Patch Date?

So, I'm unsure if this will unfold like the other MMOs I have played, but for those who have early access and for those who have a digital edition of Heavensward...When will we download the new content? I'll admit that I don't keep up with the official Forum Posts, but I know there are a few here who do and might be able to clarify a bit for me. I'm basically worried they will release the download right before or as early access opens because my net is horrible.

Should download it during or probably after maintanence 

 

If you do it before it'll crash your client. Thats if you're a PS4 user. Unsure if PC.

Right, and that is what I am hoping, except I don't think I've downloaded a patch recently that is near big enough to be Heavensward. I was wondering if anyone know knew -when- this will be be downloaded.

I'm assuming before the patch goes live.  I haven't received any kind of notice to go download anything so far, though.

I would assume Thursday or Friday. Sounds a bit down to the wire, but that's when I'm thinking they'll put the data up to be downloaded.

Nah I tried to download it right off the bat so nobody would guess my code and get it (yes im that paranoid with codes) and time I tried to play xiv it had error messages until I deleted it.

I wasn't aware it was even available to download.  It's certainly not on the launcher, which is what I was talking about.  If you can download it on the launcher, it should be 100% safe and just won't be "on" until they flip the switch at headquarters.

When I entered the bonus code for the early access, and after it downloaded I couldn't get on xiv without a big red lettered error message on the sign in page until I deleted it.

 

Im not sure how it works on PC

It didn't download anything for me. Just marked it on my Mogstation account that I was set for Early Access. Then again, I put it in the day we were able to do it, so maybe they changed something with the go live date being so close now. :blush:

Apparently there was an issue with the PS4/PS3 versions of the game where if you entered in your Heavensward code, it would download the patch data and cause the game to stop working (mentioned here on the Lodestone.) It didn't effect PC players.

 

As for the patch itself, I would expect it to become available during the 24 hour maintenance they're putting up right before early access, since that seems to fit how they've done all of the recent patches as well.

I'm sorry, I was very vague with my description. I wasn't aware of a new launcher, or a place to download the patch on your own. Basically, in many mmos that launch an expansion through a digital upgrade, they release a patch at some point before launch that updates everyone's client to have the required files for the new game. Even those who have not purchased will receive the patch just so they can still see the new models, etc. When you purchase the game it simply unlocks the availability of the content, BUT....Where or when is this such patch? My guess, it will be larger than 10 gigs for a new world and quests and such....And I run a 100kbs download. This is the only reason I was wondering the patch date. Of course, they might not even use this method I am only guessing on past experiences with different games.

I'm not sure if this answers your question completely, but typically, on large patch drops, at some point after start of maintenance but before completion, usually somewhere around the half way point, upon attempting to log in, it allows you to start downloading the actual patch content. I'm thinking that the data will download for everyone, since gear and levels will need to be visible to all people, regardless of early access or expansion ownership. 

 

Of course I can't say anything for sure since this is the first expansion. Hopefully this helps a bit?

  Users who have registered their early access codes and are currently playing FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn will have their game client updated automatically as we near early access and will not need to download a separate client. Users who do not have the FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn client can download it here.

Given that the download doesn't seem to have started already on PC, I would guess that it will become available like other patches when the servers go down for maintenance at 2 AM PDT on Jun 18. Admittedly I haven't seen anything to confirm that one way or another, and the notes above are from June 5th, so things may have changed. But it does seem to fit the pattern.
