A Pirate's Life for Me - AFTERMATH

Theia, Armand, Nuin and I'rila accepted a job from a rather energetic Captain Merfalkwyn. Needing some additional crew on her frigate, the group set upon a cargo galleon trasporting 'Indentured Servants' for the Fufuloto Mollasses Concern. Little more than legal slaves, they set upon the ship, burning their debtor's papers, and freeing many to join Captain Merfalkwyn's pirate crew. Despite their possible moral victory, this has made many of them outlaws, and enemies of the Fufuloto Mollasses concern, should their identity every be found out.

New Campaign Aspects - If your character already has a campaign aspect, you can either keep your current aspect or switch to the new one.

Theia Smolder - /Greedy as Sin/ - Whether it be gold, liquor or blood, Theia wants it all. Her enthusiasm helps her avoid moral quandries, but might get her in trouble down the line...

Nuin, I'rila - /Part time Pirates/ - Your brief stint as a pirate on the high seas has given you both an exciting tale and a criminal record. You'll fit in better with hardened corsairs... but let's hope none of the survivors from the ship recognize you.

Armand - /Nope still a childkiller/ - Sorry your current aspect is too good to give you an out ;D

BOOSTS -

Everyone  - /Lightly Salted SeaDog/ - You learned enough of the lingo and mannerisms to come off as something more than a complete landlubber. Use this boost for a bonus to social situations with the saltiest of seamen (and women!)

Yes love Theia's aspect xD

Not sure Theia will like it hough... ;)

Sealegs I - Breaking in the Iron Bitch - TBD

The Iron Bitch is one of the Maelstrom's newest warships, a technological marvel built with the help of the Ironworks. She is however, also completely untested. Rather than risk a crew of expert sailors on a ship without sails, the Foreign levy has been requisitioned instead. While the ship is still going through its trials though, it recieves a hasty message via signal rocket on the horizon. Three red stars... emergency assistance requested.

AVAST, and whatnot! Let's, um, keelhaul those mangy dogs, or something. Shiver their timbers. Yarr.

Fate-14 Ship Errata (By me)  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kBQgtGR1DpWMJJTg85iFbheLw5TwQtXj3tTRfDy9rmA/edit?usp=sharing

There are some significant changes in here from the main rules. Mostly they focus on making non-nautically themed characters more useful in ship battles. Also there are new rules for creating and RPing ships.

To Aspiring Ship Captains

The errata has new rules for creating ships. The two player created ship's at the moment are the Sultana's Revenge and the Iron bitch. However once you create a ship, it is somewhat at the mercy of the plot. It must be given an aspect representing an NPC first officer, and you must be open to the idea that it will participate in events even if your character cannot.

Return to Fox’s Hollow

Armand had an idea. What better way to learn about these mysterious corsairs, than to join them? He soon found one of their captains seeking a guide that knew the region of Coerthas. For Captain Blaestwyn’s destination was none other than the town of Fox’s Hollow. Once arrived, they soon locked Armand up alongside the villagers, torturing them for information. Blaest learned of the adventurers that had come in weeks prior, and forged a letter requesting them to return.

When S’imba, Leanne, Nikha and Xarl arrived, they found Armand beaten and bruised outside the village. Having escaped, he came to warn them of the impending trap. The adventurer’s entered to find the villagers locked in a barn, the village Blacksmith Helene outside with the Pirate captain. Pistol to her head, the gigantic seawolf questioned the adventurers, and, when learning that they held the coin, shot Helene and called the attack.

While Xarl kept their leader distracted, the others took out his crew. Armand was able to eliminate the guard trying to set fire to the barn, saving the villagers from a fiery death. Eventually, frustrated by the loss of his crew, the Pirate captain signalled the escape. An airship came in over the hills, picking up Blaest on a rope ladder.

The adventurers caused one last indignity for the captain though, Leanne shooting down his rope ladder as the ship sailed over the village. Plummeting to the ground, the Roegadyn was bruised but not broken, and he managed to regain his vessel with a curse.

Story Aspects:   Leanne - Pirate Bane: Leanne does not like pirates, not one bit. Apparently they don’t like her either.

Sealegs: The Sultana’s Revenge

Upon the information given by one Theia Smolder,  an expedition was sent out to retrieve the Sultana’s Revenge. Abandoned for several years, the wreck was last seen in a remote atoll. S’imba, Nuin and I’rila brought their crew of ex pirates and sailors to the location. Being a superstitious bunch, many of the sailors, including First Mate Dave, were unwilling to travel to the seemingly cursed vessel. However, after tales of Treasure were told by Theia, the crew eagerly rowed them out to the beached vessel.

They found it abandoned, and began the work of restoring her. However after a moment it was clear that it was not so abandoned after all. Nuin discovered a clutch of Kraken eggs in the bilge of the ship, apparently being laid there from a hole in the ship’s side.

