just because they hold a lance doesn't mean they are dragoon after all! Sword and shield wielding scum are there as well, conjurers, bowmen and I even spotted pugilists in the 2.55 scenario!

Mm, well, Yvelont is a dragoon by virtue of having slain a dragon during his service, but for all intents and purposes is simply a (ex) knight. He's well-versed in sword, lance, and axe but I don't have him relegated to any certain "job." If I had to give him an FF class, I'd say he's a Fighter.

Astrologians practice ancient Sharlayan arts. Not to be confused with Astrologians employed in the Observatorium.

I'm aware of that, but Ishgardian astrologians are presently being played. Virella is one, I think.

Ayup, as it's been stated: Many non-sultansworn/free paladin Isghardian Knights around. Mine in fact is one of them though he's transferring to Dragoon and such through RP and story.

Also Temple Knights > Sultansworn *shots fired*

Bruh.

I know they're knights, I was focused on the actual armor itself. Dragoons have a specific kind of look to them, and the gear Kale linked doesn't follow the norm for them is all. It looks like GLD/PLD gear, like mentioned.

When it comes to armor, most DRG gear is unique in that it's medium armor.

Tanks wear heavy armor other dps wear light armor, whereas DRG/Lancers are somewhere in the middle.

But as other's have said, when it comes to npcs there are plenty of sword and board Ishgardian Knights throughout Coerthas

So do BRD/MNK/NIN. Aesthetically, there actually appears to be subdivisions within the "medium armor" classification; BRD/MNK seem to wear leather and cloth, while DRG have comparatively heavier armor and wear a lot of scale/chainmail. NIN seem like they kinda move back and forth between light and heavy.

Very much so! I know one other as well, Katriane Hiver, one of Vi's friends/colleagues. I cannot wait to find out more about AST though, I pray the Ishgardians simply 'stole' the Sharlayan art, given they are dabbling into Magitek as well; seems they are happy enough to grab a hold of other crafts and what not to stand against the Dravanian Horde. But that is all speculations at this point. In any case, I got THM as a 'back up' class for Virella in any case. Huraay for scholary type of characters ey?
