Acesahn Posted July 9, 2015 Share #1 Posted July 9, 2015 My first experience with FF14 wasnt terribly productive. I spent a my first month unable to RP at all, because I couldnt get into the RP servers, they were full every day. Playing this game without RP is a crying shame, at least to me. The game itself seems to be perfect for RP, with the most expressive characters, head and eye tracking and emotes Ive seen in an MMO! However if I cant get into an RP server, I will end up doing what I did before, which was give up trying and quit, since I wasnt playing the game the way I wanted to, and my characters felt temporary. Did I just come at a bad month? Are the RP servers larger or less crowded now? And lastly, is there a way to check server status without an active account? Any help would be appreciated! Parth Makeo Posted July 9, 2015 Share #2 Posted July 9, 2015 The problem with the RP servers is that they are jam packed. If you are lucky early after maintenance you MIGHT be able to make a character but your best choice is to make a character on an empty server on the same list, then transfer it over for $11 i know spending money is bad but think of the long term investment. You bypass the wall without need to wait (except in the case you have to wait for a bit before your character can be flagged for transfer.) and PRAY. Hope to see you in Balmung :3 Link to comment
Unnamed Mercenary Posted July 9, 2015 Share #3 Posted July 9, 2015 Yes and no. Square Enix has not, and probably will never actually designate any server as an "Official RP Server". Balmung and Gilgamesh both seem to be rather full right now, as the expansion has done quite a number on our populations (for both RPers and non-RPers alike). Smaller communities have been developing on some less-populated servers such as Jenova and Siren (and others, but my brain is mush right now). Usually right before/after a big patch (and now expansion), the populations of most servers shoots up, and then they stabilize. We're -just- starting to have some stability on Balmung, as far as I can tell. (No lobby server crashes, queue doesn't last forever, etc). Generally, the easiest time to try making a new character on a high-populated server is when the most people are logged out. This is typically right before/after a patch or maintenance or during the early American morning on weekdays (when most people are whether asleep or at work). ...but given summer vacation, this is not as reliable as it would be. edit: I think server transfers are $18 x_x Link to comment

Flickering Ember Posted July 9, 2015 Share #5 Posted July 9, 2015 Did I just come at a bad month? Yes. This has been a bad month if you have been looking for RP. Everyone has rushed back to the game because of the new expansion being released. After that, everyone has been mostly focused on in game content, as opposed to RP. The servers in general are very busy due to Heavensward. You can get in by transferring your character here, as others have suggested. If you don't want to pay real life money, though, you will either need to wait a while for the expansion rush to die down or you will need to get lucky and wait for immediately before or after a maintenance to roll a character. But, I really recommend sticking it out! This has been my favorite MMO RP community by far! I know you will have a ton of fun with the RP here when you're able to get in. Link to comment
Acesahn Posted July 9, 2015 Author Share #6 Posted July 9, 2015 This is all bad news, I was feeling so inspired to RP too. The time I started playing was actually three or four months before the expansion came out, so it sounds like its remained the same. I dont mean to sound negative and critical, but if the RP servers are always full, why doesnt the NA branch of Square realize this and either expand the RP servers to net more customers or make new ones? Im no expert obviously but it seems like its a missed opportunity Link to comment

UGH thats whats making this so difficult for me! I want to RP with this game so much but I havent been able to! Oh and quick question for anyone out there, do server transfers bypass the "Server full" message? If not I dont see how that is much of an option. I DO have a character I would love to RP with, back story, motivations and personality all cocked and loaded! While spending extra money for something NOT my fault sucks its... still a tempting offer if its there. Link to comment

Yes, they COULD assign a few of their empty servers to be RP servers or could open a new RP server, but they haven't yet. And yes, SE should realize by now that an RP server wouldn't be some niche market pandering. Link to comment

