Hello folks! I just transferred to Balmung, finally getting around to introductions.

Recommended Posts

I've been registered on the RPC for a while, and even posted a little bit in support of the Behemoth server RP community a while back (/wave to Zok and Feld). However, I've recently taken the plunge and transferred my pile of characters to Balmung in hopes of finding a good fit for myself in a much bigger RP community.

This means that I've been on the RPC a lot more trying to find events, linkshells, etc! I've already gotten the character who passes for my main joining the Broken Chairs LS, but I'm definitely looking for more people and social spaces to hang out with/in. I'm particularly interested in finding (or creating) a queer-affirming, social justice-aware space.

MMORPG background

I played WoW from vanilla through WoD, and was on Wyrmrest Accord from the end of WotLK onward. I really enjoyed RPing in the setting and being on a large server, and I ran a small RP guild for a time. After leaving WoW midway through WoD out of frustration with the direction the lore was going, I was MMO-less for a time until I picked up FFXIV about a year ago to play with friends -- I'd really been missing having a virtual world to run around in.

I've been enjoying learning about the lore and creating more characters than I could ever possibly play or have slots for, trying to see what sticks. I haaaaaate questing, though, and as a result I am the world's very slowest leveler in FFXIV in particular. (In WoW I got around this by doing archaeology -- no joke, I leveled two or three characters to max level almost solely through that and gathering!)

RP experience

Outside of MMO RP (which is really the bulk of my experience), I've also dabbled in D&D and in some forum/Google Doc and chat-based RP (with the latter two mostly being an extension of my MMO RP). I enjoy having a long-form space to stretch my writing legs, but find it more difficult to be consistent with sometimes.

Character ideas/info

*points to username* Uh. It's been suggested that I have a problem. There are spreadsheets.

There are some themes, though: I tend to play either very "everyday" characters or somewhat bizarre/out there concepts, but either way, my characters are usually anything other than adventurers.

Rhetzedyr Guldarensyn, my more-or-less main (in that he's the character I've spent the most time on), is a farmboy-turned-artisan who owns an adult toy shop located over the Missing Member bar in Limsa Lominsa. (And once apartments open up again, his shop will hopefully have an in-game representation in Mist.)

Seselahi Rerelahi is a scribe and calligrapher who does freelance work out of Limsa Lominsa, as well as being the record-keeper for the Elytra Concord (a small business association located in Lower La Noscea), though he is currently on sabbatical.

Zhah'ra Savaptha is a bodyworker, dancer, and bathhouse attendant/escort working out of Ul'dah and the Goblet.

...and then I have Renan, a character who is a temporally-displaced chimera. They are a Nymian scholar and his Marine bodyguard who got mashed together in a magical mishap near the tail end of the War of the Magi, then trapped in a stasis coffin, only to be rescued when the Void Ark was recently discovered. They are dealing with quite a bit of culture shock and assisting the roegadyn who rescued them with his research helping the tonberries.

(And that's not even half of them! I also love creating new characters and playing NPCs for storylines, so if you need a bit part for something -- poke me?)

What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy?

I wander around both sides of "medium," I think. I really enjoy character development and exploring the world and the lore, but I don't have the energy to be IC and/or up for RP at all times. I thrive in one-on-one or fairly small group RP, but I try to be game about attending big events, if only to meet new people! (I'm not shy; I just run out of "extraversion points" after a while.) In one-on-one RP I prefer paragraph-style, third person. In-game, I generally write about a post in length at a time, maybe two if really needed for scene-setting, or less if that's all that's needed.

Tossing story ideas or character ideas around is seriously one of my favorite things to do, ever. I am notably terrible at coming up with "plotty" stuff in a vacuum -- I am at my most creative when bouncing off of other people, which is why RP is my favorite kind of writing. I generally prefer to work collaboratively with others to sketch out possibilities for character interactions and resulting storylines, and I usually prefer character-driven plots to more event-driven ones. I'm all about exploring relationships (of all types) and characters' inner worlds.

I particularly enjoy the kind of RP that lets me learn more about the characters -- and, therefore, about myself and others. While I don't go for dark RP for the sake of being dark, I do find value in exploring serious themes or topics that might be "close to home" in a careful and intentional way, with care taken to ensure informed consent all around (for both participants and bystanders). I find that the combination of a relatively-safe sandbox and the potential to play out more intense versions of certain concerns can make RP a source of significant insight. Even so, I am careful of the IC/OOC boundary and work to reinforce that distinction through consistent OOC communication. Some of the themes that crop up often with my characters are gender politics and identity, sexual identity, atypical relationship structures, power gradients in intimate relationships (positive and negative), trauma and mental health, empathy and boundaries, and communication.

Anything from real life you're comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc)

I am currently in grad school, training to become a counselor! I am a huge nerd in general, with special nerdery in the areas of language/communication, relationships/sexuality, psychology, and sociology. I also enjoy historical costume, science fiction, and enthusiasm. Edit to add: I also REALLY LOVE housing design in the game! Arranging furniture and talking about characters are my two very favorite things in the game, and the sole reason for everything else I do in FFXIV, haha. (On Behemoth, I worked on commission to design spaces, but I think I might be in a much bigger pond now, so to speak! I've seen so much impressive work here already; it's great!)

My classes are all in the evening, and I am a dyed-in-the-wool night owl, so even though I'm on Central Time, I'm usually online after midnight EST on into the early morning during the week, and at all kinds of hours on the weekend.

Feel free to send me a PM anytime, or say hi in-game; I'm also happy to share my Discord info. I'll be poking around the forums some more and seeing about getting myself out to a few events in the coming weeks, as well as (no doubt slowly) working on getting wiki pages up for my characters.

Thanks for reading! I'm really excited to be here.

Heya and welcome! Nice to see a fellow alt lover joining the fray! I haven't gotten to the point of spreadsheets, but give me a few months and we'll see (I really should organize everyone I got jfc).

I did a long stint on WrA myself as well as MG. Went back a bit during Legion and twas fun save for being the only one leveling a character in the 60s-70s and being out of the 110 content loop where everyone else was. FF14 has just been easier because everyone can help everyone else regardless of levels!

I'm big into chat RPs using Skype, discord, and the RPC here on the forums! I tend to offer that to folks these days since my ingame tends to be super crazy haha. Best of luck! Check out my characters sometime and totes hit me up for RP if ever you fancy it!

Also it's SUPER awesome to meet someone who plays another chimera, though mine were twins. Eeeek. @_@

Thanks for the warm welcome, all.

Lililove, that's neat to hear that you also have a chimera character. How did they get combined?

Thunderbolt300, running into a trader might be a thing, for sure. What does your character trade in?

Serenity, I'd love to talk character development with you sometime. :) Who's the character you're most likely to be on so I can say hello?

Glad you asked!

Meat. Meat. Aaaaand... more meat. Bones occasionally. Sometimes sinew. But mostly? Meat. Did I say meat? Meat. Menphina save you if you ask for your meat to be well-done, though. We don't talk with people like that. Mmmm. Meat.

I keep seeing you around, but being as neither of us has a connection post of our own, I'll just throw it out there that you're certainly welcome to run into Kasi too!