While they struggled to remove the hundreds of eggs, an errant step by Nuin caused one of the eggs to slip, bursting open on the deck with a foul noise and stench. This caused something to stir in the center of the atoll. A massive head emerged, eyes glaring. Eyes that S’imba promptly fired a broadside at.

Nuin and Irila were not very pleased with this as they continued to attempt to remove the eggs. Meanwhile Theia took the help, attempting to get a better position on the creature as S’imba filled it with shot. Eventually it assaulted the vessel in melee, and S’imba was able to leap off and slay the beast. The crew cheered, reveling in the bloodthirsty nature of their new captain.

I’rila and Nuin were less than pleased, only distracted by a baby Kraken that seems to have hatched during the battle. It clung to the two women like they were its mothers.

All members receive [Masters of the Sultana’s Revenge]x1 - While others may use this ship, you are the ones who drug her back to the waves. Use this boost on any roll related to the ship.

Story Aspsects:

Nuin and I’rila: Maternal Instinct - While others were trying to kill the Kraken in the most efficient way possible, they were doing their best to save its children. Their failure stings, and they will strive all the harder in similar situations

Scholarly Pursuits - Tuesday the 11th at 1800 PST

Rhanta Taberlock was a nobody, the butt of every academic joke. That was, at least, until her research uncovered the long lost tomb of a Seawolf hero. Now, she’s trying again, this time with the support and funding of the Navigator’s Guild’s finest scholars. However the island she seeks is far, and the sea is full of threats. There is no Maelstrom ship that can be spared to carry her, but perhaps there might be a group of adventurers who can help this academic star on her rise?

This event is primarily reserved for the crew of the Sultana's Revenge (and the ship itself). There will be more events for new players coming up.

Slot 1 - S'imba

Slot 2 - Nuin

Slot 3 - I'rila

Slot 4 - Theia

Slot 5 - Xarl

If your name has a questionmark please confirm your participation!

If anyone wants to do a roleplay with Miss Taberlock before the event, let me know. We can arrange something this weekend!

Sealegs 2: The Iron Bitch

To the thrill of her crew and the shock of most onlookers, the maiden voyage of the maelstrom's experimental vessel The Iron Bitch was completed without any onboard fires, engine failures or other embarrassing disasters. Indeed her day long cruise from Limsa Lominsa to the port of Vesper Bay would have been entirely uneventful if not for an unexpected encounter off the Southern Thanalan coast.

Approximately two bells past high noon, the crew of the Bitch sighted a distress flare from beyond a small island and shortly after found a small brig belonging to the Immortal Flames giving chase to The Gold Coblyn, an armed galley belonging to the Fufuluta Molasses Concern. After hailing the brig, they received news that one of the concern's ships had recently been captured by pirates, with her entire cargo of indentured workers taken. News of this attack had spurred the poor souls aboard the Coblyn to take their own action. After escaping their holding cells, the workers had staged a mutiny, and taken full control of the Coblyn, despite the best efforts of the brig charged to escort her.

Responding to the Flame's earnest pleas for help, the Iron Bitch pursued the Golden Coblyn and quickly pulled into hailing range. Sukoa, a passenger aboard the Bitch and a skilled diplomat, hailed the mutineers, offering to provide social aid and a fair trial if they stood down immediately. Although they initially considered his offer, the beleaguered Ala Mihgans aboard succumbed to the lure of freedom, which lay so near their grasp, and fired upon the Iron Bitch.

Their resistance was destined to be short lived and bloody, as the adventurer's aboard the Iron Bitch cut through the mutineers like fresh butter. After a single broadside of explosive shells, the coblyn was boarded and retaken with great efficiency. However Captain Annstarra and her crew were horrified to discover the slave-like conditions in which the Fufuluta Molasses concern had been holding it's indentured servants.

Upon rendezvousing with the Immortal Flames, the adventurers learned that the Gold Coblyn's crew had not actually been massacred in the initial mutiny. Many had surrendered and been placed in lifeboats, which were now safely aboard the Immortal Flame's ship. These survivors were now restored to their vessel amid congratulations and  heartfelt thanks to the Iron Bitch and her associates.

However their jubilation remained heavily tainted by the concern's maltreatment of it's servents. Captain Annstara, with the support of adventurers Jana Ridah and Virara Vira, insisted upon a full investigation and an agreement was signed, obligating the Fufuluta Molasses Co. to hold the mutineers on their island Paradise Cove, until further investigations and negotiations could be completed by Captain Annstarra and her crew.

Boosts

Annstara, Jana, and Virara: 1x /Immortal Flame's Letter of Thanks/

~The Immortal Flame's Navy may be underfunded, undermanned and under respected, but you have earned their unreserved gratitude. This letter can be used for social rolls or favours from the Immortal Flames.