Im no expert obviously but it seems like its a missed opportunity It is really unfortunate but I don't think that anything Square could do would help. Unless they raise server capacity, fully opening the servers will make huge queues. Opening up a new RP server could risk fracturing and splintering the community. It would be really nice if this could be an opportunity for Gilgamesh's RP community to grow but that server is also full. But don't give up! Even though the server is full, you can still transfer onto it. I definitely recommend it at this point if you can't get in. The servers were open for a little bit three or four months ago, but the unfortunate thing is that you would've had to know in advance when they opened. They use to open briefly for a few hours in the early a.m. Perhaps eventually the servers will begin to open up in the mornings again, but who knows when that will be? Link to comment
Aris Posted July 9, 2015 Share #10 Posted July 9, 2015 Transferring does bypass the server being full, yes. It was open today after maintenance, so it would appear they're easing up a bit. If you don't wish to pay, there will probably be another maintenance soon as they're pretty regular at the moment with hotfixes. The first 10 minutes after it opens is usually a good time. Having your character saved and name/details ready to put in so it's as quick as possible helps too. Best of luck! Link to comment
Acesahn Posted July 9, 2015 Author Share #11 Posted July 9, 2015 Thank you all for your advice and encouragement! I hope some peeps from SE do begin pandering to us, the RPers, since there isnt a whole lot of places left to go in this MMO market lately (Ive tried to RP all over and It gets stale or boring fast ) A new MMO thats RP friendly, in my humble prediction, would do very well! Since there isnt a whole lot of compitition, and wherever there is an MMO population, there are people who want to RP that they are there characters. Thats wierd they dont though, right? I mean isnt there like two animes out now that are about super realistic MMO's that people RP in? I actually dont know I just heard "Two Best Friends" mention it... Ill most likely end up using a character transfer, of course now I have to wonder if I should go to Balm or Gilg... hrrm... Link to comment
Tierney Weaver Posted July 9, 2015 Share #12 Posted July 9, 2015 Best way to get a character: 1 hour before the estimated time, get on r/ffxiv and spam F5 with your eyes on the new comission list. Make sure you download the patch so you don't have to wait later on. If you're lucky, you can create whatever you want in about 5 minutes. It'll be like this for now, since people are flooding the servers to catch up and grind their stuff. Once they get rid of all the endgame gear, they'll probably start calming down, so expect it to be alot better than the way it is right now in about 3-4 weeks Link to comment
Jean L Posted July 9, 2015 Share #13 Posted July 9, 2015 The only reason why I got into Balmung after HW is because I shelled out the $18 to transfer my character. However, last night I downloaded the newest update ASAP, went on 45 mins before maint was scheduled to be over and managed to make a character on Gilgamesh. A few nights before me and my friend were waiting so he could get into Balmung and it still wasn't up and Gilgamesh closed for new characters after the first refresh. Just watch it super, super closely. I live on PST so I have to stay up all night to server watch. If you're on EST it might be better to just set an alarm for 4am. Link to comment

Tietra Posted July 9, 2015 Share #15 Posted July 9, 2015 If I may... I know people are saying they can get onto Balmung with a server transfer, which this sounds like a good idea but I am left to question I went onto the server transfer page and I found something that does leave a few questions. I found something that said ・Characters cannot be transferred to Worlds with restrictions on character creation. Which leaves how can they be transferred to Balmung? If its closed and such things? Perhaps I am wrong and reading it wrong or just not understanding. I'm willing to pay for a transfer for a few alts but I'm curious if it would work. Link to comment

While it says this, I've yet to see a transfer to Balmung rejected. I have a character on Ifrit that was made back on 2.0 launch that I never use. Mogstation let me go through all the steps to transfer him to Balmung just now, which I cancelled on payment options. Link to comment

Sylentmana Posted August 4, 2015 Share #23 Posted August 4, 2015 Your best bet is to level a character to 30 on another server. At this point, they are eligible for a transfer so long as you are not a member of a Free Company or don't have items for sale on the market. Link to comment

You only have to have had a character that's past the basic first quest (can see other players) and has been alive for 72 hours. Link to comment