Sukoa: 1x /Ala Mihgan Insight/

~Although Sukoa refrained from speaking to the Immortal Flames or taking any credit for the victory, his efforts to reach the desperate mutineers have granted him valuable insight. This boost can be used for social rolls involving other Ala Mighan refugees.

Storyline Aspects

If this is your first event in Dead God's Chest, you will gain this aspect and may use it for the duration of the storyline. If you already have a story aspect, you must choose to keep it or exchange it for the new one.

Annstara [sworn Enemy of a Molasses Empire] -Disgusted and infuriated by the conditions aboard the Gold Coblyn, Annstara intends to take down the monetarist scheme brick by brick.

Jana [Rumors of a Mysterious Quarry]  - For self-proclaimed pirate hunter Jana Ridah, hunting Limsian miscreants has grown rather boring, but talk of the mysterious Nortyrliht that made off with an entire ship and vanished again has caught her attention.

Virara [stirrings of Compassion] - The very meaning of compassion or empathy is foreign, particularly for those weaker than herself. However something about the lightless belly of the ship has stirred deep memories and created a bond between Virara and the doomed mutineers.

Sukoa [Diplomacy of a Different Land] - Devastated and horrified by his failure to gain the Ala Mihgan's trust, Sukoa has poured himself into deep research of Eorzea people and their values, in the hope that there will never be a second time.

I apologize for the long wait after this event. Real Life was very busy over the last two weeks. The next chapter will be scheduled very soon.

Hello all, I'm ending/hiatusing my plot for the moment.

I had high hopes for fate-14, and I wanted to make roll based rp a success. I find it demoralizing though that it seems to be used as a medium for perpetuating grudges and strife. After being pushed out of the flagship plot to introduce the 2.0 rules, I have decided that I can't invest in a system that doesn't want me.

I was fine with GMing the 1.0 ruleset, but with everyone moving to 2.0, I feel like I'm an actor without a script. Someday perhaps if a final ruleset comes out for Fate14, or a new system emerges that isn't controlled by any particular player, I might restart this or a new plot.

I'm going to leave the thread open for a few days, in case anyone has any questions about how any plot points should be resolved.

Thank you all who participated, it was a very good learning experience for me, both in GMing and writing.

Avast, all ye Seafarin' Folk!

I appreciate everyone's patience during our change of hands and short hiatus. After consulting at length with Evangeline, I have agreed to take leadership of the Dead God's Chest and see it followed through to it's conclusion.

Keeping in the spirit of Dead God's Chest, this plot will continue to be heavily character driven and story focused. If you are looking for optimized battles and heavy number crunching, don't look here. If you are looking for strict rule adherence down to the last detail, do not look here. We are simply writers telling a story together and my focus will remain on the story.

Because we do need to provide reasonable balance and consistency, Dead God's Chest will officially be using the Fate-14 2.0 rules from this point forwards. However my first priority is to keep this storyline inclusive and accessible. We will welcome anyone from new players with nothing but skills and aspects, to 1.0 veterans. If you have an outdated sheet, I simply ask that you notify me to discuss possible stunt and class changes.

Rumors of pirates run through Limsa Lominsa, speaking of hostile ships untied under a single flag. Many rumors run their course through the white-spired seafaring town but this one persists like black sails upon the horizon....

Wednesday November 9th 5:30 PST - It's Always Pirates

The fishermen of Aleport are certainly a suspicious breed and liable to raise the cry of "Pirate" at the slightest provocation. So the Maelstom initially dismissed their wild claims of a pirate camp set up on a cluster of Northern Islands. However multiple sightings of smoke and firelight, have forced them to give the matter some attention. The call has been placed for a group of adventurers to scout the group of islands and determine who or what has taken up residence.

Tuesday November 8th 5:30 PST- The Price of Molasses (Player Run)

The crew and associates of the Iron Bitch have some unfinished business, with monetarist and sugar giant Fufuluta. Rumors of his underhanded deals and the inhumane treatment of his workers have trickled around Thanalan for years, with no one moving to confront him. Will Annstarra and her motley crew be the ones to end his cruel operation?

2. Virara Vira

3. Jana Ridah

4. Sukoa?

5. Armand

Important Note (New Player Events): Those events, which are marked as (New Player Friendly) will be intentionally balanced towards new Fate participants and extra time will be set aside during the event for explanations and help. I will be available 1 hour before the start of each new player event, specifically to answer questions and provide assistance with Fate sheets. *Initial sign ups for these events will be restricted to new Fate players, specifically those that have attended five or fewer Fate events* Sign ups will become available to veterans several days before each event.

With five days to go, I'm opening sign-ups for the "new player" event, Busydeals for Jinglyshines to anyone who is interested. The encounter will be adjusted towards a more experienced group.

As a side note we also have one remaining spot in It's Always Pirates in case anyone would prefer exploring to rescuing goblins.
